      I do the same thing. Download my songs, fix up the metadata, put it in my organized folder system and then make a playlist (all on my laptop). It syncs to my NAS, and in turn syncs to my phone. I have found this only works with Android because iPhone has everything siloed.

    As a none gamer, I am very happy to hear you let people know about syncthing, a great tool! I have a main PC on my desk at the office at home, I sync that device to my Laptops, so that when I am meeting with a client or out and about, any changes I make in my files are automatically backed up to my PC at home. Instant backup. Then on my home PC, I run BackinTime to incrementally backup to another drive. BackinTime is Mac OS Time Machine, only better. I have also just started setting up a clients small business PC's, about 10 o f them, to sync to a local server, using syncthing because windows back sucks hind t_t! Love this tool!

    I freaking love Syncthing-works great between Linux and Windows computers (and I think MacOS, too). The Android app is pretty great too. I'd encourage folks to read the docs, as there are plenty more configuration options (like making folder send-and-receive, send-only, or receive-only, setting ignore patterns, etc.) that can be set on a per-folder basis.

    Syncthing is great for bidirectional syncing multiple files across network.
    but it doesn't sync 2 local files. what tool am I able to use for that. (looked into rsync, but that's unidirectional - copies one way from a main folder to other folder, not both ways)

  • @Soupie62

    As a single user, I use Allways Sync. I use it to back up PC files to a removable HDD. It does a reasonable job.
    The biggest test is when I MOVE a file (receipts to completed archive, photos sorted by date, etc.)
    A fast sync process would MOVE the files in the sync, but most apps delete and re-copy instead.

I have a Raspberry Pi Zero 1 wireless free to use.Baikal is running on it , but I would like to have a way to let Davx5 only sync if the devices are connected to the home network and not searching randomly in a public wifi for the baikal server. The way I have my Nextcloud set up, I can sync the documents folder on my laptop back to the server at home, even when I'm outside, which means if I lose the laptop, I don't lose the data.
    It also automatically uploads the photos I take on my phone to the Nextcloud server.

    As always, great info. I've seen rainmeter before but never installed it. So here is my dum question. How should we evaluate if something is safe to install (not from a bugs/compatibility perspective but from malicious code perspective. Installers are often not scripts and we can't see what it's doing... how to we decide this is likely ok? What can I add to my list. I check to see how long the software has been out in the wild... but sometimes a project can have a fork of a similar name... then I look for people I trust like like CTT to share link to project and trust they did more due diligence than I could. and finally I search for app name and "warning" to see if anything comes up. I'm sure there is more I could be doing but not sure what that is.

I thought since we were gonna use syncthing, I'd be installing and using something called syncthing, not getting syncthing, but somehow opening and interacting with something of a completely different name. I see this all the time, syncthing is not supposed to be used with a central server, what you are supposed to do, is connect every client to each other, for example, if I had two windows, PCs and one Linux, PC on the Linux PC I need to add both Windows pcs to a folder and then on each Windows PC I need to add the Linux PC and the Windows PC to a folder, this way you get peer to peer syncing and you don’t need a Central server like a Nas

    • @Nicfallenangel
      @Nicfallenangel Před rokem

      Exactly, however doing this with a central server is an good extra step. I have my server set up as an introducer, so all of my clients talk to each other directly still, but they also keep copies on my NAS. Then if I reload a machine, the server is the first sync I set up and it introduces my new machine to the other clients sharing the same folder. You still have to log into the other clients and set up the relationship, but this saves the scan the code, or copy it across machines step, each client just needs approved and allowed to sync the folder. Plus the server always has an up to date copy if my other clients are offline for any reason.

      Yeah I'm like a foot away from the lens, Trying to find a good alternative to have a bit more room where I record. I'll keep playing around with it until I find something a bit better.

    If anyone is on KDE, you should use syncthing tray. Its like synctrayzor but on Linux. imo, its much better than syncthing-gtk.
