A lot of people don't realize how brilliant of a songwriter/guitarist he really is. His songs are incredibly complex and unique but so catchy at the same time. Should definitely be in the hall of fame.
Agreed. Most people wouldn't know it though. Look at You Never Know. That song is insanely complex.
@@JoshWeasley that song changes keys 3 times and it's completely seamless😂
Not lately they aren't. Social justice songs for kids
@@jane27world dude, you would have hated the 60s.
@@JoshWeasley hands down my favorite DMB track.
Dave mathews band is undoubtedly one of the most talented groups to ever play. Im lucky enough to see them live and to be a fan of them at my age.
Gotta include the band! Love this comment. ❤
Braithwaite?
How young are you?
This video could literally be three hours long. He's make it sound so simple and yet it's so profound to the rest of us!
He'll forever be a legend. One of the greatest artist all time.

Easily.
I most definitely Agree
Period!!! ❤
GOAT
If music were relationships, Dave Matthews Band was my first crush. They will always have a near and dear hold on my heart. I’m so glad I found them. The world is a better place with Dave and all his lovely band mates making music.

This band was the soundtrack of my high school and college years. Those early records still bring so much nostalgia for me. Tons of great memories attached to them.
Literally the exact same scenario for me. Everytime I listen to DMB, especially specific tracks, I feel like I’m back in high school.

This guy is my hero. So humble but so brilliant. Crash will forever be my fav DMB song. It’s the sweetest dirty song a person can write. Dave is a legend.

#41 and Grey Street could turn any non-fan into a fanatic, especially if you see them play those live. Those two songs are as perfect as a song can get - and both beautiful enough for an extended live jam that you could listen to for 20 minutes and wished it went on forever.
if you havent check it out yet, you GOT TO look up " DMB w/ Flecktones #41 04/20/02 "
@@davidwalker9702 this ^ best version ive heard of this song. And I’ve heard #41 live 3 times
Facts
You couldn't have said it better!!!!!! I have seen him 6 times and just again on Wednesday the 14th ❤ and he did GRAY STREET
He opened Pittsburgh with #41 and played Grey Street Friday…that made my night. Only thing that could have are it even better would have been adding Two Step.
“Crash into me” almost always brings me back to early morning VH1 watching before I hopped on the bus to go to school in junior high. It’s amazing how music can do that!!
Grey Street is simply a masterpiece in my opinion
TOTALLY AGREE!! It is MY FaVoRiTe song, EvAh. I became disabled & needed to use a cane (yuk) or walking stick. I bought a craggy stick & decided, since it was going to shows w/me that I'd put DMB stickers on it. 1st, Dancing Nancy, 2nd, cross signs Grey Street/At The End of The World. It will be with me again in Camden, last time was NYC Madison Square Garden for my birthday, Nov 2021😅. CAN'T WAIT TIL JULY!! Blessings.
Same 4 chords as Trippin' Billies!
The best one
One of my favs
Grey Street is the soundtrack to my soul.
Dave Matthews is undeniably talented. Seems like he's made a huge impact for a long time.

I have followed this band since 1994

True story- 1997 went with friends to DMB in Hartford CT, not a huge fan myself but always up for a a gig. My best friend proceeded to get hammered and she was laying flat on the ground. Worried about her, I was sitting next to her talking. All she could say was ‘did they play TOO MUCH?’ I yelled back at her, “they’ve been playing 4 hours!!!”
Didn’t know it was the name of one of their songs 😂😂😂
Great show, still longest one I’ve ever been to until this day.
"I haven't had anything yet... so how can I have some more of nothing?"
Similar story: First time I saw Dave more than 25 years ago was with my brother and his girlfriend. Dave started singing, and I said, "Oh I love this song! What's it called?" Lisa said, "It's the Song that Jane Likes."
"OK," I responded, "but what's the name of it?" A true "who's on first moment!" When my brother passed away last year, we put the lyrics to Bartender on his funeral card.
@mathmagicians2013 if you ever get a chance , listen to "Baetender" Dave matthews and Tim Reynolds. It brings me to tears. So hauntingly beautiful.

His breakdown on satellite is so confirming to what I noticed as a guitar player singer. Because I been doing it for 18 years and I still can't sing and play most of Dave's songs simultaneously. He's easily top 3 most hard to play and sing at the same time music. This is why he's so underrated As a guitarist imo
I’ve been learning to play Satellite for almost 10 years and I still can’t play it well! As he said, unnecessarily difficult but love it 😂
I'm not sure because I can play satellite among and sing it decently (among other Matthews songs) but I can't do a lot of Mayer. But maybe I'm bottled necked by my vocal range as I have to put some concerted effort with Mayer whereas Dave's range is within mine without too much effort if that makes sense?
I was surprised when asked about its roots, they didn't mention it started as "After Her" (which I personally prefer).
I grew up with a warehouse member, my wonderful mother. DMB was the soundtrack of my childhood. I have grown into this amazing music and Dave is the best. I’ve never been to a better show.
I will carry these classics with me forever.
Thank you DMB
Same story here. Mom’s been a Warehouse member since forever. Grew up nearly exclusively on all the live stuff. Can’t get enough of it now.
I raised 5 kids on Dave and very proud that they all appreciate them and enjoy their music today.
Before These Crowded Streets is the magnus opus of the band. I'll never forget the burnt CD's of Lillywhite sessions leak floating around campus, what an amazing time for music!
He’s as intelligent, humble and compassionate as he is talented. I feel so fortunate to have witnessed them play at the Blind Pig in 1994. We all felt a sort of shift in reality after listening to them play, it was surreal. I haven’t experienced a live performance like it ever since. I think Dave Matthew’s voice has a lot to do with that incredible energy.
Never has any band moved my soul more than this original band. The lyrics alone. However, the band is amazingly talented and Dave's voice and lyrics make it fantastically moving. LOVE ❤
I could never stop loving Dave, he has such a beautiful way with words.

Fantastic interview; allowing Dave to explain some hits on his terms and the feelings behind them. Well done and thank you!
Love this dude, real as they get, we are blessed to have his music and comedy in our lives. Rare combo of talent, intelligence and goofiness.
There’s no words to express how Dave’s lyrics help me in life.
They echo in my mind everyday
Crash into me will always have a special place in my heart. It still gives me goosebumps every time I listen to it.
I love the live versions when he throws in the Little Feet lyrics.
Crash was my wedding song for my wife and i
DMB got me thru some tough times in the 90's. I listened to those albums constantly. Such an amazing band
I could listen to Dave read the phone book.
He's so captivating yet effortless and insightful all at the same time.
Doesn't hurt that he's funny too.
I could have watched him talk about each and every song he has written. Such a brilliant artist. Would love to hear him speak on The Stone. Crowed Streets was their best
#41 is my favorite song of theirs. That feeling that were able to capture.
Came into the band in about 1999. Late. South Florida didn't play DMB on the radio. I moved to Long Island and BTCS/Crush changed my life. 20shows and counting!
Just appreciate how honest and relatable he is. What stuck out to me is how he talked about the song Crash is and how it's different to him being in his 50s.
What an engaging, funny, and intelligent dude Dave is. Thank you endlessly for your music and down to earth honesty
Those songs always bring me back to simpler times. Amazing.
Always enjoy his sense of humor. Also, that he's written some incredible songs!
I knew someone would comment on dave's humor, he's a funny cat
"I did it" was hilarious
"Don't Drink the Water" is definitely Dave's lyrical masterpiece.
I get goosies. Every. Single. Time.
I'm glad #41 was included. Definitely one of DMB's best. I remember being so excited that they played it on Letterman. I taped it, then recorded the audio to either cassette or miniDisc, and would listen to it all the time.
I agree, Song #41 is so so beautiful . Definitely one of the best!
My favorite DMB cut.
When him and Tim do it, I effing melt.
#41 is my favorite DMB song
No doubt.
Dude is such a genius. Their music is just so far beyond what people realize. When The World Ends is such a great song and the line “when the world is, we’ll be burning one” 😆 should have been a single.
LOVE this, Dave needs to do more deep dives into the history of the band and songs
The magic that Dave and Tim created at Radio City is what got me obsessed with his art. There’s absolutely nobody like him in music.
Same. 😊
Been a fan since '98!!!!!!!!! ❤
what a talent ❤
Had the fortune to see them live, its incredible, hard to describe, the energy is intense
me too, while i was in a halfway house in flordia lol. it was so much fun
Truly a legendary group. Their live shows are amazing saw them back in college hope to see them again
my mothers family is Six Nation Iroquois/Cayuga/Oswegatchie and the first time I heard Dont Drink The Water it moved me to tears I immediately knew what it was about on first listen. I was a huge DMB fan going to shows since '94 and it leveled me flat...still does. masterpiece.
Too bad he can't speak the truth about it here 😢
Just loved this interview, his songs are the fabric of my 20's and early 30's. He seems like just a cool dude, someone you would want to be friends with. Keep rocking Dave !
Dave Matthews music is truly timeless and will never be forgotten.
Thank you Dave Matthews Band

I grew to love Dave Matthews Band more and more as I learned about jazz.
They are a very impressive and inspiring ensemble.
Thank you, Mr. Matthews. The music that you and the band have gifted to the world, means so much to us. Ridiculous fan since under the table, forever fan for the rest of my life.

Glad hes still getting the recognition he and his band earned. Still feel like he is a slept on guitarist, dude just rips the strings.
I want Dave to know he came to me in a dream and taught me a new song about being a father, long before I would become one.

He is just so incredibly talented, I’ll never get over it
I am 32 & growing up, I would always here their songs through out my life but when I met my spouse, I really truly grew to love them! We had the blessing to seeing them 3 years in a row(full weekends)in south Florida & LOVED every minute!!! We welcomed our 1rst in November & for my birthing playlist most of the live albums were playing in the background! Our son is 6 months now & we play the live shows for him & he truly just is in awe! We watch him stare at carter play lol it’s so adorable!!!!We are beyond happy for him to grow up with Dave & the guys!!!!

I used to listen to all the live trax back in the day. DMB's catalog is unreal. Hes such a down to earth and funny guy too.
Dave cracks me up in this video... Thanks for a stroll down memory lane. I love that he mentions "When the world ends" because I love that track
The Space Between is a timeless classic. Not a week goes by where I don't absolutely need to hear it.

I agree with Dave.
Talking about mental health should not be considered ‘political’. It’s a shame there’s no real conversation about it, like there is about guns, gender, social justice, student loans, police brutality, election fraud, the Kardashians and the like.
How could Crush not make the cut? Come on...
There are so many. Incredible band.
I so appreciate this interview and Dave getting open about these songs.
I thank my dad for playing his music when I was a kid and teaching me to listen to music. Not just appreciate the sound but all of it, the lyrics and the soul an artists puts into it.
Happy to hear "when the world ends" is one of his faves as I've always enjoyed that under-the-radar track.
When the world ends is amazing!! It is definitely a under the radar song that definitely that shouldn't be under the radar
This was a great interview!!! Hearing Dave talk about his lyrics is fascinating! Loved it! ❤️

Dave your so candid and I love that about you. I think this one of his best interviews. Maybe the comfort of petting his dog put him at ease.
What a great songwriter, musician, singer Dave is. The band as a whole is amazing. The meaningful, beautiful music they've made and continue to make will resonate and live on forever ❤🎶❤️
I worked for the DMB many, many times and he is exactly like this in real life. Charming, fairly unassuming, and easy going. This was a great interview to watch!

So many great memories. I could hear this for hours, their music has been such an important part of my life. I wish he expanded on their live music and how they changed these songs through practice on the road and constant improvisation
I ❤ DMB so much. Such a part of my life.
Can't wait to see them in 2 days! Just 2 more days!
Dave has a brilliant mind. I love listening to him talk more than his hit music.
The Everyday album is fantastic
It just dawned on me that I have been a fan for twenty years! Grey Street was the song that came out the first time I fell in love, fall of '02, and it was my favorite song back then and I cannot think of another song that describes my life. Melody so happy, but lyrics so sad... I've definitely kept a smile on my face despite feeling internal chaos ever since being a teenager and falling in love that fall, with both a boy and Grey Street.
