Dude, you are a lifesaver! I could not, for the life of me, figure out how to remove that damn filter! I was trying to pull it out thinking it was just popped in and it would not move. But I wasn't even pulling the filter, it was the plastic basket that holds it. Dumb, dumb, dumb. Had no idea you disassemble it and it just falls out! Let's just say a ton of dust fell all over me when I succeeded... Took longer to clean me than the filter!
If you keep the filter in the machine and raise the little silver semi-circle handle, you can twist the filter back and forth and it cleans it in the vac. Then open the door to get rid of the dust.
IF you are going to clean BOTH filter AND basket the easiest way is to remove both at one time by turning to the RIGHT looking from side you opened with hinge and BLACK and DECKER on it. This is not explained very well at all in User Instructions and is counter-intuitive to any engineering instruction I had in the past (Lefty Loosey Righty Tighty!). Of course if you are looking at back side left IS correct to remove. Also I do clean paper filter occasionally in water but I let dry overnight. Small DC motors do not tolerate any liquids very well at all...
Can you explain the maneuver around 00:40? Because that "basket" has four tabs that hold it in place, and no matter what I do, I can't get it to snap out.
@@LarsKelloggStedman I was finally able to do it. The first time, it is stubborn. What I did was, grasp that plastic basket from BOTH ends and brace the long snout against the front of your chair, and then rotate it with both hands. Mine came free, and now its much easier to remove.
@@peterc.7841 for me what I found is that the “inside of the funnel” has four “wings”. I used your method but got leverage on the wings inside of the basket with both thumbs and pressed down similarly to what you expressed. Much thanks
The other replies helped, but it was still really hard to remove the pre-filter the first time. It's hard to get your hands inside the basket with enough leverage to twist to the right. I wrapped three wide rubber bands around the pre-filter to improve my grip. Then I finally was able to twist right and remove.
Poor quality video because it fails to clearly show how to dismantle the main filter for cleaning. At 22 seconds it shows the back/side of the unit has been removed for access to the filter, but does not show how they removed that. In the video, it just magically happens. So, I cannot figure out how to actually remove the filter.

How did you disassemble it though? I can't figure that out.
The irony being you need a vacuum to clean your vacuum.
Figured out my problem! Thanks for the video!
For the life of me I can't get the 2nd filter the plastic one out. Can you keep more info on that?
I tried it with the paper filter mounted and turn to the right on the hinged hatch door side, then some effort and the basket popped out.
I would have liked to know how to get the filter case out, went so fast, impossible to see
Exactly
Exactly what I do - great job
thank you so much, exactly what I needed
Thanks a lot! Useful

that's all I needed...thank you so much (BTW it's a terrific hand vacuum)
Thank you, very informative
Thanks a lot! We need people like you to guide us sometimes !
perfect music for cleaning vacuum cleaners! \m/ \m/
Thank you 🙏
Thanks bro
The flap on the inside won’t close. The inside is totally clean with nothing blocking.

Did you ever figure this out? I'm stuck at the same place.
Twist it to the right and it will line up with the holes and you can just pull it out. It might take a little force.

very interested in purchasing ...
Thanks for this, lost the instructions
is the filter washable?
I also need to know please
@@nayilafp4211 Yes - you can wash it. Make sure it's completely dry before replacing in the vacuum cleaner.
Actions are very slow till he gets to the important part then goes super fast. WTH? That’s the part I need to see!
So you need a vacuum cleaner to clean the vacuum cleaner? Not helpful
No vacuum cleaner needed. Best to tap out loose dust in the garbage can, then wash and let it dry.
