He's not the assassin. The second playable character is and she's fittingly a ninja.
What do you mean? They will diversify Sengoku era Japan to have people of all races walking around 😂
I doubt he will be an assasin, more like a court mole, an inside man for the assasin female character.
on the other hand a guy on a white hooded robe would pass completely unnoticed
Never forget that Warhorse Studios was getting grilled for not including minorities in a historical setting in which THERE WERE NO MONDERN AMERICA MINORITIES. Stop trying to rewrite history, I hate these people.
Some guy at Ubisoft saw the euphemism "my ninja" and ran with it.
They think we're all ninjas with hard j.
That race thing is the least problematic issue. Thats just goofy and dumb. The reason why it has any meaning is that it shows what they are doing; hiding their evil market strategy behind the ol racism effect. He became Portuguese property again. People don't seem to realize Nobunaga was a flamboyant weirdo in that era, and that was virtually a pet to him.

Why do people keep buying these games??
almost all the AAA game companies have become like this.
@@MegaChaos91 ===>>>^^^^OH LOOK EVERYONE! WE HAVE A QUIRKY GUY WHO PLAYS RETRO GAMES HERE!!!^^^^===

i mean the monthly does look like a good deal so whats bad about it? and dont you get other perks with the subscription other than the game?
Don't get me wrong, but pre ordering is acceptable, people pay for the next 2 dlc upfront so they get more funds to invest In the updates (assuming they actually invest in the upcoming update and not just deposit into pocket). It's also optional. People who only pay for the base game still get the updates once they release
Just for historical clarification, because I know the comment section will be full of fighting;
>Yasuke was a real person but his legend has been blown out of proportion
>He arrived with a Jesuit missionary by the name of Alessandro Valigano but was never referred to as a slave or being owned
>Oda Nobunaga was fascinated by his skin color, which makes sense, but people in power tend to collect things to display their wealth/power and often surrounded themselves with people of other races or physical deformities because they were rare or one of a kind (look into the history of court jesters)
>Nobunaga asked if Yasuke could stay and Alessandro said yes, no form of transaction was mentioned, the monk being asked could be interpreted as ownership or as, "hey, do you mind traveling alone because I want your companion to stay here."
>Yasuke was made a retainer, which is roughly the same level as a samurai but not at all the same thing, this was most likely to keep him safe from the populace that considered him a demon
>Eventually Yasuke was made into, effectively, Oda's page-boy, which was a person that did various chores, announced people, etc. but primarily acted as a human shield
>After Nobunaga's death, the only fight Yasuke was mentioned being in occurred where he fought to protect Nobunaga's heir but was captured
>Mitsuhide, the man the led the rebellion against Nobunaga, saved Yasuke from death by saying (I'm paraphrasing here) Yasuke was basically an animal and didn't know what he was doing and didn't belong in Japan.
>Yasuke was shipped off to India where nothing else is known about him except that he wrote a letter praising God for him surviving the rebellion
Having said all of this, the AC games have never been accurate so I wouldn't expect them to actually follow Yasuke's story and it's not new for them to find/invent characters that are either incredibly obscure or borderline impossible to exist to scream how inclusive they are or rail against supposed/actual historical injustices. But it's funny how they'd be on the frontlines screaming against cultural appropriation but the Japanese comment sections are full of Japanese people saying "they had all of Japanese history and they decided to make a foreigner one of the two main characters?"
At the end of the day it doesn't super matter because Ubisoft and pretty much every other "AAA" developer is dying from terrible game after terrible game and even if Shadows is (magically) the bestest best game of the series it won't save them from the decline they're on toward shuttering.
Thanks for the history lesson this was an interesting read/post.
1. It's a video game.
2. Assassin's Creed has aliens and magic technology. Da Vinci in real life did not invent a fully functional tank as he did in AC2.
3. Nioh 1 (which was developed by a Japanese studio) even includes Yasuke as a boss. No one was outraged by making him a samurai in that game.

@@halo10001it's ok to include the -lbm- BLM character but he isn't the main playable protagonist there. What is infuriating is the forced DEI bs they shoving.
Fascinated by his skin colour is a light way of putting it. The records say Nobunaga asked him to strip and wash his colour off because he didn’t believe he was actually black, and then had him paraded around Kyoto.

A samurai is also a retainer. In fact samurai are THE retainers. You can't be a samurai unless you are a retainer to a feudal lord otherwise you are labelled as a Ronin aka a rogue samurai and orders are to kill you on sight. A lot of gamers have begged Ubisoft for years to make an Assassin’s Creed game that sets in Japan as a Samurai. They waited so long that we longer care since most gamers love Ghost of Tsunami instead. And now they give us this garbage that literally nobody meant that this is want we wanted.
The black character is apparently based on some real person during that time period, who was also a black samurai (although some are saying he never was a samurai).
For a dev team that says it’s as historically accurate as possible outside of the overall story, if that is indeed wrong, that is just a checklist being filled out rather than then doing their job.
If it’s historically accurate, then I wouldn’t mind it at all since it’s *accurate* to history.
And yeah, the game is way over priced and has been leaked to be a live service game as well, but that could have been changed during development.
But boy oh boy! I can’t wait until they add over two times more armor and weapons to their in game store than what you can earn in game! Each one being OP as well!
Like lightsabers and Iron Man blasts in Valhalla!
HISTORIC FACTS: 1) Yasuke by official recording was a page or koshō/小姓 /page in Japanese. What would be similar to a squire, page in medieval times? Not near a samurai, or even a medieval knight. 2) He also had a short sword (wakizashi) given since he was not of the noble class, or high standing and for Yosuke owning a katana would be a crime without permission. (Katana was not a fast-made sword even today and was for the elite only. Taking a year or years to be made.) Besides low-quality mass productions known as kazuuchimono like WWII katana swords. 3) Oda Nobunaga already used sword hunt /刀狩/ katanagari ordering the seizure of swords and a variety of other weapons from civilians/farmers in the Sengoku period in 1576 because of problems with an Ikkō-ikki group causing problems and certainly enforcing that law on his allies. In 1588 Toyotomi Hideyoshi similarly enforced the same law for a second time. 4) An interesting fact is that Feudal Japan was stratified by using religions such as Confucianism, Buddhism, and Shinto keeping the society stable, and stratified. Lasting nearly a millennium with changes in 1543(The first European arrival) isolation till 1853 (The arrival of Matthew Perry and opening.) and the drastic changes of 1868 (Meiji era) and then 1945 (After WWII) in culture, society, etc. 5)Daimyo in the war between themselves in the Sengoku period set rules including those loyal to Oda on the swords, and tanegashima (matchlocks) gun, weapons with control, and rules. The castles even had weapon storages, and in typical bureaucracy, they were counted and controlled, even secured behind the lock and key in the castle weapon storages. Since daimyo lands were at risk of invasion from other enemy daimyos, they did allow certain weapon groups, for self-defence, for the military, and outside it with permission besides other daily things that could serve as weapons and also, in response to avoid rebellions from commoners, non-nobility of their lands. It would be double pressure if the daimyo army rebelled when another enemy attacked. Meaning, that the local populace got less dangerous weapons, as they controlled more deadly ones. 6)Also, there were already permits, laws, what kind of weapon one could wear by status, what colour, material, decorations, etc. Noting their status in society thanks to the influence of China, and to easily regulate society. Just like armour by their type and appearance noting who they were in the army. 7) Yasuke would not wear a Ō-yoro/大鎧/great armour as seen in the video as it was meant for high-standing humans instead of a similar, plainer Dō-maru/胴丸)/body wrap which was for low-class samurai and servants as he was of bushi/ 武士/ warrior class with no given surname. The difference was fewer components, (less flashy) with less weight and without the decorative markings, or colour of the higher-ranking military ranks. 8) The strange part of the video is that armour was worn only in wars, not every day as it would be like wearing a special OPS uniform for daily life and chores. It would draw attention even before he would receive the secret note. 9) Yasuke was certainly of a slave background under the Portuguese Empire as the slave trade started well before the 1500s with their outposts in India where he was picked by Jesuits as written by Jesuit Luís Fróis. Slavery did not exist in Japan and was given to Oda by them, implying that he was subservient to the Jesuits. 10) The records tell that he was in Japan for three years staying with Jesuits and Oda (15 months in service) with no further recording and had less experience in war. And it would be a stretch, even for modern humans staying in Japan with norms, or getting masterful in kenjutsu sword fighting taught at a young age. Well, he could use other weapons besides katana. 11) He was for certain a curiosity in a monoculture society and Oda Nobunaga. Just like Pochahontas to English, the first Incas, Aztecs to Spanish, Native Americans to French, etc. Most Africans in monoculture societies from historical records in English, French, Spanish, and Portuguese royal courts from slavery would get employed because of their appearance as a curiosity for guests of their employees, or end up doing tricks. Sadly it was quite common. 12) He was returned to the Jesuits after the death of Oda after a stint in prison after a capture. (Not committing a seppuku as common for samurai.) Maybe he was spared that, or he was not a samurai. 13)There is information by Jesuit Luís Fróis - Historia de Japam Volume 1 through 4 that he by assumption would receive the title of tono also as dono/殿 との comparable to "lord" or "master". However, it does not imply noble status, or even samurai class as it was a show of respect title like the English milord, German Wohlgeboren, Spanish-don, etc. It is below the title of -sama in honorifics in Japan's honorific titles. 14) He had a house, not land as mentioned in records (since he was not part of the nobility, or even local) and a stipend that was a fixed regular sum paid as a salary or as expenses to a clergyman, teacher, or public official as he worked as a page or servant. The house could be claimed back after his service, or given with land for him after service as it was common in that period. 15) He definitely was not a samurai, as doing it in a term of 15 months would be a huge stretch as it takes years. Samurai training started at a young age, and society was stratified with rules, and control enforced.
All this 3 day early access is a damn server stress test
