I have a 2022 35” Raptor and average 18 MPG for daily use. I set my “R” Mode to “Quiet” exhaust and “Comfort” steering. I reset my trip every week and usually test MPG on 250 miles of weekly driving. Granted, I’m taking it easy driving around but 18 MPG is much better than I anticipated.
For a real good loop, you should go all the way to Snowville, get on Highway 30, and take that all the way down through Montello until you hit I-80, then east through Wendover and back. I used to live in Farr West and we had family in Elko; we used to take the north route up because there was no traffic. A bit boring but very relaxing.
Also would be a proper fuel economy test in all kinds of conditions. And there's something to be said about driving through the Great Basin desert.
Great job Ben
I'll definately give this a try. Currently around town I get 16mpg, and highway almost 18 (using quiet exhaust and all the rest of the settings "normal") not sure how the sport suspension setting will help, but we'll see!
Interestingly enough, my 17 raptor got 15 in town and 19 on the highway.
Many have said that not using cruise control will help gas mileage, but it sucks not using the trucks capabilities.
I tested it on my 19 with cruise control. when I use it I average 18 to 20 mpg in town, on the highway (65-70) about 17-18 mpg.
Ben, you are on to something here. My '15 F150 XLT 4x4 with 2.7 EcoBoost gets better mileage "in town" in Sport mode. I believe it has something to do with getting up to speed marginally quicker...maintaining speed uses much less fuel than the accelerating up to it. Especially city speeds around town.
Also, on my '15, there is a method to put your vehicle in "engineering" mode. Once in that mode you can correct you AFE (average fuel economy) bias. After doing this, the mpg readout on your truck will much more accurate. It will be almost identical to doing the math by hand.
Ben, what octane fuel do you use in your Raptor?
In ATL I get exactly the epa mpg for 37s, 13.7 city and 16 hwy. definitely going to try this. I wish the settings stayed after you turn off the truck and you didn’t have to reset them every time you turn on the truck though. Love everything else about it though.
Set up your R mode
Love the drive's video
I have a 2021 GEN three raptor. I have almost 22,000 miles on it. Tailgate opens occasionally on its own, three trips this far re-programming modules. Number five injector failed. Adjustable exhaust valves started to rattle occasionally on right hand side you can hear it if you’re outside by the truck . Front left half shaft started clicking well out in the desert. I live in the Arizona desert 2643 feet above sea level. This truck gets 14.7 miles per gallon regardless. If it’s out on a longer road trip and it’s not much above 75 you can get 16 1/2 miles per gallon. mostly I’m using the cruise control in town interactive. The truck starts and stops on its own my thinking was it would accelerate more appropriate than I would. Love the truck in spite of the issues it will get worked out. Going to write Forde to see if they will do something for me.
I have a tailgate issue on my 2016 Ford platinum and they found a piece of masking tape inside the tailgate. I’m assuming it was from the aftermarket spray liner, it could have been problem but nobody ever takes responsibility for their actions. I end up losing some of my son’s toys toys on the freeway because of it. on my 22 raptor I have no problems at all whatsoever and I have 25,000 miles and run like new.
Good morning, it’s 3:37am! 😁
Kunani what are you doing up so early???😴🥱
WHICH 1 OF THE 3 FORD RAPTORS : F-150, RANGER, BRONCO fka WARTHOG ?
My average is about 15 1/2 to 16 1/2. I am a little heavy footed and there is a stage one Whipple kit on it and I use premium gas only. If I could probably pull and 17 1/2 miles per gallon, but what’s the fun in that I didn’t buy it because it was a fuel miser.. 🐆
Gen 3 looks so much better than the Gen 2 digitally. I hold onto vehicles a long time. Maybe one day I’ll get one unless there is a Gen 4 lol
What octane rating did you use in this video?
how do you hard reset the instrument cluster on bronco raptor??????
Bro the slow lane in Florida goes like 55-60 😭😭
Yeah I mean yeah not bad. I believe 20 mpg could be possible in ideal conditions. But most dont buy a truck for fuel economy, especially not the raptor. Would be interesting to run this same test with the 2.7EB since that’s f150’s most efficient performance engine. Maybe in an XLT trim or something more basic and lighter.
I will if fords lends me one
Will this work on a raptor R?
I put 275-65 tires on my 2.7 f150 . It looks better with almost 4 inch taller tires but it’s a two wheel drive and was getting 25 mpg on the hi way. Instantly dropped to 22,22.5 ! Size matter’s!
Interesting but makes sense. I have an '18 2WD STX with stock 275/55 tires and get about the same mileage as your original setup.
4 in taller tires fit? What's their size?
@@cs1992 265-60,18 original! About 3,3/4 inch taller 275-65 ! That’s as tall as I can go on 2wheel drive.
Yea, got a Lightning Pro scheduled this week, no Dino juice for new F150!!!
I've heard terrible things about battery life on those when hauling.
I wonder if there is a noticeable difference between Eco, Normal, and Sport Mode MPG’s wise…
No ECO mode on the Raptor. But, wish they had added one for commuting.
How does Baja mode suspension feel on the road? Lots of pot holes and bridge connections on my way to work and they beat me to death in my 2012 FX4. Have my 22 Raptor 35 on order since Jan 22 but Ford is dragging ass and if they don't hurry TF up, I'm just gonna get a GT350.
Bah mode suspension does not work unless you’re in off-road mode
This truck has much longer gearing than my small hatchback... 2000 rpm at 80 MPH vs 3700
Ben, what antenna are you using on the Raptor?
is your tailgate down or up during testing?
I found with my 2022 37 package using Cruise control and staying around 100 KM I have seen 13L for 100K
What language is this written in ?!? I have no concept of what you are trying to tell me 🙂
How did you get the raptor in green? How much did it cost?
Just a wrap, probably a few grand or less
Good stuff. Here's the plan. Determine the ideal settings for maximizing MPG, then if you can, set a "My Mode" to that setting arrangement so you can always go to it quickly and easily in just one step. Can that be done?
I think Ford needs to add a hybrid system to the 3.5 TT HO engine. That hybrid would increase economy by 5 mpg easily. Plus you wouldnt have to idle.
Doubtful itd be that efficient, the F150 3.5EB standard output hybrid is really only 2-3 mpg better in real world testing…least according to the team at TFLtruck. Not worth the extra cost it in my opinion.
@@jakes5530 it'll at least be even faster and save a little gas around the city.
I have a Powerboost F150. On the hey it’s okay. Average between 23-26mpg. But in the city/town it’s pretty efficient in the city. Under 40mph I’m mostly in EV mode. And 1/3 of my total miles on the truck is on EV mode. I’d recommend getting one.
people don't realize the ecoboost is tuned to be only 30 hp slower then the raptor but it gets over 100 more torque making it faster overall. Mine gets 23 to 24 mpg on uneven terrain for me.
DO YOU NEED A FORScan to do this ?
These are truck settings that are from factory.
I don't understand your logic on the exhaust mode being more efficient. You're just opening/closing exhaust valves to Helmholtz resonators that cancel out exhaust pulses. Unless you know something about what the setting does in regards to changing fuel or timing curves, I don't think this will have any effect on the efficiency or power output of the engine. What's much more likely is you're not hearing an aggressive exhaust tone and psychologically you adjust to that and drive more conservatively.
He really has no clue as to what he is talking about is the honest truth. But that's ok. He found a "hack" lol
This has sold me on trading in my Gen 1 2014 Raptor for a Gen 3 2023 Raptor rather than a 2024 TRD Pro Tundra Hybrid
Was getting 11mpg on my Gen 1 in Colombia which is very hilly.
Cool... it almost gets what a cummins got 30 years ago.
And looked like a 30 year old gay truck. Only King Kong Raptor is the only truck worth buying.
Ya and, your gas is 20% more here in commifornia. Lol
Who is concerned about fuel efficient. It's a raptor. I'm a Gen 1 guy and I'll be after this blown V8 R.
Dude is putting around at 43 mph and is surprised it’s not gulping gas.
Ben you are turning into a real gas miser!!! Biden would be very proud of you!!!😝
FJB!
😆😆😆
Im averaging like 10 idk what these comments are smokin on. My buddys at 8mpg and another one with a trx at 6mpg
“Burns more fuel for better sound” might be the dumbest thing I’ve heard in a while. You could make an argue for back pressure with the turbos or something other than sound relation. They’re flaps in the exhaust tubes, nothing is changing in regards to the engine when I change the exhaust setting lol.
Bro
I do allot of in town driving with sone highway driving here in California with my Gen 3 and I barely average 13 mpg's! Most of the time I'm in normal mode with the exception of when I get on the highway I switch to sport. IDK the mpg's are not as advertised by Ford. I've driven from Cen-Cal to LA several times and I barely hit 15mpgs. I don't abuse my truck in any way.... starting to think I have a slight issue here .
Same here. I'm getting 14.4 average and my 19 got 16.5 average... I def drive my 22 easier too. Pretty annoyed.
"This Simple Trick" except it's not a "trick", it's A FREAKING SETTING! tldr: Ben's "trick" is to put the truck in "Normal" mode. Wow ben, what a "trick"! Also, another video where you start it w/ your mouth open.
Why do you watch his videos then?
@Greg Hines- Take a deep breath and then count to 10.. Everything‘s gonna be OK…
@@angryace4017 some people love a good train wreck
That wasn't really the trick. Smooth brain moment.
Bro chill
You should not worry about fuel economy if you buy a Raptor!
That's saying like if you're a weight lifter you shouldn't own a couch because sitting isn't exercising. In reality both people & vehicles serve different purposes at different times & this is an offroad performance truck not a street performance truck but he appeared to be doing daily commuting with it.
Should’ve bought a Prius😂
Well I don't know but I think the fuel efficiency doesn't really make any significant difference if it's on a 35 or 37.
It does
Umm… who cares, if I wanted good gas mileage I would have purchased a Prius. 😂
Who the hell buys a Raptor for fuel economy?🤣 Mine gets about 11 MPG in Sport mode. Comfort steering, Baja suspension and Baja Exhaust. I bought it to drive it like a bat out of hell not creep around like Grandpa.
