Jimmy, the VW starter bolted to the bellhousing thar in turn bolted to the transaxle....My brother used to build VW motors and he would use a cutaway VW bellhousing to stand test engines...looks like you have room in there to add a starter and clear the mag. If position is wrong ...depending on application the starter could clock at a different position according to bellhousing application. Also, it looks like you have room for an alternator stand under the shroud. The cooling fan delete shouldn't be a problem as it does nothing to support the alternator. It's just a drive through the alternator to drive the fan.
Also old VWs that have sat awhile can have some sticky valves as well as valve face/seat rust. These normally clear up after start up.. but it doesn't hurt to pop the covers, lube the valves, then give then a few light hammer taps prior to start up. This is also the time to check valve lash

He was both a military and FAA certified parachute rigger and instructor he was appointed to the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) He was a collector of model trains, building a large train room in his retirement home for his “O Scale” trains Lou was a lifetime member the Special Forces Association (“Decader”), a life member of the Army War College Foundation and a member of the Army Navy Country Club in Arlington, Va. In addition, he belonged to the Special Forces Regiment, designated as an “ARSOF Icon” (Army Special Operations Forces), a DARPA Alumni, Distinguished Member of the Quartermaster Corps, and a Quartermaster Corps Hall of Fame recipient. Volkswagon motors are commonly used in light aircraft. they can be dependable if fully gone over. My neighbor built a plane and put a VW motor in it and flew it off the cow pasture field across the street from our suburban homes in Wichita. It worked he flew it around and brought it back and landed it. Homemade airplane he welded together in his basement. Experimental. Worked. this was early seventies when I was a child.

You needed to have your fuel bottle vented, a closed bottle system would create reverse Suction to the carb not allowing fuel to flow, hence the reason it would run when you manually squeeze the bottle forcing fuel pressure into the carb. She would of started within 10 blades with proper fuel I'd say, great video tho!

The answer to that question is, 'It's because they're much simpler and they don't as many components as a newer aircraft.' This means that there's less to go wrong. Jimmy, I watch other people's CZcams videos. Most of them clean out the carburetors of the engines they're on. So many of them are quite dirty, with their passages clogged with dried fuel. A few of them put them in parts washers to rid them of that dried fuel. Sleeper Dude has one of those cleaners. I didn't see you once you cleaned a single carburetor. I believe that those difficult to start engines would start sooner in the event you clean those carburetors instead of needing to spin a prop at the front of those aircrafts. You know how sore your arm will be the morning after you spun them a few hundred times, as you and Jesse did with that Volkswagen engine in that replica.
