    • @gsxr1189
      @gsxr1189 Před 3 lety +2

      Except it's not $17 a tank because being turbo the Raptor can run on Regular but being supercharged the TRX must have Premium to avoid detonation. Figuring the price differences of regular/premium in my area it's a $13,000 difference over a 150,000 mile life of the truck and that's figuring that gas prices stay where they are and we don't ever see a rise to a national average of over $5/gal for premium like they did in the recession.

    • @gsxr1189
      @gsxr1189 Před 3 lety +4

      Also the trucks are not the same price if both were similarly optioned out including tax the Raptor is $19,000 cheaper than the TRX. Add the $19,000 lower price tag of the Raptor to the $13,000 lower cost to fuel it and the Raptor is $32,000 less. But that's not all because TFL's Raptor which is nearly fully optioned out was $77,000 but you can get a 2yr old Raptor with the exact same option package and 30k miles on it for $55,000 which actually including fuel savings would make the Raptor over $50,000 less than the TRX.

For me, same cost, I'd take the Raptor all day, the extra power isn't worth anything to me for what I would use the truck for, mild off road, camping, overlanding. But the range is a killer...500 per tank is a very big deal when planning a route that takes you through fairly remote parts of the country off road where you can easily be 100 miles between gas stations or worse. I'm actually thinking of converting my current F150 to the 36gal tank to end up with around 600+ range on a tank which almost means no need for a 5gal rotopax, though regardless of range, knowing you always have a backup can set your mind at ease.

  • @Steve-yr5vi

    I had a truck with a camper shell, taking it off always bumped my highway average by 1-2 mpg, I'd say add 1 mpg to the Raptor mpg average or take if off completely? However even still the gas cost difference won't be significant, if you're driving ten thousand miles a year the TRX is going to cost around $500-600 more in gas. The impact of having a 550+ mile range vs a 342 mile range will have a significant impact on what can be done with the TRX vs. the Raptor. For example, there are already people getting rid of the GT500 in favor of the GT350 and the stated reason is the GT500 consumes so much gas they have to constantly fill it up.

      Depending on driving habits, cost of fuel, miles driven, other variables etc, that would be insane. My F150 5.0 has a 36 gallon tank. Usually I fill it up around a 1/4 tank but lately i've been filling it at half tank. A full tank for me is about 600 miles. I go through roughly 2 tanks of fuel a month. So my average cost with my truck is probably between $100-$150 based off driving habits, how much I drive and the price of fuel. Price of fuel varies as I usually go to a gas station linked with a grocery store to take advantage of their fuel perks program. I can't image putting $800 in my gas tank monthly and not using my F150 for some sort of business or work application where the truck was a tool and a tax write off.

    • @woodfloordoctor663
      @woodfloordoctor663 Před 3 lety +1

      There are studies all over that are done on this. Its conclusive that the best fuel economy is done without any shell or cover over the box. The trucks cab and box are designed to work together to reduce the drag coefficient, without using a box cover. In other words, adding a tonneau cover or shell to the box, makes the truck much less aerodynamic, thus reducing mileage. Also, removing or lowering the tailgate also increases drag. The cab and box work together. These new trucks and actually really aerodynamic with number barely at a .30
