  • Back in 2007, Gregg Godfrey claimed the world record for the longest and fastest Iron manned run in the Baja 1000 race. Iron manned meaning that he didn't ever through the 1300 mile course change riders or bikes. He ran it start to finish on one bike, solo, in less than 42 hours. We are posting this in commemoration of his achievement that still stands today as the current world record. Along with this video we are also currently giving away a tribute bike similar to the one Gregg raced at:

Good race. He beat my team of 4 by a couple hours. We had a broken arm and took 12 hours to get into him on the race course. Bike was mangled and had no head lights but we finished. 46 hours for our time! Great job!

"I know how to read the terrain, Sylvon.", Gregg Godfrey circa 1997 below Factory Butte at Swingarm City, Utah. A.K.A., Cainville. Gregg was an accomplished desert racer in his youth and it comes as no surprise to me that he did so well! Congratulations Gregg!

I raced Baja for a number of years and I tip my hat to anyone that rides the whole 1000 on a bike. I was at this race in a Class 1 car. However, the title of this video is deceiving. This is no "World Record". The course is different every year.

We raced that race... with 5 guys!! I mean, what they tried to accomplish is just insane.
All the pre-run issues and prep is typical for most. Even the most professional have those kinds of issues.
I laughed at the pre-run with no lights, it's a great way to prep for the race as you can lose your lights at some point. Just par for course and how luck plays part in so many miles. I loved the lack of knowledge for the GPS ... like your going to be able to see the screen anyway. The course is never marked well enough, and when your seeing double in the dust with campfires and Trophy Truck lights coming from behind... it's just like being on another planet. Super weird feeling. Something you just can't describe.
The "meal plan" was another that seems to always be an issue. Nothing wrong with tacos... until, your body revolts at 80+ mph. I mean... I've been there, and it's not fun. All I had on me during a pre-run were rain-x wipes. Oh boy... infused with alcohol. Sphincter and alcohol is no bueno.
Hats off to Greg for that ride. Travis too. But to finish... is just a monumental moment.
We raced Class 22, and came in 4th bike in our class. At 29:30:35 (29.5hrs). My section, only being 320 miles and I had some issues in that short of a span. Man, I'm just amazed at what they accomplished that year. Thinking Travis was on par to make the finish about the time we did if his bike hadn't of died. JUST AMAZING.
