  • The Insta 360 Go 2 is the latest action camera but it’s just a little bit more than normal.
I had a few problems working out how to transfer files on the mac and thought you might be having the same problem. Also a few little tips as well.
If you have any questions then just post a comment below.

Okay, so a lot of questions I get is what do I use for transferring on a mac book pro with USB-C. I used the supplied cable with this adapter from Amazon amzn.to/3o6OhQK. This lets it operate in USB mode and lets me transfer files.

I find it to be absurd that you have to use a specific cable and even an extra hub with the Go2. I love the convenience and unobtrusiveness of the Go2, but this USB transfer thing is silly. The Insta360 supplied with it doesn't even work with my Macs. I found ONE cable, from my Rode Wireless Go, USB A to C that actually is the only one I've found that works (if going through a hub). If Insta360 is watching this... please figure it out! And thanks Terry for taking the time to make this helpful video.

I don’t know if it’s been mentioned or if you’ve discovered this since making your vid but. USB C leads come in two flavours. A charging one and a charging and data transfer version.
Re file naming or recoded time and date preservation when sending files to an iPhone. Has anybody sussed out if and how it can be done. It’s really annoying finding all the clips randomly sequenced. Drives me mad.

    • @TerryLivesey
      @TerryLivesey  Před 3 lety

Not really or nearly as easily. You can import the footage and use the z axis to see the view in a normal aspect rather than the world but it's not easy to edit like the app and you don't get the stabilisation (although I think there is a 360 plugin for that but I've not tried it) . And at least whilst 360 is exporting you can go make a cuppa instead of slaving over the machine.

So I have found that the small USB to USB-C dongle I ordered from amazon did not work to transfer data to a USB-C port on a macbook Air. The camera enters USB mode, but the camera does not appear in the finder window. I spoke to the IT dept at my work and they tried it on an old macbook with a USB port and it worked straight away, same with a PC. They then tried it through a USB-C multi hub and it did work. So it seems there are some issues with the small adapters not having the capacity to transfer data. My question is, did you find an alternative cable that is USB-C to USB-C that works?

@@TerryLivesey I bought a 10cm USB-C to USB-C cable from Ebay and it works for me - but only on my older Intel MacBook Pro. On my new M1 MacBook Air NO cables work at all, not even those working on Intel mac. Neither the 3rd party USB-C to USB-C or the original Insta360 cable with USB-C adapter.
I sent the problem to Insta360 Support last week, but no reply from them ever since.

Wow, I’m impressed you managed to find a cable that works. I wonder what was different in the cable 🤔. If you have a link to it I’ll take a look and see what they have done different. They must have done something different with their USB-C port for it not to work on the M1, why oh why.

@@TerryLivesey I just tested again, still works to download Insta360go2 footage - only on Intel Mac. M1 mac does not recognise it - just like the original one. (Support told the original cable should work with a hub with compatible ports - I don't have one, only adapters that work with it on Intel but not on M1.)

Thanks for sharing the cable, I've ordered one to see what is the difference with this cable - I thought it was the word 'sync' in the description and ordered one off amazon (which was also short) and this didn't work :( hmmm we'll have to wait a few weeks.

Do you find the transfer slow? it took over 15 mins to download when full!

Can’t say I’ve let it get full to try that, but if its old style USB then that might be the case. I’ll probably fill it up this weekend and try on my mac and see what I get.

I did double check and yep, it was taking 15-20 mins to copy a full 32gb. Still gives you time to get a cuppa ☕️ 😳🤦‍♂️

Same for me. It was 35mb/s. That's slow. I thought the the 85mb/s on the Insta360 One R was already bad. Woops.

Glad it worked for you 👍 to get off your phone you need to save to camera roll and then airdrop it over. The phone editing is really designed just to be published to social media. Hope that helps 😀
