- This video came across my feed the other day and I had to check it out and react to it! I always enjoy sharing my opinions about this great band with all of you guys, and I love hearing your opinions as well! I was pumped to see #41 and Don't Drink the Water on this list, didn't expect that, honestly.
This video went way longer than I had anticipated but there was a lot of good stuff in this. Hope you enjoy and give me your opinions in the comments!
The variety is more than welcomed CMac. Keep it fun and interactive. We got ya. There's some especially fun stuff like this, including the Lillywhite interviews, Deve's childhood, the session with him and Carter during Covid, etc., that are worth taking a look at.
No doubt! Adding all of that to the list!
I’ve been playing guitar for about 23-24 years. I started learning DMB songs because of the chord shapes and the riffs. They have always been more interesting to me than just strumming open cowboy chords. I stumbled upon this channel some years ago, maybe 10 or so and you’ve been a tremendous help in the learning process. Thank you! I think I even saw you in one of the DMB Facebook groups I’m in. Big fan of the work you do.
Also, I agree with you. The Lillywhite Sessions is definitely my favorite album!
Thank you so much for the support! I agree that the intricate chord shapes, arbitrary lyrics, and riffs shaped the band into what they are today for sure. Don’t think they’ll get back to that again, but who knows?!
Also I really agree with the older songs having lyrics that allow the listener to interpret. There’s SO MANY that most can can apply to their life with such different things going on. I love the old and new, direct and not so direct. It’s just a different stage of the band as they have gotten older.
Hey Carson, first, thanks for all the tutorials, they’ve reminded me of all the Dave tracks I used to play with my little brother, at shows in the parking lot, at home, at a little (now gone) club in Long Beach…. I took some years off guitar due to a massive finger injury, but those tutorials brought me back to guitar and Dave music, secondly, thanks for the turn on to Monkeys on a String, theyre amazing! Lastly, thanks for the new variations, I really appreciate all you’ve done and are doing now! Keep it up, brada!!!
Dude, thank you man! I appreciate the comments and am so glad I can help you along the way a little! I’m pumped to do this new stuff and mix it up a little, I love doing it. I’ll bring out some more Monkeys on a String stuff because they’re seriously as close to DMB as it gets in my opinion. If you have other bands or genres you’d like to see me break down in a reaction, let me know!
Well, there’s always Ben Harper, though i know a bunch of those😂, some of the simpler Phish songs(as i nowhere NEAR approach Trey’s abilities) a real stretch (AND TREAT😛)would be some Johnny Clegg, a south african artist( those rhythms are a huge part of what i love about DMB), again, thank you Carson!
Really enjoying these videos along with the tutorials. I’ve used so many of them of them to learn but it’s cool to see reactions as well!
Thanks man!! Appreciate the support more than you know! I’ll have more tutorials coming soon but also some other cool stuff to mix it up!
These are fun to watch! I’m loving this idea. I saw this interview a while back but it’s cool to hear your commentary along with it
Man, I'm glad you enjoy these because I love doing them!
@@carsonmac you provided some great facts that I wasn’t aware like with Grey Street. Can’t tell you how many times I’ve played and sang that not knowing the history behind it
I just started the video but I want to say that I appreciate your content a lot and it's fun to get your perspective on a variety of DMB content, besides the excellent lessons you've already provided. Hope these videos do well for you or at least you have fun making them!
Thank you! I have a blast making them. They don’t make me any money or anything due to copyright issues, but I just have a great time connecting with everyone and giving some kind of perspective to the band we all love
Everyday was made the way it was I think mainly due to the very tense dynamic of the band during the BTCS tour and the Lillywhite Sessions. Yes the songs would have been better if they were made the way the band normally made them, but i think it was a necessary evil to keep the band together. Perhaps a less extreme version of St. Anger for DMB
Haha, seriously a very good comparison. I think you’re 100% right on that. I also didn’t hate st anger, it was a necessity for the band no doubt. I definitely think without Everyday the band would’ve called it quits for some period of time
Never knew about the original “Satellite” and some of the other band history moments. Thanks for your knowledge!
Of course! Following these guys closely since ‘96 has given me some of the nerdiest knowledge you could imagine lol
The new stuff is great Carson keep it coming. Gotta evolve and switch it up sometimes. Love these discussion kickstarter type vids.
Thanks, Eli! I honestly love doing this new stuff. Glad you enjoy it!
Crash is still the one song after years of guitar playing that still tests the endurance of my hand, by the time the final chorus comes it’s cramp time! 16:33
Yup! I’d always prefer playing The Stone, Satellite, Trippin Billies, any song with a lot of movement over a stationary stretch like Crash
@@carsonmac I agree! The stretches are a lot easier when you’re constantly moving. - Just learned The Stone last week actually, having a lot of fun with it.
And yes, i agree, the more vague and arbitrary lyrics are more my favorites than the “newer” more direct lyrics
Vague is a good word too. It sure why they strayed away from it, I always if it had to do with less weed smoking by Dave 🤷♂️
I’ve been a big fan sine 96. It doesn’t matter how many times I hear Crash. It always hits the same, especially the way it’s mixed on the album. The clarity and the building sound just doesn’t compare to any other versions. One of the greatest songs ever written. Good review man
Man, you’re right about that. I couldn’t agree more. The mixing on that entire album is unreal. I get crap from people when I say that the Two Step album version is my favorite. I don’t care what people say, the mixing on that and 4 or 5 guitars going in the beginning is freaking amazing.
If I didnt have my Taylor & Tele 🤦♂️ But Im sure it will go to a wonderful home. Also The Dave Matthews bio "DRIVEN" is tremendous. Deep dive into Dave's upbringing, all the way up to the band in the late 90's to early 00's
Absolutely!!
Would love a Storytellers reaction vid. Love the Dave-talk.
And a Dave/Rockbridge slap vid reaction.
Haha!! I should definitely do the the slap video 😂
@@carsonmac when my wife/daughter and I met Dave, we got to talk to the security guy from that vid. Such a nice guy.
"It'not pop, it's not rock". Yes it is. Both. And MUCH more.
You going to the Gorge Labor Dave weekend? 😮
Hope so too! i’ll be there 🤘🏼
Man, I freaking wish. I’m taking my kids on a quick trip that weekend and it’s nowhere close to The Gorge. I want to make a show or two somewhere though!
@@jesselitz8873 what day are you going?
@@carsonmac have a great trip with the kids. If you ever get a chance to go to the Gorge, I highly recommend the trip.
Thanks for taking the time to reply.
@@user-dh9zt7gs9q All weekend ✌🏻
Can you please do Alligator Pie? Standard tuning?
Next on the list, actually!
Awesome!
Lillywhite's work was magic. You can tell a lot is missing without him. Everyone has their own views and that's ok, but as a fan for almost 30 years, I just don't love the last two albums much at all, but as they say, things constantly change.
Yup. Unfortunately very true.
