That's why I was so excited for the new jerry is season 6 episode 1, because we finally get to see a Jerry thrive
His entire character is a litmus test. The writers clearly depict Rick as a vain, self-serving narcissist. They show the dichotomy of Rick and Jerry's philosophy in good ways, like how Rick can only be satisfied when pushing boundaries or expressing power, while Jerry can be happy just existing. In universes without Rick, Jerry thrives. Evil Jerry abandoned part of his Jerry-ness to ruthlessly conquer his own earth. Cronenberg Jerry is basically the same, but with more self confidence. I would actually say the Jerry hate is essential for this show, because it helps to point out which of the audience is as vain and narcissistic as Rick.
@@cooldud7071 And you, Sir/Ma'am, are at least part of the reason why the entire R&M-fanbase has a reputation as overanalyzing, laughauble armchair psychologists.
@@janberkemeier7406 It has nothing to do with being an "armchair psychologist", these are pretty clear traits shown by each character. The intention of the writers is clear. It isn't "overanalyzing", these are basic aspects of the show. I don't even watch Rick and Morty, I just gathered this from the few episodes my friends forced me to watch.
@@cooldud7071 So you judge a whole group of people based on whether or not they like the main character of a comedy show (calling them "vain narcissists" if they do), assign another main character who is written specifically as the butt-monkey of the main cast the position of a "litmus test", and you don't even fucking watch the show, thus lacking anything to actually base this judgement on? And someone has to "force you" to watch a comedy show you go on to dissect (poorly) in CZcams-comment sections? And that's somehow not armchair psychology, but "basic" understanding of a show you don't watch? You wouldn't happen to spend a lot of time on reddit, would you?
I have a theory that the entire outside of the Jerry Day Care is actually part of the facility in order to scare Jerry's into staying inside (and more importantly not ever trying to go on adventures with R&M)
Jerry’s the most realistic and relatable character and that’s why everyone shits on him. People just don’t wanna acknowledge that everyone has a little bit of jerry in them.
True. He's a reminder that "No, you're not a supergenius Rick. No, you're not a badass Summer. You're not even an eccentric Morty or a confident Beth. You are, somewhere deep inside you, a mundane Jerry. You seek approval from others; you're not rich, famous, or infamous; sometimes, the people around you and even the whole universe just seem to hate you. You probably can't do much to be the hero, and you get left out sometimes. The average viewer, and indeed the average person...is some kind of Jerry. And that's okay.
I feel kind of bad in a way because I've met individuals like that. They...try to do their best for the benefit of others and then just fail miserably on a consistent basis.
@@Jackson-yl6qb I agree. They are people pleasers. But because they lack the skill do get things competently done, they end up being irrelevent or even create more issues.

Sure, he caused Morty to go back in time and lose his goddamn life and girlfriend, but do you really believe that Morty did nothing wrong? It's Morty's fault because he was negligent with the remote and didn't make a safe point in the first place. It's like putting the blame on the game or someone else rather than your negligence/carelessness for not initially saving the game.

Jerry has a anxious preoccupied attachment style and Beth is a fearful avoidant attachment style. They both self-sabotage their lives and relationships in their own way.
I remember hating him for being such a sore loser. But right now, I feel bad for him because no one in the family likes him and I think that the reason why everyone hates Jerry is because Rick made everyone hate him. One thing I realized about Jerry is that even though he's a sore loser, he finds ways to enjoy life. If I was Jerry, I would leave the family, start over, and improve in becoming a better and different person.
Kinda weird how Jerry's slowly becoming a bit of a favorite now that some time has passed. Haven't watched season 6 but as of now I am intrigued by the apocalypse Jerry showing up.
Jerry is easily the best character in the show besides Morty. He’s a pathetic loser and one a lot of people just hate because to be like Rick you have to hate Jerry. But really he’s just a simple guy trying his best to be a good father and occasionally making mistakes, and getting crapped on constantly for it because he doesn’t understand Rick or Beth’s intelligence. We’re all Jerry sometimes, it’s not a bad thing to own it.
Ever notice that Jerry just rolls with the punches, No matter how much it sucks and how much shit he goes through? While the Ricks created the central finite curb in order to give themselves Unchallenged dominance of the multiverse, Escapism where they can feel as miserable as they want while not facing reality and playing god
Sad thing is, if he were surrounded by a normal family, he would be seen as an alright dad. He always tries to love his kids the best he can and tries to get involved with their lives. Most people see him as stupid and a coward, but thats just because he's being compared to the smartest man in the multiverse, if he truly got a shot on a simple family with no multidimensional science god and his intelligent selfcest loving daughter, I could see him becoming a fan favorite almost.
To think the only time we've seen Jerry not be pathetic is when he paid the ultimate price, when he lost everything and everyone he loved or if he and Beth never met. Makes you wonder if there is a universe out there where Jerry has a family and is loved without pitty.
This is honestly the worse aspect of the show. The way Rick gets away with his child like behavior and cynicism, and always seems to be in the right when treating jerry like shit when he's the most human character in the show
Jerry is the punching bag of the show but is probably one of the worst punching bags in fiction, at least what I’ve read. Whenever he’s being relentlessly bullied by the cynical assholes that are his family I physically cringe because not only is it not funny but it’s kind of sad to watch. And the writers try to portray HIM as being in the wrong for being a regular person
Honestly, I think it's on the fans. The writers do a pretty good job of making it clear the other characters are cruel narcs. It's like it simulates being a member of the Smith family, eyes glued to Rick and being gaslit into thinking the only one not handy in psychotic hijinks is too lame to care about.
I remember laughing my ass off, _immensely,_ when that scene of Jerry and Beth getting attacked by a homeless guy came on TV for the first time (the scene is at 2:27 btw.)
Honestly, "Hungry for apples" Unironically sounds like a pretty good advertisement Generic fruit advertisements are known for their simplicity and "Hungry for apples?" is a simple, broad, and memorable query
That’s one of my favourite episodes. “Human music… I like it”. Every time I offer my husband an apple I laugh and say “Hungry for apples?” We both love Jerry
I swear i want there to be an episode where we get to meet a sort of Superior Jerry. This Jerry is just as intelligent and smart as Rick but he got that way bc he never married beth and never had Morty and summer. That would be a rather great episode bc we get to see Jerry being a smartass, quick witted, Chad. Who's with me?
Most people hate Jerry because they think they are rick, and rick hates Jerry so they hate him so they can be like rick. In reality, there's no reason to hate Jerry. He's just a normal guy. He saw a girl out of his league at school, accidentally got her pregnant and lived a normal, stable life until rick showed up. He's a bit of a coward and a moron, but so are most people. He's not a bad person, he's just an average Joe
Maybe an unpopular opinion, but I used to feel bad for Jerry and felt that all the hate he got wasn't deserved. However, the episode where he tried to kill Rick (although he didn't go through with it) and Rick's subsequent monologue about his victim mentality changed that for me. Met a lot of people over the years who are just like that. Acting all goody two shoes and how they're just trying to have a good time while everyone else is putting them down, only to realise later that they basically are a living manifestation of the Dunning Kruger effect. They keep insisting that nothing is ever their fault and the universe is just mean to them. The basic mentality of "oh why do bad things happen to good people" and "why the nice guy never gets the girl". These people are opportunistic, will not hesitate to back stab you at the first sign of inconvenience and manipulate you into thinking they deserve to be saved while they drag you down with them. They'll scratch and claw at your legs every time you try to move ahead in life and then when you finally do, will blame you for leaving them behind.
The worst part is that even after Rick so clearly laid out Jerry perfectly, including how he explicitly uses his nature to manipulate others into feeling sorry for him. So many people are saying "Sad thing is if only" and that is EXACTLY how Jerry survives. Rick was right, and Jerry deserves nothing but scorn.
Gotta say i never disliked Jerry he is the voice of reason almost everytime even more than Rick and thinking about it makes me realize that Jerry its the equivalent of us being in the Smith-Sanchez family we are going to most likely being treated like shit from them Summer with that know it all bitch attitude Morty disrespecting us every minute Beth calling us lazy useless human and blaming us for everything wrong going on in the house and of course Rick calling us stupid piece of trash and not give a shit for us at all. Anyways Jerry deserves better and be treated right :')
I had more sympathy for Jerry early on as he looked like someone who simply lacked the confidence to make his own way. But after seeing some of Beth's memories and how he tunes out the world around him I actually have less respect for him now. Basically he leaves everything for Beth to fix and I think his kids know it. Once their's a problem he's out....for the most part. The show isn't exactly consistent with characters!
I feel bad for Jerry. His wife is a narcissist, his children are assholes, and his step-fathers an intergalactic criminal sociopath, but HES the series' punching bag because hes NORMAL.
with this great amount of hate, jerry is respectable for the huge mental capacity that he has, he always threathens to end himself but deep inside hes either to scared for that or he just uses it to "lure his victims" with pity, since he would rather be crying alone than end himself
Jerry’s development in season 6 is AMAZING. Apocalypse Jerry being a total badass and moving on from his past. Then Main Jerry maturing and being a man when his wife cheats on him with… herself? Glad to see Jerry getting justice.
It's actually kind of hilarious, Rick is basically the most powerful character in the series, he knows everything about pretty much any situation he ever finds himself in, he has limitless power at his fingertips whenever he wants it, and he's a cynical asshole that is completely convinced that since he knows that life has no meaning, nothing does have any meaning. Jerry is basically his opposite in every way, and despite being the very kind of person that Rick considers pointless, he genuinely tries to have a good time and be optimistic wherever he goes. I think a great deal of whom you would consider to be the "better man" revolves around just how cynical you are as a person. The funniest part is that just like that Meeseeks that was tasked to explain the meaning of life says, the meaning of life is whatever you choose to do with it, even if he didn't believe in that answer himself.
It's hilarious to me that Parks and Rec also has a character named Jerry who is supposed to be super lame, simple, and universally hated. Makes me wonder if there's a real "Jerry" in the tv industry that all the writers have met and hated.
The only thing and the easiest thing Jerry could’ve done to be stop being miserable is to just choose a different person to be with.

I have a theory that the entire outside of the Jerry Day Care is actually part of the facility in order to scare Jerry's into staying inside (and more importantly not ever trying to go on adventures with R&M)
or at least that rick was very particular with the planet he chose to build the daycare on for the same reasons.
7:20 Summer's rant at Jerry is so fucking cringe. Literally despised her character in this moment.
I hated her since beginning to be honest.

The only moment I really hated Jerry was when he accidently reversed morty's life with his girlfriend lol
You cant hate Jerry for that. He was never told about the remote, plus Morty just left it out and didn't make a save point. It was 100% on Morty.
It was not his fault
It..was Morty's fault tho? What are you saying? Blaming someone's fault and sht
@@adorabilisy2990 mistaking a remote device when your father in law makes devices that bend space and time? Dude cmon, Jerry gets the blame
Although I don't really like Jerry, I don't think he is the only person to blame.

Summer is the worse tbh . Jerry was literally just trying to be a good dad and she totally hated on him

I would have loved a dad like Jerry. At least Jerry loves his kids.

This seems to be the best summary of jerry’s life!

This is honestly the worse aspect of the show. The way Rick gets away with his child like behavior and cynicism, and always seems to be in the right when treating jerry like shit when he's the most human character in the show

Ok be honest, a lot of us secretly thought this might work when first watching the episode lol
4:04: jerry actually has the reaction speed of a god, no normal person could just dodge a bullet like that

I remember laughing my ass off, _immensely,_ when that scene of Jerry and Beth getting attacked by a homeless guy came on TV for the first time (the scene is at 2:27 btw.)
Honestly, "Hungry for apples" Unironically sounds like a pretty good advertisement
Generic fruit advertisements are known for their simplicity and "Hungry for apples?" is a simple, broad, and memorable query
That’s one of my favourite episodes. “Human music… I like it”. Every time I offer my husband an apple I laugh and say “Hungry for apples?” We both love Jerry

That's why Rick and Summer are my favorites. They are savages when it comes to insults lol.
3:00 I crack up every time 😂
It’s also his entire character in a nutshell
I swear i want there to be an episode where we get to meet a sort of Superior Jerry.
This Jerry is just as intelligent and smart as Rick but he got that way bc he never married beth and never had Morty and summer.
That would be a rather great episode bc we get to see Jerry being a smartass, quick witted, Chad.
Who's with me?
The comics have something like that with doofus jerry
You're right about all of this
Jerry may have improved in some areas in season 6 but there's still plenty about him that's still terrible

Their problems are also inter-dimensional and intergalactic, how can Jerry solve them?
The truth is that jerry would be all of us, we wouldn't last half of the time Jerry lasted in that crazy world
