Originally this was done by Simon and Garfunkel. One of my dad's favorite songs. This came out way after his suicide and I REFUSED to listen to it. One day, while we were driving, it popped up on the radio and I finally gave in. I cried. Dad would have adored this version. It is so powerful and really gives the song life and body.
Disturbed did a live performance of this song on Conan. David was sick with a cold and he still tore it up like the pro he is. He's the real deal. All of them are super talented. Dan Donegan is one or my favorite guitar soloists. Dude can shred.
My favorite thing about people reacting to this song for the first time is when they realize that’s not an effect, he can just do that with his voice whenever he wants to.
The look on your face @Flawdzilla said it all. This song changes your soul when you hear it. It kills me when I hear people say that rockers can't sing...
Good music doesn't need excessive commentary. It speaks for itself. This version of the song leaves so many reactors speechless.
I haven’t been around her long, but I’ve never seen Flawd left speechless. I’d like to see them react to the Conan live version with the knowledge that he had a 102° fever.
David Draiman...amazing range and control ! A powerful yet soulful voice that can go from warm baritone to angelic tenor, from clear as a crystal to distortion/vocal fry and back on a dime, which is incredibly difficult to do . He has a timbre in his voice that I've never heard before.....just hauntingly beautiful ! ...one of the best male vocalists on the planet imho. Loved your reaction Flawd.
Flawd was speechless after that!!! No better reaction than just absorbing what you just witnessed.
He took this old song and made it his own. I never get tired of watching him sing this song 🫶🏻🇨🇦❤️🔥
Me too I've seen it so many times
I've heard this song Many times and still get chills and goosebumps!
This song literally touches your soul. I felt like Flawd was contemplating his whole entire existence after the song ended.
I remember the first time I heard this...it absolutely haunted my soul for like a month and I played it on repeat constantly. This is hands down the greatest cover of any song ever IMO
I did the same thing!
What up J&J
Second only to hurt by Johnny Cash
The third is Just Breathe by Willie Nelson
Agree 💯
No one will ever sing this song better than David Draiman he absolutely owns it. 🤘
Indeed 😎
I am a massive Disturbed fan and have heard this song 1000 times. Watching Flawd react to this was EPIC, I felt Flawds emotion. This was amazing to see!
Mad Respect Brother 🔥🔥🔥
Written by Simon and Garfunkel in the 60's it's amazing how relevant this song is today. And no disrespect to S & G, but this rendition is so fricken powerful!
Written by Paul Simon !!!!!!!!!!!!!
@James Bond Bond lol very true. Was merely referencing the stage in his career. Paul is one of, if not my favorite all time song writers
So you've discovered David Draimen and you've discovered Floor Jansen. Are you guys starting to realise most of the best vocalists on this planet are all singing in the Rock/Metal genres. You have no idea how many amazing vocalists there are but I'm loving your journey of discovery. Keep up the great videos both 👍
I first heard this cover a couple years ago at the Museum of Pop Art in Seattle. Huge screen, huge sound system. Not gonna lie, I'm a 49 year old man and I was ugly crying in front of everyone with this. There's a moment in this version where you stop listening and you start experiencing it.
The original S/G version was the warning. This is the "you didn't listen" angry version. Absolutely amazing.
You HAVE to react to their song "The Light"! It's about an injured fire fighter recovering, and is incredible! David Draiman is Jewish and was trained as a Jewish Cantor (A hyper specialized Jewish singer) He comes from a family of famous Cantors. If you're familiar with Jewish music you can hear the influence on their early music especially. It's awesome to see the commercials they release when they tour in Israel, he does them in Hebrew. He also does the concerts over there in Hebrew. Their catalog is huge, and incredible. Disturbed regularly releases more political songs talking about the media, "The Vengful One" is a good example. Disturbed is still a huge band, and released a new album this year.
I honestly think his live version is the best version of this song
The Simon and Garfunkel version was a warning with dark lyrics but delivered in a light fashion. Disturbed's version was a war cry with an urgency that it was already too late. Also saw another comment saying you needed to check out the live performance on Conan. Absolutely.
the live version is forever stained with autotune, please do not diss David by requesting the conan o brian version, thank you.
IMO the Conan version is 1000% better!
@@victoriawaterman6339 how when it's autotuned even when David requested that the autotune not get turned on? you Conan simps are fools of the highest order.
@@UltimateGamerCC Draiman was very ill when the Conan segment was taped. I think the autotune can be justified under the circumstances.
@@trevorsimpkins3142 no, he hated that they did that, he visually rolled his eyes when they ignored his request, he was ill but he didnt want that either, fuck the Conan version.
Dude is a modern vocal legend
i get goosebumps every time i hear this song and it gets to the part where he goes hard
He redid this song so his mom had a song she could play of his for her friends. Such a sweet thing for a son to do for his mother! It’s one of her favorites.
Loved the reaction! The amazing thing about David Draiman, is that though he is known for his heavy metal music, he was actually classically trained as a cantor, (someone who sings in synagogue) I love this cover, I wish you could of heard a couple of his heavy metal songs first, it makes this even more amazing. :D This version of this song is amazing, but you should also do a reaction to them doing this song on The Conan O'Brian show. It's live and with a full orchestra. It's so beautiful! It makes it even deeper and more chilling I hope you will do a reaction to it! ^.^
Interestingly enough, Art Garfunkel was also well-known for singing in his local Synagogue.
@@BearfootBob Oh wow! Amazing when little facts like that appear. Things that jump era's. or when things come full circle, Simon and Garfunkle did this song as a warning for what will happen in the future if things don't change. David is saying it has happened, we need to address it.
I have seen so many reactions to this song. I cannot tell you the number of reactions that are just speechless at the end of the song. It never gets old watching that. Best cover to a song EVER!
"And the people bowed and prayed..."
Chills, every time.
If anyone has any doubt about how amazing he is watch him live on Conan! He was recovering from a cold & was still breathtaking!
The LIVE version is the only one! Your mind will be blown, and he was very sick during that performance which is what truly takes it next level!
An epic version of a masterpiece. The lyrics MAKE this song. This is poetry in every sense. The way I see it is like two different people reading the same poem, one is soft and light and told with melody the other as if a dramatic actor has taken the same script and used it to send a message with warning and menace. I love both in equal measure
His voice is the most powerful instrument there, he leads the music. If you watch his face and neck and head, every single ripple of the skin, every dimpleor crease in his face, his eyes scrunching up are all the result of his voice being created. Its quite amazing just watching those little things and hear that absolutely amazing angelic/demonic voice he has.
The point where he hits the "neon gods" line might be the single greatest musical moment I've experienced in my life. That guy has an unbelievable gift.
Another legendary singer is Michael Patton from Faith No More. His range is beyond believable
Disturbed just melted another brain lol just wait till they hear one of his harder tracks
The moment where David's voice grabbed your soul was priceless.
He is classically trained prior to ever doing rock music. His voice is absolutely gold.
It sends shivers down my spine every time I hear this.
EACH AND EVERY TIME!!!
If you think this was unbelievably powerful... and it truly, TRULY is. But to listen him speak, and the intelligence that he possess is truly mind blowing. Ear scratches and belly rubs to Gator.🙏💜
He is a classically trained singer and blew away Simon and Garfunkel with this rendition!!!
One of my top 3 favorite covers of all time 🖤 David’s voice is incredible. The live on Conan version is a must!
He comes from a family of cantors. And literally one of their primary functions is sing the emotions of their faith and people! It’s amazing! He was literally born to sing this song!
I have been listening to this song for years now and I still get goosebumps, I saw them live in concert in 2019 and when they did this song I got emotional. David Draiman is an absolute beast vocalist.
One of my favorites..one of the best covers in my opinion!🤟🔥
I absolutely love their over of "Shout" as well they did, called "Shout 2000"
Your facial reactions, Flawd, are EVERYTHING!
The message behind the song is even more powerful then his voice powerful performance for a beautiful song.
Never heard the entirety of The Gospel expressed in such an unlikely venue...the longing of God to get our attention and restore us to our lost humanity. And where does He whisper the answer to the human condition? In places excluded from the neon lights. The singer's voice is anointed, as well as the piano, drum and guitar players. Absolutely phenomenal.
David Draiman (the lead) grew up in a Jewish church and was a Cantor in the choir. Many will say he was trained in classical music but that's not true. He learned right there in the choir and he honed it there too. He has been able to take the classic sounds of classical music and tweek them into a metal sounds. He's truly a treasure. And he has a good true heart too. He's literally stopped concerts because people were getting out of hand and some were getting hurt. He chews the whole crowd out when that happens! LOL
Absolutely one of best voices ever!!
Fun fact: David Draiman, lead singer, discovered his talent for singing at an early age in Synagogue. He was studying to be a Cantor when he decided to leave school and join a rock band.,
My mom never liked metal music but when she heard this version she was an instant fan of it
This might be the best reaction I’ve seen. The guy looking *completely* puzzled, like “what’s happening right now” 😂. But yes, this version and David’s voice are absolutely everything!
David Draiman was classically trained to be a singer--that's why he's so amazing. Disturbed is my jam.
🤣 First time I've seen Flawd speechless.
It happens sometimes. I've watched him cut the camera off. If I'm not mistaken over FFDP, Wrong Side of Heaven. I enjoy watching him get stumped up lol. Guess because we're all feeling it. 😇✌️
David Draiman’s voice is incredible! The original written by Paul Simon of Simon & Garfunkel was released in 1964. It was upbeat sounding folk song but still with a serious warning. Disturb’s version is the anger that the warning was not heeded. Paul Simon loved this cover and even posted it on his social media. David Draiman is a trained Cantor (a Jewish chanter during temple services). Both his father and grandfather were also canters. It takes a special voice.
Paul Simon wrote this song in 1962. Glad to have grown up listening to some of the greatest music of all time.
This song has always been a warning of the times we are living in right now.
Loved seeing y’all’s reaction to this masterpiece. Thank you both for posting this. Much love!!!
It moved me to watch you react to this. I had to watch it a few times and I was on this live 🙏
First time I heard this version I cried for an hour. And it stuck with me for days. A perfect voice always makes me emotional. ❤❤❤
This band is one of the most amazing and powerful metal bands to ever exist and they simultaneously produced one of the most beautiful covers ever done. The talent of all of them is amazing and I completely agree that David's voice is probably the best in the business.
Can't mess with perfection...
Even Simon and Garfunkel said it was very good....
Simon & Garfunkel are awesome!! This dude is giving a command version!! I love their song Bridge Over Troubled Waters-y’all should check it out!! This is awesome! Thanks for a fantastic reaction! 🎵✌️
This is the best cover of this song. David’s voice gives me chills every time. His voice is so good it makes me want to cry. You FEEL that shit. Amazing!!!
Metal/Rock singers are so versatile. Massively underappreciated these days. No lame auto tune, etc
David Draiman pretty much has the most powerful voice in rock and this was just him taking a break from the range he carries....
This song moves my SOUL!!!!!!
Love your reactions! Mostly listen to your Tom MacDonald reactions, but others as well. Disturbed kills this rendition! I grew up on the original, but I love this version much more.
I've listened to this song many times and I still get goosebumps every time. Legendary voice!
This version is a masterpiece. When Paul Simon (from Simon & Garfunkel) heard it he told David that the song was his now.
So the original singers and song writers for this song was Simon and Garfunkel. Disturbed sang that song live on the Conan show and simon sent an email to Draiman(Lead singer) and it said," Really powerful performance on Conan the other day."
I don't remember if this was stated in an interview or not but I remember hearing "It's not our song anymore." Also, Draiman was actually a Canto in his youth( a leader in prayers for Jewish congragations). That mixed with his heavy vocal experience was how he could sing this so well. Thanks for reading my ramble!
You can just see how hard that hit you guys. You'll never hear the original in the same manner as this version. A bit like Johnny Cash singing Hurt by NIN
David Draiman was classically trained as a cantor. He knows how to use his voice safely to do amazing things. He is even more incredible live. One of the best experiences in my life was a Disturbed concert.
My favorite song by them is "The Light" , but I'm sure people will mostly recommend "Down with the Sickness" which is also an absolutely incredible song by them
This Song and Davids Interpretation of the verse and melody was Epic !! He makes you feel the songs message. !!
This is not their typical sound, but it fits this song perfectly
I always like to see people appreciate good music. And seeing your face soaking it all in when it was all over was a joy to watch.
You guys have to watch David do "Sound of Silence" live on Conan! You will not believe what this man can do live!!
You can keep your fancy opera singers...no other singer has made me as emotional as Mr Draiman does. 💕 💖
It’s like a worship experience.
He brings the beautiful darkness to the song.
Ya that song with his range is super epic!! Loved the react!
After Paul Simon heard this version of his song he said that Disturbed now owns this song because he felt it was the best version he had ever heard. The lead singer of disturbed as one of the most honest voices I have ever heard. I believe this song will go down in history as theBest song ever
I have watched that video a few dozen times since it cane out and it STILL gives me chills everytime!
The original Simon and Garfunkle version was a quiet, sad warning of the way society was heading. The Disturbed version is the anger that no one paid heed to that warning. (that's the way I heard it described once)
He trained as a Cantor (the person who sings the prayers in a Jewish Temple) most of his life , He is classicly trained in music, but this was 100% his Soul being bared he put so much emotion into this song.. The Original was by Simon and Garfunkel was like a warning a gentle warning.. this was the anger when people didnt listen..
I'm 56 years old. This is the greatest live performance I've ever heard. And I've lived through Elvis
David Draiman is a boss when it comes to being able to sing just about any kind of music. Disturbed did three major remakes with this one by Simon and Garfunkel, Shout by Tears For Fears, and Land of Confusion by Genesis. Anything from Down With the Sickness is fire as well as 10000 Fists.
I have listened to dozens of reactions to both this version and the live on Conan version. I don't care how many times I hear this, I get full body chills from my ankles to my scalp. Disturbed is heavy metal, but they bring messages with their music that really need to be heard.
You have to peep it live on Conan. It will literally bring tears to ur eyes..
No matter how many times I hear it or watch people react to this it never fails to give me chills. It's just so beautifully done and it gives all the feels. They made it their song.
you saw it in your face... it touched his soul.
Can't add more to what has already been said. Leaving comment to help you out. My wife and I are 60+ and this is her favorite song of all time.
I loved your expressions of wonder at the halfway point. Especially as I knew what was coming.
Somewhere there is a version of this with no music, just his vocals and it’s even better in my opinion.
I read a comment once that said "when professional singers hear his voice they go back to cuttin grass for a living"
I absolutely love seeing someone's reaction the first time the hear this. The look on both of your faces says it all. Goose bumps and soul touching. The live version on Conan Show is even better. David Draiman's voice is incredible. Paul Simon of Simon & Garfunkel the original writers and singers after hear this cover said, "it's their song now." It'd also been said the original song was a warning of not speaking to each other. Where Disturbed's version is a "I told you so"
Damn, never seen you speechless like this.... speaks volumes.... speechless .... sound of silence....
David Dorman is the kind if singer can tell a story within voice. His sing tells a story from start to finish. My son told me one day mom you have to listen to this. I had only known disturbed as being a heavy metal and to this old lady is harsh. As someone who was around fir the first version this was tge vest I have ever heard. Then I started looking into this man. I was amazed to find that he was classically trained. Never overlook any music from any medium.
I haven't ever seen ya'll speechless. What a great reaction, because the emotion is real. Ya'll have been missing out on great voices if you haven't entered the metal rabbit hole. Corey Taylor has an amazing voice. Maria Brink, Izzy Hale, Sully....
His voice is that good even live. Amazing
The Conan Show performance was done on 3/28/2016 with a 20-piece orchestra behind him and the audience gave him applause and a standing ovation for over 10 minutes. Try their "Hold on to Memories".
You guys should check out the live version of this. It's just as good if not more powerful than the studio version
And whew he goes hard......That's what she said.
