I have a 19 Raptor. I 100% agree that it's wonderful for long road trips.
Appreciate the insight, I’m considering one of these in the next year and this video helped me out a bit, keep up the good work!
Great review about to get mine this week I’ve had on order for 15mos. Excited
Yet another awesome video from Mike
Hope you're doing great Mike? Been like forever!!!
AutoVlog Great Video I'm glad you and your wife have had a great year with her Gen 3 Raptor and I can't wait to see your Raptor R on the Channel
Always love ur uploads.
I really appreciate your Honesty, Can't wait to see u Rip up a Raptor R!!
Just got my first one an man I’ve been missing out! Love it
I believe that sound you cant figure out is the Vehicle Timing Actuator. Over a short amount of time it can become defective and rattles upon cold starting especially when its severely cold outside to boot when the top end of the motor is dry. Once the oil starts moving around the Actuator. It shut right up. Hope this helps.
Is it harmful and needed to be tended to?
If you get an answer please let me know
I love my gen 2. I’ve considered trading up to a Raptor R, but I have 86k miles on a 2019 and the gas mileage and insurance cost is a deal breaker for me. I’ve had ZERO warranty issues, just change the oil and fit new tires. Thanks for the honest review!!!
Whats the mpg in your truck? I'm considering getting a gen 2 over a new dmax zr2
@@tedbear6012 I have a tune on my truck, front mount intercooler, and aftermarket wheels and tires (slightly wider/taller tires 35” x 12.5” x 17”). I just checked yesterday and my running average is 16.6 mpg. That’s a 50/50 mix of highway (my work commute is 35 miles one way) and around town. When my truck was stock, I want to say my average was about 17.5 mpg. When stock I would sometimes see over 20 mpg highway. That’s great to me considering that my 2016 TRD Pro 4Runner wouldn’t get 17 mpg and that engine and powertrain was very underpowered. Also, I didn’t have to run premium on the stock tune, but I do with the tuner installed. The Dmax ZR2 is going to be better on fuel and the ZR2 is a great truck (my daughter stole my gas one when she turned 16). The Raptor is more fun to drive (the Dmax is pretty slow) and has a lot more interior room if that matters. However, the ZR2 rides and handles just like a Raptor and is easier to live with around town. You realize how wide the Raptor is every time you park it. Hope this helps.
I have had a Raptor SVT for 12 years 2011 no problems. I don't like these fancy technologies now, to many problems.
This was a great review! Thanks for being honest!
This is why I strongly agree in being the 1st owner of raptors.
This is the best honest and nice video I have seen on a raptor thank you sir
Nice review keep up the good work
Just watched the video great video as always
Great video bro !! Congrats !!!
I love mine, in rough canadian road the raptor is so much fun and comfy like a cadillac
Thanks for this man
Good practical advice on Raptor Gen 3
Good review thanks
Still looks good, clean package.
I have a gen 3 since September 2021 , already have 35k miles on it.
I also had the same issues with the battery and found the truck dead in the morning.
The problem is the truck gets a software update randomly and it drains the battery. It just needed a jump and the battery charged and it’s been good ever since, it didn’t needed a new battery. Besides that no issues at all
I've been watchng your channel for at least over a year, and I aw when you got this truck. I'm more impressed with it now than before. It's AWESOME!! Very impressed :) I know about the many jokes with Ford (my fav is FORD LTD: Found On Road Dying, Left To Die lol), but seriously, Ford knows how to make trucks, and I don't believe those jokes are aimed at their truck line.
Great video. Have you thought about tuning the engine?
Hey AutoVlog, you have a great channel. I really like watching your content especially when you had the Bemmer and the Ferrari (I'm a Beemer guy) but I was just wondering what happened to your buddy "Rouge Supercar"? I really thought he was gonna take off. Especially since he drives the Ultimate driving machine Lol. Just wondering Keep up the great content.
I was so torn on the Raptor vs TRX decision. I went back and forth for months. I had previously owned 2, 1st gen raptors and loved them. But the lack of a big V8 was really weighing on me. I test drove a TRX and I thought it was awesome. But I just wasn't crazy about the way the truck itself looks (the stance/presence is great though). Well, I found a new 2023 Avalanche Raptor, and just bought it without even driving it. Yes, I know...that was stupid. But I was sold on the look of the truck vs the TRX, still dumb to do that lol. Let me just say....I am IN LOVE with this V6! I love the way it revs, the way it shifts, the way the power is applied, and I really love the sound (I'm sure there's some fake stuff there, but I don't care haha)! I am just so surprised by this engine. I was so disappointed at the lack of a V8 option on the Raptor aside from spending 160k for the R. It almost kept me from buying this amazing truck. All of that worry and back and forth....for nothing. The Ecoboost is sweet.
Would you buy a Raptor R for MSRP if you could?
@@TierOperator Absolutely.
@@TierOperatorwho wouldn't lol
Trx build quality is deplorable
So ive got one of the highest mileage 3rd gens out there... 31,000 miles and bought it back in sept 2021. First one sold in VA. It has caused me 0 issues and has been an amazing road trip and off road truck.
26,500 on mine, also bought in sept 2021......trouble free only exception being drivers seat moves a little when turning, but covered under a tsb. Everything else flawless!
@@stoppardstopI’ve got a Gen 2 ‘17 and it’s been great but I’m getting close to 86k miles so thinking about trading up for a 20, 21, 22 or 23. Recommend the Gen 3 and any particular year?
@theNfl_Esq def recommend the gen 3. 2021 was the first year, but i put 35 miles on mine with few issues. Now i have a 23 and 8k and no issues. Gen 3 smooth like butter
@@stoppardstop appreciate the response. Going to check 1 out this week.
@@stoppardstop curious where you driving to/from? That’s a lot of miles. I love mine it’s great for the potholes and freeways under construction in and around Houston. Those shocks aren’t just for Baja
I love your videos. I'm looking forward to the 2023 Raptor R. I just bought a used 2021 F-150 Shelby Super Snake for $87k. And I can't decide if I should make content with it?
Mike, the video’s great. Just a general comment; the audio work could use some improving; As you switch to different camera devices, the audio levels vary, so I gotta volume up and down constantly. I guess if you keep that in mind while editing, it’d be perfect.
Beautiful looking truck. It's now mid June, 2023. Do you think any or all of those issues you noticed have been resolved by Ford by now?
Really like your videos!....I have a Gen 3 and love it (1 yr anniversary too) I noticed the same rattle and found that when you put the exhaust in sport mode it went away instantly, otherwise it went away when it warmed up. ....Thanks again for the content!!
The rattles you’re hearing is them trying to contain all the rainbows 🌈 it took to build it.
Good 1 year review. The rattling noise from the engine at cold start, could be the oil. Hydraulic lifters and thick cold oil combo. Also if level is under half on the oilstick, can start make noise for sensitive ears. Keep up the good work Micke.
Cam phasers your engine needs replacement check the car wizards videos about f150
@jay1182 I think ford fixed the cam phaser issue in 2020. That sound on cold start usually happens with the waste gate linkage for like 10-30 seconds, then goes away
We had the same issue with the batter on our bronco. Ford tech told us that he dealt with that same issue in 4 other broncos this year.
Can't wait for. RAPTOR R
Painting all the parts looks great! Always love the Content. 🎉
Just found your channel a few weeks ago as I was shopping for an F150. Brought home my new F150 Lariat today! Really excited about it. Trying to decide if I want to go with a Leveling kit and 33's or a 6" lift with 35's. Thanks for all the videos. I have binged so many.
I got a 6in on my f150 w 35s and absolutely love it but is slightly rougher ride
@@jordanblais6260 What type of offset are you running?
@@ECHO-Gaming -18
I did a 6" on my FX4 with 35's. While it looks great, ride is definitely rougher, steering radius is increased. If I'm being honest, if I had to do it again, I probably wouldn't. Too compromised for my daily driver driving style.
I think i'll get a trx instead as the R is just too dam much, thanks for a great review
With all fords quality issues they have been leading me towards tbe new gmc sierras. Love the at4
Really nice truck. What kind of wheels are those ?
I think it's the bypass line on the Fetzer valve. You just need some pliers and set of 30 wt ball berings.
I like that discarded fridge in the mud 🤣
You might want to have your exhaust manifold checked. Mine had a broken screw that would let the manifold vibrate on cold start, and when the engine heats up the metal expands and it stops.
Hey, thanks for the video very informative. I think I’ll stick with my F150 lariat though I got it fully loaded. They couldn’t put another part on the truck. I was a little startled because I was on the highway and it told me to take a coffee break which I thought was pretty funny.i have a 2015 magnetic gray f150 super crew lariat fx4 i coated the frame for nasty New England winter 😊
The engine noise might be the timing chains. I had a similar issue on a 2019 lariat 3.5 EB. The chains went bad. Dealer replaced them under warranty, no issues
My 2022 Powerboost makes that same odd rattling sound and really only noticed it when the weather got cooler like below 50.
Speaking of Mike, you should go back to his farm with the danger ranger and jump it
that sounds safe
Agree change oil make it offroader
No such luck with my 2020 f3507.3 gas lol
@ 500 miles valve train #8 cylinder rocker broke and now 25k miles transmission failure to a point it has to be replaced or fixed
@@amibookovza3118 damn bro!!!!!😢
He should try to jump the Allegheny River with the Raptor in remembrance of Robbie Knieval
This is the sound that our Ford FMF expedition made and the same location for us it was the cad, we got it replaced, and the noise was gone. Hope that helps, brother 🙏.
Be nice if the raptor had power running boards, and massaging seats like the other higher trim Ford trucks
Top vlog
Mike, We have the exact same truck
Color and all.... I have one year of ownership and 10k on the odometer and can't say I've experienced that. second day of ownership I got a check engine light lol, turned out to be a bad $50 wire harness in the engine bay. Other than that, she's been good to me......I do average 13.1 mpg's, so
Yeah not great on gas. I do Love her though.
Man you should race all three!!!
Looked like a dumping ground damn. Good content, although I can't afford 125k Raptor R ...looking forward to some good content with the new one
You can’t get a RAPTOR R 125K, more like 150K
@Ken Martin one near me is 125K it was marked up..from 109k
Sounds like shock bearings mike, no sure on US raptors but Fox shocks run bearings instead of bushes. 🤙🏼
The noise with cold start is the Cam Phasers, the dealer has a fix. It's covered under the power train warranty.
All the raptor fan boys said they fixed the cam phaser issues in the third Gen.
The computer chip shortage caused a lot of issues in the Covid year trucks in all companies. My 2021 Lariat had some of those same issues and it’s those crappy computer chips
How much heavier are the wheels/tires you’ve added? I had a 2018 & now a 2020 & over 85k miles between the 2 I averaged 14.8 overall, & that’s w/ getting on it regularly, towing 2 waverunners in the summer a lot, carrying around 2 kids 2 dogs & wife & all their stuff regularly, & they were both tuned….something’s effecting your mpg my bet is it’s the heavier wheel/tire combo & maybe even the level
Thanks for this video. But I think most of the quarks/problems you have had is the usual new model year problems. I have a 22 and used to daily road trip it from Dallas to Lubbock and the only problem it had is the expensive gas haha. But yea I’ve take it off-road at high speed as well and nothing. Excited to see a Raptor R possibly come to the channel!
That rattle in the cold start is the muffle valve. Ford replaced my entire muffler on my gen 3.
I own a Ford f-150 with the 3.5L twin turbo eco boost. Where do I get the ecoBitch lol sticker? I love it! The truck is so fast
I have the GEN three raptor and absolutely love it . ❤❤❤ eco-boost. . I get 14.4 miles per gallon in town and I drive it is there a naturally aspirated V8 that gets that good of mileage pumping out 450 hp and 510 foot pounds of torque? ??
had that same problem, went to start the truck and all i got was that clicking (i was also going to a golf tourney), i threw it on a charger it was fine. I heard it was from an update that was pushed out that left all the utilities on.
3rd issue, check the brake pad hardware clips. If the clips are worn out the pads will rattle & it’s obnoxiously loud. My pads were rattling, replaced the clips & waalaa, back to new. $10 fix for a $1000 sound.
One of the most common symptoms of the 3.5L Ecoboost engine cam phaser problem is the notorious cold start rattle - LPT: before buying a used v6 eco? make sure you hear it start on a cold day, ymmv which fix ford/dealer actually works - the noise/problem usually starts between 30k and 45k miles.
I believe ford fixed the cam phaser issue in 2020. I know the waste gate linkage rattles a little on cold starts but goes away shortly after starting. The linkage doing that doesn't cause any harm.
@@meshuggah921respekt.
Dude your videos are inspirational to me. You give me the hope that one day I will be able to leave Europe, get to America and finally be able to enjoy my car hobby. Things in Europe are getting worse every day. Car tax was bad and now they just passed a law making it higher. Really depressing stuff over here. Gas is more expensive thanks to new laws. Monthly car tax went up. Parking is virtually impossible now.
If you're White we would love to have ya
@@Christoph-sd3zi Which state would you say is the easiest to own a sports car in regarding laws, taxes and so on? Dude a V8 Mustang where I live costs 80K after taxes and then you must pay 500 Euros (because high horsepower) a month every month just in taxes, you still have to pay insurance on top of that.
Gas in Europe is double the price of that in the US too. Its crazy.
I think it sounds cool
The clanking sound on cold start is common to Ford trucks and are nothing to worry about. Its a waste gate making that noose.
The shock issue is a fox issue, mine came with 4 that needed replaced straight from factory
Fox suspension is very maintenance heavy. Any off-road suspension will need rebuilding more often
great truck bu cmaan sema it..bars..leds etc..
the new raptor R is coming out soon!!! with the v8 is coming back hopefully
Awsome looking truck. Seems like ford quality is lacking as of late?
Do you still have the stock tires &rims, if so would you want to sell them ?
Good video review. How do you get $85k price is that after sales tax? I've been wanting to buy a used 2021, but I am not spending $80-90k at the dealer. They want to markup a 2021 with 20-30k miles while that 2 year-old window sticker says $77k delivered. It sucks having to come to the realization that prices have gone up 10-30% on vehicles in the past two years and only the elite will be able to get a new car and all the poor $150k/yr people can only afford used Toyota/Hondas.
This may have been covered (too many comments to sift through) but Ford worked with Nissan for the exhaust and it does come from a GTR. So good catch! Lol
I’m guessing the sound it makes in the winter months on a cold start is the electronic actuators for the turbos morning
The Gen 3 exhaust design was so good for V6 engine that the Raptor R now just a little better sound, so if you place the Rapator R beside TRX you would think the Raptor R sounds like a V6.
The TRX is a superior truck, the interior, screen, and just sound is amazing. Ford followed the jones and went V6. How are you going to sell your top of the line truck with a V6 engine. Nobody who loves trucks wants a V6
19 mpg on highway with my gen2...all stock. On 93 octane
About the same as my v6 Tacoma
I’ve been offered a few gen 3s at msrp. Should I take one until my m2 comes in? Scared of it loosing value in this weird market
I have a 2017 mkz 2.0t. My vehicle makes that exact sound when the battery is drained, and I try and start the car. Once the battery was replaced, everything went back to normal
It might be exhaust rattle, which is a known issue on Gen3. I believe the dealer should know about it. Clunking sound is probably your shock. Also, a known issue on Gen3. Many people got their back shocks replaced.
Why would an exhaust rattle only happen on cold start?
@@josiahwilliams752 i believe it has something to do with some clamps that dealer replaces. I know there is TSB for Exhaust Rattle on Gen3's.
Yeah but wouldn’t be a consistent thing if it were a part that were loose or faulty? 🤷♂️
@Josiah Williams ones warm metal expends, most of the time rattle stops. There was the same issue with Wastegate Rattle on Gen2 Raptors. The Ones truck was warm enough you couldn't hear it.
@@codename7832 but it’s just a clamp
That cold start sound is the oil pump
your catalitic converter is broken for sure, my Ford sounded like rocks bouncing around inside a canister, but it can be a losen catalitic converter shield on some cases as well. The cat will go bad if you have a faulty oxigen sensor, you may connect a computer to the OBD2 port and check the levels of the O2 sensor if the cat is bad, becasue changing the cat without changing the faulty sensor, it will go bad again.
Mike, you need to have a company called Mike’s Customs because you really know how to custom out vehicles. I remember the c63 you had and all the vehicles you have had and put upgrades on them, they look outstanding. Keep up the good work..
That rattling is the cam phasers and they will be going soon.
Cold start sounds I think are related to the CAM Phasers.
I think Mr. AutoVlog has dropped 20 lbs? Looking slimmer brother!
I had the eco boost....I had a 2020 raptor and it was burning oil like crazy....I sold it because of it
All your little issues? That’s why I’m happy w/ my last of the run late build 2020 Gen2, I’ll get a gen3 in 2026 as a last model year too once all the BA kinks are worked out
Man that’s just crappy luck you got literally the top 3 Gen3 issues
1. Exhaust rattle
2. Battery/drain
3. Squeaky shock
What’s up from Destin!
First problem is exhaust rattle , 2nd it does look in the video like you hit hard on the right rear . I’m not making excuses for it but it did look like you hit right rear harder then the rest , so the weight all went on that shock .
I had a front shock go bad on my 2022 pretty much brand new. It’s a known issue
Question i have a 2019 Ford Shelby Baja Raptor was thinking about trading it in on a 2022-2023 Ford Raptor v6 not v8 do you think it worth changes worth trade i love my Shelby. What i like is the New suspense on these truck compare to a gen 2
The hard life of a CZcamsr hahahah...love ya Mike.. keep em coming!!!
That’s those glass pack battery’s mine did same thing
Do a Big Brake kit on this thing
I have a 21 raptor also the noise you hear when you start it is the exhaust valve behind the muffler, mine goes away after it warms up.
Those jeans are so cute!
Waste gates/ link arm on turbo son that's what that cold start sound is
