I have the 11 inch as a student and I love it for doing quick things, or especially taking notes. However, I have a desktop that I use for longer sessions or bigger projects as I feel iPadOS and the screen size hinder that long form process. I’d say that if you want a companion for your main computer, then an 11 inch is perfect, but if you want it to be your main driver you might want the bigger option.

From a professional photo editors perspective the 11 inch model serves the need and there is no such differences in viewing. Even the professional digital artists who draw a lot prefer using 11 inch, just to avoid the blooming screen while working on my-noot details. This is what I wanted, I actually want something which is actually useful to me. Instead of buying something which i actually don't need and not useful for everyday practical usage. I've purchased an iPad pro 12.9 M1 2021 just a few days ago. Tbh not happy with the hype around it. esp the mini LEDs causes blooming issues and putting a paperlike kinda screen protector creates noise on the screen so its cool when u are drawing but when watching the HDR screen really isn't there because of it. I'm opting for the 11" iPad pro without the mini led. it's lighter and less bulky. I feel like I've just blown my cash on something which I won't be using to its max potential. So please consider carefully when buying. The apple genius who was new on his job didn't really give me good advise and got me into buying a 512GB which after looking at many reviews is not needed for a beginner artist like me. so its a return! My question stems from an photo editor's point of view: May one *benefit* from Apple's Mini-LED display for the M1 iPad Pro 12.9' during post-processing (in Photoshop Lightroom)? Or will one only get to witness the "glory" brightness of 1000 nits and beyond *only* when *viewing* HDR content? I've been told that Apple's new XDR projects at around 500/ 600 nits during normal usage. Do you notice any micro-contrast detail improvements when editing on the 12.9' mini-LED vs the normal 11'? Please advise, and thank you in advance.

Great. Thanks for all your information on the new IPAD Pros.
I am looking at getting an IPAD Pro for doing things with the GoPro and Insta360 cameras. Finding out my Android 4G phone just won't install the Insta360 apps (not compatible), but the IPAD Pros will work with both cameras (checked this out at a Best Buy store).
If I am going to get an IPAD Pro, I figure I might as well go with the 12.9 inch version. My IPAD Pro will not be for lugging around daily, and would probably get the Keyboard and Pen for it.
I have stayed away from Apple products for quite a while now, but I do not want to get another phone service, so the IPAD Pro is my other best option, which above is my camera operating issues.
Plus I have no Apple IPAD's at this time, so might as well go with the larger one. Plus being older, for my eyes the bigger the display the better.
I do have a PC laptop I use daily and typing this comment right now. But it also does not work with the Insta360 apps, from what I was told from other you tube videos.

Excellent video and practicality advice. I just bought the 12.9 with 2TB of space because like you I do photography and editing. However I had the 10.5 pro before and decided to up the size. But now that I buy the 12.9 boy it’s a beast. It’s HUGE and HEAVY! I’ll admit it is a beautiful tool to work with, but my biggest issue is the shear weight. Due to this fact I’m very much considering returning it to the smaller 11 inch but with the same 16Gb ram and 2TB of storage.
Now on CZcams doesn’t realistically give me true image comparison so from your perspective which one gives you a 100% better viewing experience? Please let me know. Cheers!

I’m watching this on the iPad Pro M1 11 inch, and the speakers are great, and I can only imagine how amazing the 12.9 inch would be. I’m still considering getting it, only because of the speakers and higher brightness. I saw them both on display and the size isn’t drastic, I even confused the 12.9 inch as the 11 inch. The one and only reason I got the 11inch was because I got it for a sweet deal for $500 only. Couldn’t pass on that. If I get the 12.9 at a sweet deal I would definitely get that. Still looking around. My recommendation for anyone, is go for the 12.9 inch, you’re already going big, so go big, or go mini. The 11 isn’t a mini, it’s big and not big enough.
I notice those who like the mini or 11 inch aren’t tablet enthusiast, they use it casually and don’t want it to take as much space, so if that’s who you are then fine go for the mini or 11 inch, but if you’re a tablet enthusiast, the 12.9 is the one.

Totally agree, big or mini. I only used to take the iPad with me when I had the mini 3. Then I bought the Pro 10.5 instead of the 12.9 (even though I sooo wanted the big one) reasoning that it would be too big to carry, that the 10.5 was a smarter purchase, portability, less expensive, etc. However, I still found it too big to bother to take with me if not necessary (as with my 1st. iPad, the iPad 3) and always regretted not buying the 12.9 . So three days ago I treated myself with the 12.9 2021 which I found at a reasonably good deal.

Thank you so much for your comparison Jerad. It's a shame that Apple has ONLY reserved their XDR displays for the 12.9" iPad Pro 2021 models and not for the 11" models too. That being said though, you are spot on. If you're looking for an iPad to be a quote unquote 'laptop replacement' yeah then okay get the 12.9", and yeah also maybe for the RAM upgrade. But other than that, if you're looking for this iPad Pro to be, well an iPad Pro and be portable as Jerad said, get the 11". Because realistically, how many of us are going to watch HDR content on this, with the XDR display on the bigger model? Not very many. Plus you're not missing out on much from my understanding by going with the 11" model anyway.

Nice review!. I have tried both and kept the 11 one. If you don’t have a laptop then get a laptop for the same price as the big one. The 12,9 won’t replace a laptop, Apple doesn’t want that and will never do. If you want to watch movies use your TV instead of a 12.9 display. The reality of tables is that we use them mostly for browsing the web, playing games, etc, but most importantly, because they are really portable. Problem with the 12.9 is that is not as portable, weights way more and if you don’t get the keyboard, you’ll feel its to big for your eyes for watching stuff or gaming at your regular arms distance. Plus the price.
Only and only reason I would get the big one is if you draw a lot at a pro level and need a bigger canvas. Otherwise the 11 is the one.

I had 11’ IPad Pro 2018 then I upgraded to same size 11’ IPad Pro 2020. I always I felt regret for not buying the larger size 12.9’. Finally I got the 12.9”. The 11’’ portability is only reasonable excuse for ladies who are planning holding their iPad in their purse. If you have a plan to carry the IPad either by hand or in backpack, it wouldn’t matter which IPad you chose. People who already have the 11’ can compare the size difference with printer paper (A4). I enjoy taking notes on the bigger Ipad that has regular paper sides. Since I already graduated from college, I have no need of using note taking apps such as notability or GoodNotes. Currently I am using my IPad Pro for entertaining. For my needs my old iPad mini 4 will do the jobs. Thus, I will sale my iPad Pro 12.9 and save the money for something else.
