  • @cpoco
    @cpoco Před měsícem +1

    Mr Baddeley does some fantastic work. I'm about half way through R2 but have been paused for a few years as my 3D printer stopped working and other things distracted me... I'm half tempted to reprint him anyway as what I have is a bit hit and miss... having said that... it's about 250 or so pieces printed of about 500... so tough choice. I think the design has been updated since then so I might have to have a look... I'm also tempted to try casting the dome in metal (via home made forge)... but that could be tricky.

    • @MMsPropShop
      @MMsPropShop  Před měsícem +1

      Definitely! His files are so well designed and thought out.
      Oof. Yeah, that is a tough call. I believe they’ve tried to have most new version parts work with past versions of the droids but you’d have to check.
      The metal dome sounds like a very cool and very complex project lol

    • @cpoco
      @cpoco Před měsícem

      @@MMsPropShopIt's partly because when transporting my partially built R2 to the local hackerspace for an open day, it got knocked about a bit so there is some damage. I think the new dome design looks more "solid" too... I'll likely print some test pieces then attempt casting and see how that goes... otherwise I just have a lot of sanding and filling to bring the rest of it up to a nice standard (I don't have quality printers like yours :D... or your skill... let's not forget that!)

    Do you run into any issues running both printers on the same table together?

    • @MMsPropShop
      @MMsPropShop  Před měsícem

      I was initially concerned about that as well but there seems to be no difference in quality with them running at the same time or not. If they were printers that didn’t have input shaping then it would most likely be a different story.

    Very excited to see this. I started the animated Chopper before the live version was shown at celebration. Finished the legs and feet and some of the body. Decided to switch to the live version and waited for all the files to be updated. In the interim the Bambu X1C was released. I was using PLA+ before and now everything is ABS. What a difference in toughness it makes, and everything prints 4 or 5 times as fast.
    Please, please, please make videos on the steppers and electronics when you get to them. I have read a lot and watched videos, but that is the going to be the hardest part for me. Are you going with the Padawan and Maestro system?

    • @MMsPropShop
      @MMsPropShop  Před měsícem

      Yeah it’s pretty incredible what these latest generation printers can achieve.
      I’ll do my best with making a video about the electronics process although I’m no expert so
      I’m not entirely sure how helpful it’ll end up being lol. I really haven’t looked too into the specifics of what the pros and cons of the various system setups are, but I’ll most likely go with whatever one seems more beginner friendly or at least better documented in terms of setup to help me figure things out.

    • @MMsPropShop
      @MMsPropShop  Před měsícem +1

      I’m going to look at doing a video giving updates on all of the printers I’ve been using lately. I never know how many people are interested in specific reviews as opposed to the more project based videos so I figured a roundup review of everything would strike a good balance.
      Yes, I did purchase an X Max 3. It’s a fantastic printer if you’re in need of the larger build volume. It’s essentially the larger version of an x-plus 3 with a slightly different outer casing.

      @@MMsPropShop no worries! Sounds like a good plan :) awesome, looking into a printer that will just do bigger pieces overall and specifically full helmets. I’m quite new to printing (very new) and qidi seem quite user friendly from what you’ve shown!

    All thanks to you :D
    You mentioned your new ABS-settings. Would you mind sharing them? I sometimes have some problems with fitting 2 pieces together, so maybe my settings are not 100% correct 😅

    • @MMsPropShop
      @MMsPropShop  Před měsícem

      Haha, that’s awesome! Sorry for being a bad influence? 🤣
      I annoyingly couldn’t get Orca to export a config file for my settings, but here are screenshots: drive.google.com/drive/folders/1FyujBmhh-VTaaXOMi8OSnKjPlPwtihe3
      A lot of the time I’ll change the speed to 90% on my machine. It’s mostly to guarantee that high stress parts are properly melting together. I know I could go in and adjust all of the speeds but just changing it on the machine works for me for now.
      When the pieces don’t fit is it because things don’t seem to line up correctly or that things seem too big/small to fit into other parts?

    • @codyrex4382
      @codyrex4382 Před měsícem

      @@MMsPropShop
      I would definitivly not say a bad influence, but on the other side it gets quite expencive very fast 😅😂
      The parts seem to be too big, like a milimeter or so. I recently printed a ramp for a robot vacuum and the parts were fittet with dove tails. I needed to sand all of them so they would fit.
      So you just adjust your speed at the printer directly, not in the slicer?
      And thank you for the screenshots!

    • @MMsPropShop
      @MMsPropShop  Před měsícem

      @codyrex4382 there is a chance that it could just be that the file hasn’t allowed enough clearance between pieces, but if it isn’t then it’ll be due to a slight over extrusion on the walls.
      Yes, just adjusting the speed on the printer. Maybe a bit impractical but I haven’t been bothered to adjust all of the speeds down in the slicer 😂 It will print fine at 100% but on thinner pieces that are all or mostly walls and no infill, I find that full speed can risk delamination.

    • @codyrex4382
      @codyrex4382 Před měsícem

      @@MMsPropShop
      Thanks for the tipp!
      How could I get rid of this over extrusion?
      Will try to adjust the speed on the printer, seems to be easier and more flexible than in the slicer anyway 😊

    • @MMsPropShop
      @MMsPropShop  Před měsícem

      @codyrex4382 technically it could be caused by overheated filament; too much is oozing from the nozzle when it’s printing. But if you feel the temperature is good, there are extrusion multiplier settings for each type of part on a print. A lot of times the walls will be set to 0.42mm, you could lower it to 0.4mm or less.

    Curiouse, why ABS and not ASA?
    Awesome videos!

    • @MMsPropShop
      @MMsPropShop  Před měsícem +2

      It seems the only true advantage of ASA over ABS is its UV resistance which isn’t going to change much for a piece that’s going to get fully painted in the end. Add to that the extra cost of ASA, just didn’t seem worth it. I mostly prefer printing in ABS because of how easy it is to post process; the added strength and resistance is just a bonus.

    • @TheMindClot
      @TheMindClot Před měsícem

      Valid points! I have printed with a lot of ASA mainly because it does not give off any bad fumes (but a LOT of particulates), I have not tried ABS because of the fumes. Thanks for your point of view, I will give ABS a try

    • @woodworker3856
      @woodworker3856 Před měsícem

      I am also a fan of using ABS over ASA for the exact same reasons you stated. On big projects like this the difference in price adds up pretty quickly!
