Sitting here chuckling. I did a similar size one in mahogany about a year ago, was slightly longer. Making it was easy. Getting it upstairs (stairway at 90 degrees to entryway), that was priceless. Main piece was 14” wide. Used 2 thinner pieces to makeup the needed 16” on the backside. Kerfed the the underside to help with any possible cupping. Installed on maple (GF satin poly) bookcases.
I built my bar out of cherry. 10'*20'*30" deep u shaped bar with mitered ends to make the 90° turn. I feel your pain. Love the pocket screw idea for butt joints. I did strap clamps for those pieces. Now I have to make a 18"*16' high top bar... Going to steal the pocket hole assembly for that.
Your definition of small shop is way bigger than mine...
Do u use MDF or plywood for bench how prevent curve on the top?
Some of my benches are plywood, some are high density MDF depends on what I have when I need a bench
