- Clopidogrel is a medication used to prevent clots from building up. In coronary artery disease it can be used following a heart attack or when a stent is placed to treat a blockage. Thanks for info Peter. On Clopidigrel following triple CABG last September. Told I’m on it for life, but aside from bruising, the “cut finger” needs to treated like a war wound! Keep well. Regards from Cornwall UK 👍👍👍👍
Good information Peter, nice to find out more about the medication I have been on since having a coronary stent done in 2014, thank you. I have been told that I'll need to stay on Clopidogrel for the rest of my life.
Since 2008 I have been on double dose aspirin and clopidagrel (150mg daily) as my LAD was totally blocked and stopped approx 1 inch from the heart. I have 4 stents in LAD and 1 in the right and will be on this dosage for life. Very occasionally I have a stomach bleed which has caused iron deficiency aneamia but otherwise everything is ok and still having regular check ups
I have had 5 heart attacks and ablation for AFib. Also have stents in heart, kidney and legs. I take Clopidogrel and Eliquis. So far so good.
i almost bleed to death with aspirine and eliquis. just take clopedigril
@@ax1066a-ghd2 yes and just had another ablation 3 weeks ago (hopefully the last), but since been diagnosed with cancer in breast and lymph nodes. It’s rough. Gods kept me around for a reason. Gets pretty tiring of all the medical issues. Got my port put in last week. Chemo starts next week.
I had a TIA 2 years ago with no internal damage whatever and am still on these supposedly as a preventative measure!
I’ve taken Clopidogrel and Rivaroxaban for two and a half years after a heart attack with clots simultaneously in LAD and CX arteries. They suggested cutting out the Clopidogrel but I said that as they didn’t know the cause of my trouble I’d rather stay on it. I think it may have been caused by an autoimmune disease they’d just diagnosed and the cardiologist couldn’t argue with that.

Thank you I have been on this meds with Asprin as well for many years now .I have 1 stent in my thigh .and 5 stents in my heart .
I just got a 110mm stint and was prescribed this
another stint in on Nov 8 (95% closed)
And I've been calling it Cloppy Dogeral.
I was sixty years old last October. I have had heaviness in lower limbs - diagnosed with Peripheral Vascular Disease, Atherosclerosis and I get dull aching in heart regularly. I was a gym goer. Fit. Then within two years all went down hill. I get SOB. Sweating. Was unable to complete three stress tests last year, early, put on aspirin and clopidrogel. I bruised easily and had nose bleeds lasting for up to an hour. I was stopped Clopidrogel. Still on aspirin and had been told I would likely need stenting. When the cardiac catheterisation was peroformed they said I had 'mild' furring of a left coronary artery and left ventricular cardiomopathy. I am on several meds for blood pressure. It's UK. NHS has gone to hell even though I spent my life working in it. I watch my diet. Exercise as able. Was never actually seen by the Cardiologist. Just GP and nurse specialist in hospital. I felt I had intermittent claudication for some time. A podiatrist confirmed this. But nothing planned to be done. So I just wait for amputations or drop dead ? It is DIS GRACEFUL. I was a nurse and worked in coronary care at times and the level or lack of care now is abominable. I have resigned myself to the fact I will 'kick the bucket' one day. I have lost ALL faith in medical profession. N. Ireland (UK) The Clopidrogel (Plavix) was stopped but no alternative. Just aspirin. Am I being paranoid ?
I am sorry for your experience but I urge you to take the bull by the horn. Thank God you are in the medical profession and live in UK where even the General Physicians work better than many of our countries.
We have saying in Nigeria, "When you say yes, your Chieee also says yes". Chiee is the spiritual being that lives inside us. The meaning is that take up the challenge personally and let the doctors only help and guide

I think you’ve been unlucky. I had heart attack and my wife recently had major valve surgery and we can’t really fault our treatment.
Like many countries you need to be very proactive with your medical conditions and be on top of everything and keep hounding everyone that needs to be looking after your best interest.....I know the ball has been dropped on many people that need medical care....I know of a few people that if they hadn't kept asking for more testing, treatments and second opinions they would have passed by now. Hope you get through this and regain your health for a good quality of life....

All I can suggest (having worked for several years with the NHS too) is that a specialist referral may a good option for you to clarify what is the best long-term treatment for you. I had a stroke about four years ago - I have to take both these and Atorvastatin once a day for the rest of my life!

After experiencing a large clot in my right coronary artery and having 3 stents placed I am on this drug for life. I cut my finger a few weeks ago and it bleed for three days. Guess the med is working.

I had a stent long ago more than 5 years but still taking clopidrogel. Doctor did not ask me to stop at all. It's like a life long medicine. Any comments?
Good question Sam, there isn't a fixed rule for this and the duration of treatment. I often use clopidogrel for longer in patients who may have multiple stents or if the stent is located at blockages that we deem are more complex. These can be stents to the main artery of the heart or in areas where there is a junction / branch point. Clopidogrel may also be suitable for people who may suffer gastric symptoms when they use aspirin so we do use it long term.

Wow a double dose....good to see you are still around and hopefully living a decent quality of life....
Thank you Dave, both aspirin and clopidogrel in combination may be needed longer term but a always try to work on reducing medicines if possible. Please check back with your doctor on the use of double dose clopidogrel, I have not seen any evidence to use such an approach and there may be alternative options that may better work for you.
@@HeartMatters I was proscribed my medication by a professor at London Chest Hospital who specialised in blood and stem cell research and one of the ‘top’ consultants in the country regarding blood and heart research
I took my medication. Then after 10 minutes i had to take a water poop 💩 did my medication leave my body. Or am i safe. Am on clopidogrel. For my stent. Also i started eating Blueberry alot more
I am aortic valve replaced patient. i am taking asprin and acitrom 4 mg since 1 year. recently I am suffering from gout attack, so can i switch to clopidogrel alternative of aspirin? because most of the studies are revealed low dose aspirin can possible to increase the blood uric acid level. I need u r advice....
Our cardiologists here in New York City NY USA where I am treated have stopped prescribing aspirin as if it were a deadly poison! except in rare instances , I imagine because of stomach bleeding I had been on Clopidogrel with "baby aspirin" 80mg for years after drug eluding stent placement , then my cardiologist stopped enteric aspirin for me under new guidelines of usage by our Federal Drug Enforcement Administration. You seem to recommend aspirin quite frequently, perhaps you are prescribing aspirin for your patients under 60 years of age?
Thanks for your feedback, different regulations exist across the world so always best to be guided by your local physicians. There is emerging evidence of studies using 2 medicines including aspirin post stenting and then after a few months stopping the aspirin. These results are encouraging but there is no fixed rule that applies, the decision on whether aspirin is used with clopidogrel is determined by the nature of the blockage and types and location of stents used.
What about the addition of aspirin? It seems this recommendation may be challenged today.
I 'm on this med plus one a day aspirin and a blood thinner, one a day was prescribed by my family Dr. My Cardiologist said if I was to drop one med it should be the one a day aspirin...My family Dr disagrees lol...
My consultant vascular surgeon wouldn’t give me this drug because he said it didn’t work! He gave me
enteric aspirin instead to thin my blood.
Hi Gail, thanks fo your comment, there is a role for various types of medicines used to improve blood flow, both for blockages affecting the arteries of the heart and also for arteries elsewhere in our body e.g. legs/feet. Always worth checking with the specialists about what options may be used to help your particular syndrome.

Could you take this with Hydroxychloroquin… and is it better to take morning or night?
Thank you, morning or night will not make any difference. You would have been prescribed hydroxychloroquine by your doctor and there are people who do take this with added tablets like aspirin and clopidogrel. I usually recommend my patients to also check with their pharmacist who can do a comprehensive review of all their medicines and look for potential interactions.

Very interested,Had a stent one month ago, however now, I'm tormented by tinnitus. Reading the leaflet with the tablets, i see it can be associated with atorastatin and i even see it associated with aspirin . Is this possible side effect or am i extremely unlucky.
thank you Patrick, this is an uncommon side effect but obviously not impossible, as you have observed many medication may list this as an uncommon side effect, always worth chatting with your doctor as there may be alternative formulations or variations of the medicines that may be better tolerated.
I had the gout too but have cured aĺmost the gout dont eat food with high purine google will help if you ask no oily fish or prawns shell fish no peas eat cherries blue berries

That is a good question Marty, it all depends on the particular material that is being vaped and things like nicotine do have an impact on the heart and cardiovascular system.
