What a great birthday present, my two favourite men talking to each other. Dave and Bulletproof started me on the journey and Max keeps me going. I have always loved the bromance between the two of you and this discussion has made my day. It is my 76th birthday by the way and medication free - thanks
Dave, as always, makes some great points but also, as always, he misrepresents many. I am prone to kidney stones and am fully versed on oxalates, so here are key things he said which are off: 1. Kale is not high in oxalic acid, he is conflating kale with spinach and some other high oxalate greens like rhubarb and chard 2. He said dinosaur kale has lower oxalic acid than locinato kale. Um, dinosaur kale is another name for locinato kale: they are the same thing! He meant to say dinosaur kale (aka locinato kale) has less oxalic acid than curly kale. It has been shown that but neither has meaningful levels of oxalates. Spinach has hundreds of times more oxalic acid than any kale. 3. Yes if you eat calcium with high oxalate foods, the calcium will bind to the oxalates which you will excrete rather than the oxalate binding to the calcium in your body and forming crystals (e.g. kidney stones) where you don’t want them BUT one would be far better off to consume dietary calcium than supplement for that to occur but if they DO supplement then take calcium citrate (the citric acid mitigates along with the calcium) rather than calcium carbonate via adding to what you are cooking then eating 4. He says to boil the kale to reduce oxalates but his website says to lightly steam. Either is fine, don’t worry about oxalates in kale worry about the goitregenic effects and limit cruciferous for that reason rather than the low oxalates he is highlighting 5. Dave A’s problem is that he sounds so confident and authoritative but sometimes it is warranted and other times it is not. He should be more careful and remember he is “just a dude” and we should do our own research and not take anything he says at face value. He has products to sell but would do better in that endeavor by doing even more research, being confident only when warranted and not portraying himself as more than an expert than he is.
Love the topic … not so much the guest. A little too arrogant for my taste. He has this know it all vibe. You did a great job as the host and interviewer… this is why I always enjoy your channel. 👍🏼
Great interview! I always am entertained by Dave Asprey! The conversation about kale was fascinating. I have battled tartar on my lower inside teeth for years, despite brushing and flossing twice a day. When I stopped eating vegetables, after going carnivore, about a month ago, there is no tartar on my teeth! I hadn’t even noticed until Dave Asprey talked about this. Thanks Dave!😊
Just wanted to say a quick thank you Max. Started my 'weight loss journey' earlier this year, however coming across your content has definitely improved my discipline tremendously. It's nice to hear other people speaking about fitness & health in the way that you do. There's not many people out there in the youtube space releasing weekly podcasts about the benefits of nutrition and etc. Thanks again.
Like others, love your show but this guy is tough to take.... Smug and self-impressed are two words that come to mind. Though I love the idea of the affordable ice bath via salad bowl!
Coffee is a known mineral depleater and it also blocks mineral absorption, especially iron. So why add minerals to coffee? It's like believing shampoo is 'moisturizing' because the bottle tells you it is.
Love the podcasts Max. However just for information Dave - I ‘went grey’ during covid and it wasn’t due to a mineral deficiency! It was because I stopped dying it…as did many many women. It is normal for women to have grey hair and it is beautiful 🤍
We use our canine teeth to grip and tear food. Without canines you'd have a very difficult time biting into an apple or a sandwich. Human tiny canines are not for tearing and ripping meat.
Max promotes eating whole Kiwi fruit including skin. Dave has an excellent understanding of oxalates and was hoping to educate Max. I’m a victim of oxalate damage and recovering for 5 years now and several more years to go. Very few people understand the slow long term damages caused by oxalates 😢
Very interesting physiological response to testosterone cypionate versus enanthate, Mr. Asprey. What about testosterone propionate, the shortest esther? Have you tried that before, too inject more often to keep steadier blood levels? What natural AIs do you use? You mentioned one briefly, can you please provide them all? Amazing interview, thank you so much! I just ordered Work Smarter, Not Harder-can't wait!
I feel like everything I was taught growing up about food and what is good for us was dead wrong. Everything that I’ve learned since about eating more organic veggies and brown rice and whole grains and less meat was also dead wrong. Basically everything we’ve been taught was and is a lie-our history and the “news” etc etc etc etc truly ad nauseum too. It still is a matter of competing ideas with each having proof that they are right. What about the “blue zones”living longer with a highly plant based diet. Is there something to eating for one’s blood type. Could the answer lie in this? Different diets work due different people? How else can this conflict be explained? Luck? Very frustrating! I’m 63 and have inflammation. I want to get this right because I have issues and I’ve eaten “right” and exercise, etc and I want to have quality of life for however long I’m blessed to live.
I’m eating kale & spinach lightly sautéed for the k2 to help with my 5000 D3 so the calcium will go into my bones and not my eyes, joints, arteries and heart. I shouldn’t?
@@chrismyers9951 yes, VERY high along with some others such as chard, rhubarb, beet greens. Plus greens also have K1, not K2. If you want K2, do a supplement or fermented cabbage (sauerkraut, kimchi) or fermented legumes (natto, fermented chickpeas) or aged cheeses
Lectins leach minerals from the body. This is well-known. Why don’t you do a little reading yourself & look these things up? No one has to provide you with “science”. Do the research yourself.
Dave isn’t easy to watch or listen to. While I appreciate his knowledge his delivery is arrogant and condescending. He uses every chance he gets to emphasize that he knows something “for years” or “wrote about it a decade ago” or sells his products between the lines. Love Max tho ❤️
Basically eat healthy food but that means animals/plants raised healthy which I hate his tone about this but very true our soils are depleted. That makes every food grown on it depleted as well
The graciousness in which Max interacts with Dave’s arrogant narcissistic tone is commendable. Max seems to genuinely try and extract useful information for his listeners while Dave consistently tries to sell his products and occasionally belittle Max. No wonder Joe Rogan said he’ll never have this guy on his podcast again.
Yeah I would like to think I’m a pretty good judge of character. I really want to like Dave and I’ve watched several of his interviews to try to give him the benefit of the doubt, but I just can’t deal with his narcissistic attitude and his “my way or the highway” mentality. Now I do agree with a lot of what he says but I don’t like the way he goes about explaining it. Also I understand trying to sell something that benefits humanity, but he was also vegan for a while and now totally denounces it. I am, or never have been vegan, but I don’t look down in the vegan community like he does. I believe to each their own and do what works for you individually. Everyone is different and a certain diet might not work for everyone.
Love your show❤️but this guest, who I am well aware of and seen in many interviews, did a disservice to your listeners with his self serving arrogant attitude. Your simple question, which asked what many viewers would want to know-“what foods can we get DAEK from” was rudely dismissed.
DAEK (or ADEK) Vitamin D, Vitamin A, Vitamin E, and Vitamin K.. the fat soluble vitamins. It’s interesting to me how many people find him to be arrogant considering the immense good he contributes to the collective knowledge.
I live in Southern California and am on Social Security. The average Social Security check is $1,640 a month. I challenge Dave Aspery to give away all his money except $1,640 a month then come back and talk about buying grass feed beef. I am FORCED to buy most of my food from the Dollar Store.
@@ppkgaming210 EASY. Just have him live on $1,640 a month in Southern California and buy $35 a pound meat. I very rarely eat any meat because I can't even buy the $6 or $7 a pound supermarket meat. I drive a base model Toyota and not a Ferrari or Bentley.

This from a 78 yr. old woman who has been subscribing to health newsletters and buying and reading over 5 hundred books on health and nutrition over a period of 40 years: I feel he is full of SHIT. I lost count of the number of times he mentioned his book. If his goal is to help people not go through what he did; how about giving away the books. He said he didn't need to write the books because he was already financially well off.
The only person I know who claims to have had bad side effects and to feel "bloated" on the carnivore diet. Look at his body language when he says it lol it's 🐎 💩 and he knows it. He's just carving out his own niche and I get it. I respect the hustle... I just don't understand why you have to lie about carnivore...

It would be really great if I could get this info in a language I understand! Please will you tell us what will give us these minerals.
