  • After Angela's grandparents passed away, her family searched for the best home for the cat they had for 15 years. Angela just knew she had to take Mackenzie in, even though Mackenzie was feisty and grumpy all the time. She showered her with love, and one day, decided to start taking her out for adventures to see if Mackenzie would react a certain way. Now, that's how the two bond ❤️

@@kytrensol9777 Yeah, not everyone has the time to take their cats outside and unsupervised outdoor cats are something I can't get behind ethically since they have caused the extinctions of many native species across the world. The best compromise I guess is having them wear a bell since hunting is then made a lot more difficult but they are still at danger from cars then and no one wants that. You can play indoors with your cats if you can't take them out, and building little fenced-in window seats and indoor play walls is a great idea and a great way to keep your cats stimulated and having fun.

They used to take Mackenzie outside almost all the time, but as their health declined they couldn't travel much so Mackenzie had to stay at home instead. The cat didn't like that unfortunately and that's why she became grumpy until Angela adopted her and started taking her outside.

Bethany Smith. My biological mother had a mental chemical imbalance and gave me up when I was 2. Then my maternal Grandparents took me and gave me a wonderful home until I was 9, when they lost their Church..he was a sweet pastor.
They were already seniors, and their daughter, my Aunt and Uncle adopted me.
It hurt so losing each home. I thought there was something wrong with me (that's how kids think.)

You were either raised right and caring for his cat is a way of continuing to love and respect your dad or you're a good person by nature. Either way the cat is very fortunate. They started out as feral in a litter left behind by some very very terrible people who I evicted from my rental property along with 2 dogs, a rabbit and an African tortoise. It took quite a bit of work to gain their trust and now they are totally bonded to me with zero use for anyone else. I'm of social security age and they're 3 years old. This terrifies me.

Some are better at ajusting to only indoor life but it's not natural to them and if they lack diverse play routines inside, they get frustrated, thus grumpy. 🤷‍♀️

I adopted an 11 year old cat in March. All the way home in the carrier in the car he made a noise like growling. It was difficult to tell though because I thought it might be a form of purring only with his mouth open. After three and a half months, he does it less so maybe it was growling. He has only recently allowed me to pet some parts of his body other than his ears and head. He lets me know that he doesn’t want to be petted but that knowledge sometimes comes with claws extended and a strong effort to bite. There is nothing gentle about that bite either ... half my hand at times and the claws are regularly sharpened so they draw blood too. He is slowly learning what the expression No Claws means and is adapting. Because he is so darned smart and sassy and well-behaved overall, I love him to bits. As I am learning about tuxedo cats, I’m finding that most of his behaviours are very normal for a piebald cat. At age 76 this is my first time having a feline roommate so I have a lot to learn.

    • @drunkenarmadillo3827
      @drunkenarmadillo3827 Před 3 lety +10

I find the best way to win them over is through playing. None of my cats have ever been able to resist chasing an old rope, a few of them use a ping pong ball as a football. He probably was growling on the way home but that sounds perfectly normal. My rescue cats always disappear behind the couch for the first week, I leave them food but eventually they are lured out by..the rope..!
Younger cats adjust more easily, your cat is an adult, and it probably sucked to have someone make decisions about your life and where you get transported to. I'd probably growl too 😊 Good luck with your new cat adventure

Don't ever let anyone tell you cats cannot be trained. They can. If you keep saying No Claws, and then turning away and not playing with the cat, he will know exactly what it means. I have trained a cat to sit for a treat, to jump up when I smack the seat or table, and a few other things. I hope you and your cat have a long lovely life together. Takes them a bit before they're ok with being petted everywhere and just in case you don't know this, they turn to show you their underside but this isn't a universal invite to a belly rub.

But we still had kids and grandkids dumping off their recently deceased parent's or grandparent's pets at nearby kill-shelters because they didn't want to pay the fee. They couldn't even be bothered to call and ask. Because our animals are micro-chipped the kill-shelters would scan them, find out that they had come from us and call us. We would go and collect them and call the owners in case the cat/dog had actually been lost. have you visited a shelter recently and saw this? I usually see one or two seniors in a sea of adult cats and a handful of kittens. The seniors stay there a long time yes, but I'm not sure your comment is accurate. I have a friend who literally went to shelters and adopted like five of their oldest longest lasting residents.

For me the biggest issue would be cost of medications, plus cats can be extremely difficult to medicate. Pill Pockets saved us, and I adored my senior cat, he was such a mellow sweet boy. I mean not everyone is well endowed with a fat bank account is all.

@@tdbhmusic yeah, I looked at several rescues and shelters in my metro area. Is your comment based on ANY actual research??

@@tdbhmusic and you think a shelter is going to spend hundreds of $$ on a senior dog or cat?

This is 4 minutes of purrrfection 😾🥰 Made my day 💝 I lost my 23 year old kitty baby over a year ago. She was my everything. I have terminal cancer (no need to feel sad, nothing is set in stone as far as I'm concerned and I have AMAZINGING support). The hardest part was feeling I could never have another fur companion, worrying it would be left homeless and grieving if I passed. I got the idea of adopting senior pets who unfairly found themselves alone. I recently adopted 2 puppy-yupples 10 and 12 years old. They act like they won the lottery but their joy makes me feel like I did, they are pure love, mischief and laughter. I still miss my baby every day, but it sure is wonderful to be able to have them in my life. They have a home should I go before them. But it has made me think about setting up something in my state for the elderly or people in my situation, where we give loving homes to pets who lose their owner knowing that if we pass first our fur babies will have loving homes to go to themselves. Worrying about the safety and welfare of our loved ones and in particular our pets who can only rely on the goodness of others is easily the most stressful and heartbreaking worry of having a terminal illness or I suspect getting old. 💙

She seems like the kind of person who waves to both dogs and children when she sees them in the street, and I find that so sweet. She is literally a Disney princess.

If she hadn’t adopted Mack, her grumpy cat nature would have ended in her euthanasia as she would have been considered not suitable to adopt at a shelter. So happy Mack got to stay with family who saw the spark in her and knew all cats deserve to be loved.
