Aletho, what did the ICE WORM do to you to end up so far down on this list???????????
It wiggled too much
@@iAletho relatable
Bro got in the vid
It wasn't the "Big Worm" sadly.
Damn even the pfp, nice dedication
*Trash talks the glow whale* You made some powerful enemies this day.
I have angered the great Glow Whale clan!
@@iAlethoyou will regret messing with the glow whale
Tbh, I love the whale simply because it was the only beyond loud creature I didn't have to worry about.
Trash take on the glow whale? My brother he put the Sea Emperor in #3
Thats it. YOU CANT JUST SLANDER MY BOY LIKE THAT!!!!! The glow whale is my favorite creature because they love to dwell in groups and you can raise your own glow whales in the alien containment chamber. ITS WAY TOO CUTE TO LAND ON LAST PLACE
"And the Reaper's just joining in for fun!"
Yeah, that sounds about right
GARGATUAN
There is nothing like the first reaper leviathan ecounter!
Even after beating the game like 5 times i'am still scared to go to the dunes/crash zone
Its a right of passage tom!
try going to the wreck in the mountains...exactly between 3 reapers and ALMOST in their kill zones!!
I often go to the dunes to visit the base I made in that crater with a meteor in it. There’s an alien cache right there in the crater too, you just have to follow a tunnel of a cave
My first encounter was in dunes, from far away i thinked its cute LMAO when he geted close i just .... Exo suit destroyed reaper
@@Artutinkaplay
How? What did u do?
My poor boi sea dragon didn't deserve to be that low on the list, considering that the entire events of subnautica started with stealing a sea dragon egg and the mother just wanting to get her egg back, but accidentally causing the outbreak of kharaa, which in turn caused the construction of the quarantine enforcement platform, but an interesting list to say the least!
From a story perspective its definitely interesting, especially the lore, I'm just not a massive fan in gameplay terms unfortunately! :)
@@iAletho that is true, design wise it's definitely amazing, but gameplay wise it's a bit lackluster which is unfortunate to say the least
Compared to the ghost and reaper it falls pretty short tbh, also the lava zone isnt that impressive of a final location, especially compared to the lost river
I absolutely despise him. His lore isnt even that good and when you just come out to repair your PRAWN suit, warper teleports him to you and it oneshots your ass. Absolutely awful leviathan and its sad that he isnt on the 11th place.
For some reason in my game one sea dragon is friendly
“Don’t Fear the Reaper” heard in the distance, growing ominously louder
Lmao
*Reaper Fear intensifies*
What are all of these Blue Oysters doing here?
If the crystal caves area wasnt so cramped and was darker, with only light source being mainly the crystals reflections and the shadow leviathans spots, with some smaller fish to help disguise it, i could see the shadow leviathan being much higher.
I can imagine suddenly seeing the bright blue mouth out of nowhere and freaking out once you realize that's just the mouth.
Hopefully subnautica 2 fixes a lot of the drawbacks of below zero.
That would be the ultimate jump scare, and definitely make it feel a lot cooler!
I honest to god thought the Shadow Leviathan was gonna have invisibility and/or bioelectricity but oh well
Would've also been amazing if when the Shadow Leviathan saw you and became aggressive, it would light up fully with bioluminescence, revealing the creature itself and its size.
@Snozzer that would be cool, trying to make the 'deer in headlights' effect in the player where your just in awe the first time seeing it.
I went to scrap zone behind the ship in darkness with seamoth, fkng scary experience
one thing I do appreciate about the ice worm is that it hunts, something that most other leviathans don't really do. Imagine if the first time you saw the sea dragon it was dragging a Reaper away. makes it feel more like a real ecosystem to me when stuff does its own thing, like what you said about the sea treader.

I don't know about you, but I've seen plenty of Reapers hunting, as well as Crabsnakes, Crabsquids, and even the Squidsharks on occasion. I guess those last three don't really count.
But I get what you mean. The Sea Dragons don't really do anything but swim around and shoot fire at random creatures. Never seen a Shadow leviathan hunt anything other than me. Same for the Chelicerates. At least the Glow Whales DO something other than swim around, even if it's just breaching and interacting with the player.
@@nooneofimportance2110reapers ABSOLUTELY hunt, I've seen them eating gasopods on more than one occasion.
Fun fact: the dead leviathan had blunt damage to her head because she tried to get her egg back from the aliens. That’s truly sad.
Lwkey, all of subnautica wouldve been avoided if the architects didnt use this 2526b as a testing ground. From the lore, what we see between s1 and bz is only 1% of what 2526b USED to have. When riley crashed, the world was on the verge of extinction. On the other hand, if they didnt make all the leviathans extinct, id have to deal with gargantuan leviathans
@@WashingMachineYT988you mean to say 99% of what it used to have is gone. Your comment would say that only a tiny sliver of life on the world has gone extinct
@@paytonallen1027 mb i didnt even notice
@@WashingMachineYT988 all good. ‘Tis why I’m letting you know
@WashingMachineYT988 Gargantuan Leviathan went extinct like millions of years before the Architects even showed up.
Fun fact: below zero was originally supported to feature the baby sea emperors from the first game all grown up as a kind of random encounter. For what I know, they didn't do too much, but you could find then occasionally swimming around, and I think there was supposed to be warpers too
Unfortunately it would've added nothing to sub par sequel, as much as I wanted to love it :(
Thank god there weren't warpers
@@thereisnowayyouareforreal5156actually it would have. In the original story, Robin could have talked to one of the emperors to get enzyme42 sent to the vesper because they lost their supply after getting hijacked by Jeff (Robin's coworker who goes missing at the start). You later find out that he also stole the kharaa sample that Robin sent earlier and released it onboard before going back to the planet and enabling a planetary shield from the mountain alien base where Robin first meets Alan.
Btw the emperors had finished and recorded voicelines too in the final version of the original story, so I suggest looking it up if you have never seen it. I am still mad that they had to scrap every single cool aspect of the original story.
@averagekettleenjoyer474 what I meant was, that small detail didn't save sub zero from being mediocre
@@thereisnowayyouareforreal5156 well below zero originally had a completely different story line. Instead of going down to the planet to find out what happened to your sister, you sister is up in a space station orbiting the planet. Your goal was to collect stuff like enzym 42 and send it up there, and you eventually find the frozen leviathan. The story was a lot better and I think it would have been a lot better had they stayed with thay version of the story
"And the reaper is just joining in for fun." Feels like you could use this quote for a number of situations.
The introduction is such an important part for leviathans and the reapers introduction to a lot of people is just perfect.
Growling in the distance.
Shadowy figure in the murky water.
Trying to get to the arora and suddenly being grabbed turned around to see that face ripping apart your seamoth or just swallowing you whole.
The build up is great, most people never suspect a thing until its to late!
@@iAletho I first saw it through content creators who weren't major ocean game players. The sheer nervousness and anxiety was amazing.
Putting a reaper behind the aurora was such a genius move
@@ijneb1248 A reaper? Try three reapers😱
I agree with the sea dragon completely. I think for me it feels more of a random mix between earth ish or earth derived creatures rather than something completely new
Same here; as much as I do really like its design, it's always felt strangely out of place compared to everything else. The sea emperor, despite having a similar design, manages to pull more weight in the 'looking alien' department, likely bc its face looks less 'outright fantasy dragon'. I think that's one reason why the reaper clicked so much with me, despite my love-hate relationship with it; it looks so alien and like it just _belongs_ in this place. It really hammers in the idea that this is a creature adapted perfectly to this environment and is just doing its own thing, and you are the one who doesn't belong there
Ghost Leviathans are the scariest I think because of where you find them. Going really far under water further then you should and it getting really dark then hearing one of thoes things then it coming at you out of nowhere is terrifying, and the big ones are even worse.
Nah I never found them scary lol they always look kinda goofy to me and I just laugh as he tries to hit me in the cyclops also you can see him coming from a mile away so there's no way you get jumpscared by him
Wbile playing, every friendly leviathan is "interesting," and every other aggressive leviathan is "annoying," but the Reaper continues to be scary to this day. It absolutely deserved the #1 spot
I personally really enjoy the shadow, ghost, chelicerate, and the sea dragon. The sea treader is also quite cool. For me, the top spot is a toss up between the shadow, cheli, reaper, and the ghost. I do like the more realistic leviathans, the ones that feel like they could really exist on an alien planet. Subnautica combines my passion for astronomy with my love for zoology and it is amazing.
Thats the fun thing with this list, I don't think there really is any bad leviathans in the game, so the list could always change depending on how you feel at the time!
@@iAletho I agree. I also think that this list is not objective, everyone has a different list.
i kind of agree with the sea dragon, but only because they are so unthreatening i have never been damaged by one so it just feels like it has more bark than bite
I mean the idea is cool, I'm just not a massive fan of it overall, but hey ho!
I think the real problem is that it's not scary the reaper is the scariest obviously and then it's backwards getting less scary as the game goes on
First time I beat this game in February, descending to the Lava Zone with the Cyclops was terrifying, especially when I didn't know what to do and when these two massive creatures just creeped up on me and I couldn't really do anything. But eventually I just put max throttle ahead and found a safe spot where the Sea Dragons never even went and it was basically a breeze after that.
Now that I have the overall layout of the outside and inside Lava Castle and the underlying Lava Lake memorized, it's pretty easy to avoid the Sea Dragons with the Prawn and that really takes away the scare factor.
However, I'd still be on my toes when going to the Crash Zone.
I've always been curious about this: Who draws the stuff we see in Aletho's videos? Does he draw them himself? Get them commissioned?
Whoever does it, props to them.
Totaly unbiased because of my pet bagel, no no. But in my book the Shadow Leviathan is one of the absolute coolest, maybe even my most Favorite from base Subnautica/Below Zero! Its just such a cool design. Also fun fact, in german the leviathan is called Thanatos! Which is the name of a god of death. Pretty cool!
I think I prefer the German name now Kirby! xD
Thanos
Well deserved first place. The Reaper Leviathan, no matter how many hours i have in this game, still terrifies me. With all other Leviathans i can dance around potential obstacles or out manuever them because some have the turning radius of a truck, but no matter what i just cant deal with Reapers.
Nice job man, good to see you back
Thanks merkx! Glad you enjoyed it :)
I gave up my playthrough because of the Reaper... It grabbed my Prawn Suit and ended up clipping me into the ground. I kept sinking until I reached an out-of-bounds box in the lava zone, and had to just sit and watch as my Prawn Suit got crushed and destroyed from the pressure, leaving me stuck and forced to reload my last save. I just sorta stopped playing after that.
Shadow leviathan and ice worm are my fav, because of their unique, and the fact how they are terrifying worms.
Shadow is the most terrifying leviathan for me, because in classic subnautica, when you craft stasis rifle or cyclops, all creatures aint scary anymore. In below zero you dont have stasis rifle and cyclops + shadow notices you from a long distance + he deals a really high amount of dmg
Chelicerate is the comeback king! Glad you came around on the Chelicerate it and the Void variant are my favourite Leviathan.
Boy I ain't gonna check out those videos, but they wouldn't want to come after me. Leviathans, every second you're not swimming, me, my stasis rifle, and my prawn suit are only getting closer.
Aletho be like: Aquatic Bowser type thing? Meh. Oarfish with mandibles? Love it!
Reaper is not just a oarfish with mandibles, its a demon...
And he's right for that
Hw forgot about the Giant Squid Sharks. They are technically leviathan class.
They are not
The ice worm in the shadow leviathan are still my favourites
Nothing terrified me more than hearing the ghosts scream when I first entered the void. Just turning around and seeing come out of the darkness made me leave the game in fear
Keep up the good work! I've really been enjoying all of the videos you've made on the leviathans.
Thanks lazardookie! Feels like the end of an era!
Good videos as always! I love your videos ❤
Thanks unknown! I appreciate you sticking around :)
man i love your vidoes so much. please never stop making them
Our silent heart void boy got no love, he wasn’t even MENTIONED
I didn't expect my boi the chelly to be ranked so high, thank you.
You did my bois shadow leviathan and ice worm dirty my man😭
I thought the ventgarden and sea treader would be higher as the sea treader is EXTREAMELY helpful and (from my knowledge) the ventgarden is necessary to beat below zero as its the only source of spiral plants for synthetic fibers for depth modules.
Ventgarden would be way cooler if it had more interaction BEYOND the spiral clippings, I wanted to interact with it MORE
It is not. Spiral plans also grow in the deep purple vents. You can beat the game without ever finding out that Ventgardens even exist.
@tjarkschweizer, that's why I said "from my knowledge" because I haven't player BZ yet
@@oreoninja197 That's why I replied. Too expand your knowledge.
@@tjarkschweizer good to know for my BZ run, ty
Love your channel been watching since you started making videos
Thanks Jam! Thats a long time ago now, I appreciate you sticking around!
“Me and ghosty are now the best of friends”
Ghosty: *aggressively swimming and screaming at you*
nice vid ideea, love your videos
I love your videos and as soon as I see your videos I want to watch them.I also love your art where did you get it? Did you make it yourself?
For me Sea Dragon is the best. Out of all the unfriendly leviathans he is the only one who CAN become friendly. Hit him ONCE with a prawn suit's drill and here you go. Now you have another friend besides Sea Emperor
Lets go , nice job bro 👏 ❤
Thanks nikandrud!
I love the glow whale. Sure it’s a bit uninspired but you can hatch a pet whale. And interact with them. Better than reefback at least.
Criminal they cut baby reefbacks
Reefback ripoff lmao
I love Aletho's video style and editing, i am actually mindblown bro only has 60k subs like wtf this is amazing stuff good job brother keep up the excellent work❤😊
Thanks Alexander! :)
I really hope the next Subnautica can learn from the mistakes below zero made, I still remember my first encounter with every OG leviathan so well, but not with below zero. This video reminded me of how much I love this game, my first play through was one of the best times of my life and few games truly caught the "alien planet" as well as Subnautica. Though I will say, because I'm one of those no-lives who questions things that don't make sense, why do I not spontaneously disintegrate when I am several kilometers underneath sea level???? That always made me laugh whenever I played the game. I think I will play some Subnautica later today. Also if you made this far Aletho, why don't you make a video on what you want to see for the next Subnautica? Just a suggestion, anyways have a great day! 😊
@alexanderwilton3154 I think the original game once had a pressure mechanic so you'd get pressure sickness if you came up to quickly!
I have been absolutely hurt by the Sea Dragon being ranked so low. How can you not like that adorable fireball shooting creature! He always wears a smile as he tries to murder you!
Seeing the Reefback getting all the way up to 4th place has just made my day, thank you!
They can try to kill me while im vibin on the quarantine enforcement platform
I love the big reefbacks, they are the some reason I usually build my base around the grassy plains
The sea dragon still terrifies me to this day
There is nothing scarier than hearing one in the distance
my first reaper experience was when my bf told me there were cyclops parts behind the aurora. It came barelling out of the murk and i screamed at the top of my lungs, abandoned my seamoth, and seaglided my entire way back to my base without turning around even once
Boys will be boys
Probably the best subnautica listing i've seen. I agree with each one of the rankings
my homie told me yeah subnautica is a great game get it its so good. this went on for like at least half a year
then there was a steam sale with 20 bucks for both games. so i got them both.
then he told me yeah when you got your radiation suit go behind the aurora there is lots of good stuff.
so i jumped into my seamoth and went there. I was streaming it to my friend to get some help. I went there, thinking of nothing bad at all. then i heard a roar that made my blood freeze. my seamoth got destroyed, my will to live also. I screamed at my friend and said id never touch this game again (i played it 5 minutes later again)
great game would recommend but dont trust your homie who told you to buy the game :)
my first time seeing a ghost leviathan was when searching for the blood kelp zone but going the wrong direction and hear the adult ghost leviathan scream and my PDA saying : warning entering into ecological dead zone
I completely agree with your thoughts on the reef back.
My list would have been almost exactly the same, I just would have swapped the first two and second place. Loved the other-worldliness of the Ghost. Scared the shit out of me the first time I ran into it. I got to where I just played with the Reapers when I zoomed through their territory. Their scream is usually enough to let me dodge them no problem, but I've had Ghosts sneak up without making a sound. At the end of the day, they're both awesome.
I understand why you hate the sea dragon. When i was going down to the sea emperor, a sea dragon and a warper teamed up on me. I plan to get my revenge sometime in the future.
I have (NO JOKE) developed childhood trauma because of that goddamn reaper leviathan. I've recently been replaying Subnautica and everytime I see him patrolling around in that small little place at the aurora I have a mini heart attack. One time when I was but a small child, I was minding my own buisness somewhere around the mushroom place in my seamoth, and when i looked up I saw his terrifying blue buttchin, paused the game and fell out of my chair. I was just lying on the floor for about 5 minutes contemplating if I should lie there, on the floor, for the rest of my life.
I was kinda sad seeing the shadow leviathan so low, but it’s your list so I won’t judge too much.
I agree that the shadow leviathan should have been used more but to me, exploring those areas were by far the scariest moments of below zero
see SL
press perimeter
only exit seatuck after being sure that its far away
fabricator cavern is such a trash area that my only thought was "why so shit"
I think the shadow leviathan suffers just what makes the reaper so scary. The first encounter with a reaper is usually on murky waters when it caughts you by surprise. On BZ when you reach the far bottom if you take away the lighting it becomes way more scary. Eliminate also that electric pulse addon from the vehicle and he will give you a run for your money. What makes you fear those creatures is not their size, it's the difficult to pinpoint where they are and the suspense created by their sounds
Sea dragons are terrifying when they spot you and just kind of sneak up on you before absolutely wrecking your day.
I think if there was an animation showing a sea dragon dragging a reaper down to the lava zone that would have made them seem way cooler.
My personal ranking:
1. Reaper
2. Sea Emperor
3. Shadow
4. Ghost
5. Cherlicerate
6. Sea Dragon
7. Reefback
8. Sea Treader
9. Ice worm
10. Vent Garden
11. Glow Whale
Aletho: casually ranks the sea-treader higher than the dragon.
I remember one time I went to my freinds house and he was playing subnuatica, it was night in the game and he was in his seamoth in the pitch black water, we suddenly heard the sound of the reaper very nearby, but we couldn't find out which direction it was coming from, until he looked above him and the reaper charged at him and grabbed him, we were terrified and were screamed and then started lughing
The biggest problem I have with the shadow leviathan is mainly that it only tickles the sea truck. The reaper almost one shots the seamoth, the sea truck survives grab attacks like it's nothing.
Design wise, the Ice Worm is the coolest creature in below zero, basically the “poster leviathan” for that game. But gameplay wise they ruined it. I heard in beta it was actually really fun to be chased down by it. Now it just barely touches you and throws you off your snow fox..
I love the Reaper Leviathan so much that I made a base very near one of them. It's always fun when I need to build or plant something outside of my base. I also lost several Seamoths because I parked them too close to my base 😂
I always make my base next to dunes, to watch reaper and get xisto/ruby
I really remember memory when I first got Subnautica below zero I was in creative mode in my truck In the void me and my friend were playing and I remember hearing annoys behind me, and I turned around and all I saw was a giant leviathan zooming towards me and me, and my friend screamed at the top of our lungs. Those were the days.
1 chelicerate, I love its design so much it feels like they took the idea of a reaper and made it feel like a real creature
2 ice worm
3 ghost
4 reefback and ventgarden
5 sea treader (my shale go bling bling)
Loser - the reaper, that thing scary
I told you you are the king of the sea and your list is similar to mine😊 you are the best brother
Glad you enjoyed it mate! :)
I wanna see Riley getting a vid and the peeper and the stalker and the lifepod
The Sea dragon also just looks goofy with its arms just paddling about
0:33 seriously this is the greatest one in my opinion
I’ve crapped my pants to many time while encountering the reaper, I just don’t get scared by it now.
For bellow zero i found the squid shark in the area bellow the ravine were you find allant the scariest mob in the game because you cannot get your seatruck here and the area make you feel like you are being hunted with the tentacle plant that scare you to death line when i played bellow zero for the first time it was the area that i found the scariest of the game
This was a good video 😊
Thank you! Steiner!😁
man honestly the shadow leviathan was probably my candidate for the top because the damn thing kept sneaking up on me. like I would see a tail go around a corner, or that glowing mouth in the distance, but when I got my prawn suit ready to head down and fight the damn thing it would be nowhere to be found until it jumps me and takes 40% of my health. it almost never failed to make me go "GHUUUAUAAA FUCK!!"
My personal favorite will always be Ghost Levy. And IMO it is the scariest. And looks very cool. I mean, Reaper literally screams all the time so mostly you can easily hear it and just avoid it. Ghost levy is stealthy. You just hear a strange shriek thinking nothing of it and staying calm, and THEN you see it... or just take a massive hit. They're also very well-mannered, never grabbing your seamoth or prawn. Actually, they do not want to eat you, they're just protecting their territory!
And that creepy feeling when you, for some reason, swim right into the void without noticing. When you suddenly notice that there is nothing but darkness surrounding you, no music is playing, it is absolute silence around you... And then you realize... Hopefully before you see or hear THEM.
P.S. Also, my first encounter with Ghost is unforgettable. I met my first reaper that ate my seamoth, so I, absolutely terrified, swam with my glider like a psycho. Only when I found myself in a beautiful blue biome surrounded by beautiful glowing orbs I finally felt a relief. Only to find out that even beautiful places contain something insanely dangerous...
Aletho, nice content
Thanks IOSA!
5:15 I remember seeing those for the first time. I was a kid, and i just watched that “Gorefield” thing, and when i saw those, my heart skipped a beat due to the cat like ears, weird posture and three pegs for legs
I've really only played Subnautica on creative, the first time being when I was pretty little. The Reaper was ALWAYS my favorite, just because it was. The first one I saw was behind the Aurora. I named him Gary :)
Came up behind the Aurora using my sonar and theres that reaper right there in the dark on the sonar only.😮
One thing about the Sea Treader is they dig up rocks for you.
Just swim around their legs and snouts and watch the rocks full of diamond, gold and lithium appear.
I always used to go to the mountain Island as an early game source for diamonds mostly.
Never again.
Sea Treader it is
Rating the chelly higher than the shadow leviathan was probably the most unexpected take here.
when bro was talking about the sea treader when i heard the subnautica sound effect i actually got scared irl even though i wasnt even playing subnautica 💀
The sea dragon leviathan is such a BUTT. It's an annoyance more than it is scary, like the wormy jerk.
The reaper ghost are the goats and that will never change
My main problem with the chelicerate is that it's kinda just Below Zero's reaper, which were some pretty gargantuan shoes to fill given that thing gave me nightmares for 3 months
My criteria for favourite leviathan can best be summed up as "Will it give me a heart attack?" The less they do the further up they go. For that reason the Vent Garden takes my # 1 spot for it being so benign, and I do like watching the juveniles floating around.
9:17 "installing fear" naw him and I are just shareing chocolate milk.
The reaper will always be my favorite thing in subnautica, he is the face of the game, nothing will ever surpass the fear and stress of my First encounter with the reaper
I’ve also started to really like the chelicerate it’s like a mixture of a dolphin and lobster or I’m I going crazy
“The reaper leviathan is the best danger noodle”
Sounds about right
My most favourite leviathan by far is Shadow Leviathan. Yes, it is an endgame leviathan, but i built a base in Crystal Caves where he swims. It has, as you said, a great design, good sound and a horrifying appearance, that's why he became my favourite.
Aletho ever thought about doing a lethal company series? Any type of vid about the game?
love your content
Woah.. today I learned it's called a "Seat TREADER". I had always seen it as "Sea trader" and I was thinking.. hm.. ok it makes sense to be a trader path, like in olden days where you'd see traders walking long distances.. hahaha.. I will stick to my version probably :)
The ghost leviathan is gorgeous. I want their eggs to hatch too.
I’m not a huge fan of the Sea Dragon because of its one-tap potential from range. Reaper encounters are frightening because they like to give you a hug and say hi, and their attacks don’t really kill unless you were already on death’s door. Sea Dragon attacks just instant kill while it stays far away.
