Thank you all for your remarkable support over the years! I cannot express enough how grateful I am for your appreciation and patronage of this channel, my training style, and my kennel. Always remember, it’s a great day for a puppy-sized adventure!
Will you do a video on the curly coated retriever? It’s my understanding that’s a pretty rare dog.
A no nonsense approach to life and dog training. There’s nothing like exercise for good mental health!
I have 6 labs here in Minnesota.. it's been well below zero every day for over a week. We still do our daily adventures in the woods, and they LOVE it! There is no stopping them, and I am so grateful to have them as inspiration to get out there and explore 😊❤ love your videos, Uncle Stonnie! I hope to be a trainer like you in the near future!!
My awesome lab keeps me going too!
She doesn’t like below zero though…she’ll take a seat, lift up a paw, and look back at me like I’m a monster or something!
Do they use footwear on their paws, or au-natural? Had a Lab/Weimaraner cross that would freeze his feet walking on concrete in single digits.
@Old_Sailor85 no footwear! We don't have any concrete around here, though! I understand that could be different. We are lucky to have a decent amount of property to explore right at home.
@jimm244 🤣🤣 yes, mine will do that when I just let them out to potty in the morning. I call it the chihuahua dance. 😋 But once we are out in the woods or chasing the four-wheeler, they are happy as can be.
@@Old_Sailor85 I’ve tried two brands of booties. Getting them to stay on is a loosing proposition. We occasionally see dogs with booties while XC skiing…but we’ve yet to see a dog with more than three at a time!
I’m not sure who gets more enjoyment out of being out on our daily adventures, me or the dog…:) I started watching your videos about 2 years ago. I got my pup October 8, 2023 and have yet to miss a day being out twice a day with him, regardless of the weather. The dog can thank you for that! I’m in North central British Columbia and weather wise we have seen it all. Having a dog and having good health to get out with him is a gift, I don’t take that for granted. Thank you for all of the effort you put into your channel.
Thank you for watching!
What a wonderful back yard to give the dogs exercise and your daughter a nice sled ride.
Stonnie-I found you when I got my second pup, a black english lab, about 2 years ago. He was a handful. I was seeking someone for encouragement and I found you. Since then, I approached my walks and time w/ him in an entirely different way. We haven't missed a day of walking since I've had him. Rain, wind, sleet, ice, snow, heat, humidity...well, it all comes w/ the dog ownership package. He's a great dog, and he loves life. Thank you for reminding me why I love my boy so much! Be well.
That's a beautiful place you have, Stonnie, and I appreciate how much hard work it takes to make it that nice. It's an idyllic place for dogs and humans!
Thank you!
I wish I had found your channel when my dog was a puppy.
To tell you the truth I have done a lot of similar training with my dog by complete accident, it just seemed like the logical thing to do.
I have a happy, confident Border Collie x Golden Retriever, he is more retriever in behaviour but his colouring is Collie.
So much off leash fun and impeccable recall.
The small retriever series really helped.
I definitely made the correct choice in dog.
Thanks for the channel, you have a new subscriber.
Love Stonnie! I have been a full-time DOG TRAINER near Toledo Ohio for the past 21 years. I also advise my clients to get out and explore their surrounding areas with their dogs. Many times, they come back week after week with excuses why they haven't even gone out in their own back yards with the dogs! I share your videos with my clients! Started my CZcams channel a few months ago. I have some videos explaining a few easier ways trying to inspire them to try something! Even if it is to just start by taking a car ride! I think some dogs are bored out of their minds by seeing the same environment every day. Warms my heart to see another trainer who teaches this!
I’m in South Dakota. I measure this based on if my dog starts limping because his paws are too cold.
The three foot dance. Time to go home
When it's really cold, like single digits or below, I won't wear gloves when I take my Rottie out for a walk/play. I figure once it gets too painfully cold for me, it's probably too cold for him. Lol.
My standard poodle and I just came in from feeding horses and throwing them hay here in Iowa where it is -8º with a foot and half of snow. He loves the snow and doesn’t seem bothered by the cold if he’s not out too long. He was out with me for about an hour and a half this evening and was fine. Having his company makes it more fun!
Kinda jealous of Charlotte, that looks like so much fun! 😊
You are living the dream!
My girl does not give a damn if it's 15° out she'll go get that duck in that icy River.
The discussion is about "should you?". Does your dog really have to get your duck at that temperature, or are you figure of speeching here?
@@mlo5083 just try stopping her. She loves bird hunting more than anything, because she's a bird dog. I of course keep her warm and she's got a neoprene vest for those severe days. But we both love it it's not like I'm abusing her. She's in the water before the bird hits it, although we are working on steady to release lol
I highly suspect the commenter above has never been duck hunting with a high drive retriever.
Even my English lab would voluntarily get in any water , regardless of the temperature.
Your suspicions are correct. I never have. Been duck hunting that is. So what? Is that a qualification I need to comment about my opinion as to dogs in very cold weather?
I have never been out with a high drive retriever. But I have been out with a four wheel drive.@@StonnieDennis
Hi Stony, as a young man I was serving in the German army. To see one of the best dog coaches in the world and a legend, wearing this jacket, makes my heart jump. 🎉❤ Greats from southern palatinate 🙋🏼♂️ Man, you are living the dream
Thank you! I have a lot of admiration for your people and culture.
Never too cold, unfortunately gets too hot though. Gotta be very careful in the heat esoecially with humidity.
My dog is a coated breed but not lots of undercoat.. I haven't shaved her in 2 months in anticipation of winter finally getting here. Its been around 15 degrees w wind chill near 0. We went to the park and she did half the walk we normally do.....she started to shiver and limp.....I had left the car running w the heater on. We got back in the car and drove to my local TSC where dogs are allowed then did a couple of errands stopping to get her a doughnut hole on the way home. She seemed satisfied w that. We both get a little stir crazy this time of year.
Added points for the flectarn camo German Military jacket (w/patch) and a K98 Mauser in the rack. Great video.
No snow here in Central Florida but it was 41 degrees which is cold for us and we took our 2 GSP’s to the park for a 45min hike about 2miles
Looks like a lot of fun for everyone!
I had 2 labs, and where I lived at the time got down to -20 in the winter. The dogs used tunnel in the snow. They loved it.
Yes a few days ago it was too cold for my 2 GSD and Black Lab in -40F. -20F though is no big deal. Just gotta keep the blood pumping.
Love your attitude towards training man you're the best.!!!
I don't have an adventure area or a pre-adventure area, but I do have a very nice dog park with an established circle of dog friends. My Vizsla did just fine today for just over an hour, and when I couldn't take the cold toes anymore, we left. But she wasn't ready to go!
My lab will go all day in the teens without any hesitation. Single digits are iffy. 0° F & below are no-go. She lets you know about it, mostly her paws.
I'm just missing a deep relaxation soundtrack to go alongside the visual ride through the snow.
Awesome content as always, Uncle Stonnie!
I was just out in 2° in Indiana, and my GSP was hiking around with when all of a sudden she looked horrified at me while continuously raising her paws. LOL!! We went inside real quick!!
I love ‘knuckleheads’. You give them, and your daughter a wonderful life. (:-P}
Not lost on me the attention put toward a suitable mounting for sled and traversing tree filled trails.
Not your first rodeo, I presume. Enjoyed immensely. Video title caught my attention. Trying to understand my Cattle Dogs experience with sub-freezing temps. here in New England.
My olde English bulldogges like to play outside in Fairbanks Alaska, we only go for walks to about-10°F, they enjoy 10-20 minutes at a time from-10 to -30.
I’m in Gods part of Kentucky, western part lol. We did a little outside today. It wasn’t to bad. 14 here in Nortonville.
That looks like so much fun! I still walk my three little dogs. One wears a coat as she has no hair to speak of, the other 2 are Poms and they love this weather!
Good, beautiful dogs!
Looks fun. I like how the dogs breed's unique personality comes out.
Very well said
Faster, faster dad😂!!
God bless you Stonnie, thank you for your efforts.
Thank you for watching!
Learn a lot about dogs from these videos..sometimes I watch them several times..you give us a different point of view..thank you for the videos they are so helpful..I used to have a Golden Retriever and luckily she had a very good character, lost her 5 years ago.. Labs are great too, maybe one day I'm gonna have a dog again..
You hit the nail on the head right on stonnie live life
I have yet to own, or buy a coat or footwear for my Labs, and I am in Ontario.. They love the winter more than we do haha
I know Stonnie's channel is about dogs, but boy, does Charlotte look like she's having a great time or what? #jealous
Let’s make sure all the animals in the forest have coats & socks 😂
My Lab would not only have been out in the snow, but he would have been in the icy water chasing ducks and geese on the reservoir in back of my house. My Rescue, a large female Boxer/Lab mix, doesn't have an undercoat at all. She stuck her nose out the door this morning and then said no. Breakfast first lol, then she went out and hit the snow for about 10 minutes. I miss woods-walking in the Winter with my Lab, but my Rescue has a heart as big as Texas, and gives good snuggles.

See if you can find an old fashioned saucer sled. Works better for towing because it doesn't tip over easily
Or just an inner tube!
I enjoyed this video very much. GREAT! Now I want a puppy. Thanks. I have an older dog and I'm not sure how she would adapt to a new puppy????

Hiya! I love your videos and I’m absolutely on the same page with my training as you are!
I have a question : I live in New Hampshire where we are having freezing temperatures and I’m bringing home my latest black lab puppy in a few weeks… he will be 8 weeks when he comes home… (to clarify I’m a seasoned lab owner but this is my first winter puppy)… I do daily winter wonderland adventures with my labs but am not sure about how much outdoor activity to do with my 8 week old? Thoughts?

Question - we do our winter adventures just as always, but I’ve been avoiding the river because it would be 2 miles back to the truck. I think that’s too much for my golden to be in freezing weather and wet right?
No, I have an Aussie. I get cold way way way before she does

Keep them lean. Treat them mean. Even short haired dogs fare better in the cold than humans if they are acclimated.

We recently had weather that was way to cold to walk any Dog -40. My dog also doesn't have the insulating coat of the lab so I tend not to walk him at all once it reaches -4. Above that we do short walks

My 5 month old border collie thinks she's a husky and can't stop being outside in the -15C cold. So I need my layers on to say the least 😅
