  • Yuki Tsunoda left a really bad impression with his stuunt on the cooldown lap of the Bahrain Grand Prix. But was it an immature move?
    As we know, Liam Lawson is going to be in one of the RB seats in 2025, which leaves the two driver currently at the team fighting for their careers - literally driving to survive. So who will come out on top? And who be the driver that Red Bull Racing have to fire?

    My guy... you cannot say Lawson destroyed Tsunoda 1 - 4 in race results when Tsunoda had a DNS and a DNF (neither of which were his fault) in that same time. Furthermore, Lawson was promoted above Yuki in one of the race results due to an arguably unfair penalty. Like... You're being disingenuous when you display those results like that.

      Fair point. I should have kept the clarification in the video (I was trying to make it a succinct video 😅).
      But that’s a key point, however I would still say the Lawson was comprehensively better than Tsunoda in the races. For a rookie who has never been in F1, the fact he was anywhere near is an absolute win.
      I’ll make sure to keep caveats in the next analysis video. Appreciate you bringing out the point. I will pin this 👍🏼

      Yeah not defending Yuki, he had his ups and downs but he mostly got screwed over by strategy last year. Same thing last week, yes he's hot-headed and should've given the position when told so but also the call was stupid to begin with. And people saying that he's just here because of Honda might not be wrong but the same can be said for Ricciardo who's a good figure for sponsors and hasn't proven anything since his "come back" to RB family. Let's just see how the season goes on. I just don't see either driver for 2025.

      Yuki also beat Lawson in quails. Lawson, and one of the quails Lawson won a car blocked Yuki who otherwise would’ve won there too.

      @@jakemorganGP As a Torro Rosso fan I can tell you that you are completely wrong. If you look at the qualifications, Yuki won them all. During the race, Yuki used an unconventional strategy to possibly score points, while Lawson was simply allowed to drive because he was a rookie. If you're not a Torro Rosso or Yuki fan, you won't notice any of this. The only thing you see at the end of the season is the ranking and that's why Yuki was probably "pissed".

    • @jakemorganGP
      @jakemorganGP  Před 2 měsíci +2

      I see your points, but it’s not quite like that.
      Firstly, how could I be wrong about Yuki’s quali advantage that you say he has when I also said that he had this advantage over Lawson (and Danny Ric later in the video)? I agreed with you that Yuki is quick over one lap - but as I said as a caveat, Lawson is a rookie.
      Secondly, regarding the races, I would argue that that logic is similar to saying “Lewis only finished behind Russell in the 2022 championships because Lewis was testing setups.” That’s not a valid excuse. Lewis didn’t have to take on that choice but he did, and he ended up lower in the championship standings for it. At the end of the day, the strategies Yuki was on weren’t *that* crazy and he still ended up behind.
      The conclusive answer was the Japanese GP when they had the chance to go toe-to-toe and Lawson came out on top. Was that from a strategy call? No.
      Lawson conclusively proved his worth, and the point I’m making with those statistics is that, by matching Tsunoda, he has demonstrated that he’s better than Yuki because he’s a rookie and jumped in and performed immediately, and Yuki had been in the car for over 2 seasons and was only matching Liam. He should have blown him out of the water (e.g. compare Leclerc and Bearman at Saudi GP just gone - Leclerc was miles ahead - same situation).
      I appreciate your points, but big picture and long term perspective Liam will be better than Tsunoda once given the time that Yuki has had.
      But thanks for watching. I love having debates like this mate. I hope you stick around, I want to build a community of true F1 fans like yourself.
      Any thoughts on what I’ve said? 🙌🏼

  • @LeJimster
    @LeJimster Před 2 měsíci +3

    Yuki is naturally faster than Ricciardo at this stage of their careers. Aside a few bogey tracks and 1 off wonder performances from Ricciardo.. The main thing letting Tsunoda down is poor strategy from the team.
    It's really sad. When Ricciardo went to McLaren I was confident he would destroy Lando Norris.. It didn't happen, he defo lost his edge somewhere and I'm not convinced the old Ricciardo is back since his return to the Red Bull family. There is still time for him to prove me wrong.. But he's once again been taken to the cleaners by Yuki in Saudi qualifying..

      Great point. I honestly didn’t consider that angle but it’s a massive factor as well. I also think that the point of Red Bull needing drivers that match the brand image of an energy drinks company is huge. Danny Ric has that larger than life energy which is a huge marketing asset for the main team. Great point!

    In F1-racing there is always this dilemma; Best Driver vs Preferred driver. The first is more technical based and the second more emotional. At time moment in time, it's too early to tell which one will survive and upgrade to the higher seat. Our opinion is, let them race fairly against each other without team orders. The team order in Bahrain was overkill actually. Both were out of the points. So, it was nice to see Yuki not letting that influence him negatively and performing better in Jeddah. That's how it should be and let the better performing driver move up, whoever that may be.

    Ricciardo being so close and even a little ahead of tsunoda from the jump, after like half a year with no racing, and then again after the broken hand was seriously impressive imo. Being a danny fan the mclaren years left me with little expectations, but seeing the glimpses of what happened in the 7 races that he was in really restored my confidence in him. For him to come out on top in the 7 races especially considering the appauling luck he had in some of those grand prix, i think indicates he'll comprehensively beat yuki this year. Just for a reference as to his bad luck last year:
    Hungary: Punted by zhou lap 1, 20 seconds behind the pack, recovered to finish ahead of yuki.
    Spa: unlucky qualifying with track limits, but their quali and finishing positions for the sprint and the race were directly opposing, even the positions from dnf's were identical.
    Zandvoort: Broke his hand lmao
    Austin: Running yuki's setup, had a giant piece of debris in his front wing just after closing up to the back of yuki, wouldve passed ocon for another position given another lap, decent performance considering he wasnt driving on his own setup, yuki finished outside the points on track but the dsq's gave him p10 - skewed the points h2h.
    Mexico: Self-explanatory, banging drive.
    Brazil: hit by flying tyre, put a lap down, was the 3rd fastest man on track behind verstappen and norris, wouldve finished in points ahead of yuki if not classified a lap down.
    Vegas: tough race, the car struggled with tyre warm up, but nothing really too bad
    Abu Dhabi: Tear-off in brake duct, had to pit on lap 7, cooling issues for a significant part of the race, compromised strategy when an overcut was really strong, still only finished just outside the points and not too far behind yuki on track.
    So...if daniel can have a smooth time, i think he absolutely wipes the floor with yuki, but daniel has some of the worst luck in modern f1, so lets wait and see.
    btw, awesome content, keep it up its really high quality!
