    I think this happens after skyward sword and is a split because of time travel so you have ss and then 2 branches: 1 with BOTW and TOTK and 2 the minish cap and the rest where it then splits again after oot into 3 branches. That's why there are so many things that we recognise but aren't exactly the same. Most events will play out like the other timeline but with some differences.

    It's come to my attention while playing through the game, that they're placing BotW & TotK in the Downfall Timeline. But also made it aware to us that they retconned OoT & the ALttP Imprisoning War backstory into one entire historical event, which would play more into Zelda's character arc, as she spent more time studying about history of Hyrule (and the Guardians) in BotW and still in TotK, 7 years later.
    Reason why that may be is that those various memories/story beats we watched from the Tears, parallel those of OoT like Zelda being present during Ganondorf's "fealty" to Rauru and having her suspicions of him; his rise in power into the Demon King after defeating/killing a key person with the ability to control time (OoT it was Link, and in TotK it's Sonia); the absence of the Hero to prevent Ganondorf's reign between his rise in power and his imprisonment; Zelda and the Sage's last ditch effort to seal Ganondorf as best as they could despite his ability to reincarnate his malice into the being, Ganon; and if you look at Rauru's medallion, it resembles the face of the OoT Rauru. It could also be said that because BotW/TotK Zelda traveled to the past, she is the reason why each princess is named Zelda and would ensure that she would continue to have that namesake, 10,000 years later
    With that being said, if those observations I pointed out are actually the case then that means Skyward Sword did happen but everything else is more than likely a Hyrulean legend and not a historically accurate take, thus recontextualizing the Downfall Timeline as a downfall of the first monarchy of Hyrule and the sacrifices made.

      Thanks for the comment! This is a really in-depth take and I think I will need to play the rest of TOTK to fully understand what you mean. I agree with you that it is interesting how the memories from the tears do seem to parallel aspects of OoT... By the Downfall Timeline, do you mean the Fallen Hero Timeline (the one where link dies in OoT)? Or are you calling the BotW and TotK timeline the Downfall Timeline?

      There are references to every timeline in totk and botw (including references to specific gersions of Link) not just downfall. Seems kind of dumb to assume a retconned version of events when there are plenty of other functional explanations that don't retcon anything.

    I think the reason why everyone struggles with this is because we keep insisting everything should fall into "a timeline", one of the 3 specifically. I subscribe to the idea of a Zelda Multiverse. Where each game (including direct sequels) are in their own unique version of their universe. Where some things are the similar, but they don't have the same. I mean we readily accepted it for Marvel or the Spider Verse, why not here? 😊

      @Purexfallenxangel90 Před 11 měsíci

      I was looking into the "Myths" in each game aside from TP and WW having any history involving the direct consequence (or mention of time travel in the myth) many are set in a way that could indicate that if you think of the timeline as being much longer (we tend to think in terms of hundreds of years even if thousands or hundreds of thousands have passed) but if you time out things in a longer space the "fallen hero" timeline could actually fit within the other two timelines. the history of TOTK though does suggest an "alternate" timeline but split off SS (as the "ancient" and "first" hyrule kingdom is beat for beat similar to OOT) i think TOTK and BOTW are an offshoot of the "past" from SS due to the existence of both the "goddess" sword and "Master" sword. Ive even noticed only 4 (ill have to recheck what i wrote) has Ganondorf as a man existing and only 1 has him never turning into Ganon. majority have either him as the pig Ganon or another demon tribe member. ST though has malladus turn into a pig version after being taken over by another demons energy suggesting it was ganon. if you take into account that Ganondorf was sealed away all the Ganon forms could be explained being like the calamity ganon (given how many seem mindless could indicate that some of the "fallen" timeline games could fall into the alternate timeline between the alternate OOT and BOTW/TOTK given how you never see the human ganondorf) i have more thoughts but thats just some of my bits.

      I ascribed to this theory before Nintendo stuck their necks out in the Hyrule Historia block and declared that all the existing games happened in a continuity. I didn’t do that, Nintendo did. It’s not a tenable position anymore if the publisher’s public statements are to be taken seriously.
      On the other side of the token, there’s all the inconsistencies that arise when you try to contextualize BotW and TorK in the timeline as we understand it in Hyrule Historia.
      We need to accept that the franchise has been rebooted. Is it a hard reboot or a soft reboot?

  • @krismguru4085
    @krismguru4085 Před 10 měsíci +1

    The real "what if" causing the timeline split that accommodates the "downfall" series of games, happened near the end of Minish Cap!
    Hyrule Historia's 'fallen hero' what-if is a crock, and doesn't even REMOTELY lead into ALTTP!
    Here is how I summarize the true timeline:
    UNIFIED Timeline has only the starting point Skyward Sword, followed by Minish Cap.
    Minish Cap caused a 2-way split:
    PRIME Split: Link makes it to Vaati before the third bell, stopping his ritual to steal Zelda's Light Force, then has his showdown with the wind mage. This outcome leads to the BRIGHT Timeline.
    ALTERNATE Split: Link fails to reach Vaati by the third bell, leading to Vaati absorbing Zelda's Light Force, and Zelda dies. This outcome leads to the DARK Timeline.
    Expanding on each timeline split from Minish Cap:
    BRIGHT Timeline
    Vaati fails to steal Zelda's Light Force; Zelda survives; Link DESTROYS Vaati with the foursword - this IS the actual ending we DO see, when we beat Minish Cap. Recall that Vaati was NOT SEALED, he was destroyed.
    This becomes the timeline where Vaati no longer exists; Zelda was not killed; and Hyrule did not lose the Light Force for a few generations, thus it evolved more prosperously and had little adversity outside of the Fierce War, which was THIS timeline's conflict over the Sacred Realm and Triforce (note too that the knowledge of this realm and relic comes FAR SOONER than in the DARK Timeline). The King unified Hyrule and peace followed, up until this timeline's first game - Ocarina of Time.
    Ganondorf born in THIS timeline, has already seen the 'war' and even joined the King's truce. THIS Ganondorf's ambitions for power followed a path to the ultimate power, the Triforce, which he is very aware of and so his M.O. took him on a more political approach, earlier on.
    Of course we know the two fates THIS Ganondorf follows, one for each of the two timelines that split from OOT: CHILD, to Twilight Princess where he is KILLED (and there IS NO Four Swords Adventures thereafter); and ADULT, to Wind Waker where he is KILLED (and there ARE two incredibly stupid games to finish off the ADULT continuity, that I cannot even bring myself to even CALL 'Zelda games': Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks).
    DARK Timeline
    Vaati successfully absorbs Zelda's Light Force, vastly increasing his powers and killing Zelda; Link has a much harder fight but he IS the hero and prevails; Vaati is too powerful to be destroyed by the foursword, so Link is forced to SEAL him instead.
    THIS timeline is darker from the get-go, as Hyrule has lost their beloved princess and is robbed of the light force until Hylia's next reincarnation in a future Zelda. No pantheon of sages is established until centuries later, as the powers are passed through bloodlines and normally held by the young 'maidens' of those lines. There is no temple of time; rather there was the need to establish a sanctuary to house the foursword and it's prisoner.
    Vaati eventually breaks free, as we see in Four Swords, and the hero again defeats and reseals him.
    Then comes Four Swords Adventures (obviously the true Four Swords sequel) where we contend with Vaati one final time. But by now, Link's foursword is steroided-up on power; whilst the wind mage's stolen light force from centuries past, has waned enough such that Link is finally able to destroy Vaati.
    But on top of being the sequel to Four Swords and the final curtain for Vaati, it is also a PREQUEL to A Link to the Past; and most importantly: Four Swords Adventures, is THIS timeline's introduction to Ganondorf!
    THIS Ganondorf, much like the rest of THIS Hyrule save for the royal family, has NO KNOWLEDGE whatsoever of any Triforce or sacred realm (actually called the Golden Land in this timeline). As such, THIS Ganondorf's ambitions lead him to seek out the most powerful artifact that he WAS aware of: the Dark Trident. It is this trident that makes him GANON in THIS timeline; and ONLY in THIS timeline, does he EVER have the trident.
    At the end of Four Swords Adventures, Zelda and the six maidens seal Ganon within the foursword. And by the time Ganon escapes (if a far weaker Vaati can do it twice, c'mon!), the world is now aware of the Golden Land and it's sacred relic; and Ganon leads one of the many armies fighting in what was called the Imprisoning War.
    These armies eventually breached the golden land, and fought within that land to claim the Triforce; so the King ordered the seven sages of that time (which did NOT include Zelda and in fact, were originally called the Seven Wise Men) to seal the gate to the Golden Land, thus IMPRISONING the armies within - hence the name of that war.
    In A Link to the Past, Link learns more from the seven maidens he rescues - that Ganon was the victor who claimed the triforce, and wished to rule the world, which turned the golden land into the Dark World.
    And there you have it. Timeline that makes perfect sense, with splits that make perfect sense. Solving the FSA problem by recognizing it is direct sequel for FS and the prequel to ALTTP. There aren't actually two Ganondorfs, it is the same man born into each of the two timelines. The one in OOT then experiences a timeline split leading to the two different ADULT/CHILD destinies. Chronologically, OOT is at par with FSA; which would mean that OOT's Link 'the hero of time', is THAT timeline's version of the FSA Link; and same with the Zeldas in fact.

      I think the memories from TOTK have to take place before Skyward Sword or at the very least centuries before Ocarina. This way it assures that there is a Ganondorf trapped under Hyrule castle in all 3 timelines. Making the events of BOTW and the beginning of TOTK take place at the end of all three timelines. This way when Zelda gets turned back into her Hylian form by Rauru and Sonia at the end of TOTK the loop is closed, the timeline is converged and there is only one going forward.
