  • We got the newly rebuilt alloytec up and running in our last video here • Had to do another allo... and it was all down to the first drive on the road to check how all our work went, hoping for a much better result than our last.
    We're keen to tick this one off the list, so we can also get a start to saving the LS1 V8 Adventra a bit of an update at the end for you guys playing from home waiting for the V8 road to registration updates!

    If you,re going to pull the rocker covers off on the LS motor use genuine GM gaskets the cheap ones fail fairly quicky and oil every where.

      cheers for the advice, and I think I can say this generally to you Andrew and to many others on here - thanks to everyone offering their advice on the LS, we've never really touched an LS driven them all our life in the VE commodore range (SS, Clubby, Senator..) before I found my love for the Adventra's but always let our mechanic do any fixes needed... times have changed we've also found enjoyment to working on engines ourselves and we have a great audience that are experienced and some also learning from us as well - clearly we are not experienced but we do the videos so we can share knowledge visually so at times we may be incorrect in our guess to the issue, we always take feedback constructively from everyone - so thank you.

      @@colinanderson1823 haha, I'm going through the service book now, its actually good news if you ask me Valve Lifters are consider a minor service operation class, and looking at the process it actually looks fairly easy - there are some special tools they suggest we use to test the leakdown rate and stuff, which we probably wont be able to get so will need to community source if we can skip the testing and likleyhood of failure if we don't. Looks like less than $500 job all up using our own time. More learning, assuming we get it right the first go. Fun times! We will video document.

      Good luck, sounds fun! Anything 300,000+ will likely need a replacement torque converter if not yet done, assuming trans is still behaving correctly. Most alloytecs that have been looked after, will serve you well, especially if you continue to maintain it. We have seen alloytecs do 400+ original chains (despite what people report), if you are concerned most workshops do timing chins with genuine GM for around $1.5k drive in and drive out. Replacement torque converter is around $800-900 drive in drive out. Good oil changes & pcv maintenance is key to healthy running v6 alloy. Our original motor would have done the distance I think, if it was not for me dusting mine in the Simpson Desert. All the best with your purchase.

    • @AllTerrainAction
      @AllTerrainAction  Před rokem

      Just gotta remember that being an all wheel drive you get the extra issues with having to deal with transfer and front diff maintenance, front cv maintenance and the pain that comes with prop boots being worn. If you can overlook that extra stuff yeah they can be pretty good, 3.46 diff gears as standard in both V6 and V8 (slower than a 2wd due to AWD drivetrain power loss though) but you are never short of traction in the wet just instant power delivery to all 4. I'm curious on what 2 cars you have now to have an idea of how the Adventra seems appealing to you? Cheers for the comment It's good to see some people seeing the pros on these much less popular Holden wagons.

      i have a 1988 hilux surf (first gen 4runner) and a 1995 vs commodore wagon with the trusty ecotec 6.......... i need a car for highway driving with a side of some off-road capabilities, these seem perfect for me

    • @AllTerrainAction
      @AllTerrainAction  Před rokem

      @@thomas-wi6lq Yeah definatley a good crossover vehicle, mind you we take these to the extreme a stock, not even a lifted Adventra goes so far still with 1" oversize tires, no cutting needed or lift.
      Or you can go the whole way, 1.5" oversize all terrains, 30-50mm lift and brake upgrade (as this compliments the brake lock diff program in these, to improve in wheel up situations and be able to still drive forward).
      V6 is better for off road but, V8 is the sound and fun, to keep it simple V6 uses Bosch 8.0 platform while the V8 uses the older platform in which, is just slower at intervening, but it all comes down to your personal taste either will do the job.
      If you have any specific questions let me know, we can try and answer them or.. make a video for you to show you!

      @@AllTerrainAction change the lifters with LS7 lifters. Also use new genuine AC Delco/GM lifter buckets.
      There is no shortage of videos showing how to do the job. Heaps, so that will make it easier.
      It’s tempting to do a few other things while you are in there and some might suggest them, however I understand that you have a goal and timeline on this. So get the new valley gasket, head gasket and new head bolts in. If they are ARP head studs, you might be right to reuse them. You’ll need new rocker gaskets (get the cheapest for now and redo them down the track) and intake gaskets. You’ll probably have heaps of coolant already.
      It will be a good experience and give you a bit of confidence. You’ll be well positioned to do more with it at a later date.

      It’s possible the cam is rooted, but you’ll want to weigh up just getting it done and hoping for the best. If you do replace the cam, it is still well within your skills to do and you and Wal might enjoy it, but will add significant cost. Also will add a heap of fun to the project if it’s a mild cam you go for.

      @@cumminsfj4586 I honestly cant say they gave anymore power/torque people often say low end torque is added but I dunno. If you look at the runners, they arent flat against the intake manifold on the joins, I can see how airflow can be interrupted and work negatively on that front however, no actual tests have been preformed to yay or nay it from where I stand other than what Mace advise on their sale page for it. It does however with 100% keep intake manifold COOLER as it stops it from becoming a heat soak warming intake air and it makes accessing spark/plugs easier. Would be an idea to smooth of the runners of the spacers with the intake manifold.. I think it would make a huge difference. Possibly an idea for the future.
