They’re gonna lose Liam like Alpine lost Piastri. And they’ll really regret that move.
He’s still under contract - piastris contract ran out and I’m 100% certain he will drive on 2025
I don't think so. I don't think there is a way out of his contract for 2024. And where should he go then? His chances at a seat for 2025 are biggest if he stays with them.
@@SiegfriedDerDrachentoter people buy out contracts all the time
@@Custom2udonext world champion is he?
You've got no Idea how this works
Why don't we...
- Get Liam Lawson and Yuki at Alpha Tauri
- Instead put Thicc Ric next to Max
- Fire the Windowlicker from Aston Martin and...
- Put Perez there as a proper teammate for Alonso?
I know, I know, it'll be far more realistic Lawson will be loaned to Williams to replace Sergeant Logan, but Stroll Junior has had more than enough years to show what he's got. And frankly, I don't think there's a whole lot more to come in the future. So, with regards to all the talent waiting to get a seat, I'd simply boot the guy immediately.
it's far too risky to throw Riccardo straight into the slammer after a obe year break and two races in a midfield car, don't you think? What you described is probably going to be 2025's contract situation, after Perez runs his time with RB down. It doesnt have to happen immediately.
Stroll can drive seemingly well in a backmarker/Midfield Car. But as soon as the Car is good enough to fight for Podiums every Race, his little bit of talent went MIA.
Yuki needs to go, he's been barelly good enough in all his years, only staying beceause lack of promising junior drivers. next year he'll be gone and never signed again
@@bruhmoment2088 You're probably right. I mean, Stroll Junior is never ever going to be fired for next season. It was mostly wishful thinking to begin with :)
We can't have that sort of sound logic here! This is the *Silly* Season for a reason.
todays crash might actually twist Vowles arm into giving Red Bull a call to bring in Lawson next season
The man is pretty stubborn. He rejected Toto's pandering to bring in Mick Schumacher. But I can understand why he did that given the German's well... Smashing reputation. Lawson on the other hand, has already proven he can finish races in a car he is unfamiliar with without it disintegrating into carbon fibre, whilst also managing to beat a multiple world champion fair and square in the junior team. Not to mention his exploits in DTM (where he won in 2021 I don't care what the record books say he was robbed) and a stellar debut season in Super Formula. He would be the prefect option for Williams future if they want to challenge for driver's titles in the next few years.
For real, if money isn't an issue for Williams, they'd be insane to not sign him.
Some say Vowles just got an email from Brackley about some young, talented German driver
Not gonna happen...
@@Recuch I think that Williams can't afford to have Mick as a driver.. The dude costs money :D
1 year at Williams could become 2 while waiting for RB/AT to sort out what they want to do.
Albon and Lawson worked so well together at DTM i think Williams would move forward a lot quicker than just hoping Sargent works it out. Or maybe I want to see the Albon/Lawson bromance rekindled
Tbh, it's with Williams that has allowed Albon so shine!
it would be good, if sargent get fired, Williams could look after Liam, but there are rumours that Williams is looking for Drugovich if sargent doesnt work it out
agree
Came here to say this :)
I cant see Williams taking on a driver promised to another team and basically training and developing him for them, for free essentially.
Ricciardo PR is worth more than his driving at this point.
He's not even that funny, he's just goofy and has a stupid laugh. Plenty of funnier drivers on the grid
Yuki has talked incredibly highly of his development skills, and I wonder if redbull want to make sure that AT don't totally mess up the development of the RB19 next year.
Danny didn't even get to drive new upgrades u guys still making assumptions
@@BabyIshii To me that says less about his driving, and more about how much he is worth PR wise for AT. Driver quality isn't really the #1 value for AT. I guess I'm mostly sort of agreeing only in the context of Adidas Hugo Boss Bull Balls Racing.
Also was faster than Tsunoda in his first race back…
With Sargent doing his upmost not to keep his seat at Williams, it’ll be interesting to see Lawson in the Williams.
Don't forget Liam overtook Max in Zandvoort...
It takes some big balls to do that in your first ever race in tricky conditions
Liam’s hair is on fleek. It alone deserves a driver seat. 🇳🇿
Yes. It does look ridiculous...
@@reinier123nice flag.
Who says "on fleek" anymore? For that alone, Lawson doesn't get a seat. 🤣
The problem is how quick they made that decision, they didn't wait for the end of the season to eventually make a choice, it's unexplainable why they didn't wait to see gow Yuki would perform after, how Ric would perform on his return and how Liam would be performing in Suzuka.
They wanted to remove the rumours and speculation
@@MattEdmonds they say next year it will be this years redbull
F1 star Daniel Ricciardo reportedly clocked some sensational pace in his Red Bull tyre test. His best lap in Tuesday's Pirelli tyre test would have been enough to qualify him in P2 for last weekend's F1 British Grand Prix
Lawson was a fill-in, so highly unlikely to be replacing Ric or Yuki. People just need to take a deep breath here.
@@MattEdmonds Yeah well, see what Lawson just did? He brought an awesome fight on Tsunoda, and even won at first, I don't know what he need to do to prove he deserves a chance.
Btw can we talk about Perez not being fucking able to do a clean overtake for the last two races. Like for me, with the 2 AlphaTauri seats there's also one more seat in RedBull that isn't greatly filled for the moment...
1:24 "Oscar Pastry" 😂 God i didn't see that one coming 😆
with AT becoming their own thing next year i understand keeping danny around as a good and consistent driver, but it’s extremely frustrating seeing liam not get a seat when he’s definitely proved it, if i’m liam im finding work else where since this is the third time he has been denied a seat
Actually AT next year will go back at being fully a Red Bull B. The name will change again, we still dont know what is the new name.
And even with that, Danny still is the best market weapon for them.
@@BoliveiraNTPW yeah agreed
Daniel a good and consistent driver? come on! XD
I'm guessing next year, either Checo or Danny Ric will be fired mid way & Lawson gets the seat.
@@ffffff52GFY 🤡
Considering Oscar just got his first F1 podium and Lawson got points in his 3rd race, it makes even more sense why De Vries was dropped. And with Daniel being a PR's dream, its no wonder he was given the seat over Lawson. If anything, Yuki was being tested this season and he's done alright.
Lawson and Piastri are ALREADY quicker than Thicc Ricc - so exactly how is Dopey Dan a "PR dream" - the guy is chopped liver at this point - washed up.
But "doing okay" should not be enough for that seat. They are trying to find the next Red Bull driver and Yuki is not that
@@Rakettivuori And Riccardo is definitely not that - he wasnt even good enough 5 years ago and he has declined badly since then
@@emelle1283 very true! But I see his value as the PR team's dream as the deciding factor. I don't see Yuki having anywhere near as much value in any aspect
@@Rakettivuori PR team? Wtf are you talking about he is the driver not the PR executive
I'd love to have 2 Aussies and a Kiwi on the grid. I think the biggest loser in all these shenanigans is Perez. Lawson has put a decent performance in as a sub for Danny Ricc, Danny Ricc obviously proved he's very quick in the RB car and has done decent in the AT. Yuki has been solid since joining the team. There are 3 potential F1 blooded candidates to take his seat. I think the contract extension for Daniel was done to put more pressure on Perez.
Seriously, Checo needs to find some serious form, or somebody will take his seat. I wouldn't put it past Marko to put Lawson in the RB either, give him a sink or swim opportunity.

I think Checo's days are numbered though.
@@gianni_schicchi
Not really, Tsunoda is pretty much level with the Alpha Tauri’s pace, they are now 7th fastest on the grid
And remember they have the superior engine that Red Bull have
Not to mention being challenged immediately by both Ricciardo and a complete rookie
Today checo was absolutely abysmal. Worst drive I've seen by anyone for a while
I don’t feel too bad for Liam. Most other teams on the grid are aware of his talents now 👍
How many other teams are looking for replacements? The only ones I can think of are Haas, Alfa Romeo, possibly Williams, and possibly possibly Aston Martin if they finally decide to kick out Stroll.
To me this is the obvious plan redbull are pulling. This next year is a battle between Yuki and Daniel for the seat as there’s no way they keep Perez past his contrast. They then give Liam the 2025 seat in alpha if he continues to develop well and then possibly drops whichever driver doesn’t make RB seat and gets another youth driver, I’d like it to be pourchaire if he isn’t pick up.
I don't ever see yuki getting that RB seat tbh.
@@Chris-nw6ws tbh same, I know people have raced on about him this season, I don’t see it
Yuki is not getting that 2nd RedBull seat, he's a Honda driver, and they're going with Aston Martin, there are rumors of Aston taking him as reserve. He's also not good and/or mature enough to deal with the pressure of the RB team and Marko and Horner know it because they had to intervene when Yuki was whining and insulting everyone each weekend in his first season, they told him to calm tf down or he would be sacked. If Perez can barely deal with it, Yuki is going to fall to pieces...🤷♂️
Daniel to RB could happen sooner than 2025. They could drop Perez if he keeps imploding.
@@Chris-nw6wsYeah he almost lost the AT drive for next year until Honda stepped in if that’s not a sign he’s not rated by Red Bull like that idk what is

They were teammates and were closely matched int the standings in F2
Liam Lawson's only chance would be to take Sargeant's seat in Williams. After 2024 it's going to be an uphill fight to get a seat, probably close to impossible. There's still Ayumu Iwasa and Theo Pourchaire, both of which were at some point linked to get an F1 seat at some point earlier this year. Felipe Drugovich and Mick Schumacher are also around. Feels like 2024 could be the end of the line for a lot of F1 prospects if nothing big happens. It's just frustrating sometimes to think about how many drivers' careers get screwed over due to circumstances. I won't be surprised if Liam is looking for other ways to extend his racing career outside of F1 and maybe distant from Red Bull. I can't blame him if he's silently cursing the higher-ups with how bad is career his being put on a holding pattern.
Mick Schumacher will be very very lucky to ever get a seat again.
Yes a lot of drivers who having the potential to be in F1 are now in endurance prototype and GT or Formula E, Super formula, Indycar and Liam will be one of them I think
2025 Yuki moves to AM as the RB/Honda partnership sunsets. Lance Stroll to retire after the 2024 season, because after 8 seasons daddy stroll is going to find it impossible to justify keeping his poorly performing son in that seat to his financial partners. Liam 2025 in an Alpha Tauri or whatever it's called at that point.
Also, unless he has a massive turnaround for the finish of this season & next Perez will be out at RB for '25. That'd leave 2 available seats in the "RB Family" for '25.
@@Warhaawk It's really unfortunate with the "daddy's cash" situation in AM, Stroll is just getting smashed by his teammates and in interviews, he doesn't even seem to care. Someone else deserves that spot to try to shine.
@@RA1KU The screwed up thing is that the last couple of years I feel more & more bad for Lance as it looks like it's really all about daddy living his dreams through his son, no matter what his son wants. It'd be bad enough if it was about daddy buying Lance dreams for him, but instead it's been about daddy buying his own dream vicariously through his son and at the expense of F1 fans.
As an American I hate to say this. Sargent out Lawson in for Williams
I think the biggest problem for Lawson is that he didn't make an impression in the feeder series until this year. Last year he almost got beat by a rookie Sargeant in F2 (who had terrible unreliability) in his second F2 season in a stable team and was always in the shadow of Vips (until the unthinkable happened) and Iwasa who is still impressing. He did enough to stay in the RedBull family but not enough to make a claim for that AlphaTauri seat.
This year, I think he has taken a good step up. I know he should be dominating Super Formula (being the most experienced driver there) and being P2 well... isn't really dominance, but I think he's done enough to be in contention. I think if he wins Super Formula, he deserves to be 3rd driver in RedBull or get the Williams seat.
With all that said, I don't think its fair to compare his performance to Ricciardo since the AlphaTauri is no longer a plum last back-marker but capable of scoring points on occasion. I don't think his pace or craft is anything spectacular (somewhat comparable to Zhou or Sargeant) but his consistency is impressive. The issue lies if AlphaTauri is looking for a driver who can keep it clean or someone who can close those tight margins and extract the most out of the car. For the former I don't see anything wrong with Lawson but for the latter I'd pick a more experienced driver like Ricciardo.
isnt his team mate in superformula super experienced having won the series multiple times and is the guy ahead of him by a few points?
Lawson should have won the DTM championship. The biggest issue is RB were putting him in multiple series instead of letting him focus on the one. And even in the f2 season he still beat his teammate
Very well written
@@KayneWalshNZ Yeah 100% + home advantage but the wealth of experience Liam gained from multiple series in multiple environments should propel him like it did Nick Cassidy (another talented Kiwi)

It wouldn't be a bad move, as he's already shown that he can handle the car and bring it to the finish line, 3 races and is pretty much on par with Yuki. The kid can clearly drive, unlike Sargeant...
I know it’s been the trend lately, but, why must we always jump to the conclusion that, whenever a reserve driver gets called to do his job as reserve driver, he must always then get a seat immediately afterwards? I get that Liam did well and is a good driver, but he’s just doing his job as reserve well. It’s a good audition for sure, but let’s not be hasty. AT was always gonna keep Danny, and they seem very comfortable with Yuki. Give it a bit more time and he’ll find a seat. I hope he gets the Williams seat, but I don’t think it’s a super injustice if he doesn’t.
Re-signing Danny makes no sense. He left RB on his own, left Renault, and did not find any success in mclaren. Alpha tauri doesn’t have a good enough car for Riccardo to outdrive it, and let’s face it he’s not Alonso. It’s a cash grab and a complete waste of young talent.

I expected Alpha Tauri to wait until the end of the season, see if Lawson performs, if he does, he gets a seat, if he doesn't, well, Ricciardo it is. Or Yuki. They both have their pros and cons.
Yuki will stay as long as Honda helps with the RBPT engine. No way they would stay without a Japanese driver in one of their cars. The moment AT switches to another engine, he might be gone.
Alphatauri this year is the definition of wasting careers
Not entirely sure about that. I mean Nyck? Give me a break...

Great video Josh, as always. It's a little bit of a shame though that we won't get the all-Antipodean lineup of Ricciardo/Lawson though :)
Fun Fact: The lastvtime a team used this many drivers in 1 year was Andrea Moda in 1992!
Glad Daniel gets the drive Im a fan. and when (not if) Liam gets his shot i will be backing him too, I also love Yuki such a character.
"And... fan... fiction?!"
My sides 😂😂
At the end, I know you said "Fire Max" as a sort of sarcastic jab... but...
Ironically, I think that would actually solve a LOT of the problems going on with Red Bull's/Alpha Tauri's driver market.
Because of how good Max is, Marko seems to think that EVERY driver should be on Max's level, otherwise they're not worthy of a drive.
If you take Max out of the equation, that lowers the expectation bar by a considerable margin and basically fixes the whole problem.
You don't have these instances of drivers good enough for a race seat getting hung out to dry whenever Marko gets cold feet, instead of him favouring some weird master plan that we as the audience already know is ultimately going to fail spectacularly BECAUSE of Max's talent.
It's one thing to jump into a car someone else has developed. It's another thing to develop a car, provide feedback, find different set ups.
Lawson got a car Yuki had developed all season, along with some of the best sprinkles of feedback from Danny Ric, who was just about to reap the rewards for it.
Liam was lucky that
①Danny got injured
②He inherited a car that was on the up in terms of development
③His teammate was forced to DNF on his first 2 races
DeVries was stellar in his debut also. But we all know how that went...😅
You do know he's been doing that the whole time and has raced in other sports too.
I like what Scott McLaughlin suggested doing: Drop Checo, Ricciardo to partner Verstappen, Lawson to partner Tsunoda.
Where did you here this comment
Ricciardo first needs to prove himself... 🙄 Imagine you put him in the 2nd RedBull right now and he goes full retardo like he did at McLaren.
Dropping Perez and replacing him with Ricciardo, and Liam joining Alpha Tauri had been the plan all along.
In fact Liam should've gotten that Alpha seat this year, instead of De Vries, but he was busy in Super Formula. Now he's guaranteed for 2025, replacing Yuki probably.
That “overtake my heart” book is wild 😂
I think 2025 is good tho because the few thing that will happen , I believe Yuki will either stay or Move to Aston with Honda Relation , and Before anyone said He doesnt deserve that seat , Had it not been for the fact that Yuki luck is so awful , I would say Yuki prolly gotten more point

Sargeant's crashing is putting him into the "talented but expensive" zone that doomed Mick. I think Lawson may still have a shot there
Both are mid and sargeant is just USA pr merchant riding Williams seat freely.
He's merely expensive. Talented? Consistently qualifying dead last while Albon makes Q2 and sometimes Q3?
Another interesting perspective, Josh. I really appreciate your not being homeboy-biased and staying spicy. 🙂
Lawson's has truly performed recently, and while it's been rather stellar, at the end of the day he's doing what he's been contracted for in the first place - fully meeting expectations. The cries of outrage for him not being promoted immediately into the seat he filled are well felt, but not realistic. It's clear that when 8-time race winner Danny Ric is ready, he gets back in the seat green-lit for the rest of the season full-stop.
In the bigger picture, Helmut knows that Liam will have his his hands full with the Super Formula finale anyway. You just know that event is going to enjoy a *massive* bump in attention & viewership due to Lawson's presence. Perhaps you could bring us a preview piece on the series, event and who the contenders are going in? It's exciting to think there might be yet other gems revealed if his competition brings their A-game. Let's look for Marko's fingerprints in the driver line up; there is long-game afoot...
Danny won his 8 races many years ago. In his last three years with Renault and McLaren he was an unmitigated disaster.

If Ric does not score on the remaining races, he is done.

Daniel's neck is about half the size of Yuki's torso....😅
Patience Liam, you're gonna be in that come next February, when Danny replaces checo
It was the right decision. Liam showed his performance with an abysmal qualifying in Japan. He is not going to take Alpha to the next level.
Checo was pissed at Helmut Marko and said “Fuck your AlphaTauri” 😂 In Singapore 🇸🇬
I’m honestly really hoping that AlphaTauri find a way to get back up to the front and get away from the control of red bull
I think they will sink harder than a pack of bricks poured in concrete if they part ways with Red Bull. They save a lot on development costs and resources, including things like drivers who are most likely more tied to the Red Bull family, rather than AT
that's what they tried though, since 2022 they've mostly had autonomy over everything except drivers... and we're seeng how well that's going, with how shockingky bad their car has become. If they leave, they really will be better off changing names to Minardi. it'll be a nice throwback when they're lapped 3 times.
that's what they've been trying since 2022 and look what's happened. they already said they're gonna start using lots of redbull parts again
Just copy the red bull already. I mean why have drivers struggle in a shitty car when you can save money and attract better drivers?
Nah, that doesn't happen
That would be funny, and even quite charming to be honest, to see AlphaTauri revert to Scuderia Minardi. I know, it's impossible in every single way, but I thought at first glance that the Buzzin Corner in Suzuka was a Jordan hommage, so... :P
And for Lawson, well, the only way up for him is going all in for a Williams seat in 2024, as there will be too much academy drivers possibly ready for a 2025 run in AlphaTauri, Hadjar being the hotshot for now.
Checo's trying to keep his seat safe by getting rid of Lawson's other competition, lol.
the funny thing with this whole ordeal is that it resulted in De Vries becoming a Masshole
Liam deserves a seat. If Williams offer him the seat then he really should just leave the Red Bull Academy. He has done more than enough to get a seat at Alpha Tauri next year but if they won’t give him that, he should leave
He's guaranteed a seat in 2025, and a loan deal at Williams in 2024 might be on the cards. Better for him to be patient.
Why would he leave Red Bull for that trash team??? 🤣
He already has a seat for 2025, they just need Ricciardo's help at Alpha Tauri and in the meantime he proves himself to hopefully replace Perez.
Yuki will be let go with Honda and Liam will take his seat.
why should he leave the RB academy? You act like rb has been unfair to him lol. Or why would RB let him leave. I would be very surprised if he doesn't get a seat at AT for 2025
Ricciardo is there to benchmark Yuki and Checo, we all know this, Checo is on thin ice next year and may get a mid-season boot for Danny to move up. Danny moves up, Lawson slots in, all is right in the world.
This 👍
Everybody talking about Lawson is acting like they didn’t just make an almost identical mistake with De Vries
Arthur catching stray shots 😭😭
I think Lawson is very likely to be in by 2025. Horner pretty much stated that Lawson is going to be signed for 2025. When asked about Lawson going Williams he stated that Williams wouldn't want a driver for one year.
Either Checo, Ricciardo, or Yuki will be dropped in 2024 and Lawson will take that Alpha Tauri seat.
I would not take that words for granted.
However I would hope for him to have a seat next year.
We may need to see some careers end before guys like Lawson get a real chance.
@@hagamapama I personally think Checo is retiring in 2024. He's not going back to the midfield after being at RB.
Daniel Ricciardo is the best driver of the 3. Despite all the casuals saying he's washed, he's not hence the reason why Red Bull are backing him hard again. They are getting him ready to replace Checo for 2025.
Great call, fire the guy who helped you win two Constructors titles in a row and give his seat to the one who was terminated a year earlier because he couldn't finish one half decent race.
@@ernestogasulla7763 Daniel isn't suited to the McLaren, just like Checo can't maximize the red bull. But the thing is Daniel can maximize the red bull it's perfect for his driving style.

Last RD Kiwi failed, Marko is smart 👍
As long as Yuki got his spot idgaf, he did well this year and it would've been tragic had he not been on the grid for 2024.
idk... has he improved? yes. Has he made any mayor mistakes this season? not really. Will he ever get to a level were he can get promoted to RB? Nope. the fact that a rookie can challenge him while he is on his 3rd year on the same team speaks volumes.
I'll put it this way, as a guy who grew up in Perth, Danny Ric is one of the 2 things that make people remember we exist.
Ill "one up you" by saying, Racing him at the Tiger Kart Club down Cockburn way in the 90s makes me a staunch backer of the Badger. lol I even have a rookies season points standing, listing me as beating him, hahahaha. (it was an anomaly as he usually raced Wanneroo) but he was fuckin quick and just a little bit better then me..... only a little of course 😂😂😂
What is the other thing?
This is a smart move that show RB's academy is full of talent (except PZ) and to remind whom on the hot seats that they better to behave and fast.
I knew you'd have a little tantrum at this. RB obviously see less in Lawson then they did in de Vries. Imagine that 😂
No they don't, he's got a seat guaranteed for 2025.
They just can't sack Yuki because of Honda and they can't sack Ricciardo because they need a replacement for Perez. So Liam will have to wait a little...
This will be a fun one, Liam being Kiwi and all.
I see it as the Alpha Tauri was directionless and ever since Daniel came in it improved a lot. Liam has done a fantastic job in subbing, Yuki has also done well. You can see how important Daniel is because he is taking on an engineer role during recovery. I can imagine soon as they can they will either put Yuki or Daniel into the 2nd RedBull and Liam will get his chance. Checho is failing to keep up now. So if people sayDaniel failed against Norris, then they cannot say Checho has done well against Max. I can actually see Yuki's driving style suiting the RedBull, he has a lot of flair which would make him be able to handle the light backend of the main car. I still think Silly season is going to throw a couple more surprises.
Yuki is not getting that seat, he's a Honda driver and will be let go with them to Aston. That's why they brought back Ricciardo, because they didn't have anyone else to replace Perez...
Nice joke. Ricciardo is thrashed by norris and wonder how this guy gets a seat again. Yuki gonna fck him next year.
You think the AT improved over a couple of weeks because of Danny Ric??
@@scottmeredith3359 these middicardo fans are delusional
If you think AT "improved" because of a couple races with the ex driver who was dropped by McLaren a year before his contract, you're beyond delusional.
Lawson created that by himself.
Nobody told him to hold up Max in Singapore.
As soon as the contract between Honda and Red Bull is done, Yuki is out
I feel like this is crazy hyperbolic. AlphaTauri did exactly what i feel like every one expected them to do after the devries arc.
While yes he did not have Yuki to benchmark against, I think it's fair to benchmark him against another rookie, Logan Sargeant. The AT is a worse car than the Williams this year. Lawson has had three races without any major incident and brought home points, has the highest finishing position of any AT driver this year and is one point behind his team mate.
Sargeant has entered fifteen races, had several significant incidents and has not scored a single point, leaving him 21 points behind his team mate.
I think that is a pretty fair benchmark performance.
kinda funny how the opinions shifted, before everybody always told me that Logan is much better
@@_qwe_fk_1700 Not gonna lie but I do not follow F2 that closely so when most of these guys come up to F1 I am fairly open to them as far as performance go. Yes I know who has won the championship and yes I see all the online chatter, but I prefer to make my own opinion based on how they perform in F1 as there has always been a huge disparity between junior formula and F1 for some guys. Even going back to the 80s there have been guys who set the lower formula on fire and tanked in F1 (also include other series in that such as Indy Car).
I just prefer them to do their talking on the track in F1.
Sargeant has yet to impress me. Lawson has though.
fancy that, it seems like being a long time reserve driver helps the transition to f1
I would have preferred Lawson and Yuki, but Ricciardo has slithered his way back into that team and looks set to return to RBR in 2025 with the way things are trending. Everyone is impressed with Lawson right now, but fans and media in F1 have such a short memory I worry he will be overlooked once again even if a slot does open up in 2025 😒
Lawson being a driver for AT would not be allowed to test the RB in free practice runs. As a test driver he can. Based on his current performance, I see Perez being replaced by Liam rather than Daniel. Unless Daniel destroys Yuki in the AT, but I highly doubt that.
We do not know Daniel's contract, but putting him back in the seat at AT may be RB's way to fulfill some of the agreements before booting him.
I think they (or just Helmut Marco :D) got burned the last time they overestimated the skill level of a reserve driver, and don't want to repeat that mistake. If they knew that Ricciardo is in good shape, I think they might have ditched Tsunoda, but since they're unsure about Ricciardo, Tsunoda is the only driver they're sure about, knowing what he will deliver in the car.
They're not sure about Yuki, they just can't sack him because he's there at the request of Honda. Once Honda leaves, Yuki will follow...
Liam has a seat guaranteed for 2025 when it'll be available.
@@deerlord2363 source: trust me bro
@@cy9nvs Are you aware that Honda is leaving Red Bull and Tsunoda is a Honda driver, right? Therefore there is no way in hell Marko or Horner give him that 2nd seat. He's also not good enough, that's why they had to being back Daniel, because they didn't have any other young prospect that could replace Perez.
Also, Horner just recently said that Williams wouldn't want a driver (Liam) for just 1 year. Because they clearly have a deal with him for 2025 when Yuki leaves... In fact if Liam wasn't busy with Super Formula, he would be already in F1, instead of De Vries and Riccardo.
@@deerlord2363 I know all that, but where's the evidence that Alpha Tauri is obliged to give Tsunoda a contract for the duration that Honda supplies it's engines? I'm pretty sure they could've gotten rid of him, if they wanted to.
chill guys! He is the reserve driver. his job is to drive the car when danny can't & leave when danny can. simple!
Oh god, laughing way too hard at that Cap Anson joke.
For years I’ve been saying Liam Lawson is one heck of a talent. It’s such a shame and I hope he get picked up by someone else. Unfortunately there are not many options out there and not a lot of backing for Liam
Lawson > Tsunoda in terms of talent, took Tsunoda almost a full season to get even close to his teammate
Liam's best bet is with Red Bull, no other team will back him like they have, and he's guaranteed for 2025.
But Red Bull still needs Yuki there because of their deal with Honda, so they can't fire him yet.
And they need Ricciardo to help the Alpha team and prove himself to replace Perez.
Liam will have his chance, he knows that, just have to be patient...
yeah kinda funny how when a few months ago you said Liam should be at AT, nearly everybody disagree it and no everybody acts like it has been super clear since the beginning
Silly decision picking Ric over Liam.
Sure is...
Props to you for knowing who Cap Anson is
Out-qualifying both Red Bulls was a pretty Chad move.
Liam is a really great driver. I'm so impressed with his performance. Sad to see he won't have a seat in 2024
Daniel was the biggest mistake they made and that's the saddest part about F1 and how drivers not only have to be good racers, but great marketing assets. From a business perspective I get it, but gawd damn you got to boot him for Liam.
I just don't get the obsession with Ricciardo. It's time for Liam!

Ah, Josh, you always crack me up. 🤣
As for that "holy mess" at Red Bull I'm inclined to put the blame firmly on (the now untouchable) Christian Horner. Him flipping the finger at and all but giving the boot to Helmut Marko at RBR with signing an outsider to "partner" with Max effectively blocked the traditional "move up" route for Red Bull's junior drivers. Had Marko have his way, Alex Albon would probably be still driving that car.
In fairness, that traditional path was not working for RBR. Verstappen was being Verstappen but Mercedes were still coming away with the championships because they had two professional drivers. The talent pipeline wasn't yielding a competent counterpart for Max, so they brought in Checo and it worked. Of course that put Alpha Tauri under the spotlight because now they're not quite necessary. What we're seeing now is RBR trying to figure out just exactly what the hell to do with an unneeded junior team since Max will be Max for the rest of his career and there are plenty of outside candidates to fill the second role..
@@hagamapama Well, being in the position of the chaser is quite different from the dilemma RBR is facing now, being the hunted. And it wasn't exactly "they" who brought in Checo, this was very much Christian Horner "flying solo", acting against Marko's expressed wishes, he truly believed in Albon. As for potential "outside candidates", I just posted this elsewhere:
Assuming Christian Horner's main goal is maintaining RBR's dominance, he'd want an experienced driver, good enough to take points away from potential rivals but with no serious title ambitions of their own, willing to play "second fiddle" to Max and indeed good "marketability" (quite important for the "Umbrella Corporation" with their whole F1 exercise being all about "brand awareness"). Right now I see only four, more or less realistic, candidates for that second Red Bull seat in 2025, matching those requirements: Sergio Pérez, Daniel Ricciardo, Niko Huelkenberg and Sebastian Vettel.
All of them "have what it takes" and at this point in their careers they're more than happy with a bunch of podiums (looking at you, Niko) and the odd race win, which is a helluvalot better than being listed under "also-ran" with a "shyte team". ;)
With Sergio they know what they have. I'd put a little "?" over Danny and his "ambitions". Niko is the least "marketable". And Seb? Probably just a phone call away from going "full circle".
Of course, all of this goes out the window if Red Bull get beaten in 2024 and find themselves in a chasing position and phase of rebuilding again... then, and only then, it's time for their youngsters to shine again.
I think the Yuki Daniel paring is more about economics than competitiveness. Yuki has Honda backing and Japanese sales/sponsorships. Ricardo has many followers and is an attraction on his own at events. Both are more popular than good. Both are beloved drivers that make them marketable. So, it isn't about the best drivers but the more marketable drivers. Red Bull is known for a quick hook with its drivers, yet three years on there's Yuki with fewer points than dunce cap. Yuki's talent is great, but his skill cap appears to be where he was last year and this year. It has also been a running thing that Yuki is not a hard worker and has to be pushed to visit the gym or watch tape. Daniel has shown at his best he can only drive a car specifically build around his driving style and he is not a good enough driver to justify designing a car around his driving style. And, that IF he even still has more 'it factor' than he's not shown since 2016 buried deep in there someplace in the most specific car.
I wonder if Red Bull wants AlphaTauri to be as profitable as possible while never actually challenging the main titular team. They want a team that is a top midfielder but not one that could supplant Red Bull as a top team.
Now to a couple of your points: What has Yuki don't to lose his seat? Well let me ask after nearly three years in F1 what has he don't to keep his seat? His only real improvement is he crashes less than he did as a rookie. Daniel has not been a top level driver since before Covid. He is affable and is one of the best interviews ever but his time at Alpine is best described as 'workman like' or 'journeyman'ish'. His time at McLaren showed he isn't adaptable and is no longer among the top drivers. I'm sure he is still a decent second seat midfield driver but I do not think he's any improvement over Checo.
No, Lawson has not done enough to prove himself for a top seat. However, you compare him to other rookies with less prep and you can see him competing against the likes of Oscar and Carlos in a year. Yuki has never shown that and Ricardo has not shown that for quite a few seasons now. Lawson has only shown that he might become 'the man', something neither Yuki or the current Ricardo have.
have you seen his body in the ice bath challenge? Or seen what Danni Ric's trainer has to say about him? He's is shredded like a julienne salad that takes seriously hard work.
@@caterinavega4228 First off asking an Alfa trainer is like asking Alonso his true opinion of Lance lol. But, yes Yuki does work hard, it just isn't of his own volition. He had to have the law laid down and still has someone to make sure he's up in the morning if the inside baseball talk is at all accurate. Maybe he is better now, but for sure his first two years he had to be convinced.
7:14 “Should've gone back to Minardi” That’s a weird way of saying go back to Toro Rosso.
LOOK OUT IT'S A PISSED OFF KIWI!!!
The timing of the announcement is likely great for Liam. He knows where he stands at Red Bull and probably gets the offer from Williams after yet another howler from Sargeant the same weekend. He is good mates with Albon, their team won the teams championship in DTM, where Lawson thrashed Albon over the series.
He's not going there, Horner said that Williams wouldn't want a driver for just 1 year. He was supposed to get the Alpha Tauri seat this year, but he was competing in Super Formula and they signed De Vries instead. So, by the looks of it, Horner's words are a hint that Liam is already in for 2025.
As long as the US hosts three races, Sargeant is not going anywhere. The only American in F2 is Crawford and he's not impressing anyone. And all the really good young IndyCar drivers (Palou, O'Ward) are foreigners. The much hyped Herta can't accrue enough SuperLicense points (he finished this season in 10th place)
Didn't realise they were transferring the team to England. I guess this is the year that Minardi finally dies 💔
The only solution is to give Ricciardo what he wants: the Red Bull seat. Get Tsunoda and Lawson together. I love Checo, but once the Red Bull falls back towards the pack in future, he's not going to step up. Don't get me wrong, Ricciardo is going to sink like a lead balloon as well, but Checo and Ricciardo need to move on - it's never going to happen for them.
Franz Tost was the one keeping them in Italy.
@@ReinhardPYep. And next year the team will have a new name, and go back in being more of a Red Bull b team.
Kinda sad.
@@ReinhardP Yeah, if I recall, it was part of the deal that was made when Red Bull bought the team.
They are NOT Transferring the Whole Team…it’s going to be split between both Countries….
This was great!
I understand why people don't like Marko and his tactics but imo it's because of him and his tactics that got championship drivers into championship cars at the right time (Vettel & Verstappen). It's working...
I think you hit the nail on the head Josh
Liam, was outed by the fact that Checko isn’t driving well
Can not put Ricardo on the shelf for the rest of 2023 if his there to pressures Perez
Yuki & Liam as team mate 2024 takes the pressure off Perez & that’s not what Mr Spice Girl wants
& on the side are watching Bathurst next month, if so who’s your pick?

Why do I get the feeling that redbull has something against Kiwis xD
Oscar Pastry was directly involved in Danny Ric being outed from his car twice already. Australian infighting galore.
Liam should've known better that beating Max in qualifying - especially for a place in Q3, is like signing your own death sentence
Highly doubt AT/RB would retaliate against Liam for that. It's not like Verstappen not qualifying for Q3 made a material difference in the driver and constructor standings. On the contrary it might've just increased his chances of getting a seat at AT or other teams in the future
If they really wanted the best results possible, I think they should have gone for Liam Lawson and Ricciardo. That way, you have a nice balance of a young driver who has World Champion potential, and an experienced head that can give him advice when he needs it and can bring home points if Lawson makes a rookie error. Not that I don't think Tsunoda is bad, it's just that Toro Rosso or Alpha Tauri or whatever are really dumb for dropping such an incredible driver. I really hope Williams snatch him up because him and Albon would be the perfect driver lineup for them currently.
"such an incredible driver"? what makes you so sure that he's better than yuki at this point?
It’s called ‘Recency bias’
They didn't drop Lawson though he's still under contract. While Yuki isn't the best driver on the grid I still don't think we saw anything to suggest that Lawson or Ricciardo are better than him over a season.
If I were Liam Lawson, I would drive the rest of my substitution, and than sign into a reserve role with someone else, because the worst place a young driver can be right now is Red Bull.
As a 90s dude, all I could think of was....
How bizarre, how bizarre...
OMC
Most sane take I've seen online. People were losing their minds over Liam when he didn't have any benchmark for the races and outside of the races he was comprehensibly beaten (as he should, he's a rookie after all). I think that he probably deserved to be on the grid over Ricc but we haven't seen anything from him and we also don't know how he's doing at the simulator
He made it into Q3 in Singapore, Tsunoda was 16th.
What? Do you think Tsunoda would beat him that race? Only on his dreams.
@@bizarroeddie1ahh..taking the important context out I see, yes Tsunoda is 16th, but he can't really put a decent lap in that qualifying didn't he? Or are you even watch the qualy?
@@drmaulana2600 he was blocked first attempt and made a mistake on the 2nd one.
How in the hell does this excuse him from a poor performance?
I hope Tsunoda does well. However, I cannot wish DR the same.
Pretend like Marko pretends to be a doctor.
It’s so annoying because Yuki is the weakest of the three in my opinion but with that said he is not a bad driver. He’s still quick and consistent.
They would've sacked him if not for the Honda deal. They need to wait for them to go to Aston Martin and Ricciardo to replace Perez.
Liam is guaranteed a seat for 2025 though.
Any chance Liam goes straight to RB? 😂 dude has impressed me. Tbf Max would make anyone look bad right now. He’s one with that car.
Seeing Pierre & Alex, it's unfortunately a recipe for disaster
@@mohammadnashitsiddiqui2168 I think Liam is stronger psychologically, could work. but it's a mess
