I feel so bad for Haelena. She just had to make the painful decision of letting her son die so that she and her daughter could escape. And the entire time she's running away, trying not to panic so that the girl wouldn't start screaming and risk getting them killed too. She couldn't see anyone and the worst part is? I think Haelena is only 19 or 20; practically a child herself. And she goes straight to her mother because she is so young herself. And just like how she's trying to shield her own daughter, Haelena goes to Alicent to get a sense of comfort and protection because she knows the assassin's wouldn't be stupid enough to follow her to Alicents quarters.

The guards not being there actually makes sense since Crinston would have likely dismissed them or purposefully created a gap in their rotation to give him an opportunity to sleep with Alicent and not get caught. That would also explain how Blood and Cheese manage to sneak into the queen's bed chambers without getting caught. Now whether or not Crinston and Alicent would sleep together at all, or during the middle of the war is up for debate.

Okey for those judging poor Heleane’s reaction to her child’s murder, let me break it down. Heleane both in the show and books is described a loving mother who loves her children and tried to protect them, in the book she begged for the Killers to take her and not her children while this shows she tries selling her priceless necklace.
As for her body language, she actively trying to resist and her eyes are watering. In the Show it’s hinted, that she is a Seer of sorts and knew she couldn’t stop the incoming events such as sewing a blanket for her son, gazing at his bed and hinting the fear of “Rat” aka the Rat-Catchers who are the Killers. Knowing she can’t change faint and possibly saving her son for a lifetime misery of becoming King, with great heartbreak choose her son to killed.
While her son was getting murdered and decapitated, she says “No” possibly repeated over and over in her mind and race to protect her daughter. This is her motherly and seer instincts, as she knows she can save her daughter from being next as these men are unpredictable and dangerous which is why, even though she was in horrified and beginning to grieve hence her watery eyes and horrified expression. She race out of the nursery with her daughter, but took at a glance of what Blood and Cheese are doing to her son. She forces herself to keeping moving forward and took more glances behind her until as her daughter whimpers in her arms coming down the steps, stops possibly sensing her son is gone.
Everyone reaction to trauma is different, some scream, cry or simply freezes on their own but Heleane knew what was going to happen and knew she couldn’t do something other than taking the chance to protect her daughter. From grabbing her while Blood and Cheese is killing her bother, burying her daughter’s head into her shoulder (so her daughter can’t see the murder) and racing out of there while she can. In the aftermath, Heleane wasn’t even given a moment to grieve her son, clinging to the blanket she made for him and gets no comfort or peace to grieve instead force to parade her dead boy for her grandfather’s political gain.
    Heleane deserve better 😢

People upset we didn't see the head cut off a child need to recall how upset fans of GOT where, about a scene where a poor child was burned alive and how many cried that the scene of Sansa's wedding night with Ramsey were too graphic when they could have been far more so. I'm not one that is easily offended when watching television but when Stannis burned his daughter, now that was a scene that went too far for me.

Plus, Phia's interpetation as Helaena is amazing, with only her body language you could see what she was feeling at that moment. The fear, guilt, loneliness, her doubts. And when she runs off with her daughter shows very accurate how a person would react with a traumatizing event such as being forced to let some strangers to murder your son.

@@French_sultana Both did. Viserys is more infuriating because there was zero reason to remarry in order to get an heir when he PROMISED the throne to his daughter. Like, common, it doesn't take a genius to put 2+2 together to guess what the hell will happen to your daughter/her claim if you went and made ANOTHER heir to compete with her.
Even if he stepped down and made his daughter a queen, it would still put her in weird position on sole fact that he now has male heirs. Even if his sons couldn't care less about the throne, that wouldn't stop others from trying to undermine Rhaenyra and try to push for one of his sons to be on the throne instead, which would put Rhaenyra in another not so pretty situation on how to deal with this so it doesn't lead to something worse (solution clearly being to kill her brothers so there is no competition at all).
You can blame random power hungry guy like Otto for feeding ideas to Viserys, but he was the one to make these calls in the end. Marrying another woman for an heir after you PROMISED your throne to your daughter, was a biggest tard move possible and Viserys isn't getting nearly as much of crap as he should because everything happened due to him and his poor decisions making that everyone else payed a price for.

You don't kill innocents for the actions of their relatives. Did you know in Eastern Europe, there is a disturbing tradition that they've been trying to root out called the Blood Vengeance? Where if someone is murdered, even if the killer is sent to prison. Their relatives can exact revenge by taking the life of a relative of the murderer. Often that involves children being killed because their parents killed someone. And it specifically targets boys and men; women and girls are rarely targeted but it does happen. As a result, people end up being cooped up in houses for years and can rarely or never leave the property because of fears of being abducted and killed by grieving families. They won't step foot onto the actual property because, in those countries, you can use lethal force to stop trespassers and intruders if necessary. It can get to the point where they have to rely on friendly neighbors or friends to buy their groceries for them or to escort them to places. Because the Blood Vengeance says that 'those not connected to the murderer by blood or marriage can't be harmed'.
The practice has long been outlawed yet it's estimated that thousands of people are killed every year in Eastern Europe because of people claiming the Blood Vengeance.

Sooo underwhelming. Not because they didn't show the murder, but because in the book Helaena begged to kill her instead and then chose another child to die (probably because she did try to save the heir). Much less heartbreake here. And they didn't tell her that they were gonna kill both kids if she lied or didn't cooperate, so there was no point in telling the truth immediately.
I don't mind Alicent having fun instead of being tied and gagged though, seems fitting for the character.

@TimberlakeTigerGirl you’re right, I’ve missed it as I’m not a native speaker. Still it was kinda undermined by them doubting and looking in her eyes to know if she’s lying without threatening her. Idk, to me it was lacking something

They could have truly leaned into it fully, but they chose not to follow the books, and I feel like the scene is worse for it. The source material is perfect. There’s a reason that scene in the book (Blood & Cheese) is so iconic. I didn’t hate this, but I think they made the wrong decision to change the scene so much.

    • @TimberlakeTigerGirl
      @TimberlakeTigerGirl Před 23 dny +5

They had to because of censorship laws. Since they were working with 4 year olds, by law, they couldn't do a scene, or have the actors do stuff, that could leave them traumatized.
