  • Here is a compilation of the Vancouver Mark I trains on the Expo Line. You'll see many consists of different combinations of a 6-car train, small bonus near the end!
    SkyTrain opened in 1985 using the UTDC-built Mark I cars to move people between Vancouver, Burnaby, and New Westminster. 114 cars (001-056, 061-118) were ordered for the initial phase of the system. In 1991, a second batch of Mark I cars (121-136) were built by the same corporation to increase capacity while running between Waterfront and Scott Road Stations. In 1995, Bombardier built the last batch of Mark I cars (137-156) for the same purpose while running between Waterfront and King George Stations.
    These trains have a signature SkyTrain motor sound especially when accelerating and breaking in and outside of stations.
    Mark I trains are also used in Toronto (retired Line 3 Scarborough), and Detroit (Detroit People Mover).
    Please sit back, relax, and enjoy my Mark I compilation.

    Gotta love the sounds the Mark I traction motors make. While I'm biased, I do believe that the Mark I's make the best sound out of any metro train I've heard.

    I hope the mark 1s live a long life as proof of how good and well built they were for thier time. The originals are still in service 1/1/24

      They're proven reliable over the past few years. It's a bummer that their time in revenue service is coming to an end pretty soon. A lot of us, especially the older generation, have grown up with the Mark I fleet since its inception.

    SkyTrain is like the Detroit People Mover, with the same rolling stock and automated system, but more expansive.

    Also they've maintained this stock for a long time there's lots of pride in SkyTrain both for the workers and public. More TransLink creators than the TTC

    I love the little Mk1 trainsets that come from one end of the screen to another. I noticed that Translink does 1 thing today specifically with it's Mk1 trainsets that TTC used to do with the Montreal M1s & Hawker-Siddeley H-Series cars in the 80s.....Mixed trainsets. Even now Translink will do 1/3 of one livery & 2/3 of another livery, 1/2 of one livery & 1/2 of another livery or even 1/3 of every livery as seen in this video. TTC in Toronto used to do something like a 2/3 H-Series & 1/3 M1 trainset or even something like 1/2 H1 & 1/2 H5 if it's only a 4-car trainset. It's too bad TTC stopped doing mixed trainsets in the early 90s. There are at least a couple of footage of mixed trainsets of Toronto Subways on CZcams.
    Another thing Translink still has which TTC discontinued since 1993 which should get a mention here are Trolley buses. Those buses are nice but too bad there are none in Toronto now.

      @MetroElfren  Před 3 měsíci +1

      TTC use to do that until the introduction of H5s and H6s I believe, I may be wrong on that. They also used to mix the Blue and the original SRT schemes with their Mark I fleet until all of those cars were refitted with their plain Sky-Blue colour ... which looked hideous in my mind.

      @@MetroElfren TTC did not do the Mk1s that good. They did not have the same driverless operation as Translink due to pressure from the union opting for manual operation. What sucked was that the Mk1s would only travel 80 km between 2 stations, Midland & Scarborough Centre & travel less than that throughout the whole line as opposed to the Skytrains that travel 80 km throughout the entire line. Now TTC's Line 3 is gone after 38 years & some of the cars might or will move to Detroit for the People Mover. I'm honestly amazed that Translink managed to run & maintain the Mk1s into its 40th year. TTC would retire trains at no more than 38 years max or if they aren't sold for scrap after 40 years some would become work cars. However, 2024 will be the beginning of the Mk1s retirement due to the arrival of the Mk5s. I'll miss the Mk1s when they're gone especially the whining sound it makes when it leaves the station

    Imagine if the Mark 1's from the 1991 & 1995 batch also got refurbished 😆 But I like that they still have the original liveries

      You are right! In fact, these trains (except the 1995 Mark I's or the white-blue-yellow trains) were built by UTDC, the same corporation that built the Mark I's for the Scarborough RT.
