Most fans wouldnt do the same at all. They'd treat it as a silver lining if they lost but they wouldnt want it to be the desired outcome.
Villa would have probably been better in the Europa League than the Champsions League because they'd have a realistic possibility of winning it, and they have a manager who is the Don of the Europa League. But they didnt settle, and they pushed themselves because they arnt a small club with a small mentality. They wanted to be in the top competition to test themselves against the best.
