Good video. However, it doesn't mention anything about scheduling/automation. Does FreeFileSync allow you to run syncs automatically? For example, can it be configured to run a sync job every Monday @ 6pm or whenever a directory changes, etc.?
EDIT: Never mind. I just checked the training videos on their site and apparently you can automate things, but some of that automation isn't built into the program - you have to use Windows Task Manager. From their tutorials, I guess the RealTimeSync module can be used to eliminate the need to use Windows Task Manager, to some degree. Still, it would be great to see all this functionality built into the program in a future version - hopefully, soon.
Can one direct the app to check subfolders on the right? The app seems to only check the root of the folder on the right, when the file could be in a subfolder. In my use-case, this is what is needed.
I love it. It seems to have copied a file inside the HD I use for backups.... So I have like two copies basically of the same content. One of everything and one inside a folder of everything somehow. I got to figure out how to update it to remove the duplicate files.
Well that's one way to make sure you have multiple backups 😂 There must be another routine but check if you have it on 2 way sync that you dont have the duplicate on the original as well now 👍
Is it similar to synchthing? Can syncronize specific folders on different computers?

I used FFS some years ago but have recently come back to it. However I cannot get the app to close the Settings window and return to the configuration window. It seems this may be an issue with the app from what I've read on the net. Anyone experienced this and found a way round?

Does it app have memory limitations? I tried a different app couple months back. I need to transfer my 4tb drive to a new one. At one point the app froze and also windows. I could not do anything. Did a hard reboot and this caused me to loose 100gb of data :(
On osx i always used carbon copy for this type of syncing. But i got a windows laptop for 2 years now. Haven't touched that new driver be since
Thats a shame that you lost data, not sure how you managed that as it's only syncing and not moving data so the original is only ever read only. Never heard of a memory limit problem on mac so not sure but I have synced several TB of data without issue.

Question. My application does not look like this, with all of these options and deep functionality. Is that because it's the free version? Mine is a tiny box with just a browse button for a source folder.

@@TerryLivesey I actually got it. I didn't realize they put another icon on the desktop, I was clicking on Real Time Sync, not the main app.

I used it on a 2tb drive and it handled fine with about 1.5tb data.

I get errors when i add cloud drive to sync, so this tool will not work if you want to sync to cloud drive or network, compare with this aomei backupper is more useful
That's strange, I backup my iCloud folders to a NAS using this software without any problems - I do this as I still don't trust the cloud for everything and like to make sure I have a copy locally. What error are you getting? maybe as their support about it; they are pretty quick to reply.
Why are you lying and how much does Aomei pay you to spam these veiled advertisement comments on this and other similar videos? I use FreeFileSync to backup my stuff to Google Drive on the cloud no problem.
@@TerryLivesey Those are paid shill bots that Aomei use to advertise their products. You can find them on a lot of videos about FreeFileSync and other backup programs. They are pathetic. One of the reasons I will never ever use an Aomei product. The way they promote their products and lie about their competitors is disgraceful.
Actually what is it comparing?? The lastest edit date??
I think by default it compares on file size and date modified but you can select file content or a few other options. You need to see which works best for you or which you are more comfortable using.
Major downside, it does not copy creation date... :( Do you know of an app on Windows which does but also have the compare features?

What I want to say is that this software is very general, mainly because it is not very smart. It is not as good as a software which is called aomei backupper I have used before.

@@bgtubber I'm interested in the reasons as well. I've found freefilesync to be absolutely fantastic for backing up my files to 2 external drives using its automated monitoring function.
However, I do frequently notice comments recommending this aomei alternative whenever there's a review or discussion of freefilesync or another sync app in the sites that I've come across.
@@porkbelly872 You are right. Looks like this is one of those paid Aomei shill bots. They do veiled advertisements for Aomei and often lie about the functionality of their competitors. I've seen them on other videos as well. Really pathetic behavior. One of the reasons I will never use any Aomei product and will never recommend it to anyone.
Be very careful with this software. If you accidently switch the folders and press "synchronize", it will delete data to make the folders equal.

Hi, Thanks for great tutorial videos. I would like to remove some addresses to maps from the list on both sides, left and right. This is because I have the same map names twice or even three times. I do not find how to do it. A total reset would be the best alternative maybe. In that case how do I reset the whole thing?
