Awesome vid, raced it in 2020 Ironman @ 51 with 4 months of prep ( not recommended ) and 5 crew people 3 that have never been to Baja . A experience of a lifetime . Got lost for over 3 hours and missed cut off by a 1:40 but by the grace of God made it to the end. Lots of things I would of done different but I wouldn’t change my race for the world. You have one lap in life!
Look at that legend at 14:49 and 15:07! 😁
Paul "Feral Dirtbiker" Hart 733x at 15:08
Scott Purcell 734x at 28:53 was racing with a pelvis broke in multiple places and didn't know it. Animal!
Wouter 741x at the launch!
ANd man, you said it. The fans are something else. They love the sport the way WE should love the sport. Our teams and the folks at home are the ones who get us to the start, but the wonderful fans in Baja are the ones who make this race possible every year, and they're the ones who make it great. To them, it doesn't matter if you're first, last, a pro or a bucket-lister--they're stoked! As a matter of fact, the fans are the reason I'm alive today.
Your much happier when you have a bike,,absolutely agree
Man Mark, you're the reason "Old Guys Rule"! 100 %
awesome video. Was amazing to be a part of it and fun to see some of my shots make the cut. Thanks Tanner. Well done!!
Also RM327 in that silt wash is very close to where I helped Dustin Vazquez 766x drag his blown-up bike out of the silt to the side of the course. I believe the racer from Alberta had his CR500 stopped right around there as well. That silt was the worst I've ever experienced and there was even more leading up to Catavina. I ended up over the bars several times and a bunch of those lame tip-overs too. There is nothing like that to train on outside Baja!
Keep on Keepin’ on 🏁⚡️🏜️
Well done, fantastic story! ✌️
Great effort to get to where you got to. Don't lose sight of what you want to accomplish and the passion you have to fulfil your dream in 2024 🏁
Great example of chasing your dreams A+
0:44 so relatable so true…fantastic line, one of the best ever.
Good Job Mark & Marty & Crew !
great movie, bad luck but that's racing - it is amazing to watch Baja from England - you guys are lucky , best of luck next time
I lived in Escondido CA right next highway 15 and every year I would watch all the teams and people drive by on their way to the border. Ocotillo is where I rode. I just recently moved to Dalton Gardens ID. I currently have a 1993 rm 125 that I plan on racing in the desert 100 in Odessa, WA. Won’t race until next year as the bike is in pieces and the motors at the shop. Was a pit crew once for some friends trophy truck and it got me hooked on wanting to desert race. One day during Covid my neighbor asked if I wanted to learn how to ride a dirt bike. Started on a Honda 110 then bought my first bike a 2001 TTR 125 that had a bbr big bore kit that made it a 150. Bought a 1983 Honda Xl600R Dual Sport and I am currently restoring it. I am a better mechanic than a rider.
Will you be at the Odessa 100 this year?
No. I won’t get my engine back until after the race. Had case damage that took time to weld backup and mill. Next year
The baja addiction is real! 🔥 love it
That Bryce Menzies description gave me goosebumps. “He was there and gone” perfect way to describe it.
I've heard the trophy trucks guys have the utmost respect for the motorcycle guys.
Too few never swing the bat. Good job being at plate.
I attempted to solo in class 60 with Sal Fish years ago. Raced all day and all night, couldn’t finish. I appreciate what you endured. Good luck in all your moto endeavors.
Mark I commend you for trying. It took me three tries and I gave all I had to do it. I had bad luck twice. It’s horrible pain and suffering that only gets worse the farther you go. Yet you want to go back. I dnf’ed twice after I finished in 2018. In 2020 I finished in 53 hours. I was over the time limit. Two weeks later I had my knee replaced and I’m still unable to train like I used to. But I’ve done Vegas to Reno solo twice and the SanFelipe 250 on a bike with my new knee. Vegas to Reno is much easier terrain for 500 miles. I had to switch to four wheels for a few years and we won our class in 2023. But I’ll be on a bike in SanFelipe to solo (I think the 50 class) in March of 2024. It’s an addiction. And deep into a race you are saying “why did I think this was a good idea? This is horrible discomfort and pain!”
Great job Tanner on the film. Great job Mark! Ride on! -Larry Janesky #714x
Means a lot that you were able to watch the film!
Thanks Larry I'm not giving up I'll get there lol
It was great meeting you and getting to talk with you..
Hope to race with you someday...
Awesome attempt!! Don't give up!!
Que bonita salgo en el minuto 12:55 😎🫰🏽 buena toma, felicidades por el gran esfuerzo y dedicación al equipo 🫂🏁
Very well put together video! Mark, you pulled off what many of us dream of! Keep it up!
Keep on with the dream!! With determination and will you'll face this next year's journey and concour it like it was meant to be at the finish line like ole JN Roberts😊
Brilliant I enjoyed this, good luck for this year, try the dakar rally next it's 2 weeks long :-) .
Thank you for producing this top quality feature 👍
Very well done. Cinematic AF. From a contemporary aged ex racer, best of luck in 2024.
I've ridden in Baja many times, and love it. Would never think of racing the 1000. Scary. Give me a big triple out of a turn, sure... but hell on 90 mph with trophy trucks flying by.
Inspiring. Thank you.
Respect ma man.
Nice effort, I wanted to do it solo in 2017, crashed and blew up my shoulder requiring surgery.
I raced it last year with a 50+ team and after my 275 miles on the bike, I have lost all interest in soloing Baja at this point in my life. 😂😂
great effort first try! so many aspects make this the toughest race in the world. terrain, mechanical abuse, logistics, support, resources, distance. its a calling for sure but with everything absolutely perfect still takes a stroke of luck. anything worth while in life usually doesnt come easy. keep at er, and keep motovating people to chase those dreams, no matter age or how irrational it may seem. Thats what i keep telling myself anyway after two tries in the TT class. We will get that baja 1000 finish! cant wait for this years!
Great film. Thoroughly enjoyed this!
Thanks man !
Awesome video man best of luck next year go get em man!!!!!
great video
Thanks!
Amazing video thanks for sharing 👍
Absolutely amazing film man 🤟🏼
Thanks bro 🔥
Tanner.. what a film you made! Amazing work.
Thank you! I appreciate it 🔥🔥
Hats off to you for trying something so challenging. Better luck next time. Why don't they send the faster trophy trucks out first? This seems like a crazy and dangerous way to run the race.
You’ll notice the only Ironman class is motos, the most difficult way to do the 1000.
Interesting doco. Well put together. I’ve raced on and off all my life as well. MX enduro, road racing and so on.
At 41 I had the same feeling that you did and did part of an enduro season here in Oz just to see if I could still finish a multi day race.
Then I did a couple of stints as mechanic for very minor teams like your effort at the Finke Desert Race.
I’d be interested to know what happened when those guys left the team. That is, how did that happen? Never dropped out or had anyone just jump ship like that.
Anyhow, great effort man. Endurance races always have a big chunk of luck involved.
The details of them leaving were left out as to not make them the focus of the story. I’ve asked myself many times why they would wait to the last minute and flake. Guess They are the only ones that can honestly answer that question. We won’t let them keep us from going back!
Keep up the good work. See you next year.
👍👍2024 Good Luck! Thanks For sharing
Racing is more than a lifestyle it's a disease and once it's in you you'll never get rid of it ! It's addiction!
EXACTLY!!!!!!
It’s the best disease!
💯
Great film!!! Hope your channel blows up
Thanks man!
I believe in you mark
Respect! Sorry you broke, but once the trucks catch you, things get dicey.
Raced a bunch in SoCal Dez back in the day. Stopped in 1996 after a big get off at Glen Helen racing MX. Nothing like running 100 mph across the desert!
Never stop riding, @ 82 I'm still on the off road gas.
Dirt Bike Gambler song
On a hot Baja signup race day
For extreme trails bound to nowhere.
I met up with an old guy rider
We were both tired of no pre-race sleep
So we took turns a-starin’
At the Works Bikes in the shade
The curiosity took us
And he began to speak.
~~
He said, “Son, I’ve made a life
Out of seeing clapped out bikes
And knowing what parts are bad
By the way it’s Duct taped on.
So if you don’t mind me sayin’
I can see your out of Duct tape
For a taste of you Gator Aid
I’ll give you some advise
~~
So I handed him my bottle
And he drank down my last swallow
Then he bummed an 8mm socket
And ask me for a ratchet too.
And the entry line got deathly quiet
And his face lost all expression
Said, “If you’re gonna race, boy
You got to race it right
~~
You got to know when to hole shot’um
Know when to clutch’um
Know when to roost away
And know when to WFO run.
You never count your points lead
When you’re Beer benchracin’
The’ll be time enough for countin’
When the Trophy’s dealins’ done
~~
Every Pro rider knows
That the secret to surviving
Is knowin’ what shit to throw away
And knowin’ what shit to keep.
Cause a heavy right hands a winner,
And very numb hands are losers,
And the best hands you can hope for
Is no arm pump for a grip you can keep.
~~
And when he finished speakin’
He turned towards the signup sheet
Crushed down my Gator Aid bottle
And somewhere in his bench race story,
The old guy rider he broke even
And in his final words
I found bullshit that I could keep
~~
You got to know when to gass’em
Know when to power wheelie’um
Know when to smok’um away
And know when to have yeehaw! fun.
You never count your secret race money
When you’re sittin’ at the parts counter
The’ll be time enough for part$ countin’
After the Wife’s household countin’s done
~~Gasser Classic~~
Awesome!
Good job dude 😎
Awesome.
Nice 🤘🏻
🤙
what are those film overlays for the square vid? Nice job!
Good luck in 2024 oh by the way you don't look old to me. I'm 76 and i still feel young on my 1250GS.
Grand daddy of them all? can someone please tell him about Dakar Rally? 😁
You want me to race Dakar?
didn't mean no disrespect, just saying there are bigger and much much more difficult desert races than Baja 1000@@oldbonezracing764x
Dakar is a different animal all together. Trust me, he knows about Dakar.
Bravo!!..what age?????
He’s 58
you got to go do it!
i can give you numbers, people that wish they could do it, people that dont start (register and back out); get hurt bad, deaths and other such figures .... i ran 4 times broke first two, third finished after the time was disqualed and finished 9 th out of 11 finishers .... it is extremely hard to do plan, put a crew together get a set of chase teams for the down and then the up. the need to to eat water take care of the bruises and bumps the pyschologic beatings the fear and the unknown! it isnt for the weekend rabbit chaser in the desert. i am better for having tried as you are.
at your age you have one under you join a team, i never iron maned it! i was on a four man team and that was work we lost a rider to injury, i rode a broken bike 80 miles.
What type / brand is the jack? Been looking for one
Huh?
Soz wrong video 😂
What mile marker did you go out on?
Race mile 327
I thought you might have edited it it a little out of order sort of like reservoir dogs or pulp fiction go back in time and then come forward Instead of just chronological but I like the video good energy
Thanks man! I played around with hopping back and forth but I couldn’t find a structure that felt right, so i just stuck with the chronological order
Never seen pulp fiction. But maybe this comment is more towards Tanner?
i'd say 3rd time is a charm
We are really hoping 2nd time is his charm!!!
relly you were hoping the 1st time you'de at least finish if not top 10
@@Race_manager764x
Always have goals when racing.
Whose that stud at 12:34 ?
Another Awesome Ironman!!!
Next time, get different fender in front, one that hugs the tire.
Not sure that’s the answer, as you turn the rocks get flung up hitting the bike.
@@Race_manager764x It is the answer.
Chin mounts buddy and you wont lose your go pro
For sure lol
The GoPro wasn’t mounted correctly. Lesson learned, don’t rely on someone else installing. It may have fallen off even before he hit the ground.
Wierd vibes in this one. Old Moneyz Racing? Smile, you're in Baja Dentistry? ...yep, I'm just jealous.😂
Baja vibes all the way!!!
you’re body positioning on the bike is terrible. You put so much pressure on your arms, and you quit wayy to easy no wonder you havent finished baja yet, put a new radiator hose on and keep going! And next time double layer the radiator hoses so they cant break as easily
