Hi Dereck! Like Mylène Farmer, Johnny is a stage man with big budget performances and scenic effects and on the other hand crosses borders.
He made 184 tours and gave more than 3,250 concerts, totaling nearly 30 million spectators. In total, he produced 80 albums, including 51 studio albums. He totaled 6 diamond records, 40 gold records, 22 platinum records and 10 Victoires de la Musique.
He sings since 60"s ("yé-yé"), and the various musical trends practiced during his career - rock 'n' roll, rhythm and blues, soul, psychedelic rock, soft rock or even pop rock - all have their origins in the blues and although he interprets many sentimental ballads and also country tunes, rock remains his main reference.
Requiem Pour Un Fou released in 02.10.1976, first single taken from "Derrière L'Amour" (Behind The Love) tells the story of a man who, refusing to lose her, killed his wife.
Surrounded by the police at the scene of the murder, under the beams of the spotlight, he harangues the crowded crowd in search of the outcome. The madman knows that death will come with the break of day.
The song was no.1 in France for 3 weeks in Spring 1976 and since the death of Johnny Hallyday (12.05.2017 in Paris), it reappears in the rankings in December 2017 (No.5).
Songs of Johnny Hallyday are interesting particulary in 80's, some written by Michel Berger (France gall's husband) or Jean-Jacques Goldman (singer and "hitmaker" in France for several singers: Céline Dion, Patricia Kaas, Grégoire, Patrick Fiori, Zaz,etc... ): Quelque Chose De Tennessee (Williams, an American playwright and writer born in Mississippi) in 1985, video in Black & White shot in USA (Nathalie Baye's voice in the song, an actress and her wife at the time and Laura's mother), Rock'N Roll Attitude (very rock!! Title of this album too), Je t'Attends in 1986 with L'Envie (ONLY in live), Je Te promets, J'oublierai Ton Nom (duet with Carmel: english female singer who sung "Sally" in 1986): a beautiful ballad!!! Laura (song for her daughter who was 4 at the time) in 1987.
Lara is wonderful, she lives her own songs like that of others. You saw it in this live performance. You should react on her VIDEOS as Tout and Je T'Aime in 1997, Humana ( in a new version) in 1998. In 2001 : Immortelle, J'Y Crois Encore, Tu Es Mon Autre in 2002 (duo with Maurane: Belgian female singer passed away in 2018) and why not her career in USA with her english album in 1999: Adagio, I Will Love Again (dancy, catchy like "eurodance" in 90's),etc...
    Thanks Dereck and happy Holidays!

For the record, Lara explained that she was so stressed out to sing with the legend that Jonnhy is in France that she needed to touch him and be all over him to reassure herself.... this is quite a mythical duo in France, Switzerland and Belgium
The song is about a sort of a Bonnie and Clyde story.
Basically, they say that they'd rather die from love then being separated when the police gets them.
And they ask that the police just gives them their last night together.

I find Jonny's voice less powerfull than usual on this one. It frustrates me a little but that not surprises me since he was known to tone it down when singing a duet to put his partner on the bright spot. Very elegant from someone unrivaled. Lara were in good hands ;D

    • @Blk_livvy
      @Blk_livvy Před 2 lety +18

It's not a "Bonnie and Clyde" story at all.
This song is about a man who committed murder of passion on his wife. He loved her so much that to keep her close to him he preferred to kill her. The song takes place when the police come to look for him, on his own house, where he's barricade. he also asks the policeman to kill him because he can no longer live without her now.

This is my favorite song. And this duet is EVERYTHING. The best moment of the whole concert for me (I feel I was priviledged to be in that crowd that day even if it was raining so much). The song is about a man, who's so much in love with a woman that he killed her. So he's getting ready to be killed by the police since he's surrounded. It wasn't originally a duet but it works. It really works.

I would like to point out that during rehearsals Johnny Hallyday would have asked Lara Fabian to sing I would like to point out that during rehearsals Johnny Hallyday would have asked Lara Fabian to sing with all her power, he wanted her to shine because she was his guest.
Confirmation from Lara Fabian herself this morning January 25, 2024 on the French channel “TF1” in the show “Bonjour la matinale”
This is why Johnny Hallyday is below vocally.
It was intentional on his part.
    Johnny Hallyday was very generous.
Also note those who do not know or know very little about this singer Johnny Hallyday, he could easily rise very high too. Very big vocal power too.
I wanted to provide a clarification that I had already known for a long time but now with proof for those who belittle or who do not know this great performer.
I'll let you judge for yourself by listening to a few albums in their entirety:
"Rivière Ouvre ton lit" from 69, "Flagrant délit" from 71, "Insolitudes" from 73,
    “Derrière l'amour” from 76
    “Hallyday 84 Nashville en direct”
"Rock'n'roll attitude" from 85, "Gang" from 86, "Cadillac" from 89,
"Ça ne chanhe pas un homme" from 91,
“Ce que je sais” from 98, “Sang pour sang” from 99,
“A la vie à la mort” from 2002, “Ma vérité” from 2005, “L'attente” from 2012,
“Rester vivant” from 2014, his last posthumous album “Mon pays c'est l'amour” from 2018.
And so many other magnificent albums.. etccccc

He had a very huge career and when he passed away hundred thousands of people went around the church for the ceremony, even the french president was there.... He was the first to fill stadiums of people and each albums was number one.
So you should definitely react to more Jhonny Hallyday.

Johnny was a stage beast. It only made sense he and Lara would connect so well. Bit of trivia: they had performed together the same song during a TV show a few weeks before. After the show, Johnny came to her room and told her she had to perform this song during his upcoming tour (in 1998).
But, yeah, two stage beasts, leaving everything on the stage.
I always liked the song, but this specific live version is a gem.
By the way, the arena they’re performing at is the largest in France, it can accommodate 80,000 spectators when in sports arena configuration. Might have been less in the concert configuration.

He was 55 and she was 28 at the time of this recording ( 11 Sept 1998 )
He was huge in the French world, as he translated and did remakes of many top ten hits off the English (USA, UK, etc.) charts
from the late 50s/early 60s onwards, as well as original material.
At the time of the recording Lara had just reached the summit of pop stardom in the French wiorld.

The original version is Johnny on his own. He was younger so his voice wasn't as raw as on this one. And Lara is just the perfect partner for a duet, she's a lionness! The only French (Belgian actually!) who could sing with Johnny without being in his shadow cos he was charismatic!

It tells the story of a man surrounded by the police who killed his wife for love, he knows he will die at dawn.
    but not only...
So beware, I'm going to talk about French culture that can escape you Dereck, in 1939, a film with Jean Gabin is called "Le jour se lève", in this film, the actor is a murderer barricaded at home, he harranging the crowd and the police from his window. As soon as dawn breaks, the police storm.
I hope you understand, sorry I'm french and sometimes it's difficult to write in english for me ;)
The song was often interpreted on stage by Johnny Hallyday. While it had been judged at first glance a little removed from its usual register, the song was a great success in France.

    Hello Dereck,
Johnny Hallyday was the most beloved french singer/performer for decades (career : 1960-2017).
He used to be called the "French Elvis Presley" because he started by adapting American rock'n'roll in French. Of course, it was mixed with our culture of "chanson française (french chanson)".
He was known for being magnetic, charismatic, with a powerful voice. In this video, Lara showed that she could compete with him.
If you want to explore more of the French legendary artists, you can check more Hallyday's songs ("ma jolie Sarah", "la musique que j'aime") and some other artists like Michel Sardou ("les lacs du Connemara"), Michel Polnareff, Daniel Balavoine, Serge Gainsbourg...

    • @paulchapoy992
      @paulchapoy992 Před 3 lety

He was called "the french Elvis" by the anglo-saxon journalists that found no other equivalent, but his french nickname was "le taulier", which is about to mean "the boss".
