Had to do another alloytec rebuild for the wagon! | HFV6 LY7 VVT 190KW | GM Holden | LLT LFX

- My recently first built Alloytec LY7 190kw engine lost oil pressure and died on the side of the road, we think the issue is related to an underlying issue due to rust in the bores more than build failure. Despite so many claims about timing chain problems and the famous P0008 fault code I have never had an issue with my original engine. 270,000km’s on original chains and tensioners and always serviced with diesel oil around 7-8,000kms. Late VZ Holden Commodores and some early VE Holden Commodores developed a known issue with the timing chain stretching causing issues and lately in the last half decade many have come to mention that the link isn’t necessarily the timing chains but lack of service or blocked PCV systems which cause low oil pressure and timing chains stretch, this wasn’t my case of failure but the reason why I had to do timing chains on my donor motor I got to replace and drop back into the Adventra.
I also show the changing of the rear main seal and thermostat.
This same LY7 HFV6 3.6 VVT engine was also used by GM in the 2007 Cadillac CTS, SRX and STS; Saturn Outlook; GMC Acadia and slated for the 2008 Buick Enclave and this alloytec engine also shares very similar properties to the LLT and LFX engines.

Been using the Adventra for around 4 days now for general use around town locally and a trip to work on Monday which is all resulting in normal operation, oil level has been correct the whole time, power steering needed a bleed on the jack which we did and has been fine since. Oil pressure has been very close to what our other 2006 Adventra V6 reports. Did an oil filter change yesterday, looked good but did it anyway. This Friday will take it for a drive to gippsland on the main highway to give it a few hours cruising and see how we go. Looks good all signs point to the end of the v6 issues.
That oil level issue could be a worry. Just keep a good eye on the level before your first few days use. Thanks for sharing
First rebuild started so much easier haha
i remember when family members bought new ve's they all had the same issue oil consumption yet no leaks, holden told them all it was normal at that time the service yard was full with various low km vehicles with these motors ruined for whatever reason , i was going to buy one until i looked into the rebuild costs
great video!!
following 💪🏽
Chris is it worth to drill out the breather holes to a 1/8 as am thinking to do that to mind as it's done 60.000 km since full rebuild as i have a very very slight leak at the left hand side rear bank as it could be the rocket cover too .
I have a vz having starts runs good the next day starts then stops try it 4 times then starts running I have done crank angle sensor and changed the fuses still having problems
Good evening mate quick question , how much hp could a ly7 stock handle ?
Red coolant would of been better then just filling it with tap water.
No link in top right corner to Alloytec issues as promised by commentary
This is why the oil pan should be removed & the pickup screen checked :-
how much you charge for engine rebuild
must be good to have a whole bunch of money to throw away like this
TERRIFIC!
dude, do you have an instagram profile? what is your @?
