  • Got my hands on the new Bluetooth connected "Philips Sonicare DiamondClean smart" toothbrush, let's open it up and see what's wrong with it..
    3:00 min - opening of the toothbrush
    8:30 min - what's new
    14:00 min - repair/defect explanation
    in the US Philips homepage found information that smart sonicare diamondclean toothbrush uses different charger from old diamondclean toothbrushes, so it seams it's as easy as that :) I will get one and then do some more testing how it behaves in the proper charger when the battery deeply discharges.

    SUCH a great video! Thank you very much for sharing this with us! I was able to revive 3 Sonicare DiamondClean toothbrushes watching your videos. Truly, Philips has a poor engineering team because the keep producing expensive $200 toothbrushes that are prone to loss of vibration damage from a mere 1.5 foot drop. It's pathetic they haven't resolved this issue after 10+ years of producing the Sonicare DiamondClean. But thanks to you we can now fix it on our own! You're a genius!!!

    Thank you so much! I have this model and opening the bottom cap is different than the other model and you figuring it out saved me from scratching up my cap. And so glad you showed each side of the internals because I had a piece fall out and didn't know which orientation it's suppose to be screwed back and this showed me exactly. Thank you again! Cost me only 10$ for pliers and breaking a plastic pry tool which is way cheaper than buying a new sonicare.

    Thanks for sharing this. My Sonicare 9700 shaft became wobbly after 6 months and Philips sent me a new one. They didn't ask for the old one back so I decided to fix it. Really easy fix once I got it opened following your instructions. I found buying a soft jaw plier helped a lot since I don't have worry about damaging the handle when trying to open it up.

    Thanks for the help! The clips holding in the interior mechanism on the new diamond clean smart HX992W are on the longer sides, opposite of the one in your video. Once we got it open all we had to do was tighten a screw! Saved us $200!

      same here. the pen came loose and it was vibrating loudly. All it need was to tighten one single screw. Before that I called Philips customer support who sent me a new device (still in warranty) and recommended to dump the old one, which I luckily didn't do 🙂. Now I've 2 devices, hurray

    • @letsfixitgarage
      @letsfixitgarage  Pƙed 2 lety

      Not really, I suspect it had water damage.. then it's tricky, there is still something unrepaired, trace or component.. if initially it was only vibrations problem look for something that was damaged in the repair process.. with electronics there is no magic but remote diagnostic is almost impossible..

    Hey, I've got a question. My wife is using Sonicare HX9330 and I've just bought HX9350. I've noticed that they has different sealings around the shaft. The older one HX9330 has a seal with a plastic ring, and the HX9350 has a flat rubber seal without any ring. Is it ok? Why are they different? Just like on your video at 0:04 - two different types of sealing.

    • @letsfixitgarage
      @letsfixitgarage  Pƙed 3 lety +1

      Yes both of them are fine. The flat one without plastic cap is a new one, improved design. Should be easier to clean. But I had one of those in repair as well so you do have to take care for both of them :)

    I have a smart diamondclean as well. I was able to remove the cover and get to the insides to replace the battery. After replacing, it would light up when i put it on the charger, but after charging half a day, it still won't do anything when I remove it from the charger. It doesn't light up, doesn't vibrate. Is it basically damaged and can't be fixed easily?

    • @letsfixitgarage
      @letsfixitgarage  Pƙed 2 lety

      Well from my experience batteries on these toothbrushes outlive the brush itself and rarely needs replacement. So it's either water damage or some other malfunction on the brush. Maybe a charging chip broke.. these smart diamondclean are sadly much more difficult to repair as the older ones..

  • @korieboctor2260
    @korieboctor2260 Pƙed 4 lety

    Can this smart toothbrush be disassembled to fix the problem of no vibration, like your other video? I removed it from the housing but I'm not sure if the two pieces can be separated due to the ribbon strip near the electromagnet. Would love it if you had a video to fix no vibration for this newer "smart" model.

    • @letsfixitgarage
      @letsfixitgarage  Pƙed 4 lety

      In older toothbrush this ribon cable is just glued to the frame. You can try to heat it up and the glue should soften a little bit to take it off. when you will perform the magnet spacing procedure you can reattach it back. if it wouldnt hold you can apply some glue to hold it in place..
      sadly I don't get these new type toothbrushes often so can't make this video..

  • @register1430
    @register1430 Pƙed 3 lety +2

    great help thank you. I keep coming back when service required . The removal is such a bear with the tabs. You have to have keep decent pressure down and go side to side with the pry tool. My new issue was no start but with the orange battery LED flashing a few times but no power. The reset sequence would work with the 3 buzz x 2. Mine had moisture inside. Not much but damp. I used electronics specific CRC spray all over the board top and bottom , let it dry and charge - green LED - showed right away. Might need to replace the tip covers.

    • @letsfixitgarage

    • @letsfixitgarage
      @letsfixitgarage  Pƙed rokem

      There are two ways. First is slightly pull up the motherboard, where the two wires are connected to the motherboard, so you can desolder the two wires. The other way is to have a wery this Philips screwdriver. If you see in the middle of the motherboard there is a hole if you push the whole electromagnet to the battery side you will see that the Hiden screw aligns nicely with the hole. ;) In this place I woul like to say thank you to the Philips for making these brushes so repairable ;) not sure why they need it in assembly process but for repair this hole is very nice thing :)

      yes if the battery is lover than 3.6 its not necessary to remove the battery just take a laboratory power supply set voltage to 4V amperage to 0.5-1A and add positive lead to the positive battery terminal, negative to the negative. when battery voltage rises to 3-3.6 volts it should wake up if no further problems are on the motherboard

    I’ve watched four different videos on opening up these and I found the best method is to use the wrench to gently squeeze around the base, I have a pair with plastic inserts that were great, with an isesami opening tool the base popped out easily then to get the rest out I used a shim made from a flat piece of plastic from a water bottle about the size of a credit card this will fit between the outer case and the inner part pushed down and used a small pick to move the inner clip allowing the shim past holding the clips open and then it’s easy to push it out without violently banging as one guy suggested

There is one way around it to get to the screw that is under the motherboard. There is a hole in the motherboard where you can access it if you have a Philips pH000 screw driver. Have you seen an issue where the toothbrush looks like it is resetting/restarting/shorting(?) when placed on a charger? I repaired a wobbly head but when I put it back together I noticed this issue. It lights up and continues to blink but does not seem to hold a hold a charge (I left it on the charger overnight and still goes dead when removed).
    I may have checked a couple things with my multimeter while the battery was still connected 😇 Is there a way to reset the battery by applying current?
    Here is what's happening:

    • @letsfixitgarage
      @letsfixitgarage  Pƙed měsĂcem

      Thanks for your support really appreciate it. Sorry I can't check the video on my phone in this respect CZcams studio app needs a lot of work, and on my laptop I will be only in one week. If there is blinking lights, restarting I always suspect water damage. In what state was the upper seal? Was there some black marks, tears, have you found water marks or water inside? You can check it by pullig the rubber seal slightly apart as sometimes there are micro tears that get visible when you pull it apart. If it's smart DiamondClean it's bad news.. if it gets water inside they are much more difficult to repair after water damage. Old DiamondClean (one button) are easier to repair you can check my other videos for that. If you want to hard reset just desolder a solder spot next to the negative battery contact this removes battery power completely from motherboard and it resets. You can measure battery at its contacts, if it's 3.6v and above motherboard has sufficient voltage if it's below it could be that it's not sufficient and you need to charge it with power supply. Set power supply to 4v 1a and apply positive to positive battery contact and negative to negative battery contact to charge it up.. one more thought: rare but it happens that battery legs breaks at the battery, it helps to desolder the battery contacts and take the battery out, doing this sometimes battery leg falls off revealing the problem.. hope this helps to find the real problem.

      @@letsfixitgarage I’m pretty sure it’s not water damage because the device is still relatively new and when I opened it up to reattached the screw on the head, I did not notice water ingress. I’ll open it up again, de/resolder the jumper, and inspect various things
 this is the fun part.

    • @leoport
      @leoport Pƙed měsĂcem

      @@letsfixitgarage Just to close the loop on this: The hard reset (de/resolder jumper) had no effect, but I noticed continuity issues with the fuse. I replaced it with a 3A 0603 fuse and it lit right up. Yay.

    • @letsfixitgarage
      @letsfixitgarage  Pƙed měsĂcem

      Nice job! That being said it's very uncommon for these fuses to go bad on their own. usually only after water damage and even then traces are the ones that give up first and not the fuse.. so if it will die in near future look for something else as well, it could be some chips on the motherboard that get hot during usage or charging the brush.. don't want to discourage your find, just giving some ideas :) hope the repair will hold!

    • @letsfixitgarage
      @letsfixitgarage  Pƙed rokem +1

      rattling? seal purpose is to hold water out of inseide.. if you have ratling you have aproblem with fixture of the stick. it could be a loose screw or broken part.. you need to take it apart for detailed inspection..
