Main common issues I've found with these particularly the Type S/R with the 6 speed is the 2nd and 3rd gear syncros can wear out if the last owner thrashed the car. Usually you'll know if it grinds at all or pops out of gear while you're shifting. Also another big thing is water leak through the tail light seals which causes water to pool up in the spare tyre well and you'll hear it splashing around corners
check under the spare wheel, sometimes the seal on the trunk fails and water gets in and gathers under the spare wheel. u can get some bad rust like that. i checked out a nice one and it had a huge hole in it
I want this type s to stay oem as possible, thats why i put the stock one back in. You dont get much hp gain from a short ram especially when then air filter is sitting near an exhaust

Check door actuators and check for parasitic draws with the car off if possible ( bring a test light)

Tail light seals are the issue, not the hatch seal.
