Saw a post about this a while ago.
Aang's journey is to become more like korra, as in confidence and determination
And Korra's journey is to become more like aang, as in patience and spirituality.
      It's a nice parallel.

And while it does have a 1920's style, Its actually more styled after 1920's Hong Kong. From the architecture, clothing, the way the shops look, the cars.

And while Wan was great, everything with Raava and Vaatu is bad IMO. Just having a good guy spirit and an evil devil spirit is boring AF. Avatar Wan using spirit bending to start the cycle would have been nice, or just have the spirits be peace and conflict instead of dark side light side. Keep the themes of finding balance instead of just beating up the Satan stand in.

      2. Vaatu is *not* at all a Satan standin. Vaatu and Raava appear respectively to be representations of darkness and chaos and light and peace in the yin-yang (Taìjí tú) concept in Chinese philosophy, which is used to describe the way in which opposite forces are interconnected and interdependent in the natural world. When Tenzin, Pema, and their children arrive in the Southern Water Tribe, Jinora and Ikki dismount their bison via an airbending technique known as the air scooter, a move invented by their paternal grandfather, Avatar Aang.
At the end of the episode, Jinora and Ikki come gliding in using traditional Air Nomad gliders.
The way Katara discovered Korra leaving the Southern Water Tribe is similar to the way Kanna discovered Katara and Sokka leaving in the second episode of the original series. In both cases, a young person is leaving, somehow affecting the Avatar, and the elder lets them go.
When Korra arrives in Republic City and sees the great statue of Avatar Aang for the first time, she stares at it just like Aang stared at the statue of Avatar Roku at the Southern Air Temple.
A schematic for a mecha tank can be seen on the wall during the Lieutenant's conversation with Amon at the end of the episode.
Jinora refers to Katara by the name "Gran Gran", which is the term that Sokka and Katara used to refer to Kanna.
When talking to Katara, Jinora asks what happened to Zuko's mother.

Something to keep in mind. Originally, Korra was supposed to have 1 season. Then it was supposed to have 2 seasons. And finally they settled on 4. So, unlike the original series where it was practically planned as a long story broken up in chapters. Korra is more of a set of sequels that try to build upon themselves with the writers and teams always thinking the next season finale would be the last. They do a pretty decent job with all things considered, but it's a bit jarring if one expects an overarching plot/villain.

Even big cities like Ba Sing Se from the OG show are not as developed. I think Republic City was meant to showcase the best of human ingenuity if everyone could live together peacefully. Whereas the other nations are slower to develop because they're still insular. It's essentially the industrial boom of late 19th century and early 20th century America with the immigration all that.

I liked this series my first watch through. But every time I try to re watch it, I end up leaving it. It's a drag to re-watch.

    5:45-Long story short:
Ursa(Zuko's mom) got banished, met with a spirit who gave her a new face and identity, she got a new husband and made another child(Zuko and Azula's half sister),then got attacked by Azula,Zuko saved her, went to the same spirit to give her old identity back,Azula then got a group of lunatics to help her against Zuko, kidnapped their half sister but Zuko and team avatar stopped her, then Azula left, was never seen again and Ursa lived happily ever after.

With how much technology the firenation had during atla exclusively for war (jetskis, tanks, blimps, subs, etc) it makes sense that 75 years of peace all that tech would be used and advanced for just regular society
