2020 Thor Tellaro 20AT Winterization
Winterizing a 2020 Thor Tellaro/Sequence 20A/T B-van using RV antifreeze.
It will work for other models and model years, the valves and ports will be in different locations.
Materials required:
2’ length of 1/2” ID plastic tubing with a 1/2” male NPT barb fitting to fit the tubing. This is used to pump antifreeze into the pipes.
6” to 12” length of 1/2” ID plastic tubing with a female NPT fitting on each end. You can buy these premade at your local hardware store. This is used to bypass the water filter and housing.
Schrader to 3/4” male (garden hose) NPT adapter. This is used to blow out the City Fill line. You could also use an antifreeze pump.
Bicycle tire pump or tire inflator.
2 gallons of RV Antifreeze.
All this is available at a local hardware store.
Thor water system schematic and winterization guide - available in Thor owner’s resource website.
1. Drain the fresh, black and grey water tanks.
2. Open all the faucets and the low point drains and run the water pump to get as much water out of the lines as possible.
3. Drain the Truma (brass valve with a yellow handle).
4. Close the fresh water tank valve.
5. Close the valves near the Truma both blue and red.
6. Open the Truma bypass valve between the red and blue lines.
7. Remove and drain the water filter housing and replace it with the male-male 1/2” NPT hose.
8. Dry the filter, and store in a place that won’t freeze.
9. Use the 3/4” male to schrader valve and a bike pump or tire pump and pump air into the city fill and tank fill fittings. This will clear out any water in those lines. Alternately you can buy an antifreeze pump and use that.
9. Close all the faucets and low point drains.
10. Place one end of the 2’ hose in a container of antifreeze and connect the 1/2” NPT male to the female winterization port.
11. Turn on the water pump and open one of the faucets on hot. Run until you see antifreeze come out solid. Close faucet. Repeat for cold. Then repeat for all faucets and the toilet flusher. Finish with the low point drains.
12. Remove the hose from the winterization port and replace the male cap.
13. Empty the grey tank.
14. Add antifreeze to the black and grey tanks.
All the valves and winterization port are located under the rear seat in the A/AT.
In the L, the winterization port and fresh water tank valve are located under the passenger side bed behind an access panel. The other valves are located under the drivers side bed adjacent to the Truma.

    Thank you, Tom! I just successfully de-winterized my 2022 Thor Sequence 20AT. Not much has changed between our models (except the low point drains are now internal). Very clear instructions, and I especially appreciate the Truma bypass/restore instructions.

    Thank you so much for the video, Tom! Question 1 - the Truma brass valve was closed for the wintering. Do I open the Truma brass valve for the de-wintering? Question 2 - when I drain the Fresh water tank from the kitchen faucet by turning on the water pump, the gray water was coming out from under the coach. What would be the issue? (I did this after opening the Truma brass valve)

      The brass valve on the floor by the Truma is the drain valve. Close it for de-winterization. The water you see coming from underneath the van is from this valve. If you use heat when your van is winterized then leave this valve open during g wi get operation.

    Hello Tom, always appreciate your insight on the wannabe forum. Question? Are there any step by step instructions for completely sanitizing our fresh water tank on a 2021 20at Tellaro? We've owned 5 months now and I attempted to once, but don't think it was thorough. Is it similar to the de-winterizing as in your CZcams video? We live in Calif and were told that Winterization is not so necessary out here. Really appreciate some clarity or direction on just the Sanitizing Process of Fresh Water System (what valves to open/close while running Bleach diluted solution throughout the system? TY so much! Paul (not sure you'll see this comment here, will fwd to the Thor Forum as well.)

    • @tomrosback3142
      @tomrosback3142 Před 6 měsíci

      Sanitizing your water system is straightforward. I do it was part of de-winterizing but you can do it at any time. 1. Drain your fresh water tank and Truma. Bypass the Truma; valves in red and blue lines closed, valve in red/blue line open. Open the valve in the blue line coming from the fresh water tank. Add 1/2 cup of household bleach to 1 gallon of water. Close the fresh water tank drain and Truma drain calves. Start filling the fresh tank and when it’s about 1/2 full pour in the bleach mixture. Continue filling the fresh tank. Run the water pump and open each faucet and let the water run until you smell chlorine. Do this for both hot and cold, on each faucet. Turn off water pump and let sit for 12 hours. I let ours sit over night. Drain the fresh tank. Set the valves for normal; valves in red and blue lines open, valve between red and blue lines closed. Fill the fresh water, turn on the pump and run water through every faucet until you don’t smell chlorine anymore. Do this for both hot and cold water. That’s it.

      Hi again! @@tomrosback3142 Thanks so much for the details. UPDATE! I followed the instructions closely though here's what happed. I Drained the Fresh Water Tank, and Truma (pulled the lever up in Truma Cab and watched 2 gals approx drain under van.) I turned OFF the following: Blue Fresh Water Valve, Blue Cold Water inlet Valve (mine not hidden), Red Hot Outlet Valve (vert one in the back left side of Truma cab) I then Closed that Truma Valve in cab since it had all drained out on ground. .I Opened the Red/Blue line (called the bypass I think, it had been closed for months). I filled the fresh tank (bleach solution as instructed). I ran Water Pump, Open faucets but NO WATER CAME OUT of any of them, (Fresh Tank is Full), Then I thought to myself, " How can any water get to a faucet if the Blue Fresh Water Valve in front of the Truma Cab is OFF? I ONLY opened the Fresh Water Valve, tried the faucets and water was flowing. I shut off the Water Pump, and left every sitting as it was and returned to the keyboard.....mystified, (scratching my head) wondering how I screwed up? Thx for being patient with me, Plan is to HIT PAUSE and get back to the drawing Board. TY Paul

      @@tomrosback3142 Yaaay! All Good Tom! It's a marathon, not a sprint! HA! So since I did run (bleached) Fresh Water thru all faucets (late) last night (after opening just that fresh valve) seems after sitting Over-Night I can now: Drain the Fresh Tank, Re-Set the Valves for normal (per your instructions) or as they were for normal flow, (Only Closed Valve remains the Red/Blue Bypass, and the Truma Drain of course.) (Finally) :) Fill the Fresh Water, Pump clean through till no chlorine smell for H & C. Seems like the only part that still had me wondering was that (vertical red water line) or 'Hot Water Outlet' from the TRUMA, since I had closed it during the process, what was that actually doing or preventing? while I was running bleach water thru all the faucets? Again Tom, thx for the detail and patience as we learn, FYI.....I've been following your posts since Feb 2023 as a wannabe, then Jennie and I took the plunge Sept 2023 (thx to Rex & Greg as well). I do have a question though...it seams by using this bypass valve to put antifreeze in that the antifreeze does not get into the section of blue hose that runs from the water tank to the shut off valve next to the place you put the antifreeze in. Am I correct on this or does it somehow go all the way around through that tube?

    • @tomrosback3142
      @tomrosback3142 Před 10 měsíci

      Linda - that’s a very astute observation. It is correct. We rely on the water pump to vacate the water in that line. By draining the tank and keeping the pump running, we can get most of the water out of that line. So far it has worked for three winters. The alternative would be to pour some antifreeze in the fresh tank and have the pump run it through that line. I prefer not to do that, since the tank may pick up the antifreeze taste.

    • @tomrosback3142
      @tomrosback3142 Před 11 měsíci

      Our van has a simple gravity feed for fresh tank fill. Nothing to Winterize there. Some newer vans have a port like the city fill one. After you’ve drained the fresh tank use the bicycle pump to clear that line, just like the city fill line. Other than that, you’re good to go. A little water I the fresh tank is not a problem because it has plenty of room to expand when it freezes.

That's ideal. We store our van where it gets to -20 F and we have no power, so we have to winterize.
