      There is a lot of different Sonicare models but the nice thing is that they use the same drive mechanismus. So even with cheap brush you get the same cleaning action.

    Thank you very much for this! My Sonicare was exhibiting the same issues, probably the result of dropping it... previously Philips replaced it under warranty but several years later it happened again out of warranty, your video was the most helpful resource I found on how to repair it.
    A few notes that might help others:
    - I couldn't find anything plastic to remove the bottom cap so I used a flat head screwdriver, it made a few small indents on the cap but worked OK. Prising this bit off is quite hard so keep at it, you can apply quite a lot of pressure with the adjustable wrench to get a decent amount of opening.
    - I found it really tricky to work out how to open the plastic grips that hold the internals in, none of the descriptions online were that helpful. The trick to know is that these plastic catches can be pulled away from the outer case towards the internals. I found using a flat head screwdriver against the bottom of the catch (which you can see on the left and right of the internals if you look inside with a torch), nudging it towards the internals until it pops out worked best. It's still a bit fiddly though. Just keep in mind you want to pull the catches "inwards" (towards the internals) until they disconnect from the outer casing.
    - I managed to snap one of the plastic teeth that holds the circuit board of the bottom bit on to the top bit, so it wouldn't snap back into place properly. I ended up using Blutack to stick it in place. The correct alignment of the circuit board is so that you can see only the top "hole" on the metal frame underneath, the two T shaped bits should be totally covered as this is where it slides on. If you do the same and get the alignment wrong, it won't work when you put it back together as the switch is misaligned.
    - My magnets were stuck together when I opened it. You need to prise them apart with a flat head screwdriver. It feels hard to do because they are magnetically attracted but you can do it with a bit of force!
    - The first time I fixed it, I used two bits of thin plastic from some packaging to space out the magnets. This worked quite well, but I could still feel the handle itself vibrating somewhat and it didn't feel quite as powerful as I remember it originally being.
    - I also noticed that the seal was totally rotted away, which had caused a bit of damage already in that a couple of the "mode" lights don't work any more due to corrosion, so I put it back together, used a rubber band tightly wrapped around the shaft as a temporary seal, and ordered a new seal from eBay. You want a mk2 seal. Search for something like "PHILIPS SONICARE WATERPROOF shaft seal rings MK2 HX6730 HX6511 SPARE REPAIR UK"
    - The second time I fixed it, I used three bits of the thin plastic to space it out. This works much better.
    - The second time, I also managed to snap the thin wires connecting the two parts :( Be careful with these as they are only soldered on and if you move them too much, they'll snap. I was able to solder them back on without too much trouble (and I'm rubbish at soldering), so don't worry too much if this happens, but do try to avoid it!
    Anyway, my Sonicare is back to full health and all sealed up now, and if I drop it again, I'll know what to do. Thanks for the video and for saving me £100!

    I discovered that if you have a rubber tip air gun nozzle, you can blow compressed air in the center hole to get it open. Depending how good of seal you have you wont need to use channel locks. I usually can get it to pop right off. It takes all the anxiety away from potentially damaging the the toothbrush. I hope this helps. Your videos are the best, extremely informative and in depth. Your the only one I've found putting out this level of content. Thank you for all your hard work and keep it coming. You helped me fix my Sonicare in less then a half-hour and saved me a lot of money in the process.

    • @letsfixitgarage
      @letsfixitgarage  Před 3 lety +2

      I saw this method but havent tried it yet as in the video that I saw they cut away the rubber sealing. If it's water damaged then it's no problem but if you have a good seal and fix is just retighten a screew or make space for electromagnet it seemed to be wasteful.. but it is very efficient and as you said no anxiety to break something! Thanks for sharing and a good word! I try to make videos and channel that I look for, efficient and right to the solution :) altough these kind of videos come in handy only once, when they break, so hope that this toothbrush will remain popular in the world :D

    I followed these instructions and yes, it totally worked! I would like to point out that during the part where he removes the back top cover hiding the screw, you can actually just pull the battery pack backwards and the cap will slide out from its slots. This way you won't have to pry it off and cause possible damage. Also, for the spacer I used a zip tie that was about 1mm thick. I didn't have superglue so I gave myself more room knowing that eventually the coil pack will slip upwards regardless. Maybe I'll have some superglue ready for next time. But I'm DEFINITELY not buying another Sonicare in the future when I can just FIX IT!

    • @letsfixitgarage
      @letsfixitgarage  Před 2 lety +1

      It's a thing of luck sometimes the battery pack slides off very easy sometimes you need to push quite strong to take it apart.. as for glue not sure if I would recommend this approach better use screw tightening liquid.. it's designed for exactly this task ;) and yes it's a good feeling when you can repair device that you own, that's why I really hope that right to repair will be a thing in future.. ;)

    One remark - I'd put threadlocker not only to the threads but also between the screw head and the metal casing to prevent the electromagnet slipping. In fact I did so when fixing my toothbrush.

    • @letsfixitgarage
      @letsfixitgarage  Před 3 lety

      Yes threadlock doesn't hurt, as we can't get the screw tightening forces that the manufacturer uses.. I do believe that space between magnets and screw tightening force is a calculated value at the manufacturer Hause that saves from further damage.. but if we don't have it adding the threadlock helps to have it opened one more time..

    Thanks man. Was a few clicks away from buying a new one due to the wobbling head when I found your video. Bit nervous about getting the base off, but worked perfectly. Just needed to tighten the screw put it back together and it's working perfectly.

      If it will start wobbling again buy screw tightening liquid like loctite for the next intervention ;) p.s. and spread the word if you can :)

    THANKS!!!
    This saved me 100€ for a new toothbrush!
    My brush dropped and didn´t work any longer, but now it works again! Thank you!
    The only thing I did different is the removal of the bottom plate. I glued with a glue gun a stick of hot glue to it and just pulled it of. I saw that in another video, and it worked well.

    Thank you so much! There was one other video, but it wasn't a Diamondclean. It did detail adjusting the spoke for the brush heas, but you clearly detailed how to remove the innards. The screw and "bracket"(the little triangular piece that the screw goes through) were completely off mine! This gave me the confidence to fix this myself.

    Amazing tutorial, thank you for posting! I had my HX9362 since 2015 and it started to loose power late last year when brushing. I made the mistake of not watching the whole video and my gap was a little too small when I went to reassemble it. After unscrewing a second time and making the gap slightly larger I put it all together and was amazed at how much power the brush head had again. I also managed to break one of the small wires during the second disassembly but a little solder sorted that out easily. For the gap I used two plastic pieces that I cut from some packaging in my recycling box. Saved me $200 CAD as well as all the e-waste that would be generated from the brush as well as the case and extra charger. Fantastic tutorial and was a good lesson for my kids as well. If the problem returns I'm going to place a piece of plastic from an old credit card in order to stop the screws from moving up the channel. Once again, thanks for the tutorial!

      @letsfixitgarage  Před 4 lety +1

      Thanks for your comment! Yes I like the idea of preventing e-waste too! as the toothbrush is quite reliable and li ion battery holds for very long time to. it's a good design with some flaws that can be fixed.. in video I speak about small gap but as you said it can be to small.. 1-2mm after you take out the spacer is usually a good rule of thumb :) and did I understand correctly that you want to leave the plactic spacer inside the electromagnet? Can't advise it.. vibrations will be very small or not existing.. if the thread gets damaged try to use some glue inside the thread or even around it but the gap has to be free.. thanks again and good luck in fixind stuff!

      @@letsfixitgarage I was thinking of some way of stopping the screws from moving. I used a mild thread lock on the screws. Plastic in that dead space in front of the screw to keep it from moving forward. Like 1mm x 2mm depending on the space. No plastic between the magnets, just for the adjustment space where the screws are.

    • @letsfixitgarage
      @letsfixitgarage  Před 4 lety

      @@antonioarroyas7662 ok, that's an interesting idea, in principle you could try to use some dense epoxy glue to fill in the space and when it will harden it should have the same efect. But from my experience thread lock does quite a fair job usually if it gets droped on the head then it gets stuck to the electromagnet..

    • @antonioarroyas7662
      @antonioarroyas7662 Před 4 lety

      @@letsfixitgarage over the years I've learned (as I'm sure you have) to make one change at a time. Sometimes I'd be working on a project and come up with a fantastic idea to make it better in the process but when I finish it's worse. With this project I used a very mild thread lock in case I need to undo the screws again the the future. I also showed a picture of the design to my brother-in-law who is a mechanical engineer. He said it looks like they designed the screws to be able to move a bit so that the head would be less likely to crack when it gets dropped. Brushed my teeth this morning and it was amazing, I forgot how good it performed when it was brand new.

    • @antonioarroyas7662
      @antonioarroyas7662 Před 4 lety

      When my brother-in-law and I were looking at the design we noticed a few very interesting things. The screws let it move a little in case it gets dropped and the torque is very precise. This let's a person who bought one drop it by mistake during the warranty period without it breaking. All the other parts like the head can't absorb impact because they need to be hard. The design is very intelligent because of the second purpose. If you treat the bush with care (clean the seal according to the manual and the other things they recommend) it will be about four or five years before problems (looking at the age on Amazon reviews for older units like mine). Our hypothesis is this: they want the average unit to last double the warranty period for two reasons. Money from replacement brush heads and a when the unit does malfunction the customer is willing to buy a replacement because it did last a reasonably long time. This hypothesis was made a little stronger when we looked at the time they keep a single model on the market. We were very impressed with the engineering and business strategy being combined so elegantly. We couldn't think of any other company that does this with such perfection. Yes, we are both nerds that love working on cars, motorcycles, computers and electronics. We were both the kids that took apart our toys and couldn't put them back together most of the time. Our parents were never too happy with us as kids but now they call us when something breaks. Keep up the good work! When you get your camera setup figured it I'd redo the earlier video on the magnet fix and make it as professional as possible with very clear steps and photos in the editing for the average person to be able to follow. You have a very unique opportunity on CZcams as your tutorial was by far the best one I've seen. Millions of these units are out there and a really good quality video (iFixIt style) could really make your channel explode!

    Thank you for this. Mine wasn't losing power but it was noisy. I think it was from dropping it on the head too many times. I increased the space between the magnet and the electromagnet and that metal tab stopped vibrating loudly which was the same sound you had at the end of the video. I ended up maxing out the distance and it worked no problem.

    My toothbrush had lost a significant amount of brushing power. Adjusting the coil-magnet gap is what mine needed. A strip cut off an old credit card worked good for me.
    The front end of the plastic circuit board holder took some wiggling to get it disconnected from the metal frame. Pulling it fully back and wiggling it left and right finally got the plastic t into the metal slot.
    Thanks!
