- This video shows you how to de-winterize and sanitize the water system on a 2020 Thor Tellaro 20AT. It may apply to Sequence A models and newer Tellaro 20AT vans as well. If you are uncertain about the operation of your van’s systems or winterization and de-winterization, please contact Thor or your servicing dealer. The author is not responsible for any damage resulting from following the procedures described in this video.
Thank you, Tom! I just successfully de-winterized my 2022 Thor Sequence 20AT. Not much has changed between our models (except the low point drains are now internal). Very clear instructions, and I especially appreciate the Truma bypass/restore instructions.
Glad it worked out for you.
Thank you so much for the video. Planning on de-winterizing tomorrow and this was a great reminder of all the steps.
Thanks for this video on this specific type of RV! I feel confident I can do this myself now.
You’ll do great! It gets easier every time, too. The Facebook group “Thor Sequence and Tellaro Owners and Wannabes” is a great place to get help. Highly recommended.
Great video! Out 20AT has the drains in the electrical closet floor, which means you have to open them and run outside to check! See my question above about the truma… can you use it when it is empty of water?
Thor has moved a bunch of stuff around so I’m glad you found them. You can run the Truma empty, see my answer to your question.
Hello Tom, always appreciate your insight on the wannabe forum. Question? Are there any step by step instructions for completely sanitizing our fresh water tank on a 2021 20at Tellaro? We've owned 5 months now and I attempted to once, but don't think it was thorough. Is it similar to the de-winterizing as in your CZcams video? We live in Calif and were told that Winterization is not so necessary out here. Really appreciate some clarity or direction on just the Sanitizing Process of Fresh Water System (what valves to open/close while running Bleach diluted solution throughout the system? TY so much! Paul (not sure you'll see this comment here, will fwd to the Thor Forum as well.)
Sanitizing your water system is straightforward. I do it was part of de-winterizing but you can do it at any time.
1. Drain your fresh water tank and Truma. Bypass the Truma; valves in red and blue lines closed, valve in red/blue line open. Open the valve in the blue line coming from the fresh water tank.
Add 1/2 cup of household bleach to 1 gallon of water.
Close the fresh water tank drain and Truma drain calves.
Start filling the fresh tank and when it’s about 1/2 full pour in the bleach mixture. Continue filling the fresh tank.
Run the water pump and open each faucet and let the water run until you smell chlorine. Do this for both hot and cold, on each faucet.
Turn off water pump and let sit for 12 hours. I let ours sit over night.
Drain the fresh tank. Set the valves for normal; valves in red and blue lines open, valve between red and blue lines closed.
Fill the fresh water, turn on the pump and run water through every faucet until you don’t smell chlorine anymore. Do this for both hot and cold water.
That’s it.
Hi again! @@tomrosback3142 Thanks so much for the details. UPDATE! I followed the instructions closely though here's what happed.
I Drained the Fresh Water Tank, and Truma (pulled the lever up in Truma Cab and watched 2 gals approx drain under van.)
I turned OFF the following: Blue Fresh Water Valve, Blue Cold Water inlet Valve (mine not hidden), Red Hot Outlet Valve (vert one in the back left side of Truma cab)
I then Closed that Truma Valve in cab since it had all drained out on ground. .I Opened the Red/Blue line (called the bypass I think, it had been closed for months).
I filled the fresh tank (bleach solution as instructed).
I ran Water Pump, Open faucets but NO WATER CAME OUT of any of them, (Fresh Tank is Full), Then I thought to myself, " How can any water get to a faucet if the Blue Fresh Water Valve in front of the Truma Cab is OFF? I ONLY opened the Fresh Water Valve, tried the faucets and water was flowing. I shut off the Water Pump, and left every sitting as it was and returned to the keyboard.....mystified, (scratching my head) wondering how I screwed up? Thx for being patient with me, Plan is to HIT PAUSE and get back to the drawing Board. TY Paul
My instructions were not 100% clear. Leave the valve from the fresh water tank open. Has to be open for water to get to the pump and the rest of the system. Everything Else is A-OK.
@@tomrosback3142 Yaaay! All Good Tom! It's a marathon, not a sprint! HA! So since I did run (bleached) Fresh Water thru all faucets (late) last night (after opening just that fresh valve) seems after sitting Over-Night I can now:
Drain the Fresh Tank,
Re-Set the Valves for normal (per your instructions) or as they were for normal flow, (Only Closed Valve remains the Red/Blue Bypass, and the Truma Drain of course.)
(Finally) :) Fill the Fresh Water, Pump clean through till no chlorine smell for H & C.
Seems like the only part that still had me wondering was that (vertical red water line) or 'Hot Water Outlet' from the TRUMA, since I had closed it during the process, what was that actually doing or preventing? while I was running bleach water thru all the faucets?
Again Tom, thx for the detail and patience as we learn, FYI.....I've been following your posts since Feb 2023 as a wannabe, then Jennie and I took the plunge Sept 2023 (thx to Rex & Greg as well). I do what I can as a Newbie to pass things fwd as well, must always remember that 'Deer in the Headlights' phase as well continue to learn! Paul
You close the red valve to prevent bleach water (or if you are winterizing g, antifreeze) from entering the Truma via that path.
Thank you so much for the video, Tom! Question 1 - the Truma brass valve was closed for the wintering. Do I open the Truma brass valve for the de-wintering? Question 2 - when I drain the Fresh water tank from the kitchen faucet by turning on the water pump, the gray water was coming out from under the coach. What would be the issue? (I did this after opening the Truma brass valve)
The brass valve on the floor by the Truma is the drain valve. Close it for de-winterization. The water you see coming from underneath the van is from this valve.
If you use heat when your van is winterized then leave this valve open during g wi get operation.
@@tomrosback3142 After de-winterization having closed brass valve, when I use the heating system for chilly nights (for example, during Fall season), is it still to be closed? (I am thinking the brass valve functioning as a pressure relief valve from heating)
Leave the valve closed until you winterize and drain the Truma tank. If you use heat in the winter after the van has been winterized then leave the valve open.
@@tomrosback3142 If I use heat in the Fall before the van is to be winterized for the coming winter, should I still keep the valve closed?
Yes
Do you need to sanitize a “new” winterized system?
Yes, I sanitize even a new system. You don’t know where the components have been prior to installation in your van.
Thanks fro the video. Good to know however doesn’t tank heater be sufficient to without winterize? I don’t take my rig to snow to avoid the trouble.
If you have power where you keep your van then you can run a small electric heater to keep the inside above freezing and the tank heaters to keep the outside tanks from freezing you won't ever need to winterize. That's ideal. We store our van where it gets to -20 F and we have no power, so we have to winterize.
Hi Tom,
Thank you for the video that helps me a lot. For sanitizing mixture, you said 1 ounce blench + 8 ounce WHAT (I did not understand) + 1 gallon tap water?
1 Oz of bleach per 8 gallons of water. Our tank is 24 gallons, so 3 Oz of bleach. I mix the bleach with a gallon of water first to make it easier to put in the tank.
@@tomrosback3142 Thank you very much!
hello Tom. what is the use of the valve between the blue and red line? and why you keep it close when its time to use the truma again? i notice that you leave it open for winterizing
With the valves in the red and blue lines closed to keep antifreeze out of the Truma, the open valve between the red and blue lines allows antifreeze to flow into all the hot water lines.
Hey Tom thanks for the vid. I have a 20L and dewinterized first time yesterday. I stopped in panic when I ran water through after shutting/opening valves as water was coming out from under the coach. Drained tank and stopped. Then realized last night that I hadn’t closed the TRUMA relief valve! Doh!!
Question, the propane needs to be on for TRUMA to heat water correct? Sounds obvious but just making sure before I try again.
Yes - propane and battery switch on for heat or hot water. After dewinterization I run the stove for a few minutes just to make sure the propane is working before I start the Truma.
@@tomrosback3142 does that mean you can run the truma empty?
Yes - I do it all the time. Make sure you open the Truma drain valve before you run the Truma for heat. This keeps pressure in the tank from building when you use the heater.
@@tomrosback3142 oh great. I was worried about the water jacket buckling from not being cooled by the water around it.
So, why do you use the small heater if the Truma is functional?
