I hear Paul Simon loves this version of his song too. That's so cool. To be fair, David Draiman doesn't sound like this on any of Disturbed's other stuff (like their brilliant version of 'Land Of Confusion') but it just shows what a beautiful voice he has when he uses that classically trained voice of an angel. It's great that he has that in his locker.
@@jeffstevens4262 actually he does sound like this on other disturbed stuff. Have a listen to hold on to memories similar vocals and full of emotion as well. Take care
I'm glad I scrolled down to go through the comments before I posted mine because I was going to mention the same thing lol! The fact that he was sick and still managed to give such an amazing performance that sounds better than the studio version (in my and many others opinion), makes it even more epic!
Probably one of the best song covers of all time! So beautiful! David's voice is beyond amazing. When people hear this version for the first time, are in awe.
Honestly one of the best live performances of all time. Great original song by Simon and Garfunkel, but brought to a whole new level by David Draiman. This will never fail to elicit an emotional reaction from me.
I have listened to this more than once daily, watching these reactions. Never gets old. This is one musical magical song. Watch the video. You will go to another level. Beautiful
I get the chills also and I’m 75 yrs old, I’ve never heard anything like it. I’d never heard of this gentleman. My little grandson used to sing first first line. Then I found it accidentally on iPad and thought I’ll give it a go, I’ve never looked back, can’t play anything else, I think it’s here to stay for me at least. ❤
David Draiman vocals are epic. When he sings this excellent version, he "sounds" (to me at least) angry that after 60 plus years (the original song coming out in 1964) nothing has changed. "People talking without speaking, People hearing without listening, People writing songs that voices never shared,...". Ironic that the band Disturb covers this song. ❤
David Draiman was trained from childhood to be a cantor (a singer of Jewish religious music) like his famous grandfather, but he chose a different path. On the day of this live performance he had a bad flulike illness but he sang anyway. Amazing. He held that ringing note near the end for eternity. I knew this song but never understood it until I heard him sing it from his heart. I like to think he and the other group members were struck by how their name echoed in the line “No one dared disturb the sound of silence.”
If you listen closely, you can hear his voice is a bit different from the official version. He was sick that day (I've heard he either had a cold or the flu) and was seated so he could conserve his energy for his singing. His control is unbelievable. I've read in other reaction comments that God asked David if he wanted the voice of an angel or a demon and David just answered "Yes please."
Hard to believe that Disturbed is a heavy metal band or that the lead singer, David Draiman is actually classically trained. Love this. He is amazing and your reaction is, too.
The Simon and Garfunkel version was one of my brother’s favorite songs. He passed away before this cover was released. I wish he could have heard this.
I love watching your reactions because they come from the heart. I agree with you 100% this is much better than the studio version. Thanks for being so honest
I have seen a handful of your reactions to videos in your early days. They were not "terrible" because of your genuine and heartfelt reactions. Keep at it. You are a cut above many others.
I agree that this version is so much more emotional than the official video version. His voice is so rich and warm and deeply emotional. The man is an angel, giving a message. Heed it before it's too late.
My friend you are correct, it is a God given voice, David is a classically train Cantor and Jewish also. I love that you can see how hauntingly beautiful this mans voice is along with the lyrics.
This live version is haunting, as is the official video, which I'm glad you've seen (and I hope you were able to peer around those annoying "up next!" tiny screens at the end to see the moment of hope when the musicians with their instruments in the boat are crossing the water to meet the ten thousand people on the other side.)
It's funny but I like BOTH versions equally. Both versions are unique and the vocals are amazing in each version. I heard that he was actually sick with something that messed with his voice the night they played Conan - and he STILL sounded incredible.
@@luckylisa5496 I agree, Lisa; each version has its own special qualities (like apples and oranges -- well, no; like Honeycrisp apples and Golden Delicious apples. ;D)
David trained as a Jewish Cantor in Israel years ago. Somewhere a synagogue is looking for him! God: Would you like the voice of an angel or the devil? David: Yes.
These reactions have become a drug for me. I search for new ones every day. 99 percent of them are exactly the same. I love how so many are rendered speechless, or all they can say is WOW!
I read David wanted to do this cover. The band wasn't aboard with doing any cover. He promised them if they did this song he wouldn't ask for another. It's been years, I guess he kept his promise but this cover was probably their biggest hit
David was very ill with a high fever when he performed on Conan's show....he's a master of his craft and his determination not to let people down is incredible.
Great reaction...I agree, much much better than the studio version. Everyone sounds great in the studio. Get out in front of a live audience, sitting alone on a stool...then we will see just how great you sound. You are right, it is hauntingly beautiful...an epic masterpiece. One of the top live performances in music history. Peace, my brother

Anyone mention to you that he had a bad cold that night? Only because i've worn a hole through all their albums can I tell. Much love for DISTURBED 💓💕💖💕💓
David Draiman has major talent, great range and awesome control. He can go from baritone to angelic tenor, to rasp/grit/distortion and back on a dime....which is not easy to do. Have seen Disturbed live twice.....they are amazing! Loved your reaction JB.

I'm so glad you came back and watched the Live version. The visuals of their MV are incredible but nothing beats this Live raw performance. Seen it a hundred times and I'm still stunned and full of goosebumps. David's vocal control is a masterpiece add in the beautiful arrangement and yeah, speechless. ✌💖✨🖤
Beautiful Version of this song sung live! Yes, a few singers/songs make me have no words after listening! Jonathan Antoine does that for me and many fans! You will love his solo version of 'The Prayer' where he harmonizes with his own voice! Speechless! Also, him singing 'Compass' is very uplifting for you and all of us! You will enjoy them as much, if not more, than your reaction to his version of 'Unchained Melody'! Take care, Janes! 🙏🙏🙏🙏
For me they are both absolutely brilliant. Yeah the studio version can be tweeked and done over and over until they get the perfect track and then it has the brilliant video perfectly designed to suit the song . But then you get this live version which is perfect even if he was sick when he did it. Sometimes I think both versions are brilliant by some band or singers. Look at dire straits. Perfect studio recordings then you see the Alchemy live performance and it's out of this world.
Talking about the beauty of Draiman’s vocals makes me wonder if you’ve listened to any other Disturbed. 😂😂😂I’m a huge fan. All of their albums are in regular rotation on my playlist.
