It's a little ironic given that's exactly what any father worth their weight would want for their kid; to be far better than they ever were. But this is not how you accomplish that notion. You accomplish that by teaching your kids to be better people, not just for others, but for their own selves and implore them to continue to grow throughout their lives long after reaching age of majority. Sinking so low that any kid looks like an upgrade doesn't cut it.

    • @blindjustice8718

That is kind of what I was going for was the Generals Courts Matial for disobeying a direct order -- provided it was peace time. Which when I was in back in the 90s was a three [officer?] panel. (It may have also included high-level sergeants. Never actually went through one.)
But then in a combat situation, you might wind up with a field court martial which was explained as "a blindfold and a cigarette; there's plenty more where you came from." Which I was threatened with once because I refused to drive through a known ambush with a deuce-and-a-half filled with soldiers packed like sardines.
Fortunately, a major stepped in and told my captain she needed to listen to her troops. When she protested that my defiance had delayed our convoy, he told her "This is the military. Shit changes."
My reward was my unit gave me first dibs out of the MRE case every day for the next month for not getting them shot up. Which for those who weren't military in the early 90's when there were maybe 3 varieties of MREs that were good enough to eat, was a huge show of gratitude.

Theyre trained to avoid escalation and use of force as much as possible. Escalating and using force runs a risk of injuring the person and causing a lawsuit, or the officer getting injured, or making the suspect get angry and pull out a knife or something, or trying to drive off and cause a car chase. Use of force is also a lot more paperwork, i think. Much easier to spend 5 or 10 extra minutes trying to convince the suspect to comply.
