Ram TRX vs. Ford Raptor vs. Rivian R1T | Which Pickup Truck Is More Fun? | Off-Road, HP & More

  • The Ford Raptor is widely considered one of the most fun off-road pickups to take off-road, and in this truck comparison video, Ryan ZumMallen from Edmunds brings out the Ram TRX and Rivian R1T to see how they stack up against Ford's powerful pickup. The Ford Raptor and Ram TRX both put out tons of horsepower and provide the type of performance that off-road enthusiasts are looking for. The Rivian R1T represents the new wave of pickup trucks: electric trucks that have the power and off-road prowess to hang with the likes of the Ford F-150 Raptor and Ram 1500 TRX. All three cost close to or above $100K, but which pickup truck is the right one at that price point? Of these three trucks, which one is the most fun to drive? The Ford Raptor, Ram TRX, or Rivian R1T?

    • @1190CB
      @1190CB Před 2 lety +2

      Just curious, but how much range do you have towing something like a boat? My biggest concern so far is only being able to tow for a couple hours then having to stop and charge for 45 minutes ha.

    • @adampage007
      @adampage007 Před 2 lety +4

      @@1190CB Haven't paid attention to it yet, the lake is only 21 miles from home so the range isn't a concern for the trip. The boat mostly lives at the lake during the summer so I'm usually only dropping it in the water, and taking it out rather than towing it round trip from home several times a week. What I've seen from others is a 40-60% range drop depending on the trailer. I've seen others tow long distances but I really wouldn't want to do it often until there are more chargers and one's set up to accommodate a trailer without unhitching.

      @@1190CB He's right about the charge drop with towing. My brother has one, while awesome and a great piece for future EV, the 400 mile trip towing a 5000lb trailer was less than great. We had to plan out a route that had chargers, almost every 80 miles it seemed we had to go pull in somewhere. Unfortunately, I'm not very tech savvy, so we never recorded the trip. But a paper trail has at least been started to document any decline in performance when towing.
      Use to having a little gas hog, but this trip was painful time wise. If/when the power grid catches up and these can be charged quicker, EV will be a great choice, but until then, I'd have to stick with the fossil fuel.

    if i had to pick i would pick raptor just because its more purpose build and that onboard power.Cleetus McFarland recently gave up on his diehard love of RAMs and got the raptor. Ot recently saved his but when he was hosting clutch kickers at the freedom factory and the pumps there were keeping up.He pulled out the raptor and was able to plug in and pump put the excess water. BUT in reality i would buy a 30k v8 coyote f150. SLAP SOME FUEL BOOST AND SOME STREET SUSPENSION OR OFFROAD (DEPENDING WHAT YOU ARE INTO.) AND YOU SMOKE TRX RUNNING 8S AND 9S IN THE 1/4 MILE PLUS YOU WILL HAVE LESS INTO IT THAN THESE TRUCKS MAKING UP TO 1200WHP OR A RELIABLE 950WHP . YOU CAN DO THAT FOR AROUND 60K IMCLUDING MODS AND TRUCK.

    3. Rivian
    Going hunting on weekends. That round trip means I would need a charging station. Good luck in the sticks. Once they figure out range/charging infrastructure that Rivian, or anotherTruck EV, get's more attractive. I am not a fan of the way the Rivian looks either. The Ram is a Dodge product, while they have gotten better I am still not willing to drop $100K on one.

      Wish ya happiness with the EV world. I entered the EV by 1st renting a Model 3 car in 2020. Then because I was in it for a short period of time (it was a weekend rental) , I elected to buy a Model S (new version with yoke steering wheel). After about a month, I was already having buyer's remorse. 6 months into ownership, I just sold it. The EPA MPGe figures are a joke... You'll ONLY achieve anything close to the advertised/published numbers if there are no stop signs, inclines (hills), erratic traffic speeds, and vehicle kept under 60mph.
      I'm going back to ICE (RAM 1500 Limited w/ diesel eng) and I'll happily pay $6+ per gallon.

    How much does replacing those 4 batteries cost? I’ve heard the avg life of an EV battery is 5 years and they cost $20k.. makes that fuel cost comparison seem a bit of a moot point..

      @@UzItOrLuzIt - great warrant, tim.. 5 years+ better than any other EV battery warranty.. How much fossil fuels/emissions are used to mine the materials that batteries come from? How do you dispose of them? Do they cause ground water pollution?

    Rivin is an impressive machine, if battery technology catches up to the point it provides more range than gas, then its over for ICE

    If I had $100,000 to spend on something fun there are WAY better things you can get than a truck. I'd spend $10k on a jet ski $20k on a side by side. And 25k on a a used truck and trailer. Then with the leftover 45k I could buy....a lot of other stuff.

    If battery tech improve for solid state or other with that performance - quick charge time and a lot of range with minimum or no degradation even electric truck will be for everybody. Now while towing - range is cut by half or more. At the moment electric works best for smaller cars, city driving, last mile deliveries. Hope Rivian battle through production hell in the worst times and deliver more and more R1 T, R 1 S nad those Amazon vans to expand to other markets and one day I will be able to Buy R1 S (dual motor) in EU.

    Brilliant, when your battery goes flat on the Rivian can you go and get a jerry can full of electricity to refill it?? No, give me the other 2 every day of the week!

    Except you only tow 100 or less
    Miles then charge for an hour and when towing it’s almost the same price as a gas truck towing.

    I've driven the R1T and was disappointed. Yes it is fast and has cool features, but the interior definitely doesn't feel 100K price tag. Raptor at the sticker price is the best of 3.
