Message: This is an anthem song for Johnny (who was a very popular French singer), that he used to sing alone. It was turned into a duet for Lara. The story of the song was created in reference to a very famous old French classic movie: Le Jour se Leve (1939) where the main character is barricaded and surrounded by the police and their dogs, because he has killed his girlfriend. - Hudba
Ok I will try to give the full context:
• Johnny :
The most admired singer in France from early 60s to 2017 when he died.
He is the Elvis of France, sold more than 110M records WW. His concerts were huge!
To give you an idea on how big he was in the french music history, just 3 anecdotes:
1/ as a teenager, he was mentored by Edith Piaf herself !
2/ He was the first one who gave his chance to a young guitarist and his band, as a supporting act to his concerts during his 1966 tour. Name of the band: the Jimi Hendrix Experience!
3/ When he died in 2017, there were national funerals, with hundred of bikers on the Champs-Elysees, 1 million people long the path of the funeral procession. And this song was played when the coffin penetrated in the church.
Johnny was a real vocal powerhouse, and in the last night, best perf, the mics were balanced in favor of Lara: he wanted her to shine and found this gave more drama to the duet.
• The song:

Here it becomes more a « Bonnie and Clyde » scene where both are defying the police.
• The venue/event:
Johnny’s concerts in Stade de France ( biggest stadium in Paris and France) in front of min 80,000. Lara was one of the surprise special guest.
They were supposed to perform it 3 times in a row on September 1998 (4th, 5th and 6th).
The first night on the 4th, it was deluge of rain, , the scene was outdoor, it was risky and they decided at the last minute, with the crowd in the stadium, to postpone it to Sep 11th . Johnny was devastated.
The second night and the third night the weather was fine enough. The orchestra and choir setup was amazing, the choir especially which was distributed on huge stairs climbing to the sky.
But the night of 11th, the rain was here again. Johnny absolutely refused to cancel this time.
This is this Sep 11th show that you just watched and the rain just added some dramatic effect to the whole performance. The orchestra was located under a tent. The choir was grouped on the floor and on some balconies (not on stairs anymore obviously)
• Lara:
she was at the beginning of her career in France and this performance became legendary and accelerated her fame there. She was unknown in France when, in February 1998, she performed this song in duet with Johnny for Les Enfoires, the most attended France TV Show of each year.
Johnny was so surprised and amazed by Lara performance that he decided to do this song again as a duet with her for the 3 big concerts a few months later. In between February and September, the album Pure from Lara had become an absolute mega hit in France, and Lara was already a star.
But this live performance where she performs as a surprise guest definitely extended her fame and she got new fans across the entire country.

Thank you for these explanations, all the information about the circumstances of this performance, I didn't have a clue, but it is great to get to know that Lara became a superstar in France because of this. And rightly so! She is an amazing singer and performer, but this duet and performance at a whole is just stunning!

Johnny is a rock legend in France. After this performance, his wife forbids him to perform again with Lara. Hehehe 😂 ! They both are magnificent. They showed full of emotion and passion here. Your analysis is correct with French passion for love. I remember to hear Johnny singing when I was a teenager in my country, Vietnam 🇻🇳. He was my idol at that time. That's what I call an amazing performance. Lara is one of my favorite singers. Not only does she have a fantastic voice, what really sets her apart is the passion, conviction and sincerity with which she sings. Johnny held back here because he wanted Lara to shine.

Johnny was my favorite rock singer of all time. His characteristic and unmatched voice only improved over the years. In this duo, he did not use his full potential, I think because Lara Fabian was his guest and he wanted to highlight her (she was not yet well known in France at the time) Johnny was a singer, with his lights and shadows, but he had a big heart. You have to hear more from him, Vivre pour le meilleur is one of my favorites. He died in 2017, a few years after MJ, my favorite pop singer, leaving a great void in my soul, fortunately, at that moment Dimash appeared and filled all that hole! By the way, Lara is absolutely fabulous. Greeting from Spain!
Wow but I've been waiting a long time for this reaction, finally! They are both legends in Europe.. Being at their concerts was ,,, experience of a lifetime,,, It was never, ever just a shima concert, it was always a unicum, curiosity. I can only talk about it in super latives... (I was lucky enough to meet Lara in Budapest) and after so many years, Dimash brought me the same experience,,, - surely it is no coincidence that Lara was one of his idols.

There was nothing between them except a great respect between great professionals. Johnny invited LARA to one of his concerts at the Stade de France (unfortunately, it was raining) for this duet where they both gave everything and brought out their guts for the 85,000 people present.

I'm glad that you love Lara Fabian! But I'm amazed that no one has mentioned the time she spent in Russian working with Igor Krutoy! She was Igor's Muse before Dimash! Igor and she collaborated and produce wonderful songs that Dimash later Covered - Mademoiselle Hyde, Know, Love of Tired Swans... and later after her performance of Tiamo Cosi with Dimash, she wrote the lyrics for a song for Dimash - she called up Igor and told him what the music should be like, and thus "Your Love" was born ... You should also check out her Album of songs called Miss Zhivago - her interpretation of Dr. Zhivago story!! She learned to speak Russian at that time and built up a very strong connection to Russia.

I have few thinks to say about this video.
Some people can think the gestures are exaggerated. You have to put in context. This is a live concert in a stadium with thousands of People, in a rainy day. You have to do this so anyone can get the message.
About the song, it is based on a french movie from 1939. " Le jour se leve" , in english it is called " daybreak or " day rise".
With famous french actor: Jean Gabin. It is a story of a guy who killed somebody because of love and now, at sun rise, the police is going to storm his apartment and kill him. In flashback , we see how the all story happended.
