I just realized you could use the Beggars Bazooka instead of the Force A Nature. The Baggars Bazooka explodes directly on him instead of normally firing if you overload it.

(Could possibly have the super nailgun as a jetpack joyride type tool (of course with a limited use before having to recharge))
Also. It would be kinda funny if you made "IDDQD" a code that just displays a message telling the player that there's no godmode, so they can stop looking

To be fair, Team Fortress 1 was a Quake mod, so the Soldier was just the Quake guy with the vanilla Quake rocket launcher but that needed to be reloaded.

Solution to not being able to put soldier into steam version: make a different character but one that people can still see as soldier, and name them something like “mercenary”

I love this! a couple ideas i had while watching were:
Playing as Soldier turns the checkpoints into refill cabinets, to help with only having 4 rockets until you stop to reload like in actual TF2.
Changing the FaN for the Beggar's Bazooka, as in overloading it to basically get extra distance while in the air just like real TF2.
Resupply cabinets is a really interesting idea! That'd make for great puzzle-like levels

Well, this is Soldier we're talking about. His eyes are always covered by his helmet, so I doubt it matters much to him! Lol

ULTRAKILL has probably one of the best movement kits I've ever had the pleasure of using, but I feel that aside from the slam and maybe dash, V1's movement would be a lot of work to implement into this game. It would, however, be cool as hell like it is having Soldier in there!

you could make a quick reskin for the steam version once it eventually comes out ! keeping enough elements to let people know that it's a reference while staying legal

and, suggestions for characters? perhaps a playstyle that involves less rockets and more along the lines of bhopping to increase speed, with wall jumps? maybe some sort of mario-esque mechanic to clear some tougher levels where you can build backwards speed infinitely to get to the end of a level lol

Rail Gunner from RoR2 has something similar to stickyjumping. The main difference is that RG’s explosives detonate after a fixed amount of time rather than being detonated manually. Could be fun timing trying to time your jumps!

A group of people were working on tf2 source 2 and they were sent a cease and desist letter from valve.
Just make a legally distinct version of Soldier and the weapons he uses, find free or paid assets that are similar, or commission someone to make the assets you need. Would be a heck of a lot safer to go with that

btw there is a grappling hook in the game you can use for the grapling hook (soldier edition)
To make it a bit more accurate have soldier wield the grappling hook instead of the force of nature imo.

I think if you can't put Soldier in the full game you should change him into an original character and keep him in the game that way, he's SO fun to play as :D

Just downloaded the demo and WOW!
This is one of those games that's just the distilled essence of video games. I've been gaming for over a decade and rarely have I had this much moment-to-moment fun. The gameplay is amazing. I've been thinking about a rocket jump-based platformer for a while, and this is a simple, but brutally effective way of combining all the most fun Source game tricks into an easy to play, but super though to master speedrun platformer.
The gameplay is a constant learning experience and despite the fact that you will die a lot, it's never frustrating because you can feel yourself learning with each try, making failure rewarding, and success an absolute clench-your-fist, jump-up-and-cheer triumph. It feels so good to finally get a passage right, and learn more about the mechanics in the process.
I like that this game lets you take all the time to breathe that you need, and that the patterns of all moving things that aren't your character are predictable and always reset on respawn. I also like that after each tricky passage, it's hardly difficult to reach the next checkpoint to save your progress.
It's also fun to experiment and try little tricks, like finishing the level by sniping the factory at the end with a rocket, and I love how there's no single correct solution to every level, that you can also launch yourself into your own doom with every technique if you don't apply it right, and that you can try many different techniques and develop your own style.
You also won't progress by brute-forcing your way and just trying over and over again, but by learning from your mistakes and trying something new. This is what staves off frustration.
It's cool that the main level paths have a pretty mellow difficulty scale, but there's always exactly one optional lightning bolt in each level that puts everything you've learned until now to the test. It's very humane of you that checkpoints immediately activate as soon as you cross them horizontally, and that a collected lightning bolt is immediately saved, even if you die.
I'm already excited, seeing the locked abilities beside the bolt grapple on the ability wheel, and I can imagine that learning to speedrun this can be a blast. Accellerating to ludicrous speed is also an absolute rush.
I like the stylized parallaxing of the ground tiles, and how it's clear which surfaces you can and can't use your electric abilities on, as well as the difference between the deadly smog clouds and pink clouds you can stand on.
I like the death sound effect of the robot, because it sounds like "Oops, let me try that again." Very encouraging.
I also appreciate this game's adherence to the Characters-with-black-and-yellow-color-scheme-and-electric-powers agenda.
The serene music is actually surprisingly fitting despite you blasting yourself around with a deadly weapon, because it keeps your mind level. Though I turned it down and put on the Jetpack Joyride theme instead.
I also appreciate the Super Mario Bros. reference in the airship level.
The theme of being an electric robot who tears down the fossil industry is very fitting, and I like how the opening cutscene admits that nature isn't peaceful, but that pollution still disturbs harmony. I'd just appreciate it if this game went a bit further with its environmentalist theme and stated that the robot gets his electricity from nuclear reactors, because nuclear energy is actually environmentally friendly and has a lot of misconceptions around it.
Some reccomendations I have for the full release are to clean up the input timing when respawning, as you can sometimes end up launching yourself into death right after respawning because you pressed a button right as you died.
I would also like button remapping, and perhaps an optional slow-motion ability that you can limit via a menu, similar to how Celeste does it.
Also, I bet that cosmetics for your robot would make for an awesome long-term motivation.
This game is also begging for a level editor and leaderboards.
And even if he has to be removed for the full release, I think you should keep Soldier's shotgun ability, because it acts like a double jump and is really fun. While we're at it, you could also replace Soldier's/Whatever character you would replace Soldier with's bolt grapple with the Mannhook from TF2 and allow it to hook into the opposite of what surfaces the bolt grapple can hook into.
All in all, this is an awesome game that so clearly shows its inspirations and your passions for them, and I'm buying it on Steam day one.
On some of my TF2 videos I'd receive a few long comments from people who really loved TF2 and wanted to write paragraphs on paragraphs about it. It was so cool to see the passion. But to see someone write a comment like that about MY game?? It's surreal. Thank you so much for seeing beauty in it. I'll be coming back to this comment any time I fail to see the beauty in it myself.

The one thing valve doesn't like is when people use their assets without permission (which is why the source 2 remake was taken down)
I would recommend changing out the force a nature for his usual shotgun. Bit of creative Liberty I know and for the sort of grappling hook thing just reskin that lightning bolt looking thing with the grappling hook all characters get in the obscure Mannpower game mode

Honestly Valve might be ok with you having this in your game, there are lots of Valve fan games that use Valve assets and normally Valve is cool with games and fan projects.

Kind of funny you making this video, cause I've been wanting to make a 2D platformer in unreal, but have been procrastinating on it solely because I can't get mouse aiming working like it does here, and I haven't gotten rocket jumping working. Don't worry the game concept is still different from what you're doing but since you got it working in unity maybe I'll try and find some way to get it working in unreal. Or maybe Godot if I'm feeling confident.
Programming mouse input used to be a big struggle for me, it can be really frustrating. And getting rocket jumps to feel right took a long time for me too. Don't give up though! I'd love to play your game, and I'm sure many others will too! These things don't come easy, but if you're patient and keep playing with it you'll get there eventually :)

you should make it so that when you type in the code the domination jingle plays
I found that if use press shift at the start of a level the timer doesn't start, and you can use that with soildiers FaN to boost a bit futher ahead at the start, which i assume is unintensional.
Another funny tf2 idea could be a sentry on wheels, they do have rockets I don't know how it would fill the other 2 roles, but it's still dumb and funny

You did forget that TF2 does have a grappling hook in the game.
I'm not sure if it's intentional, but the flowers bounce your rockets when you shoot at them. and at first I thought it was just a funny coincidence, but that allows you to SYNC JUMP!
It's intentional, but for some reason Soldier's rockets specifically don't change direction when bounced. :P There were a few bugs I wasn't able to fix before the vid got published. I'm glad you discovered the sync jumps! That's 1 of 2 ways players can sync jump B]

its easy to get source stuff into blender, just get the source importer tools. I have a set of tools that can import .mdl model directly so you don't have to decompile them, also works with alyx models. I'm mostly a 3ds max user though

After going through the game I can confirm soldier is a good he runs fluidly
the only other tidbits i have to share are the following:
1. Missed opportunity not making the grappling hook the one from mannpower
2. lvl 7 was difficult

Fun way to get around getting sued by valve(doesnt work with nintendo though >.>) is making valve content be a downloadable workshop mod. Do with that info whatever ya want.
Technically, yes, ya still be putting valve assets outside of source engine so it is illegal, but valve doesnt really strike workshop items and having it as mods you can share it on 3rd party sites and still have it on steam version.

Hunt Down The Freeman is still on Steam, I think having a TF2 character in a whole another game is something they won't care about.

Hunt down the Freeman, despite its quality, started as somewhat professional project. They payed for source licenses and use source engine. That's why they are legally allowed to use valve IP assets.
Another benefit to add legally questionable content as mods -> Needs to be taken down? Ofc, ill just take down the mod and actually have 0 edits to my game
awesome game, fastest ive gotten on level 1 is a 9.6 second time, i hope you can add an option to return to the previous level so you can do runs for one level without having to navigate the menu, that would be greatly appreciated!
also there was a bug where restarting the level doesnt reset the timer for some reason

I understand not doing this since the work is already done, but what if you instead cut him in half at the waist rather than the shoulder since he has animations for his upper body pointing upwards and such. This may make him look less weird when doing extreme angles.
The issue here is that the shoot animation needs to be totally independent from the body. If I used his entire torso, then I'd need a separate shoot animation for every single possible torso angle :P
I was thinking, could you add the medic from team fortress classic? He is also from the tf2 universe but he is super op due to his mobility & due to him being the best class in tfc, even being a better scout than the tfc scout. He can have Ross’ (tfc soldier’s) rocket launcher in the thunder jumper universe. Also while you’re at it, you can add Lang Wrangler from jojo as he has a power that can make the real world behave as it was space by removing gravity. Also his power’s name is Jumping Jack Flash. Perfect for a game named Thunder Jumper. Again I’m only giving you suggestions, you don’t have to add them if you don’t want to
