I live in Guatemala and knowing this part of history hurts me and fills me with great anger, I change the destiny of my country in a significant way and today having the terrible rulers that we have in this region call me to do something for my country, for vindicate those who gave their lives for a better future and above all for the most vulnerable who were, are and if we follow this step they will continue to be the most affected, thanks for this video and keep it up.

As someone from Guatemala and as a Patron supporter I'm pleasantly surprised decided to dedicate a video to this story. To me the story of Arbenz is the story of an unfulfilled future, a future of basic human dignity and the autonomy of a state eclipsed by greed, deception and imperialism.
Makes me wonder what kind of events inspired these Old Testament mythologies
I was born in GT and I lived there for a little bit longer than I should have... A couple of things.
First, thanks for clarifying that Arbenz's was a bourgeois revolution, he's still quite idealised in the country and in big part it is because of that exactly, sadly a real leftist wouldn't have had the same luck.
Second, sadly, the state of the country is still as bad, in a different way. There has been a very big push for american cultural colonialism, and it means that the country is now stuck in a very bad, christian conservative neo-feudalist loop; women's and LGBT rights got a bit hit not so long ago, evangelical churches gain more economical and political power every day, the country is still controlled by very powerful feudal families (in alliance with the us, but a lot of the evil comes from them, and it always has) and the lvl of industrialisation and other materialist progress is 0 if not negative.
I was born in the US, but my family is Guatemalan, I travel every year to the rural areas to visit my family. Every day evangelical churches throw anti- catholic propaganda flyers. It is true what you say, these christian nationalists have a strong grip on Guatemala and are very discriminatory against Mayan people, Catholics and poor people. These families own large swathes of land throughout rural Guatemala. One day it will change.
Y do they have a alliance with the US? What is the Us intrest in Guatemala? Also how did women and lgbt right get a big hit>
@@Bell_plejdo568p Capitalists work together, both the usa and Guatemala are governed by their economic ruling class, and therefore benefit in collaboration to keep the proletariat oppressed; as part of that the usa gets cheap labour from GT in the form of agricultural and textile production, minery, migrant labour; and the economic ruling class of GT gets support in keeping the feudal-capitalist status quo, and the cultural influence of the usa that pushes against even centrist stuff like social democracy.
If I remember well I wrote that at the moment that laws criminalising pro-choice/pro-abortion speech just passed, and if I remember well there was also something anti-LGBT there. Add to that that the churches (both evangelical and catholic) keep a strong cultural grip and control a big % of the education, you can see how that perpetuates patriarchy, toxic masculinity, etc.

The point was made to hit home the point that the people spreading anti-social propaganda via Christian ideology didn't even believe in the religion they used as a vehicle for mass control. The guy could have been Muslim, Rasta, Pagan... doesn't matter. Not about antisemitism, but I can see where your concern comes from.
