The animation where the Gargantuan Leviathan eats the Sunbeam has been greatly improved and let me just tell you it is absolutely amazing. The animation has been completely reworked with new voice acting and a completely different outcome. In this video, we’re going to be checking that out along with the many other updates to the Return of the Ancients mod...
I noticed after recording this video that at 2:42 when Avery Quinn orders his crew to the escape pods you can actually see two escape pods falling down from the Sunbeam into the water below. This basically proves what I was talking about later on in the video. Hopefully, we'll be able to find those escape pods later on in the story and find out what happened to them...

This mod is currently unreleased so there is no way to download it for the time being. When it is finished, it will be available for free. Right now, it is only available to select CZcamsrs like Aci, Anthomnia, IGP, and The Last Bacon. In other words, you can't get it yet.

The Sunbeam scene is cool, but i think they forgot the implication of scale a little bit. The Leviathan should come at a significantly lower speed and fall at a lower speed with slower acceleration, that is also true for the ship.
They are probably still working on it
And there should have been some kind of giant wave coming towards you when it hits the water
That and when you encounter the leviathan in the void, it's a LOT smaller. If it can nearly swallow the Sunbeam, it would no doubt make a snack out of the Cyclops.

Good animation, but it feels a bit too fast, and I feel like there should be a huge wave or something when the garg breaches the surface and falls back down

I agree, I think a creature that big should fall really slowly and crash down in a more exaggerated way. Still looks amazing though
I feel like the garg should, rather than coming up from the bottom and just defying gravity, should jump above the sunbeam, then slowly fall and plummet into the void. It just looks wonky the way it is now. Still cool tho
After this scene, I hope it becomes possible to find a Gargantuan Leviathan's corpse with a ragged stump where the head should be indicating what a mistake it was to eat something that's about to explode.

@@AfromanRants The subtitles played an explosion sometime after the Sunbeam got bit.
@@roland228 “Explosion” can mean many things. The Cyclops explodes when it gets damaged but it doesn’t kill the reaper that damages it. I think a several kilometre-long leviathan with teeth the size of a Stalker can survive a minor explosion.
@@roland228 Besides, as cool of an idea as that is, it completely takes away from finding the skeleton in the lost River later on.
@@AfromanRants well to be fair, it sounded like the Sunbeam actually fully exploded in the audio, and seeing as it is an interstellar vessel that is likely powered by a nuclear drive core, it would have much more punch to it that the electrical explosion of the cyclops, and besides, the reaper doesn’t have the cyclops in its mouth when it explodes, or even the sea moth for that matter. The Sunbeam would be I. That fleshy, unarmored bit of the mouth so it probably would have killed the Gargantuan.
What I think would be cool is if the PDA said something like: “Warning: Category *Insert big number here* tsunami approaching rapidly. Seek shelter or a great height immediately” after the leviathan crashes into the water again.

This is genius, HOWEVER. I feel like a Tsunami created by the Gargantuan Leviathan would be way too big too cause an "emergency alert". I feel like going deep underground would be the only good solution, so "seeking shelter" or "great height" would be useless. Keep in mind that I am no Tsunami expert, ok?
Fair, but you’re right. It can be assumed that even the mountains aren’t tall enough to block a Gargantuan Tsunami. Going into the mushroom caves or the deep grand reef or the lost river makes more sense
@@pineappleboi1719 The PDA always gives useless alerts though. it told me my favourite activity was swimming..I think the "seek high ground" or "seek shelter" would be more comedic and make more sense for the PDA. It's always saying kinda helpful things in a funny way, that aren't always fully correct to your situation.
The PDA saying seek high ground on a planet of almost NOTHING BUT WATER as a giant UNAVOIDABLE wave crashes towards you would be hilarious.
@@pineappleboi1719 Late to the party but please for the love of all things logical, please don't go below ground if you're about to be hit by a Tsunami. Get onto the roof of a solid building and hope for the best. Going underground is just asking to be flooding out and drowned.

@@gage2189 yes implosion is something moving inward violently. the pressure caused a implosion and the pressure was released extremely fast, hence why you can still hear it but the items in the sunbeam moving outward is more the result of implosion the explosion because explosion is a violent shattering like breaking glass.

If we saw like the wreckage of the sunbeam hanging over the void where the gargantuan dragged it, with some of the lifepods damaged around it and we have to avoid the gargantuan while exploring the wreck that'd be awesome! I always love to see updates on this mod and I can't wait for the public release

@@SpeedyMouse if you set speed to 0 and was super close the the explosion, theres acctauly 2 life pods. As of right now they just sink but I thought, what if when you tried exploring the life pods if they floated the gargantuan leviathan would eat one and fall onto the other, killing the survivors. Mabye if you get cured and disabled the gun it would land, but tye gargantuan will grab the back when you get near it and drag it into the void aswell because we can all admit, the current voice lines for the alternative ending are kinda meh.

They could probably reuse the Aurora's explosion (the one that releases radiation) effect and briefly black the player out

From what I hear, I feel like they could do some stuff like a quick call from the survivors before the ship explodes, like them calling for survivors from the Aurora or maybe screaming in terror about the sheer size of the Garg, maybe cutting it off when the ship explodes, but we get a position for a life pod.
I think a fun idea would be a time based mission of finding the life pod in a set time before it gets eaten by the Garg would make for an interesting side plot, like if you manage to find the pod in time, the crew mentions that the ship's explosion could've damaged the Garg enough to kill it or if the player runs out of time, you see a cutscene of the life pod floating in the void, only to see the Garg swimming up, damaged but about to destroy the life pod, maybe from a survivor's pov to give it extra fear factor?
Just a few ideas i thought would be cool
I am already scared of base Subnautica (especially the dead zone) and thinking of that in my head is absolutely terrifying, to clarify the level of terror, I had a nightmare about getting physics yeeted into the dead zone (to the point where the message from the pda happened and then impact with the water occurred
I actually did the math and research on pressure and size comparisons in Subnautica. Feels good and it’s crazy seeing the modding capabilities and how far the game has come.

The voice acting was great buut I think it could use some more distortion when It gets hit, and even more distortion mixed with the bellows of the garg right before the ship gets destroyed. I would LOVE to see that.

The pda void entrance is amazing and I think the sentence where it says "are you ready to die" is the gargantuan leviathan that speaks to you telepathically.
Pretty sure the "Are you ready to die" was just a Text-To-Speech placeholder for the PDA.
This is even more frightening. Especially if, after Leviathan destroys the sunbeam, he would say to the player: "I know you're here"
God imagine that being your introduction to it, not even knowing it existed before that point, would be terrifying

The creature’s animation would of been more believable if the creature wasn’t so fast to rise and fall after jumping out of the water. Plus there is no splash at all. A creature that size would generate massive tidal waves.
Could you imagine one of the guys in those escape pods and realising they arent just IN the void…

@@corvusgaming2379 guess that would be the deficit. Imagine having some woman constantly following you just shouting “IM STARVING! I NEED FOOD!” Every 5 seconds in exchange for inventory space, battle power, control of the cyclops and sanity.
@@DEAD_ACCOUNT0000 It would also go against what the game's mainly visioned for. Chances are as talented as these modders are they would likely also stick to the original vision for the game, which is your character being alone, which is likely why when you do see the pods their going towards the dead zone pretty much sealing their fate especially if the pods got damaged from something like the pods in the original game were, as the majority of them were always found sunk.
I would rather see a cutscene as they meet you and get killed by a gara
Imo that should happen, they can help pilot the cyclops and help you gather stuff, but to keep the subnautica feel, at some point they should be killed off or at least an interrupted radio signal from them if they go out exploring
Would be great if after the sunbeam gets shot and eaten, you would hear the garg roaring in pain. Then you could find a dead body of the garg, indicating that the sunbeam exploded in its stomach. You could then scan the corpse, making it easier to get the databank entry for the adult garg.
That would be awesome tbh, would love to see that. Not sure if that's the direction they're going to take it though.

He would not be giving a sad monologue while being dragged down into the depths at that insane speed. It should just be a scream and a cut-off. It sounds rn that he is super chill with finding this ocean planet and this empire state-building-sized monster eating his ship.
when i first saw the giga leviathan I thought that if this mod is possible surely the frozen leviathan could be a alive and cool creature but then i realised that it was a game, and they still had to develop the whole game whereas the modders are more focused on a select few features and have much more experience with this game.

When I heard you on thelastbacon's newest video I fell off my chair. You went from an annoying squeeky kid I couldn't listen to for more than 5 minutes even if I wanted to, to one of the most soothing voices I have ever heard. Keep up the great videos and definitely subbed.

And when the PDA said "Communication lost for Sunbeam" I instantly teared up, such a simple sentence really hits you in the face. I hope they keep that, it really crushes the hopes that Avery could survive

And the peacemaker in me really wants to be able to just see the Garg vibe and not hurt me, it's such a huge creature and I really want to observe it

There needs to be a large water splash when it jumps out to grab the sunbeam and one when it dives back under. But it's still amazing.
Really amazing, although I think would be more believable that when the sunbeam hits the water, communications immediately cut out. Since the force of this ginormous creature smashing down into the water would probably screw up the ship real bad. Would almost definitely kill the captain as well. Still, this is one of the best Subnautica mods I have ever seen, 10/10 voice acting, great sound effects, and dont even get me started on the visuals.
I feel the voices need to be a little more urgent, I mean you see the gargantuan coming out of the water you voice isn't a muted tone. Also I feel when the captain tells the others to escape in the pods, that you should hear the Gargantuan roar and maybe some more metal bending sounds from the Gargantuan trying to eat the ship

i like the voice acting but i think the captain needs just a lil more dramatic effect in his voice when he says "Everyone get to the escape pods now. I don't think I'll be able to steer clear of it" other than that 👌🏾 animation and mod overall
I wish that that last part of Avery Quinn's dialoge had sounds of metal ripping, the ship violently shaking, and other sounds in general aside from just him talking

I absolutely love this mod! I’ve honestly only 1 hope when it comes to the possible outcome of the Sunbeam crew, and that’s that if they didn’t survive, that whatever content or logs we could find don’t say they were eaten by the gargantuan leviathan.
When you think of wild animals, everything’s pretty much a case of “ok, if I do this, how much energy will I have left?” It’s a big ol’ race for stamina. Think of whales: whales eat krill, and they eat a bunch of it, but if you’ve seen the process of a whale hunting for krill, you’ll notice that they take a very long time and only open their mouths maybe once or twice, and that’s it. That’s because it takes an extraordinary amount of energy to even open their mouths, so whales have to position themselves juuust right to get the most amount of krill in one attempt. I’m hoping it’s the same for the gargantuan. That’s why I love the animation where it eats the Sunbeam so much. It makes total sense that it’d [try to] eat something so big as the Sunbeam (and in game, the Cyclops.) It wouldn’t make sense if the devs make it to where the gargantuan ate the crew individually though, because one tiny person isn’t gonna be worth the amount of effort it takes to open its huge jaws. Yeah, it may sound better than eating metal, but it’d be the equivalent of eating a lil’ chip crumb, and those teeth DO NOT look like they were designed for eating plankton/microorganisms. Maybe the crew got eaten or killed by the ghost leviathans, chelicerates or some other unknown leviathan. 👀
This is just my hope tho. Anything the devs do I’m sure will be absolutely great! The gargantuan is definitely my favorite leviathan, even if it’s probably canonically extinct.
An organism that large needs very specialised energy sources: maybe it can somehow extract energy from the metal.

I think they could really improve the animation by having waves appear when the leviathan exits and enters out of the water. They leviathan should probably rise and fall a tad slow and Avery should have some sort of filter over his dialogue (this is probably already planned) to provide more of a radio effect. Otherwise, I'm hyped for this mod. Been waiting for it for over a year now.
with developers this skilled, i would love to see a mod where, if you disable the platform fast enough (very very unlikely), the sunbeam WOULD land and you just leave like that. I only want it because i feel bad for the sunbeam lol
Ooooor they could make it a bad ending route where as you start to leave the planet aboard the Sunbeam, the gargantuan leviathan comes out and eats you as we see in this iteration. Just imagine the horror of witnessing all in first person from the Sunbeam. Seeing from the window a huge silhouette under the ocean surface. Hearing the reports from the crew take a more and more alarmed tone... Then that thing jumping out of the ocean.

I know it's still a work in progress but when the sunbeam gets eaten a few things that would make more sense is if Avery Quinn sounded more distressed instead of calm, also a new line like "sheilds up!" And "sheilds have been destroyed!" Or something like that it would make the animation feel more realistic.
Ok imagine if they change the ending so that once you try to escape on the rocket the gargantuan leviathan will jump out of the water and latch on to the rocket
Gotta add a special craftable item to get the real ending like mega boosters. The levithan goes for the bite and ya roast his mouth. If ya dont make it, the ending is you dont make it offworld. The pod ejects and your rockets wrecked. Gotta make a new one

I think it would be cool if it bursted out of the water, reared up like a snake and grabbed the vessel with its tentacles, thrusting the sunbeam into its gaping jaws before crashing back down into the depths and breaching its tail as shown in the current animation

I hope you can find the escape pod and you hear a distress call or smth and when you get there you hear them banging on the doors as something either eats it or kills them. And If you do not show up in time you find that the escape pod is missing the seats and maybe you find it hanging on the void with the uniforms of the sunbeam.
It would also be cool seeing the sunbeam wreck.

this is TERRIFIYINGLY AWESOME. ancient creatures in subnautica were dead originally been a while since I seen the mod, but I'm glad its still being updated.

1:03 it would be cool if the mod makers added a little bit of the top of the head of the gargantuan leviathan somewhere in the ocean

i feel like the animation for the gargantuan leviathan needs to be a bit slower and feel more weighted but the animation so far is good and i hope this mod keeps improving
To create the illusion of the Sunbeam being close, they made it really big. It’s about the size of the Aurora so that gargantuan leviathan model IS MUCH BIGGER than the normal thing you see swimming around. Sunbeam isn’t supposed to be big, it’s just an illusion.

My only problem with this mod is that when the gargantuan leviathan eats the sunbeam and goes back in the water there should be a massive splash

I looked it up. Just the juveniles are 900 meters long. The one adult left is the one that got the sunbeam and is 2000 METERS LONG. That’s over a mile long. Imagine that
I think if they added the pods to the void like maybe the surface it would be smart to have a 30 meter radius all around the pod for any vehicles and you to stay safe in but instead of changing the biome they could probably have it where the garg just swirl 50 meters away or so from the radius waiting for you to leave so you can escape so once you get im guessing a PDA entry from the pod then either the safe zone is gone once you leave the radius or they can script for the garg to eat the pod and continue like normal.
(This is a thought i have made as something cool in my opinion although there is no telling if the mod creators will see this or if people didn't already think of this.)

I really like the animation, and other than the things pointed out by other people in the comment's section, I have nothing to say about it. Although, I think that Avery Quinn and the Crewmate's voice have the radio effect switched up. You would think the crewmate's voice would be definite and clear because he's speaking into the radio to communicate with Avery who's on the sunbeam, but it's actually vice versa. Maybe a couple different lines from the crewmate remarking the fact that the building is turning and pointing at the sunbeam like a weapon would make it feel more realistic.
I Think It’s Really Cool How The Baby Gargantuan Leviathan Is Like A Very Long Cuddlefish. They Also Need To Add A Really Big Room For Your Base To Put This Thing In Alien Containment. Also Where To Find The Egg For The Gargantuan Leviathan When The Mod Releases?

the mod is amazing so far but a few things I would change with the sunbeam animation: 1. I think that Averys voice should be a bit more filtered like the rest of his crew and have the same effect the vanilla cutscene has where, when he gets farther from the mic to talk to the crew , he is quieter. 2. some alarm sounds other noises should be heard when the Garg is dragging Avery into the depths. and 3. I think the animation of the Leviathan taking the Sunbeam into the water should be slowed. this is a MASSIVE creature and I just think it moves a bit too fast for the sheer size that it is.
At the end of the day i realize it is a work in progress and I am not a mod developer so I understand if some things couldnt be done but these are just some things that i think would make the mod even better. Great video covering it btw!

Ngl, after watching THAT swallow up an entire ship, I think I would just dig a hole on the beach to sit and cry in as the terrible realization of "im going to die on this planet" hits home..

What I want to know is if, after activating creative mode/no-clip/whatever, the PC could fly in for a much closer look at the Gargantuan Leviathan grabbing the Sunbeam out of the sky

I know this video is really old but if the mod is still in development it would be cool to have the pods intact and we're tasked with saving them from the danger.

One thing they really need to think about is how little room there is for something as large as the gargantuan leviathan. The only place it could really move around would be the ecological dead zone, but there is very little point for players to go out there so I don't know how they will get us to encounter this leviathan and have it make sense.
