      +Meat Amigo Taxes are an interesting issue in this business, you definitely need to have a smart accountant and not try to do them yourself, but yeah, one of the benefits of my job is that I can basically write off all car-related expenses as long as they appear as content in our outlets.

    I'm on my 2nd mk2 Focus ST still.. purely because I love the 5 cylinder engine so much. Mine is remapped to approx 280bhp with a DS map and Cobra exhaust, nothing else. The noise it makes makes me smile as much as my V8 TVR.

    In relation to the Focus' crappy turning circle, the RS has been reported to get a quicker steering rack of 13:1 over the ST's 13.7:1 and the lock to lock is 2.5 turns instead of 2.3, so a slight improvement. This is in the Focus RS Technical Presentation video SVT Performance posted in November.

    Matt, the RS has the same turning circle as the Focus ST, 39.3 feet. Or 12 Meters if you want the metric info I got from the EU Supplemental manual. I was hoping it was something they fixed as Focus ST's huge turning radius comes from the changes they made to the steering knuckle. They shortened the steering arm on the knuckles which means that they had to alter the stops so they didn't bind.

      +TheSmokingTire That actually sounds more interesting to me than a GT-R. I've always had a funny feeling that you could build a low boost, low dollar, GT-S and make it a better driver than the GT-Rs. Simplifying the drivetrain to remove the 4WD would make the car lighter, you could lose some of the complications of that entire system, and build up what is effectively an RB powered Silvia, only the chassis was meant to handle a straight six in it's nose.

    • @mattdock7346
      @mattdock7346 Před 8 lety

      Ah, didn't know that the GT-S's (with the exception of the 25) came with the smaller motors. My point was less about what they came like stock, and more just that a non AWD car would be simpler to build and maintain as a street car.

    Had a 2014 Focus ST for a year (didn't much like it) and the range on one tank was appalling, 260 miles per tank if I was nice to it. Average fuel economy with mostly back roads was 24 mpg. Did a track day at Road America and got an average of 8 mpg out of three 30 minute runs and had to put gas it again before making my 3rd run. This is NOT an economy car lol. I took a hard look at Mountune before getting rid of it, but it wasn't to be. To each his own I suppose.

  • @Xmvw2X
    @Xmvw2X Před 8 lety

    On my Subaru I've been happy running E85 and mileage wasn't much of a drop. I'm the 3rd owner, and the car initial came with a 93 octane tune that got 17mpg. It was just an aggressive tune. I backed it off some so I could run 91 octane and redid how it produced boost (DBW throttle, wastegate, boost mapping) and went up to 20mpg. I changed to E85 and went back down to 17mpg, lol. I played with leaning out the cruise range, and that bumps mpg back up some. I never did much, just a half point lean, and I was up to 18.5mpg. I have read some really pushing the lean cruise idea as far as it can go (as lean as you can go before you reach 0 manifold pressure) and getting up into the mid 20s. It'll suck gas if you drive hard, but for daily, you can do a lot with aggressive timing and lean tuning to get the most out of the fuel.
    There are flex fuel kits for a lot of cars now, or you can make your own if you search for a list of parts. Install/build, and you can have it automatically tweak AFRs based on the ethanol percentage the sensor reads. The basic kits do not adjust timing or boost though, just simple AFR fooling. It works for a basic setup. However, if you want to get something that can tweak timing and boost dynamically too, you're looking at aftermarket ECUs to give you the multiple mapping and blending capability. It's all doable.

    Funny they mention the turn radius on the ST. I have a '14 ST and the wife has a '13 SE auto. They definitely widened the radius on the ST because of the close-ratio steering rack they used. However, in the standard Focus the turn radius is just fine. I can make U-turns in the '13 SE much easier than in my ST.

    I cringed when he said hawk HPS pads. I made that product decision for my first brake pad upgrade...What a mistake. I've Never seen a pad fall apart like those even on regular street driving. They can't hold heat for crap and one time started spitting out webs of glue or something when they over heated on a downhill run on Little Tujunga, absolutely ruined my wheels.
    Switched to EBC Reds (then later the yellow's) and the performance difference is night in day...ANDDD CHEAPER.
    I noticed i've been on a barrage of making product suggestions on these videos whenever i here of a bad product i've used before lol. My apologies, I just like to inform others of issues i've had when i come across it.

    • @PrecisionBoost
      @PrecisionBoost Před 8 lety

      With the exception of the brakes being pretty noisy on occasion I've been pleased with them. Accompanied with the RBF 600 fluid the brake feel is really nice and having the noise as a trade off to decreased fade was well worth it to me. Sorry you have had bad experiences with them.

    • @Themayseffect
      @Themayseffect Před 8 lety

      Jason Connor (TerminatorConn)
      I've never had any noise issues which i would say is a plus and a negative. But my car weighs over 3500Ibs with me in it with a 61/39 F/R weight balance so the front pads are just eating it on downhill runs. I don't know what type of driving you do, but when you start to lean on these pads, they just give up the ghost, and i'm not the only one who's had this issue.
      Once i switched to EBC pads i started reading about a host of problems people have reported on forums and dealer reviews about the HPS pads. Yea i would admit they are smooth and quiet in comparison to EBC's, but the EBC red's and yellow's absolutely murder the HPS when it comes to performance per dollar and so far haven't failed me at all even with faster paced driving.

    Got it backwards... running a 91 tune on E40 fuel is safer than running an ethanol tune on 91. The 91 tune will just run rich with E40 in the tank. The E40 tune will knock like crazy on 91 fuel.
    You really do need to run it out of 91 before switching to the ethanol map.

    • @PrecisionBoost
      @PrecisionBoost Před 8 lety

      This car is Protuned by Randy at Mountune specifically for E40. When I run it dry on the Ethanol blend I reset back to my 91 Stage 3 tune.

    • @WTFNoNamesLeft2
      @WTFNoNamesLeft2 Před 8 lety

      Yep. That is the right "direction". I go to e when switching both ways. I recently ran across the flex fuel tunes for the frs with an ethanol sensor wired in. that would be great on the fords.

    • @iBoos1
      @iBoos1 Před 8 lety +1

      +Robert Young not really. running an a 91 tune with ethanol is not good either. Running on Ethanol requires about 30% more volume of fuel than running on 91. So a 91 tune with Ethanol in the tank will leave the car running lean.

    • @WTFNoNamesLeft2
      @WTFNoNamesLeft2 Před 8 lety

      +iBoos true, you are right. Ethanol does tolorate a lot leaner a/f ratio without detonation though. Either way you go you want the fuel light on before swapping unless you have a sensor and tune.

    Ugh, all the comments about "why didn't he go flex fuel" are annoying as piss.
    What part of warrantied daily driver don't you get? Sure, you CAN make it flex fuel, but you're going to have to rip out the ECU in the process voiding the warranty, most likely hindering drivability a bit, and definitely making it fail CARB check (along with any OBD-II scans). The ECU needs to support dual fuel/ignition tables to operate on flex fuel and then on top of that it has to support interpolating them based on an input voltage (flex fuel sensor). The stock ECU can't handle any of this unless it comes flex fuel ready from the factory (in which case it'll have the sensor, too).
    Not just a matter of putting a sensor in...not even a little bit...
    Anyway...
    Pre-mixing E40 like that is a nightmare, I could never do that, app or not.

    • @PrecisionBoost
      @PrecisionBoost Před 8 lety

      You said it all so I didn't have to. Seriously doing an E40 mix is really simple. I was on the same opinion as you from doing that each time at the pump but once you are on the initial blend it's really easy. On the first switch over its still not difficult just making sure the calculator has all the right parameters plugged in.

    • @MrSlowestD16
      @MrSlowestD16 Před 8 lety

      +Jason Connor (TerminatorConn) It has to be more than just the calculator, no? I've never seen an E40 pump, which means even when you have the perfect blend you have to add pre-mixed...which means you gotta get a certain exact number of gallons regular 91, then go to a different pump and get a specific number of gallons E85. Always need to do both or you'll throw off the ratio and it won't be E40 anymore.
      Then God help you if you put too much fuel in towards the top, because you'll never be able to add enough E85 to balance it to E40.

    • @PrecisionBoost
      @PrecisionBoost Před 8 lety

      Calculate how many miles you have left by the calculated MPG's on the dash to give you how much fuel you have in the tank. Plug that number into the calculator and that tells you how much E40 to pump first followed by how much 91. It's really not that hard. The pump I go to by my house has E85 and 91 right next to each other.

    • @MrSlowestD16
      @MrSlowestD16 Před 8 lety

      +Jason Connor (TerminatorConn) Yeah, I get the concept, but that's a pain in the ass, lol. You can make all the claims about it not being difficult, but in the end it's by far the most complicated way to fill up. I couldn't do that, I'd rather just go straight e85 at that point... What's the rationale to use e40 over? More expensive, have to mix each time, still dependent on e85 each fillup...? it's all of the downsides with none of the upsides..

    • @PrecisionBoost

    • @MrSlowestD16
      @MrSlowestD16 Před 8 lety

      +rooboy69 Not really a matter of America or Europe or anywhere else... Sure, since E85 is readily accessible you can do a flex fuel system, but you'd have to do it all by yourself, and that was likely void parts of the warranty. All of the parts installed that mess with the engine management here are approved by Ford to keep warranty. Flex fuel wouldn't. First of all, the OEM PCM most likely doesn't support the dual maps based on flex fuel % input needed, so you'd need an aftermarket ECU, that right there is a huge thing. With a standalone ECU the entire warranty is void but you can then install a flex fuel sensor, yes.
      Is it worth it on a daily driver? Probably not...
