David Draiman's voice is a gift to us all. I can't imagine hearing that song, and not being stunned by the power, beauty, control, accuracy, frequency range, and dynamic range and versatility of THAT VOICE. It's almost supernatural it blows me away every time I hear this song.
David Draiman's voice is glorious, every time I hear this I get goose bumps, he touches my soul.
David Draiman....a voice like no other....has a timber to it that NO ONE else has. .....a gift to die for! It can be pure and angelic.....or demonic....and all parts in between. Glorious voice!! Powerful !!
To me, David's voice is ancestral. It has this very ancient, almost primordial feeling to it.
Almost a Viking quality
While I loved Simon and Garfunkels version as I heard it only by them alone. But since listening to this artist I heard the emotions in the words. I could feel as he was feeling. Disturbed brought the power of the song out for everyone to see and enjoy. One of those rare artists who can convey the emotions in a song. Powerful. Yes he has grit and power but he also puts his whole heart into it. Magnificent.
I think we can say this lovely man who obviously knows about music was blown away by David's performance. I never tire of listening to this song and I never tire of how musicians too are deeply moved by it. Xx
omg I get goosebumps every single time I hear him sing this !
I. Am moved to tears EVERY single time I hear this song performed by DISTURBED.
I also adore the original version by S & G......I grew up with it.
But this version is pure heaven.
The video with the song, takes it to another level. Simon said Disturbed is the way the song should be sung.
Was able to see Disturbed play this live and it was just amazing. David Draiman is a beautiful singer with an absolute stunning voice ❤️
You KNOW David did a good job if Paul sang it's praises lol. 🖤
He sings right up to the edge, he's leaning over hanging on by his toenails and pulls it back. Great reaction as always.
This version still gives me chills. He's so masterful with his voice. Thanks for doing a reaction video to it!
I've listened so many times to this cover. It feels as good as the first time I heard it.
Your face said more than I ever could! Brilliant song ✌❣
This rendition has brought 1963 into 2020.
I have never experienced this group before even though I know the song. This was a very powerful and wonderful experience for me. Thank you
God Bless you and yours 😌
Just freaking amazing!!! EPIC!!! The original is CLASSIC!!! This version is powerful, profound and Beautiful all at the same time!!!
This is the best version of this song. David Draiman passion hits every note beautifully. You can't even tell David Draiman was sick while performing it on CONAN
To my brother of another color.....we all bleed red, cry the same tears, and should never judge one another.....lest we judge OURSELVES first. Thank you sir.... for your channel, your spirit, and your honesty. I can only hope that your wisdom becomes the path of the future, for all mankind. Thank you.
This is an excellent rendition of Paul Simon’s song. What makes this song so special is that it was written in the mid sixties and is still relevant to this day. In fact the poignant aspect of Paul’s message was ahead of it’s time when you consider the advances in electronic communication and the negative cause and affect of the influence and impact it has on our society.
This is a very awe inspiring version of a rather old song; vocally, musically and emotionally engaging. Every time someone views and or hears this song they are taken aback; individually determining from deep within (their interpretation) of what they've just experienced. That my friends is the power of this great performance and reimagining of this timeless song!! ~Bravo!!

.
I don't know too many male singers that have that much control over their voice in that lower range. Beautiful! I tend to not like live versions, but this guy sounded just as good live as he does in the video. So impressive. Respect.
I really enjoyed your reaction and analysis ... Excellent ........ David Draiman's voice is epic. Regarding the lyrics, Simon and Garfunkel's version was a warning.
The Disturbed version is furious because the warning was ignored.
One of my all time favorite songs...from "my" era. I see the original as being sort of hopeful, PTX version as being fearful, and Disturbed's as angry. Very powerful!
A theatrical performance on a late night stage. Epic.
Great reaction! I think the depth and the power of the song truly comes out in this version. Love love this song and David’s voice...WOW!!
Check some the others on their evolution album.
Excellent review, thank you so much. My feelings are that Paul Simon was an incredible visionary... David Draiman just took his amazing lyrics and sang them for the 21st century audience, exposing how lost and shallow we have all become. “‘Fools,’ said I, ‘You do not know, Silence, like a cancer, grows, hear my words that I might teach you, take my arms that I might reach you,’ But my words, like silent raindrops fell and echoed in the wells, of silence.” (Paul Simon)
Finally a REAL heart felt reaction!! Thank you my brother:) instant Subscriber...
Your analysis and remarks and comparisons are so well spoken, and logical, that this is one of the best Disturbed's version commentary I've heard. You deserve more subscribers. Thanks for this video. Excellent and insightful work on your part!
STUNNING!
DARKNESS IS SOON TOO BE MY BEST FRIEND. I AM LOSING MY SIGHT AND SOON IT WILL GONE . BUT I LOVE THAT I FOUND YOUR CHANNEL YOU SPEAK SO WONDERFUL.. YOU HELP ME TOO FEEL . AND THANK YOU SO MUCH .
Stunning voice. Good control.
It's a beautiful song and I like this and the original.
The song makes me weep regardless.
I think this a song that depending on how you sing it can mean so many different things to different people. Simon & Garfunkel the way they sang it was definitely fit for the time they sang it.
I’ve seen both of Disturbed’s versions, but this one is awesome!! Who would ever think they would ever do a song like this, but it’s so good!
Dude he did that with the flu😱
This one man can sing this beautiful song better than 5+ people combined and got standing reviews from the song writer himself. Don’t fool yourself, disturbed has the best version outside the original
I happened to turn over to Conan just as he was introducing the group and the song they were going to sing. I have listened to many other groups sing on late night shows, usually turning the channel in disapointment. I don't know if it is the poor quality of sound stage or the groups do not bring their A game. So, this night, like many others, I started to listen with skepticism. I had not heard of this band before. Well this little country girl was soon educated by these burly powerful guys. The music was rich and of perfect pitch and tempo. And David! He pronounced every syllable completely and oh so clearly. He poured hid heart, soal, lifeblood into it. I was brought to tears. This was a true theatrical performance worthy of the Broadway stage. I repeated the song a dozen times and I just heard more and more beautifully dark and gut wrenching meanings hidden within the words. So, I searched to see if they had a video recording... and they did...
This gave my goosebumps
Goosebumps !!
Powerfully beautiful.
I Respect the not comparing, 1 better than the other, they are Each Uniquely Beautiful in their own way and Era👍🙏
I am a fan of Disturbed simply because I love Metal and Hard rock and their style of music. This cover was awesome. David Draiman has an excellent voice. He could cover Amazing Grace and make it extra awesome.
yes they all are beautiful versions of a very special song
The original is an iconic folk ballad, a warning of what might be.
Disturbed's version is an epic Jeremiad, denouncing what has come to be. It's not just a cover. It's a re-creation.
Powerful yet, Haunting... Just Sayin 🤘🏼🤠
That growl just get me every time
Incredibly and severely awsome version of a song relevant then and now. I loved your reaction and I like your styyylle! From your newest subbie in the Southern California desert, MK 🎶🌞🌵
I keep coming back and rewatching your reaction. Would love to see you react to the actual video.
First time to your sight you do a great job keep up the great job ,🤗🤗🤗🤗
Outstanding cover! This is my first tim3 hearing this artist. Fantastic!
Thank you for this great reaction, Disturbed is one of my favorite groups!
One of my favorite songs!
Try the live performance of this in Houston. It's with Myles Kennedy from Alterbridge and David. Done as a duet as it was originally written. This version you just reviewed was nominated for a Grammy. Not too bad for a guy with the flu.
I wasn't aware of this live performance. Thank you for sharing!
I love how you feel and appreciate music for their each individuality
David Draiman....a voice on loan from God.....amazing!!
A "pretty good song" can easily be ruined by covers. A true, top-echelon classic song like this can easily shed the bad covers and be perpetually reintroduced through the good ones. How much more variety can you ask for than "folk duet with a guitar," "pop a cappella band," and "metal vocalist with full orchestra featuring tympani"? My own appreciation broadens and grows, but the song itself doesn't need anyone's appreciation. The song itself lives on and on, untouched.
Thank you for this reaction. You took me back to the first time I watched Disturbed's cover of "Sound of Silence"--which is also the first time I heard Disturbed. David Draiman's power and control are a killer combination.
Well put my friend excellent reaction
Oh did not know you hadn't done a reaction to this yet. This song gets me every time. I love thus version of it
this was the first time watching this version, I've only seen the video from them. It was just as powerful as the music video. Thanks for a great reaction, you have a new sub! cat
I love David's voice!! ❤🤘❤
Thank you for your awesome reaction/review!!!
This song is so much like the ocean, with the strong ebb and flow. I love how you just let it wash over you through the whole time you were listening to it.
I grew up on Simon & Garfunkel's version of this song, & there has been a few singers & bands that have done this cover, yet nobody has done it better then Disturbs version.......I may also venture to say, I enjoy this version better, only because the message that Simon & Garfunkel were trying to get across, is much stronger and clearer in this version! The original by Simon & Garfunkel, was a warning of what was to come, if we did not change our ways, & Disturbed's version, is anger, because we did not heed the warning....... ❤ One of the best covers in my opinion ❤️
First watch. Loved your reaction.
Each version stands on its own. Add its own piece. Awesome. Keep it going bruh.
David sang that performance with the FLU!!
Hauntingly beautiful 💜
Looks like a great channel to watch, Jamel aka Jamal sent me over, looking forward to it!! 😁
i say again love this song the best
never will be fedup of listerning to it xx
love ,love it xxxxx
Goosebumps always
That was one beautiful reaction.
Hell yea great reaction!! Subscribed.
Great analysis man. Keep up the great work!
I'm sure it's already been said, but David was sick that day and running a fever. The original has been one of my favorite songs since it came out back in the 60's. That said, this to me is now the penultimate version of the song. Even Paul Simon reached out to David and congratulated him on this cover, something he had never done before.
Good observations of the performance.
Right On! Throwin up the horns 🤘
This was a great vid. And I freakin LOVE that poster behind you, so funny. 😘💕🕊
The best cover . .
i freaken made the same head movements.. O.O.. thumbs up..
Very nice honest commentary on all of the renditions of this song and its "re-birth". I will say I do enjoy the live version by David better than the video, it is so much more moving than the video. To see a voice on loan from God so masterly played I can understand why Paul Simon was so moved to reach out to David after this performance. To be praised so highly from the original creator of the song could only have happened by seeing the pure emotion on David's face in this epic performance. Disturbed is good with the Gritty stuff as well, but how would they do with say "Imagine" a Beetles song like "Yesterday"? Hmmm?
Beautiful reaction!
So powerful 💥
Wonderful reaction. Intelligent, introspective, heartfelt. I had to subscribe.
Long time since I got goose bumps...
Two comments I see on almost every reaction to this:
1. The original song was like a warning while the Disturbed version was anger that the warning wasn't heeded.
2. Apparently the producers on Conan added some auto-tune to this performance because the singer had been ill, and the singer was so angry about this decision that he walked out of an interview with them. (I haven't seen a source or evidence for this story it is just something I see in the comments of every reaction.)
And they're both bullshit. If everyone is so worried about the "auto-tune" scandal, watch the original video. I've been listening to David Draiman's voice for over 20 years and he's NEVER used autotune.
@@Mel_ForReal No one said HE chose to use it. What people have stated, is that the SOUND GUYS (running the show) chose to use it. That is why he was supposedly angry about it. They did it, without asking him.
his-bean I understand that. What I’m trying to say, very badly I guess, is that David is a full Baritone with a 4+ octave range and while not classically trained he did train to be a Cantor so he he has superb control of his instrument. Many people in the comments are making it sound as if the only way he could have sung that song so beautifully was with the help of auto tune which is simply not true. Disturb’s “A Reason to Fight” is another example of his range and beauty.
@@Mel_ForReal You are correct, but it was CONFIRMED that autotune was used. And as what you have said is also true, it is likely that david would not like said autotune, and would in fact have been angry at its inclusion and thus this ads credence to the story that he was pissed.
Craig Woodward that's fair.
Listen to the Warning !!!
💯🤯 WOW‼🔥🤟
I still love the original Simon & Garfunkel. I also like Disturbed's version. It affects me emotionally. Thanks for reacting to this.
Masterpiece
You will never hear this song the same after this!
If there were ever a reason for the pure stank faces, this performance is it!!! Great reaction my man! 🤘
I'm always gripped by emotion when I come across people who are moved by music...
On my bday dude. Love your stuff!
I really respect your decision not to compare and declare a "winner". Unless there is a clear reason to do so, it would just cause dissension (and, probably, wrath, hurt, needless angst, etc.). I loved all 3 of them. And, yes, I have a favorite, which won't matter to anyone. 😊😊
Subscribed. Big up bbbbrother
Disturbed killed it!
Only David Draiman shoul be allowed to sing this!!
Even when I am able to think of a singer who might have a similar range to Draiman in this song, I draw a blank trying to think of one who is capable of transitioning into the metal vocals we hear him hit during the song's climax.
Group Question: When was the last time you heard a singer with such range displaying so many in one song (singers/songs/links)?
Freddy Mercury, Bohemian Rhapsody. Like David, Freddy was classically trained & had 4 octave range.
Get ready for a religious experience... moves my very soul!
The things I really love about Peter Hollens and Tim Foust together was the production and like Pentatonix, they're doing all of it vocally, but I like their other material a little better. With this, I just love David's grit and emotion, and if you love him you are probably really going to like a lot of symphonic metal. I already gave you a good one but if you want to start in a different spot that is a bit less in your face, you could do Floor on Vilja Leid off the Best Zangers show. It is a TV show that a lot of countries have where 7 really awesome singers get together, get to know each other, and then do covers of songs that are either written by, or that mean a lot to the artist. they didn't really know Floor and she surprised the heck out of them czcams.com/video/lcLG5X1i2QM/video.html
If you would like a recomendation for another song by Disturbed .. "The Light" has an great message
