« No concept of social distancing » 😂 you killed me with this one!
Lara is the queen of resonance in the world music and it shows up in this legendary duet! In fact, she even can sing in 10,000+ venues without a mic thanks to this. She is nicknamed "The Ring" in the music world.
Johnny told, the day😢 he met Lara: "you are me as a woman".
Johnny’s young wife became jealous of their on-stage chemistry and made sure there were almost no other future collaboration. Only one other duet after this one, 2 years later.

Ok I will try to give the full context:
    • Johnny :
The most admired singer in France from early 60s to 2017 when he died.
He is the Elvis of France, sold more than 110M records WW. His concerts were huge!
To give you an idea on how big he was in the french music history, just 3 anecdotes:
1/ as a teenager, he was mentored by Edith Piaf herself !
2/ He was the first one who gave his chance to a young guitarist and his band, as a supporting act to his concerts during his 1966 tour. Name of the band: the Jimi Hendrix Experience!
3/ When he died in 2017, there were national funerals, with hundred of bikers on the Champs-Elysees, 1 million people long the path of the funeral procession. And this song was played when the coffin penetrated in the church.
Johnny was a real vocal powerhouse, but for this concert , in this last night, best perf, the mics were balanced in favor of Lara: he wanted her to shine and found this gave more drama to the duet.
    • The song:
this is an anthem song for him, that he used to sing alone. This was turned into a duet for Lara.
The story of the song was created in reference to a very famous old french classic movie: Le Jour se Leve (1939) where the main character is barricaded and surrounded by the police, having killed a bad man who was his rival in love affairs.
Here it becomes more a « Bonnie and Clyde » scene where the main character and her girlfriend are defying the police.
    • The venue/event:
Johnny’s concerts in Stade de France ( biggest stadium in Paris and France) in front of min 80,000. Lara was one of the surprise special guest.
They were supposed to perform it 3 times in a row on September 1998 (4th, 5th and 6th).
The first night on the 4th, it was deluge of rain, the scene was outdoor, it was risky and they decided at the last minute, with the crowd in the stadium, to postpone it to Sep 11th . Johnny was devastated.
The second night and the third night the weather was fine enough. The orchestra and choir setup was amazing, the choir especially which was distributed on huge stairs climbing to the sky.
But the night of 11th, the rain was here again. Johnny absolutely refused to cancel this time.
This is this Sep 11th show that you just watched and the rain just added some dramatic effect to the whole performance. The orchestra was located under a tent. The choir was grouped on the floor and on some balconies (not on stairs anymore obviously)
    • Lara:
she was at the beginning of her career in France and this performance became legendary and accelerated her fame there. She was unknown in France when, in February 1998, she performed this song in duet with Johnny for Les Enfoires, the most attended France TV Show of each year.
Johnny was so surprised and amazed by Lara performance that he decided to do this song again as a duet with her for the 3 big concerts a few months later. In between February and September, the album Pure from Lara had become an absolute mega hit in France, and Lara was already a star.
But this live performance where she performs as a surprise guest definitely extended her fame and she got new fans across the entire country.

Lara is so close to her partner because the characters in this mini play are a diabolical couple, a kind of Bonnie and Clyde, surrounded by police waiting to die in the morning. Once again, she plays the role that the lyrics tell her to play, whatever that role may be.

This live was in front of 80,000 people in a big stadium in France, it was Jonnhy who invited Lara to sing his song with him because he said that Lara is him as a woman, and as she began to be more and more popular, he wanted the guest to help her and spend a magical moment with her because he appreciates her enormously. Thanks for this reaction, i've really loved it !

""Requiem"" is a celebration in the church for someone who is passed away ...
""Requiem for a fou"", means here a celebration for a madman, for someone who is already dead because the police is going to kill him .
The man in the song killed his wife to keep her by himself.
For a duet, a special second lyrics has been added for the second voice to the original lyrics that Johnny sings.
Johnny chose Lara because of the beauty of her voice and the passionate way Lara sings , just like Johnny himself does ....
This is the best pop/ rock duet ever in France.
Lara is so powerful, the Belgian powerhouse.....This performance is a Broadway performance of en pop/rock song ...
Lara is Belgian from origin, but Johnny who is (was) the biggest rock star of France whit a 60 years carrier, has also in some way Belgian roods ....
Lara sang with the biggest French singers , also with Michel Sardou

Jonny’s concert at the Stade de France in Septmber 1998, was delayed due to very very heavy rain. Yes it was still raining during this performance. Lara was one of t duets sprinkled among the 36 tracks Jonny performed that night. I very strongly recommend getting hold of the 4 LP “Jonny allure le feu” (jonny Lights the Fire) released by Mercury - also on 3 CD.

👉This show was performed in front of 80,000 peoples.
Requiem means: Funeral, Funeral Mass, Funeral Service. So it's a religious piece of music, an obituary, performed during a funeral.
The song is about a man who has killed his lover wants to commit suicide by provoking a police officer to kill him.
The story of the song based on a very famous old classic French film: Le Jour se Leve (1939) in which the main character barricades himself after killing his girlfriend and is now surrounded and besieged by the police.
    * Johnny Halliday, *1943, singer, songwriter and actor. He died in 2017, all of France mourned. His funeral was televised live to tens of millions of people across Europe and Canada. 3 French Presidents were present at his funeral, including Emmanuel Macron, who delivered a 12-minute farewell address to thousands of people on the steps of the church. Johnny received a full state funeral. Paris stood still, they closed the Champs-Elyse for his funeral procession and about a million people lined up to bid him farewell.
He had a 57-year career from 1960 to 2017, sold over 100 million albums, recorded over 1000 songs and wrote or co-wrote hundreds of songs. Not only was he a great musician, but he was also a very humble man out of the limelight. Johnny Halliday is a legend in France like Elvis in America.

I have few thinks to say about this video.
Some people can think the gestures are exaggerated. You have to put in context. This is a live concert in a stadium with tens of thousands of people, in a rainy day. You have to do this so anyone can get the message.
About the song, it is based on a french movie from 1939. " Le jour se leve" , in english it is called " daybreak or " day rise".
With famous french actor: Jean Gabin. It is a story of a guy who killed somebody because of love and now, at sun rise, the police is going to storm his apartment and kill him. In flashback , we see how the all story happend.
Lara and Johnny are french incons.

Johnny Hallyday, born June 15, 1943 in Paris 9ᵉ and died December 5, 2017 in Marnes-la-coquette.
During a career spanning 57 years, he released 79 albums and sold more than 110 million records worldwide, mainly in the French-speaking world, making him one of the
best-selling artists in the world. He had five diamond albums, 40 golden albums, 22 platinum albums and earned ten Victoires de la Musique. He sang an estimated 1,154 songs and performed 540 duets with 187 artists. Credited for his strong voice and his spectacular shows, he sometimes arrived by entering a stadium through the crowd and once by jumping from a helicopter above the Stade de France, where he performed 9 times. Among his 3,257 shows completed in 187 tours, the most memorable were at Parc des Princes in 1993, at the Stade de France in 1998, just after France's win in the 1998 FIFA World Cup, as well as at the Eiffel Tower in 2000, which had record-breaking ticket sales for a French artist. A million spectators gathered to see his performance at the Eiffel Tower, with some 10 million watching on television.
