Another question I got a million times:
HOW COLD NORWAY IS WINTER TIME?
What are the RIGHT CLOTHES TO WEAR IN NORWAY if you are planning to visit in winter?
In this video I’ll reveal my proper Arctic winter outfit .. having that even -30 degrees outside will not keep you indoors.
🥾Let’s start with your shoes for winter in Norway! I personally find it the most important thing of all - to keep my feet form.
❌ Timberland shoes - keep them for London or any other European city with +15 - 10 winter time. In Norway, especially outside Oslo they are not going to work.
1 - they are extremely slippery
2 - they are cold, they are not made for Norwegian winter so you won’t feel comfortable wearing them here outdoors winter time.
What’s the best way - proper hiking shoes!
You can use them the way they supposed to be used - when you go hiking here. But you can also use them easily for city walks. Even to go to the restaurant or to cocktails bar in Oslo if you like - people here don’t care what sort of shoes and clothes you are wearing as long as you feel comfortable.
🧦 Having decent pair of those hiking shoes, you won’t be needing several layers of socks - your snowboarding socks or a pair of wool socks will do the job perfectly.
🧤 If you are planning to go to Tromsø winter time and spend a night on the beach chasing the Northern Light - get those guys with you!
They are feet and hands warmers.
You can buy them locally - visit any Clas Olsen in any shopping center around Norway and get a pack of 6 for about $10.
👖Make sure that your trousers and jacket are waterproof. If you already have your skiing or snowboarding gear - just go for it! It’s absolutely normal, lots of people do the same here.
Same principle as always in Norway- practicality comes first. Make sure you are warm, comfortable and you can seat on the snow ☺️
🎩 Hat and neck warmer - extremely important again! Sometimes even summer time. Don’t believe me - go to Lofoten in June and check this yourself.
✔️ Hat - depends on your preferences.
It can be really warm to protect your ears. Which I do recommend as the wind can be really strong and sometimes painful for your face and head.
❗️Get a neck warmer:
1 when it’s really crazy wind you can put this guys all around your face keeping only your eyes open
2 - when you come to the public place - hotel, restaurant, pub - you can just roll it down and you’ll never forget it
🥽 Make sure you have your snowboarding or skiing goggles with you.
And not just for those activities, sometimes when it’s blizzard outside you just need to have:
Neck warmer or balaclava
Your hat
And above this little structure you can put your goggle - fantastico! You are good to go for a walk and enjoy your outdoor life no matter what current weather conditions are.
🩲Last but not least - base layer.
And never forget as one of the most popular sayings in Norway goes - there’s no such thing as a bad weather only bad clothing. Which is so true in fact!

⁉️🙋🏼♀️ HAVE YOU BEEN TO NORWAY 🇳🇴 WINTER TIME? What was your favourite winter activity?
What’s your favourite place to visit in Norway? 😉
Thank you! Stay safe ❤️
I intend to go to Norway next travel, Ålesund, Tromsø, to see Northern lights. Norway is all beautiful.
@Anna Goldman thank you in MN I usually be able to outside with no gloves on in winter but thanks for that can't wait to go soon I wish I could meet you one day too for showing how awesome Norway is ❤️❤️❤️🇳🇴🇳🇴😩❤️❤️
I was in 2019 for 4 days in Tromsö. I chase northern lights, eat good Norwegian meals, talk with people. Dog sliding was to much cold in Camp Tamok. Anna i want to meet you 🙌🏻🫶🏻😜
I can not express how much a good pair of boots, socks and hand warmers are in below freezing temperatures.
Shoes!! Right boots are the key 😁 especially winter time .. especially when it’s -30 ☺️
this makes me feel cold watching this.....burrrr......thanks for sharing.
Hi Anna, No I haven't been to Norway in winter and I'll be sure to follow your tips. I may even get slip on spikes as well. I was in Japan a while back and staying upright on the ice was a real challenge. My boots weren't the best - broad chunky tread, better suited for mud - so I'll get better boots with finer tread and have the spikes as a backup. Thanks Anna.
Thank you so much for the helpful video, Anna! I’ll be finally making the winter trip to the land of my ancestors this coming Winter - beyond excited to see the fjords, northern lights, and old Viking sites.
🤩🤩🤩 that’s amazing! Congratulations 👏🏻👏🏻 I’m sure you will love that trip! When are you planning to come? 🙂
JIMIN OMG 😮 czcams.com/video/b8v8HPyFzfE/video.html
I live in the middle of Norway, Oppdal more specific. Well, got proper snowy winter her, and my job is turism and to try to remove it all winter long from roads, driveways etc, and a lot of snow this year. But to get a break after the national winter holidays, I tomorrow will take a week personal vacation..to Svalbard 😅 Can`t help it, we Norwegians love winter. Looking forward to the amasing geographical landscape , study history, maybe visit the permafrost global seed vault, long hikings and snowmobile trips. And hopefully see a polar bear(on a safe distance)🤞✌
hello Anna, every single day i came here to watch one of your video to help improve my english. This way i can learn more about the country that i will living in and also train my english.
'''i have plans to live on Norway, but not this year."
Great video.Thanks
Thanks!
Rock on! Thanks for the adventure and advice.
Pleasure 🤗🤗 happy to help ❤️
I can't wait to get back to Norway. Such a beautiful mountainous landscape with gorgeous hiking.
Thank you Ana . Very nice tips ! Vídeo well done!
Wow amazing 😍🤩
Amazing!!!! Just on time!!! Going to Norway in few days :)
Omg you are so goood. I was so anxious on what to pack. Now so looking forward to. Thank you
Thanks Anna, this was an amazing video. I am planning a trip to Norway (Bergen and Lofoten islands) with my 6 y old in Feb . I have hiked in Scotland during winters but I am sure hiking in Norway will be whole different level so I need to ensure that I don’t come unprepared and you got me all sorted.
Information with expression was really awesome. Totally enjoyed it and got the info.
Hi Anna
Thanks for great tips. Plan to go to Norway wintertime for x country skiing and Northern lights hopefully👍😀🙏
Great great
Thank you very much ❤️🙏
I will go soon in Oslo to start living .Thanks for the videos they are very helpfull to me
Very good information for Travelling!!! Thank You!!!
You are very welcome ☺️🤗 I’m glad you enjoyed this one ❤️
I live in the forest outskirts of Oslo. A couple of years ago we went to a Smashing pumpkins concert in Oslo Spektrum. The guitarist James Iha opened the show with saying "Hello Oslo, Norway. The land of practical footwear" 😆 everybody in the arena totally got the joke emidiatly😊
this is really helpful thanks! I'm going to norway next week and was going to take my moon boots, but I have hiking boots exactly like yours and will take those instead!
Tromsø I like . now I was in Norway . Freezing outside and I keep myself warm in my apartment.
Anna, I lived my whole life in Norway and it’s true what you said. You are also beautiful and I love your energy. Continue with the good work👍
Omg I really love your videos 😘🤩
Aww thank you so much Regina ☺️🤗 I’m so happy you enjoyed this one too 🤗
Really well made video! Made a couple of these as well, since really the most asked questions is “what do I wear in winter in Tromsø” 😂 and then still you see tourists around in sneaker and jeans, that cannot even stay outside 5 seconds cause they are too cold 😂
OMG, this is so so helpful, thank you!! I'm Spanish and I'm going to Estonia for a year... I was totally lost about which clothes I should buy since weather is compleeetely different!! But I think I might use all your tips :)
Sailed the North Sea Edinburgh To Stavanger !
Jatte bra video Anna! I have a nice halsduk “scarf” that matches one of my winter jackets but, I do not wear it for the exact reasons you mentioned. However, I like keeping my scarf around regardless. But instead, I use neck warmers as well.
Thank you very much 🤗 I’m so happy you enjoyed this one 😉
Yes! Same 😁 Norway taught me this little trick 😉 neck warmer is the best for winter
@@AnnaGoldmanTravel Oh, I enjoy all the videos!
Not kidding but I live almost as north you can come at the main land.... I wear sneakers even wintertime... and jeans. Also a tshirt cotton and a fleecejacket. Do have a neckwarmer knitted one... we call these Hals the norwegian word for neck. But when it blow and snow comes horizontally... I roll up the neckwarmer and tuck the knitted headthingie and place my snowglasses on... then you are pretty protected.
And the youth here too often not wear enough... like tiny shoes with these ancklesocks... that hardly cover anything.
@@arcticblue248 here maybe 😉 but for Italians, French and Spanish tourists who are just coming to Norway for a week to see the northern lights .. well.. they might need some more clothes 😁
@@AnnaGoldmanTravel That is true, and its ofcourse difference between being in the towns and out hiking.... or when the youths are out snowmobiling then ofcourse you dress up for the weather that might come, and ofcourse have the gear for survival if something happens, weather change fast up here, many don't know that.
Norway is the most place I dreamed to stay on...just speechless 😭
I am from Croatia but I need this reccomendations, it’s so cold here too😢❤
Sensible ideas for our warm-weather friends.......
Exactly 😁 that was the case 😉
Sunglasses or googles in the Arctic Circle are a must even during the shorter days, sun may be low in the sky but still intense on the eyes.
Kirkenes in December during the Polar Night and possibilities of the Northern Lights, sounds like a winning combination.
Everyone should see the Northern Lights at least once in their lifetime, but when you see it once, you will want to see them again and again and again.
last fall we was spontanously moving to finland. we bought a small "Mökki" which was really cheap on the countryside of east finland. First winter we experienced there -40 °C ^^ I LOVED it. But in order to take the dogs out I had to run with them most of the time to get them warm. But they didn't need dog shoes that way :D
that was a great video. you'd give someone an heart attack if you walked into the bank with that Ballaclarver on. but it looks warm. I have a snood and I love it. I hope your keeping well have a great week
Actually... atleast outside bigger cities there are no banks any longer. Most transactions are done by card or electronic payment like Vipps. Most places dont have minibanks either or ATMs... so no worries with propper winter clothing 😀
@@arcticblue248 I'm thinking Like the Brit I am lol.
@@arcticblue248 😂😂😂 exactly! In Austria before entering petrol stations you have to remove it though 😉
😂😂😂 thank you Bobbie!
I would keep this outfit for hiking in the forest 😉
Great information! ❤ We are heading to far North of Norway in February from 30+ celcius weather in Australia - the balaclava and goggles for dog sledding - great advice! Will pack them . The other thing I've read is to take spikes as we are not accustomed to walking on icy snow and my stepmum gave me reheatable hand warmers from switzerland that you can put in the microwave, hopefully they work ok?! ps love your half British/ half European Accent 😊
Peace & love 🇳🇴🇳🇴
Great video. I am coming from Dubrovnik to Norway and i am afraid of winter
Need guidance to dog sledding, Northern lights and ice hotel. Planning to visit next week.
Yes I went to Tromso in January wearing 'snow boots' I bought in Australia where it rarely gets into negative number temperatures and the only bit of me that was cold were my feet. Everywhere else was warm but every night when I took my boots off I expected to see black dead toes. I don't know why I still have them. It was painful.
Thank you! Where did you get your trousers from? :)
What hiking boots would you recommend 😫 i am having such a hard time deciding
Hi Anna. We’re traveling to Norway in December, starting with Oslo. Is there an outdoor clothing store you would recommend?
Hello Anna, what is the end of February like in Norway? This is when I’m scheduled to come and I need to know what to pack. Also, I wouldn’t want to pack so many things since I’m staying for long. Please guide me
Ania jaka ty śliczna jesteś :) ❤ no. 1 😊
Some jacket caters for temp -15deg celcius.. do we need this type? Can just wear those that is 0 degree type with few layers inside?
What about if you come form Africa to norway we dont have snow cloths what should i doo?
Winter in norway is like sleeping in freezer
😂😂 in a way 😉🤗
Sounds silly, but what about bed linens?
Thanks again for practical and realistic guide for norwegian winters. As you say, shoes are extremely important, and your advice is good and practical. But make sure the shoes are not too tight around your feet. There must be enough room for the insulation to be effectve. Also I would tip people about sweating in the cold. You may remember I warned you about sweating before? If you are never far away from a house you can get into, then you can ignore this advice, but if you need to be out for a longer time, then don't start sweating, especially not on your feet. As soon as you calm down your activity the sweat will evoporate and cool you down drastically. Maybe I am too concerned about this, so ask other norwegians if they think similar to me. I had experiences as a child about this that make me emphasize it so much as a grown up.
🤩🤩🤩 thank you very much indeed! Great advice! Definitely very important when you go hiking for a long time in winter.
Layers will definitely help prevent you from sweating
Hi Anna, kn the video survival guide you just wear tshirt your hat and a jacket?
Hi Anna ! I am travelling the 6th January for my birthday and I am real scared because it will be my first time in a climate like that also I am not good with GPS 😜😎 and I need to find the place where I am staying over 5 nights 😂 ! I hope people can help me politly just in case if I need a guide 😂😂😂😂
0:18 Ahhh! What's that!?
She got da crazy eyes..she got da cray cray.
What brand of gloves were they?
Hi did you ever find out what brand of gloves they were, winter is coming and I'm looking for some warm gloves. :)
Where is the Love button and not just the Thumbs Up.
to me that's not a hat 7:30 it's a beanie xD but oh well, a hat normally is basically like a cap but is much taller xD lol but I get it British english vs US english I understand
Every year I survive.
Ну вот, норвежские ролики закончились( С удовольствием все посмотрел, надеюсь мой инглиш стал лучше) Кажется настало время бизнес-канала
Ok det er ikke regner
Hiking boots for minus 29°C ????? And sledding??! that's a big no no except if you take one or two size bigger than your usual size and wear at least two sick pairs of wool socks. Be aware that hiking shoes are not insulated, especially at the toe box.
