Redeveloping Downtown with New Skyscrapers! | Verde Beach 110
Hello everyone and welcome back to Verde Beach! In this episode, we're going to take the first steps towards adding the new Skyscrapers Content Creator Pack towers to the downtown area. Initially, I was going to place all of the towers quickly, but since this is redevelopment, we're going to have to be a bit more thoughtful about the process. We'll add in a number. Enjoy!

@@CityPlannerPlays love your masterpiece!!!
My boss saw me watching one of your videos on my break (we work in my city administration), and he asked what I was watching. I showed him, he liked you so much that he showed everyone else and now we got the entire department watching your vids and whenever we have something difficult we just say “Let’s ask Phil.”
Rock on, CPP!
I wish you could narrate my life with that voice. A "bad day" at work wouldn't be a "bad day" at work.
Be your own narrator! Cpp can teach you how to reframe your life on your own just as much as if somebody else did it for ya
@@gd_xl this^
It would be a "let's not let perfect be the enemy of good" day
Am I the only one who liked the Trade Center the 1st way Phil built it @ 36:27? I loved the path surrounding it!
Same
Yep, despite the terrain challenges, he pretty much created a back entrance with that design. Super clever in vanilla
Yup. The pedestrian bridge actually fit perfectly with the architecture of that building. Also the second version kinda looks like a generic barrier meant to keep people away, rather than the eye-catching effect that bridge would have.
I loved it I thought it looked like it was built into the ground, really interesting look!
Definitely better IMO. It fits the area well and I could see it IRL. And these types of pedestrian bridges attached to buildings IMO are very cool and much appreciated.
Regarding the National Trade Centre, one of the big draws of the 200 year old Nature Reserve (Palms National Forest) is the views it preserves from its viewing decks.
Edit: revisited Episodes 10 & 13 (timestamp 8.30 - 9.00 on both episodes for context) where the Nature Reserve's MO was to have a direct view to the sea & volcano, there was also a highrise ban in the block (episode 12 timestamp 34.40 - 35.10) where the National Trade Centre was built in this episode. The Reserve was built with views the biggest consideration, with targeted tree & building removal which conflicted with the views.
The terracing should start a block away from Sterling Zoo Boulevard to retain the views if possible. Could you discuss what planning hoops would need to be jumped through to approve a skyscraper in its current location?
That said I love the detailing around it & the upgrading of the Verde Beach skyline! Looking forward to seeing the other skyscrapers in action!
Exactly, thanks for going back for the old intentions.
Of there is any redevelopment that area would probably be more suited for a really nice plaza.
@@luc4856 Thanks, I appreciate it!
Also interesting to note that that the original Hamilton Experience was checked after the fact the attraction did not conflict with the views of the Nature Reserve. (Episode 18 timestamp 53.40). I imagine CCP would have stepped in had a ride hindered the view.
This was the last time I could find the view taken into account although it is more then possible to have been since. Maybe in a disaster stream with a tsunami incoming?
The updated Hamilton Experience didn't need to worry because of the orientation of the pier. Funny to go back to those episodes and watch the great ferry disaster of 2177 during construction!
Think a plaza would make that area amazing. Imagine leaving the zoo and having this incredible walk all the way down to the Hamilton Experience while only having to cross 2/3 roads. Would be an amazing part of the city to visit!
I do agree with this, but you could also argue that since it’s been a couple centuries since it’s creation, the new demand for these buildings would outweigh a super old building restriction? But I don’t know much about this topic so of course, I could be completely wrong
@@meady50 it's a good point! Thanks.
Would be good to see the pros & cons discussed. Also how something like that could happen from a planning perspective, timeframes etc
Yes, came here to say this.
Hello Verde Beach! I’m Andrew Hamilton and your listening to the Daily Fire Starter! Today for top news, a controversial bill has finally been put in place. This bill will destroy some older towers from the 2000s and 2100s for some new modern towers. Do you support it? Please talk to me on the Daily Fire starter forum! Have a good day Verde Beach! I’m Andrew and you listened to the Daily Fire starter! Good Bye!
Hi Andrew big fan of the show.I saw the architects envisioned plans for the area and i want to tell how disapointed i am that the city planner seems to have leaved the Gherkin tower out of the plans.Gherkin represent the neo classical style of early 2000s and i think that in these everchangin times and skylines we deserve little bit good old architecture in our city.
Hey Phil!
I was in LA too. One of my the highlights of the trip was being able to bike along the beach. You could easily build that into Verde beach and bring new life to its coastline!
I was in San Diego in September and it was amazing to ride the bike through Ventura Beach along the beach. Beautiful views.
i really liked the idea of a path going round that last building, i know it probably can't be done right in vanilla but it would be nice to try
it would be really cool without the grass poking through
Agree! And use our imagination that below the path, there is something down there. Like an artificial garden or a shopping mall
Hi! A viewer from Spain salutes you! The tower from Spain (6:34) is the Torre Cepsa (Cepsa Tower) located in the "Área de Negocios Cuatro Torres" (Four Towers Business Area) in Madrid. Beautiful zone with, as the name suggest, four really beautiful and high towers. You can see them just searching in wikipedia "Cuatro Torres Business Area". Keep the good work! Love your videos!
Really love that you're redeveloping downtown after 200 years of no new buildings 😎 just loving this episode in general, brings me back to 2020 seeing all these old areas again, feels like I've actually been there even tho it's not even an IRL city.
The green cities DLC Residential Skyscrapers level up to be some of the tallest growable buildings in the game. That would take care of your lost population and give you the higher buildings to fill in some areas between those skyscrapers.
Was going to leave a comment on this subject as well. I think I might like the Green Cities buildings just a little too much sometimes.
30:47 is the Carlton Centre in Johannesburg South Africa, and instead of “Chirpnet” it has a sign that says “Transnet” which is the national rail company of South Africa.
I think for sure that a subway station would be created for that first tower complex, especially since the line basically runs under the building!
I'm pretty sure there actually used to be one right there -- there was a hole in the zoning exactly 2x2, which just screams "removed metro station".
Phill, it would be so cool if you could get a shot of the original, intermediate, and finished skylines and morph them together in a panning shot like you did in ep 100. It'd make a nice capper for the final stage episode.
For the improving density, don't forget you have the skyscrapers ban on outside of downtown! So for some of the existing mid rise neighborhoods, you could take the ban off and the residential can level up more
Wow catching a video 5 minutes after it going live! This is going to be a good one!
Hey Phil, I think you added the smaller Marshalltown tower on accident instead of the tall one. You were showing how you'd be adding the smaller tower later on, but forgot to switch off of it when placing the "actual" tower!
That building from Poland would be even better if it had entrances on both sides, so you could enter into the hotel lobby from the "back" of the building on Sunset. I absolutely LOVE how you've added the buildings in this episode and the last!!!! It looks so perfect and so real.
Love the little plaza along the first building. It looks nice when you have movement and life in the street along the buildings.
I loved the Skyscrapers DLC, but they should count as residential or office buildings (depending on the building they’re based), instead of tourism building. I’ve started using RICO to better using the potential in all of them and I’m not the best builder, but I’m liking the results so far!
I actually really dig the Malibu Barbie vibe that those houses have! It gives the neighborhood a very interesting character
Have you ever considered doing a city in a more challenging environment such as snow or a desert? I would love to see how different you do landscaping as well as how you overcome the other unique challenges of such an environment.
The perfect video for a snowy morning!
Good Morning From Minnesota!
Is a snowy morning in Colorado, too!
30:01 The Marshall Town Centre is in Johannesburg, and we know it as “The Carlton Centre”. The branding at the top says “Transnet” which is the state owned rail company. It was the tallest building on the continent for a long time, and that title has now been take by The Leonardo in Sandton.
Hiiiiiiiiiiiiii Phil!!!!! Though it can't be used in all cases and may cause problems or be more expensive, it is easier to use the airport zone levels terrain.
You should work on some tour buses and walking routes, with all the unique buildings you could make a lot of money
Hearing you talk about planning stuff is seriously one the best parts of this channel. I’m planning on going to planning school after undergrad so I’m just enthralled by it. Also congrats on CZcams black voices ✊🏾❤️ doing it big!
It's going to be really interesting comparing how these buildings get placed in vanilla to the other series with mods
The Marshalltown Centre is the Carlton Centre in Johannesburg, South Africa which is a mixed use building consisting of commercial and office space. It opened in 1974 and used to be the tallest building in Africa and the southern hemisphere (it's 3rd in Africa now) and it has the Transnet logo on it, hence the Chirpnet logo on the building in the game. It is also owned by Transnet.
The building also used to house a 5-star hotel called the Carlton Hotel, but it was closed due to the downtown area slowly decaying, crime rates were rising and many businesses and wealthy individuals moved to better locations like Sandton, which has the 2nd tallest tower in Africa called The Leonardo.
Apart from the Singapore skyscraper which looks like a massive brick wall blocking everyone's ocean view, casting massive shadow behind, but I like alot the rest of the skyscraper styles blending into its surrounding, which felt it happened "organically".
I love hearing about your experiences with work and all the city/zoning talk
It could be cool to put in a walking tour of all these skyscrapers for tourists visiting the city to see them
I love this style change for the city tour!! Makes it feel more real and tangible, and much less like a game -- awesome work Phil!
Another fantastic ep. I think you did a great job creating a sense of place for all the towers. I thought it would look too cluttered from the initial map, but now think you could do a couple to the west in the touristy area if you wanted to.
It's crazy to think how new life can be breathed into an area from "200 years ago"!
I'm not usually a fan of the flyover city tours but loved the style of this one
@18:00, those homeowners must be delighted for the huge trees appearing out of thin air, halving the effectiveness of their PV panels on the roofs. 😆
Ngl... Your voice is ASMR... It helps me sleep and at the same time making me want to watch this video to the end.
I really enjoy how you jump time and make your builds a full believable story!! Great work sir, you and Biffa are some of my favorite cities Skylins builders it's great to have a goid story to go along with the build and give it even more meaning!!! I was thinking It would be cool to RICO The skyscrapers and turn them into whatever you wanted. Imagine the housing that would provide. Not sure RICO even works on them however.
When you didn't publish a VB episode last week, I was pretty sure you did try to record it but wasn't satisfied with the result.
Placing these buildings is complicated since they are reaaaaaaly higher than the highest vanilla buildings.
In my cities I may never use the tallest ones.
34:51 I felt a great disturbance in the Fish Markets, as if a million fishmongers suddenly cried out in terror, and were suddenly silenced.
Bye bye Pike's Place...
A bunch of episodes ago you built a pedestrian oriented outdoors mall kinda place, where you placed the Big Ben looking clock, any plans to touch it up using the pedestrian DLC? That surrounding area might perhaps be interesting for developers looking to build sky scrapers and other high density uses maybe.
wow, the city is looking gooood! I can't wait to see how it'll look once all the skyscrapers are placed.
I'm not sure if it was intentional, but I like that you used the shorter the Marshalltown Centre building instead of the taller one in this video- the taller one was selected first, but I think the shorter one works a lot better with the surrounding buildings!
Great episode (one of my favorites so far!) and I am very excited to see you place some more buildings from this CCP
More Verde Beach please. This is my favorite series!!
Hey Phil, just wanted to say I am very intrigued at the direction. Love what you’ve done to the skyline and I agree with you on taking your time with it. I’m curious to see how it continues to evolve.
Btw, I finally figured I’d check out your discord after months of being a member and I was very impressed with how extensive it is! Idk why I didn’t check it out sooner. Lots a great stuff on there, keep up the good work as well as all of those that assist you with providing us with good, relaxing, entertaining, and informative content.
Nice episode Philliam. At 13:00 yes as a person who has lived in big buildings in a downtown for many years, it’s non negotiable for me that the neighborhood has public outdoor spaces because… we don’t have yards
Someday when you're done with the vanilla build, I would love a live stream where you add Move It! and fix all the stuff we find over the weeks/years.
I just visited LA, your cities makes a ton more sense now !
Hey Phil! I love the commentary on planning procedures and etiquette around 23:00. I don't work in your field but I do work as a regulator and understand some of the frustration when dealing with industry. These monologues from you are one of the main reasons I am subscribed to your channel - I have learned so much about development and infrastructure.
As an aside, have you considered extending the coast with barrier islands in Verde Beach a la Miami Intracoastal Waterway? It might be a little urban dystopian but it opens new lots for development and increases access to waterfront.
Amazing ideas. Loved this downtown redevelopment.
12:12 Behind on the series but there’s a full graveyard just here that needs emptying, and maybe replacing. Loving the use of the skyscrapers!
I feel like a circle tower would look and function amazingly down on the Hamilton Expo. 360 degree unobstructed views out in the water!
Coffee and CPP is the best start to my day
I actually liked the idea of hiding the ground with a pedestrian bridge even if doesn't make any sense. It looked good too IMO.
33:54 - you're right, Phil! As mentioned in the comment under your previous VB video this building is located in Warsaw's centre and in fact it's mostly known for the Marriott hotel. It's actual name is Centrum LIM. I'd say it's not the best tower we have in the city, far from it, but it totally blends in with the American skyline so I guess that's why it was picked over much nicer skyscrapers, like Q22, Cosmopolitan (two of my favourite), Warsaw Spire, or the current tallest skyscraper in the EU - Varso Tower.
"There is a presence here."
You are goddamn right, Phillip.
I love the storytelling in the introduction.
I have found the forestry fence works really well as a high garden fence, like for townhomes or condos
For someone lives in Miami, I would love to see more pieces of Miami sprinkle into the build especially with the downtown area
12am & a phil vid? Hell yeah great day so far!
love the new city tour format
I am allergic to bees too. 😂 Loved this build - making my way through all of Verde beach 😎
so trippy seeing my home lol. we also have another center of high density along the beach a bit north called sunny isles. you can see those literally from the edge of the everglades 1:52
Wow, I can't believe I'm finally caught up on Verde Beach, now I have to wait for episodes as they come out 😪
Guess it's time to start Clearwater County
Being from Shanghai, the Oriental Pearl TV Tower is an icon of the city just like Empire State Building is to New York... So Verde Beach gives me this weird "Shanghai in an alternative universe" feel that I cannot overlook lol
I always like to place fences between housing and public spaces. It just feels more like the places I've lived.
That pool-path view reminds me though - in one game I was going "old school" and just building housing next to industrial. One house had a backyard with a pool, and right behind that pool was a giant coal power plant.
Love the new style of city tour!!!
Been here sjnce ep 1 of verde. City looks amazing since it was first started
Really enjoying your thoughtful skyscraper placement.
That centerpiece tower is gorgeous, but it definitely needs some buildings around it! Right now it makes the residential towers near it look like single family homes!
Verde Beach does remind me of a Southern city like Miami or Atlanta, good comparisons there.
Verde Beach is back 👏👏👏
Why was the transition to the ad so flawless due to Phillip? xD
Great video, I adore how beautifully you included the towers into the skyline!
Australian Triangle Building seems to potentially be 25 Martin Place, as both are 228m and look similar, though maybe due to copyright, ATB is a little more circular. I don’t know if they goofed on the year or if this was intentional, but 25 Martin Place was built in 1977. It seems to be a close match, and I couldn’t find any other building in Australia that was 228m in height
Marshalltown Centre looks to be the Carlton Centre, a 223m building built in 1973. I forget if you mentioned this in the other skyscraper video, but it seems like one of the pieces of information is incorrect, maybe to toy with whoever may be trying to find it’s IRL counterpart
National Trade Center looks to be Chałubińskiego 8, yeah, that, it was built in 1979, but is 150m tall
Large Bank Building might be the Suntec City towers, as the appearance is a close match, however both the height and year do line up with two different towers, but those two, 6 Battery Road (for 1984) and the Marina Bay Financial Centre Tower 3 (for 239m), look nothing like the building in question. Really making people think hard about what it’s IRL counterpart is.
Torre Manilva is a perfect match with Torre Cepsa. However, that was built in 2008, not ‘07, and is 248.3m, not 328m. You just had to make it complex, didn’t ya devs?
As someone pointed out, ATB is actually the Australia Square Tower. I’m not Australian and since I was just going by what was on List of Tallest Buildings in Australia, that seemed to be the closest fit, 25 Martin Place. My mistake
You are very close though, as the other Australian building from this DLC (the MLM Centre) is 25 Martin Place. It is known as the MLC Centre (a wealth company). Unfortunately the creator didn't make any of the designs from other Australian cities but I do think they did well with these two.
Love it! A great place to re zone all of the growables you lost would be in the beach on the other side of I think it’s named ocean ave. I would also love to see some of the green cities and plazas and promenades zoning for the high density commercial and residential ad they look very cool and modern. Also, I know you have the campus DLC campuses (still waiting on the liberal arts college) but in the name of giving your citizens options, might be cool to plop down some of the single building universities assets (there are lots of options- university, faculty, high capacity university, modern technology institute). Unrelated, but as far as I remember your city does not have a prison. Lastly, are you planning on increasing coverage of libraries in the city?
The Australia Triangle is the Australia Square building from Sydney. Yes, Australia Square was round, so now you know why the creator called in Australia Triangle. Yet another regular shape bearing no relevance to the actual architecture ;-)
I like to imagine that the bottom floor of the national trade center is essentially like a terrarium, looking out on all this green and earth. I feel like that, along with a carefully cultivated grounds could look really beautiful, even with windows that are essentially facing the dirt.
My favourite thing about the circular “Australia Triangle” building is that it’s actually named “Australia Square”. Somebody’s having a laugh 😂
Verde Beach is back, yeah baby!
This Content Creator pack is what finally convinced me to buy the game (and all the DLC) on steam. I’ve been playing for years on Epic, without access to mods, but as soon as I saw these skyscrapers I knew I needed RICO so that they would actually be functional!
I would love to see more use of rocks to cover up that ugly vanilla cliff texture in Verde Beach! The use of rocks at 22:44 is refreshing to see compared to the default go-to foliage.
Loving all the builds! Not sure if anyone mentioned this yet but the large trees overhanging the homes with solar panels (right after the wall to wall conversion) seems a bit off to me due to shadows and leaves obstructing the panels during daylight hours.
Was binge watching. Clicked on the channel and now I’m super early
Those buildings are AMAZING!! Keep it up :)
The National Trade Centre building is called The Oxford Tower located at 8 Chalubinskiego street in Warsaw, where it got its’ old name Ch8. The Warsaw Marriott hotel is actually located next to it. Ch8 has been built in 1978 and is 150m high. Built as an office building for the Commerce Bank and International Trade Office, still serving the office role. Back in the days it was the second highest building in the city, now far surpassed by new developments like, Zlota44, Cosmopolitan or Varso Tower -> the biggest building the whole European Union 😊
Bro your videos make my day. And that voice literally destress me.
The National Trade Center is actually based on the Ch8 building (formerly Oxford Tower) in Warsaw, not the Marriott hotel. They are placed basically right next to one another, look quite similar from a distance, but the latter was completed a decade later and features almost flat glass facade as opposed to Ch8's outer white pillar design
Hey Phil!
I’m from Poland and I thought that you want to know something about „National Trade Center”. In real life this tower was called formerly „Intraco II” and „Oxford Tower” and now is known as „Chałubińskiego 8” because of its adress (8 Chałubińskiego Street, Warsaw), was built in years 1975-1978. IRL this building is 150m height.
PLEASE mix in some more targeted detailing or redevelopment of old areas of Verde Beach! Mega projects and expansion are cool, but its so easy to forget about where things all started
Is it bad that i say that i fall asleep to your videos? Like they’re interesting and I love them, they’re just what i throw on when I’m about to sleep and it’s great
nice vid as always Phil. the skyscrapers dlc buildings glitch. if u add the building first, then try to use road or paths around the building it will glitch to a bridge. but if u add the road or paths first and then add the building it will be fine and function appropriately FYI
The “Australian Triangle Building” is the Australia Square building in Sydney, NSW
another great VB vid...cant wait to see what comes next!
You should place palm trees together more often! I rarely see singular palm trees unless its a highly manicured area -- often there's 2 or 3 trees growing right up against each other.
18:15 just murdering the output of those solar panels on those hideous pink homes haha
The bank building looks so icky! Everything behind it is white and the dark brown is so jarring. Besides that I love your videos! I’m a new subscriber 😊
21:17 so, i absolutely love these kinds of real world anecdotes you're able to tie into episodes from time to time. but i was just thinking, you said you tried to record this episode 4 times already. did you have to tell that story 4 times? how do you deal with covering the same topic over and over across multiple recording attempts? what amount of scripting/note-making do you do beforehand? the production quality of your videos is so consistently outstanding, i'd love to hear more about the minutia of the behind-the-scenes experience
Bob Ross of City planning
Another good example of a tropical climate city with skyscrapers right along the beach would be the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia
The downtown was, and still is in desparate need for redevelopment and density increases. The addition of tourist areas, like the towers, would incentivize demand and increase value in a very expensive area. In the future, areas near downtown of low-density should be upgraded to new uses, high-density, services, or entertainment. Verde Beach has so much potential in its older areas, and developers will soon break through the defenses of the VB planning office (another nice thing to add, a bigger office for yourself).
Bank built in 1984... I was 4 years old back then. Just thought it funny when you said "a little bit older than me". I thought you were way younger. :)
